Hi I just moved here to the Philippines from California and I bought movies from Oddessy in Cabanatuan City. However as soon as I press play there is an option menu asking you to choose a language like Indonesian, Chinese or English. Does that make them fake?? Sorry if this is a dumb question I am not use to these things on US dvds. Thanks In Advance.
-
No. DVD's here are region 3, and are intended for the Asian market hence the Asian languages, just as European releases carry Spanish, Italian, etc...
-
Also, Odyssey, O Music Video, Astroplus and Astrovision are legit stores. They do not sell pirated videos.
-
Check the real name of the store again. If its really from "ODDESSY" and not in "Odyssey" store... Then there's a big possibility that those are fake. :D

hehe ;D
Back on topic, as what Sir Techdude mentioned, Region 3 is for the Asian Market. So it will be ok if you inserted a region 3 disc, you will be prompted with a menu to different asian languages (such as Thai, Simplified and Traditional Chinese etc.)

Kabayan..!
Those are not fakes my friend, but I know that they do look CHEAP...
Most of the budget R3 releases in our country really SUCKS, in terms of
Picture and audio quality. Packaging too...
Been shying away from buying R3s lately, bought 3 or 4 titles that I really regret buying,
ended up giving some to Surg,...
Just to name a few are Rambo (picture is so BAD, no Dolby digital track as well), Next, Forbidden Kingdom,
they are very GRAINY and the colors are pretty saturated, the audio is horrendous as well...
Cheers...!

on the contrary, this is an indication that you got a legit copy. fake/p****** dvds do not have a "choose a language" feature. besides, you purchased your dvds from a legit source. so, no worries. ;)

-
One thing is for sure. There are original dvds that looks like pirated mostly based on its packaging and vice versa. :o

The release of the Rambo trilogy here all have DTS and Dolby digital.
As for the Forbidden Kingdom, well, local Viva release, so "buy at own risk".

;D hehehe
well hope na sana nga yan ang dapat ma improve ng mga local distributors dito, the quality of packaging.

OT, but I think what ABCmotorparts means is the 4th Rambo film, which was released locally by Solar. A "buy at your own risk" DVD too...

Hmm, possible. Our local release of Rambo 4 sucks big time. Good thing I was able to buy a different version.

Thanks Jas,...
Yes, I was referring to the last rambo film,...
Pardon the confusion,...
As for most of the comments above and in some other threads as well, we do hope that most of the studios here and in abroad would somehow do something to improve the current quality of most of their film releases. If they intend to eliminate the Jack Sparrow and Black Beard DVDs, they should somehow listen to the cry of the consumers.
Surg can attest that we both have become regular customers here in our area buying and supporting original DVDs, but we both have been very disappointed lately with the quality of such.
So that left us no choice in the meantime....
Cheers everyone...

Hi maidenmasher69,
My brother came home from Dubai, and asked him to bring me back a copy of that Rambo,
and I can say.... DA*N, quality in terms of PQ and AQ are both spectacular... Its a Region 2 copy, 2 Disc DVDs, the other disc includes the making of the movie, and the showcase of the sniper rifle used in the movie, the BARRETT M107 50cal sniper rifle...
Pardon the OT....
Cheers..!

Yes.
_______________________________________________________________________
To answer the original post; Nope! It's not a pirated copy. There are some Imported R3s that has an option like that before the interactive menu or even trailers start playing.
To make sure that what you're buying are originals, buy from "reputable" stores like AstroVion, AstroPlus, Odyssey, Music 1, National Book Store and of course PinoyDVD.biz or the Market Place forum here at PinoyDVD.com. ;)
-
so basta meron logo ng mtrcb locally made siya?
-

Most po talaga, meron.
The best po talaga ay ganito: 'pag blurry and a bit more saturated 'yung cover at merong MTRCB logo na printed sa back cover ng package, it's locally made.
Also 'yung DVDs na may C Interactive logo sa back cover po ay locally pressed.
;)

Yup. Tinipid nga. ;)
Whoa! 'di ko alam na ganyan pala gawa ng Viva. >:( Mabuti na lang 'di ako bumibili ng gawa nila. ;D
Thanks for the tip, Bro. :D

I gave an original NEXT R3 DVD to Surg, para siyang VCD talaga,...
???

Take note though that not all Viva releases are poor quality budget DVDs. Their Fox & Disney releases are of good quality.

Most of the Fox and Disney releases of Viva has the sticker IMPORTED posted on them,
but still too pricey, I guess we do get what we pay for...
Cheers..!

The thread on How to tell if a disc is DVD9 should be a must read for DVD collectors. That thread contains everything you-need-to-know about local DVDs but-didn't ask-before-buying...
The one thing I hate about Magnavision releases, is that the paper used for the label is so thin that often may bakat iyung hub ng DVD.
OT na tayo...

For Viva releases, just stick to its Fox and Disney Titles.
and for their locally pressed releases, it is a "purchase at your own risk".

Man isn't that so true...kaya nga sa PDVD ko binbili ang Galactica DVDs ko kasi yung nilalabas dito are not even recognised sa official website niya mismo (only R1 R2 and R4). Other rare finds hahanapin ko dito. I even got a term for such stuff: "legit P-word" As for other DVDs I bought here...well, the menu of the Wedding Singer I bought sa Music 1 was such a poor piece of work. So was The Philadelphia Experiment. Basta ever since I discovered this site, I've kept my distance from stores here (though I bought SEX IN PHILIPPINE CINEMA V1 and V2 from Video City for a bargain).
Basta, R1 rocks.

Well not all R3 DVD's have sucky quality.
Warner, Fox, Disney & Paramount R3 release usually almost mirror the R1 release

Does this cover everything, even the packaging, print quality of covers? Parang nakikita ko kasi washed out usually yung mga nasa stores.

No, if packaging is what your after then we're out of luck(except Warner)
But in terms of Picture Quality & Audio Quality they're at par since the R3 & R1 releases come from the same master copy naman eh. ;)

I bought Wedding Singer last year, I was so disappointed and upset.
They just transferred VCD to DVD format. Pangit talaga! I did not continue watching it.
Nasira yung gabi.
It's a form of Cheating... Viva talaga!

kaya pala.. At first i thought there was something wrong with the settings of my htpc or maybe the media player. nung pinanood ko kasi yung viva dvd na Taken nagtataka ako bakit stereo sound lang ang lumalabas pro nung iplay ko naman yung iba kong dvd ok naman ang surround sound. "viva pala talaga." Sabagay to give them credit di nila nilagyan ng dolby symbol yung dvd.
but still when you buy dvd you expect that the minimum would be the default dolby sound. wala tuloy pagkaiba sa nabibili sa kalye.. :(
anyway ive learned my lesson too.
