would you prefer to buy BD player and movies or popcorn hour and just download them..
-
-
If you love collecting movies but hates the space that the discs and casings occupies then having a Popcorn Hour is a neat idea, but I personally love collecting movies regardless of its clutter :D, I prefer buying discs, most of the time downloaded movies doesn't have subtitles and some special features about the movie, its just a matter of preference sir,...

ABC

how long ba does it take to download a 1080p movie..

That would depend sa site na pinagkukunan mo,
I'd answer you via PM na lang, baka mabatas tayo about that...
cheers...

oops sorry..

ako initially i thought getting an egreat will replace my dream of getting a BD player and buying BD discs.
-
For me, there are movies worth buying in blurays, while some can be as mkv or dvd only.
So I will recommend for both.
-
I would recommend both.. for blockbuster movies like Iron Man and Dark Knight, nothing beats blu-ray.. for comedy TV series, puwede na DVD or HD mkv files played on your NMT..

What do you expect from a pirated copy of the real deal... :P

Nope. Most mkv are better than the upscaled dvd kasi usually rip sila from bluray or hddvd which are native 1080p.

i agree ... :D
andito kasi popcorn hour and toshiba XDE500 ni Dom..... so for the past 3 nights very extensive ang gamit and experiment ko .....
kinompare ko Dark Knight DVD ko played sa XDE500 at 1080p ......vs yung Dark knight torrent copy na nasa loob ng popcorn (parang more than 8Gb ang file size, BD ripped). Same case sa Taladega Nights, Bourne Trilogy.
So BD player still gets my vote if you want to be assured of the best quality :)

but with the popcorn c-200 coming this july, and if their implementation of bluray playback is good. then an all-in-one machine is actually already a reality.

hmmm.. anybody interested in my A-110? ;D ;D ;D

they are not similar IMO. So buy both.
PCH is for movie marathon, bd player is for you HT setup show-off for your friends and relatives. :)

do i really need to upgrade my AV receiver pa? di ba kaya ng player i-downmix, for example, DTS-HD to DTS lang? :(
costly upgrade :(
update: I kinda realized that Bluray players uses optical cables for mulitchannel output. eh since one optical input lang ang receiver ko.... it would seem damay pala sa upgrade to bluray ang AV receiver :'( :'( :'(
currently uses optical input for xbox 360 (which, in my opinion, a much much better DVD upscaler but needs tweeking sa TV settings para maging halos kasing liwanag ng toshiba XDE500 sa mga night scenes. Otherwise in my opinion i like it loads better than toshiba :P)

hmmm. sir ment, i think bluray players uses its hdmi to output both video and audio (be it run of the mill multichannel sound like dts or dolby or the newer hidef audio like dts ma or dolby hd). that's what makes this generation's cabling a little bit simple, one hdmi cable for both video and audio.
but what makes everything complicated are the old gears that we have or new gears that dont have the 1.3a and above hdmi protocol built in. for nmts, you may need a coax or optical cable to get the both dts and dolby out since its hdmi is for video only.
but i think your connection is hdmi directly to panel then optical/coax from player (xbox or bluray) to receiver. if you do upgrade to a new avr, all you will need are 3 hdmi cable. 1 for bluray (into the avr), 1 for the xbox / xde (into the avr) and 1 for the avr (out to the panel) and you are set for both audio and video. but if you will add an nmt to the mix, another hdmi cable (into the avr) and an optical / coax for sound.
goodluck on your chosen path sir ment.

my receiver is Yammy RXV430 .... no HDMI input .... hindi pa TruHD or DTS-HD capable ... one optical and one coax input :'( :'( :'(
the upgrade would depend kasi on how much I need to shell out pa ..... since it seems damay na ang amplifier sa upgrade ...... my option would be:
1. I push thru the bluray without upgrading the receiver by committing to use the xbox's stereo RCA analog output instead of optical output, then use the bluray optical output into the existing receiver's optical input.....
2. Upgrade to latest AV REceiver with multiple HDMI and optical inputs together with new bluray player ....
since im budgetted. ok ako sa compromise ng option one ;)
ummm ....i love DTS ..... papano sir yung mga dolby truHD and DTS-HD ng BD movies? possible bang i-downmix ng player into standard Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1? :) if pwede tuloy ang ligaya ng pagipun :D
UPDATE : Me pag asa pa ako ...

merun siyang coax digital out yehey!
-
@sir ment

+1 ako dito. if your connection from your bd player is coax or optical digital audio, auto downgrade nga siya from hd audio to plain jane dts or dolby. you just have to set it up on the player that you want digital sound to output from the coax / optical and not hdmi.
and if you are going to still use your receiver. to save some money. then sir pogzz "abang" method is the way to go. ;)
-
thank you for the helpful tips boss pogzz505 and boss iiinas..... i downloaded the user manual of both LG BD390 and Panasonic DMP-BD60K kanina ...... and did some light reading during company hour ;D yes both states it automatically downgrade to DD or DTS when used with Coax or Optical digital out :) kaya kahit papano am happy now ...
now ay mag re research naman ng mga BD players and get myself familiar with new tech and new terms :D :D

sirs,
i have the same dilemma as the thread starter. right now I'm choosing from investing in Popcorn Hour C200 or the Oppo BDP-83. i share the opinion of sir oreoshake with regards to what titles to get from bd and not.
here's the thing. i use my pc to download files. I need a small nmt to use it to play those files using a flash drive (hard disk can come later). was already setting myself to invest in ps3 slim + egreat m34a. the egreat will be moving from the living room to our bedroom from time to time
but when i saw the oppo player and the pch c200, it changes everything
need your suggestions, sirs. i plan to get one by the year end as a reward for myself.
fyi: i plan to use ps3 for movie watching and some gaming. but i find wii to be better for me since i could work out while playing games ;D

if bd discs playback will have no problem on bd-rom installed in c200, i'll invest on c200 than bd player :)
im waiting for unit to audition :) sana magkaroon na sa pdvd suking tindahan :)

mukhang mabigat bro... bd-rom i saw are expensive... plus the cost of bd discs
if u hav budget constraints, nmt is the way to go :)

you should not have passed off the php 6.6K samsung bp1500 bluray player i texted you weeks ago ;D now my officemate is reaping its reward ;D
madugo ang BD video ;D but if you choose your title purchases wisely then its affordable. lalo dito sa forum natin madaming sellers that sells their Bds at friendly prices
in my opinion about files playable in NMT ... it is dependent sa know-how ng nag back-up ng mkv file. some copies are not satisfying ang hina dialog biglaNG BA BA BOOOM!!![/B]

nmt talaga balak ko... but nung makita ko yung c200, naisip ko na maybe I can get the best of worlds. kesa bumili ako ng 2 separate units.
-
wow, a bd player for 6.6k??? ;D
-
yup sir moejun. ako yun nagbenta ng 6.6t. ( pay later pa)
sobrang tuwa nun officemate namin ni ment.
pwede pa mag hiram ng bd's sa akin. (naka 6pcs movies n isa . . . . bd's )
:) ;) :D ;D
-
wow, a bd player for 6.6k??? ;D
hehehe.. thanks again from both me and my friend :)
-
cool, i still think that the bdp1500 is the sexiest player out there. glad he's enjoying it!!!
-
ako both, yung mga movies na talagang fav mo buy them sa BD and yung hinde naman download na lng MKV.
they have almost have the same quality....
-
my solution here is to get a bd player that has USB capabilities to play divx and mkv. you get to play dvd, blu ray and digital files stored on hdd
-
Getting a separate media player would still be the best approach.
It's unlikely that a usb player built into a disc player will be as good as a standalone media player. Sure, media files will play on a BD player with mkv capabilities. But sooner or later, you're going to run into some problems.
With a narrow field of specialization, you get the advantage of quality performance. That's true not only for video players, but also for doctors, lawyers, etc. ... ;)
-
I agree with Sir Barrister.
-
Buy both ;D It would be costly alright if you have a BD player but at times also it's worth it if you are really serious in PQ & SQ , NMTs saves you alot but it has also its downsides like download time & the PQ, SQ are not really at PAR w/ the BLU-RAYS. These are just my 2cents, just choose what really would satisfy you for long term usage that would be the most important part, Goodluck ;)
