Title: BDP (or AVR) hangs when playing Uncompressed PCM
Post by: john martin on Dec 31, 2008 at 02:00 PM
I have a Sony BDP-S300 BDP.  Firmware is upgraded to 4.30, the latest update. My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V663.   I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and my audio was set to Uncompressed PCM.  I usually set it to 5.1 Dolby Digital but this time I set it to Uncompressed PCM.  During play, my BDP hang and I had to reboot the player.  However, I observed that if settings were in Dolby D, DTS or even Dolby True HD, theres no problem?

During the problem, I could observe that the BDP counter is still moving but the picture is frozen. Could it be the BDP firmware or the AVR which I should be concerned?

How does your setup work? Do you let the BDP do the HD audio decoding or do you bitstream it to your receiver? Is this the first time that you encountered this issue when on uncompressed PCM? Try other titles first to see if it's just an incompatibility issue with the disc.

Upgrade your firmware to 4.40
