Title: The Maricel Soriano Thread
Post by: dorian_gray on Feb 27, 2009 at 06:41 AM
I am not sure if there is a similar thread so please merge this one, mods.

I absolutely love this woman. I think she is one of the best actresses in Philippine cinema. My favourite movie of hers is "Abot-Kamay ang Pangarap".

Agree she's one of the best but not really lucky in getting those plum roles. She was repackaged as a teen actress in Gosiengfiao's coming-of-age film UNDERAGE. Critics noticed her in Bernal's classic film HINUGOT SA LANGIT her best in my book. Got more accolades in Carlitos Siguion-Reyna's INAGAW MO ANG LAHAT SA AKIN, IKAW PA LANG ANG MINAHAL. In IKAW PA LANG ANG MINAHAL  she was pitted against LT for NARITO ANG PUSO KO  but lost along the way.

She passed for TAGOS NG DUGO  which I believe she would also done justice to the role with multiple personalities. Her comic versatility excels also in GALAWGAW, INDAY BOTE, JACK AND POY.

A very versatile actress. She had a lot of good movies but here's my take on her best and memorable movies so far (at random order):

      Would you rather be
      (http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w81/thegoodbyeguy/PINOYDVD%20POSTS/separada.jpg)
      Separada, or

                              Abandonada?

      1.  IKAW PA LANG ANG MINAHAL (1992)
      2.  OH MY MAMA (1981)
      3.  SEPARADA (1994)
      4.  UNDERAGE (1980)
      5.  DAHAS (1995)
      6.  SAAN DARATING ANG UMAGA? (1983)
      7.  KAYA KONG ABUTIN ANG LANGIT (1984)
      8.  HINUGOT SA LANGIT (1985)
      9.  ABOT-KAMAY ANG PANGRAP (1996)
      10. VAMPIRA (1994)
      11. ABANDONADA (2000)
      12. JOHN AND MARSHA (1974)
      13. INAGAW MO ANG LAHAT SA AKIN (1996)
      14. BATANG QUIAPO (1983)
      15. SCHOOLGIRLS (1982)

Maricel is also incomparable when it comes to comedy, some of which were even directed by Ishmael Bernal (GALAWGAW, 1982) and MARYO J. DE LOS REYES (PEPE AND PILAR, 1984). Her earlier comedy films sums up the rest of her memorable performaces.

Hopefully, her upcoming horror film (T-2) from Star Cinema will be notable as well.

I miss her Maricel Drama Special on ABS-CBN. She still shot episodes even when she was pregnant.

Why won't ABS just released this kind of shows on DVD (sort of a retrospective) instead of new teleseryes like Kahit Isang Saglit, Maging Sino Ka Man, etc.?

that is a great idea. I wonder if it is commercially viable though.

I believe there is a market out there. Now that Filipinos sort of becomes aware of classic movies in resurgence via videos and gained interest. So old tv shows possibly will follow. I know many of us here are wishing for ISKUL BUKOL dvds. Sorry, off the topic.

If that happens, Maricel fans will have a field day definitely. ;)
