i think the most popular right now is mr dynamic in v-mal greenhills. around 24k package already with 3 games. their units are from hk so this are the ntsc asian units. 80 gb na with ds3 controller already.
might be lower if you dont get the games included.

Pero ako, sa Datablitz ako bumili for authenticity and latest models. Kasi nun tumitingin ako sa MR Dynamic and EYO ng PS3 late last year, meron pa silang mga binebenta na 40GB models when I knew that those were phased out already. My concern is, since di ako marunong tumingin, baka mabentahan ako ng old stock. Pareho lang naman mga price ng unit, essentially.

rumor has it that they are slashing 150USD from its price, number 5 na sila sa ranking ng gaming consoles, tinalo pa sila ng PS2 primarily dahilsa sobrang mahal nila.

The cheapest price right now for the slim is 15k in Greenhills (you would have to haggle and look around).
i-Tech sells it for 16k.
Don't have an idea on the prices for the old phat ones on sale.

Only the first two generations of the PS3 phat have backwards compatibility. There are phat models that don't have this feature anymore.

you can't find new BC-equipped units in stores anymore, they were phased out in early 2007.

Yup, you'll only find the BC-equipped PS3s in the second-hand market. That is, if owners are willing to sell it, especially the launch units with the card reader. I hear they're collector's items already.

True that. I've seen some in mint/near mint condition that are actually being sold at a more expensive price than the slim, especially the non-black models.

Another thing... It's rather pointless to get a BC-equipped unit if it's not a US/Region 1 console, unless you can read Japanese and/or have a collection of PAL PS2 games.
Remember, while PS3 games are region-free, PS1/PS2 discs aren't.

I just called E-stop this morning. 16,350 cash for the 120GB, "around 17,350" pag card. They don't have the 80G anymore daw.
According to PS posters:

Nope it's pointless. It's meant mainly for installing games and saving your own media files. It's also cheaper to just get a 120GB and upgrade to a 320 or 500GB drive later if you need more space.

Got my 250Gb slim in GH last sunday for 16700 3months warranty lifetime service, no parts. What i noticed was a bit strange when i got home, when i plugged the controller that came with the unit and the exta one i got from datablitz the LED of the unit controller is dimmer... I dont think its a deal breaker, but i just found that strange.

Quite odd since other branches offer it for P15,200 cash. Maybe that was the Asian unit?

Mine is also Asian unit. As mentioned, not the best deal. Datablitz SM Marikina guys were honest in saying that some branches, particularly GH, offers a more competitive price. I had a choice actually ;D, to either buy from them or from their other branches, or from other store for that matter. However, one consideration was am not that willing to go from one place to another nowadays (car is still in CASA due to Ondoy). We're already in SM Marikina, I had the urge (feeling of wanting ;D) to buy a PS3, pressure from the kids... eh di bili na.

Congrats brader!!! I would have done the same if few hundreds lang ang difference. The traffic and gas plus parking fee and most important time get it na lang kung saan ka malapit. Datablitz Trinoma and SM North which is just across has a 500 peso difference in their SRP kapag ganun lang at puwede lakad then ok lang ;D

Time and effort does not come for free, it also has a premium ;D ;D ;D. Eh ang attitude ko that time, kung saan abutan na hindi na mkapag-pigil hehehe... Almost one year akong nag-antay ha! (bago mapa-oo si misis) ;D By the way, got the 15mtr HDMI cable na para shoot na sa PJ hehe.
... Sa mismong SM nga parang nasa 18,500 yung 120gb, yun ang taga!
Will still monitor this thread coz my sister also wants one, and she's willing to wait for a couple of weeks more.

Madness! Both Singapore and HK are PAL nations. Besides alam ko the HK/Sing units are basically Japanese NTSC units with Region 3 for DVDs.
Though be warned: On Jap/HK units some of my R1 games like Bioshock and Soul Calibur 4 only output in PAL in 480i/p mode for some reason. If you wanna be sure all games will run on NTSC get a US console.

sir, i just got back from HK and they are selling ps3 units 120gb and 240gb at HKD2399 and HKD2599 respectively. I was about to buy but the salesman said I will have difficulty playing BD movies though he did not elaborate why.. thus turned down the purchase.. mga sir pa advise naman kung bakit?? are the versions locally available here in pinas a much better buy?

My friends went to Mr. Dynamic last Thursday. one of 'em bought an XBOX game and the other inquired for the PS3 slim price. I can confidently say, "yes". Mr. Dynamic sells it at a lower price. Kaya ako nabwiset kahapon sa saleslady ng market market.

Just texted Percey last night. The US PS3 Slim is selling at 17390. It's 16500 for cash purchases. Two week warranty on parts and 6 months service warranty.

:o hanep sa increase. maririnig na naman natin yung common phrase, "nagtaas kase yung suppliers." Oh well, next year na lang ulit after holidays para bumaba prices. Hirap kase bumili knowing they've sold it a lot cheaper before - and with mass-produced technology, prices are bound to go down and never up. baka next year may bundled games pa for almost the same amount.

not really other than PS1 disc and DVD region compatibility. I guess the US version is just more expensive to import.

I called Mr. Dynamic yesterday afternoon to check on prices and apparently, the price difference between i-Tech and Mr. Dynamic is huge. I forgot how much the US version is selling for (I think around 16,500) but the Asian version can be had for 14,800. They told me that I won't be able to get the price they offer at i-Tech. I guess the price difference reflects the higher overhead cost of maintaining a mall branch.
Fortunately, I won't have to worry about where to get my new Slim because my sister surprised me with a US unit last night. I'm a happy boy. :)

Actually surprise gift ng sister ko from the US. I told her hati na lang kami sa cost and she agreed. But when I woke up around 1am, a friend of hers who just arrived for a vacation brought the unit to our house. I'm now playing the hell out of Uncharted 2 multiplayer. :)

yung region sir ay para sa PSN account. DLC. so kung ang PSN account mo ay region 1, mas maganda kung ang bilhin mong games ay region 1 din. Pero kahit ano pa mang region yan, malalaro mo pa rin yan sa PS3 mo.

My slim is autovolt even if it says 100v on the outside (it's a unit from Japan). I found a japanese site where they opened up the innards of the slim and saw that the psu was indeed 100v-240v.
I tried it on the 220v outlet and it worked fine.

imo sayang naman ang ps3 kung walang internet connection. anu pakinabang ng built in wi-fi kung hindi ka rin makapag on-line gaming or makapag download ng games/demos, and now my netflix pa for movie streaming. ps3 will be like a ps2 experience na mas malinaw nga lng.

just came from i tech SM North they are giving the PS3 slim white colored for around 21K 3 months to pay, comes with the usual package plus external drive with 20 games, USB jailbreak, this is the best deal i was able to get out of around fours tores I came to this afternoon, didnt give in yet to the itch but only becasue i fall short of the card credit limit.
Is this a good deal? I intend to go back if its a good deal

so PS3 160GB model at 14,800 +1,000 (USB dongle) = 15,800. external with 20 games = 5,200 (parang mahal na ito). I think mas mura itong hard drive kay opmas.

sorry, i don't think i can be of help to you here. not familiar with how much USB jailbreak + games cost. i can only vouch for the price of the unit :)

hard drive capacity, kung di ka naman nag lalagay ng mga MP3s sa hard drive or any applicable dowload, it dont matter, the capacity would matter kung mag join ka sa jailbreak bandwagon kase mas malaki ang capacity ng 320 kaya mas madami kang mag lagay na games sa hard drive mo
i got the 320 gb for no apparent rteason actually although 1 K lang difference sa presyo ng 160 versus 320 gb. if it the future i decide to trasfer all my MPs files sa hard drive, malaki laking capacity na yung 320 gb, by the way, wala na po yatang 120 gb na bago 160 gb na and 320 gb

Baka hindi ka makalaro ng original game because it will require you to update your PS3.

depende sa laro. kung luma na pwde un. pro may ibang games, usually new games, ksi kailngan pinaka updated un FW bgo ka magkapaglaro.

Datablitz sells dirt cheap PS3s pero in most cases will not honor your unit's warranty or will give you a hard time before they do repair the unit (based on experiences on another playstation forum) The PS3 is an awesome entertainment system and is tougher than an XBOX 360 but is not free from defects (YLOD, Blu ray malfunction etc...). A good warranty should protect your investment in case anything happens.
The jailbreak thing is really a choice of the buyer but in case you are a gaming person being legit is the way to go. Its the only way to play online... free (to boot) on the PSN. Once you've tried online gaming you will be hooked. I've tried and i never played 2k11 and Super Street Fighter IV offline again.

This is the risk of importing sa HK or US, the sellers themselves are not covered by warranties and will not be able to return these lemon units to Sony. LIkewise, majority of these local shops do not have competent technicians that could handle your PS3. Repair of the PS3 normally is done via reflowing or reballing and only a handful of technicians can do this in Manila.
I guess bottomline is if you are on a tight budget and is seriously considering buying from DB or shops in GH, ensure that you talk to the store and make it clear about the warranty.

Well, I asked this question before, as far as I can remember, it plays Region A for BDs.... and since it's an Asian version, it plays Region 3 for DVDs.

Hi... yes, you can upgrade your HDD later on if you want. I have a 160gb and plan to upgrade to 500gb soon. Madali lang daw but since I have enough space pa naman, I'm still ok with the 160gb. Sir, if I may suggest, don't have it unlocked to play "ehem" games... mas maganda kung may online experience plus you can download add-ons with the games (disc-based) you'll purchase. You can go naman for 2nd hand games, marami nagbebenta sa marketplace or some other websites. :)

nope, un mga last versions lang ng PS3 Fat un dual lens. To check if its dual lens, tignan niyo un serial number nun PS3 Fat. Un Serial number ng mga dual lens para ganito CHH*****.

PS3 320GB at Datablitz is 13.4k (Black and Blue, White too) 160GB is 12.2k (Black or White model). Cash. Wish they had the red model, but the Blue is very classy...
My wife got a red PS3 320Gb at Mr. Dynamic (3rd floor, VMall) last Friday evening for 13.2k (cash). It was a 3.72FW... which they (Mr. Dynamic) were insisting on upgrading to FW4.0... but, which my wife and I declined to have done.
We will stick with the 3.72 for the meantime.
I preferred the blue PS3... but my 4 year old son is such a Cars fanatic... and red is the only color for him. haha.

Greenhills is your best bet sir. Canvass ka lang around. jailbroken ps3 160gb ranges from 17500 up.
Suggestion store would be iCore. Sila yung may the best store dun sa GH. And we all know that orderly and proper stores suggest good customer service and warranty claims :)

iCore is also called GameXtreme. Sa Virramall sila 3rd floor. Dun ako bumili ng xbox 360 with kinect 2 weeks ago. ;) maganda customer service nila at compared to other stores mas mura...

Here in cebu i saw 2 Different coloured Blue PS3 + White + Red for 14,500 all 320GB.
Astrovision still asking 18,000 for 160GB Black.

Got mine in Datablitz. They sell the 320gb for 13k cash. Regardless of color. Other shops charge 500 for the blue and red versions. Some even the white.
I had the white one. Classy :)

I'm planning to buy PS3 Slim 160 GB (BLACK) brand new.
Right now Datablitz is selling it for P11,450.
and another store is selling it for 15k but, 3/6months 0%interest
The difference of price is so big and they told me that its because of the Warranty.
If its broken "sa supplier nila ipapaayos hindi sa sony kasi hindi sila tie up" according to the Datablitz cashier.
Kailagan ko ng advice kung OK ba sa Datablitz bumili.

I will check on GH if its much cheaper.

Just get it from Datablitz or Mr. Dynamic/iTech.
Wala ka rin mabibiling US version dito anyway. DB used to have US consoles, but only until mid-2008.

This isn't really a problem as long as you game on an HDTV with an HDMI cable. PAL/NTSC doesn't apply to that anymore.

yes there would be problems. Also, you cannot fully utilize your PS3's capabilities if you will just JB it. sayang.
If you can buy 2 ps3s, I think you can buy original blu ray movies and games for it.

di ba most of the new HDTVs are multi systems? if in case the PS3 refuse to play the blu ray, is there any work around like going to the menu and playing the movie directly?

Some do, some don't. It's down to the individual disc.

Well yes. For games it's not a problem anymore at 720p and up, but ideally you need Region A BDs. There's some risk for "region free" BDs coming from Europe.

updating it to the latest FW will not remove this error message. Sony included Cinavia in FW3.0 and above to prevent playback of illegally downloaded videos...
