After 14 years of using every makeshift room for my HT i decided to use our veranda for my dedicated HT. Im very excited about this project.

Mawala na ang veranda magkaron lang ng HT!! ;D Congrats sir and we will all be waiting for the result of this project of yours. ;)
Any color suggestion for my ceiling?
Ideally dark, mat in color if possible to avoid reflection. ;)
Are you planning on putting a diffuser on your walls? Sayang yung space in between the walls. Read ka lang sa Setting Up childboard for some tips and tricks.
Goodluck! 8)
-
Another great HT in progress...keep us posted.
Congrats in advance! ;D ;D ;D
IMO only bro, just pick your darkest favorite color for the ceiling. Light colors tend to absorb/reflect the light off of your screen.

Actually, black is the best ... ;D ;D
But a dark neutral color should be fine. Another earth tone to match with your existing palette.
Good luck! :)

Hi Mike,
Any suggestion on how to dampen the squeaks?, by the way I'm very satisfied with my SVS PB12NSD. Thanks.

Hi Mike,
Any suggestion on how to dampen the squeaks?, by the way I'm very satisfied with my SVS PB12NSD. Thanks.
In my experience ... the sources and cures for squeaks vary.
The best will be to run test tones from the lowest frequencies up. Together with your contractor, look for the squeaks at each frequency and solve each one individually.

Hi Mike,
Any suggestion on how to dampen the squeaks?, by the way I'm very satisfied with my SVS PB12NSD. Thanks.
have you identified where the squeaks are coming from? or pre-emptive ba ito?
i find the squeaks mostly coming from:
1) lighting fixtures both ceiling concealed and surface mounted (ceiling or wall) - basically, i put either foam or rubber in between the squeaking parts
2) metal parring of the ceiling both from overall flexing of the ceiling or just metal to metal squeaks - if it's the former, the parring should be stronger, if it's the latter, again some sort of insulation in between the X and Y parrings should be installed
3) doors and windows - for doors, i use weather sealing tapes
-
Thanks Streetmart and Mike for the inputs.

Are you sure you want to have that blue ceiling? I'm sure it will be nice to look at but it may affect the perception of the colors on your display. Normally, it is better to have a neutral color, especially in the area directly around your screen (both walls and ceiling).

I was planning to have it all black but aesthetics prevailed. Maybe i can sacrifice a little loss of detail for beauty. Anyway have to see it for myself If i can take little imperfections maybe i'll stick with it if not have to redo it all over again. Which is kinda expensive he he he!

Doesn't have to be black. Could be any neutral color. I don't think it's that expensive to redo. Maliit lang area.
But anyway, might as well live with it for a while and see if you want to change it in the future.

if i may add sir, since your wall's color e brown, imo, mas bagay ang earth color. subdued. classic. no offense sir, medyo magkalaban ang blue at brown, at least base sa picture. it might be a lot different sa actual. at syempre pa kung happy kayo sa ganyang combination e yun naman ang mahalaga po.
anyways, malapit-lapit na po yan ah. ayos!

I believe you are selling your SVS 12 inch sub, why not use 2 of them instead of upgrading to a single SVS pb13? Unless you are planning to have 2 pb13s?
My 2 cents

The remaining 1% is the 2nd SVS PB12-NSD? That's actually a pretty good idea. A 2nd 12" sub will give you a flatter (or tighter) response, while a single 13" sub will give you a slightly deeper bass. Between the 2 options, I'd choose the flatter response.
You need to locate them equidistant from your main listening position, which means that you'll probably just put the 2nd one to the right of the center speaker.
Make sure that they have the same volume level at the rear. Set phase to 0 for both. Disable the Low Pass Filter at the rear of the sub. Run Audyssey again for just a single measuring point. If the Sub trim is -12 db, lower the volume of the subs even more until the sub trim recommended by Audyssey is at most -10 db.
After that, you can experiment by moving the subs closer to the corner and see what you prefer.
I also suggest you try to put your 2 front speakers a bit away from the side wall and a bit more forward. I think the frequency response will also become flatter. Same with the center channel - you can move it slightly forward and make sure that the tweeter is pointed at your ears when you are at the main listening position, else, lagyan mo ng kalso ang stand. Experiment ka lang. Even small changes (8" to a foot) can make a big difference.
Good luck!

Actually nakuha ko na yesterday yung 2nd pb12nsd. Tested it without calibration. I must say I'm very very satisfied. Now i can't hear the LFE anymore i just feel it literally. I can feel my couch being shot by bullets and shotguns. It's like you're where the action is. I can feel my pants moving. Got to thank Alvin Jambam and you for the suggestions. Anyway gonna calibrate it again tonight
-
thanks and congrats sa ht set up.

Great ... but it will get better as you set it up properly, especially making sure that the volumes match and their trim is below -12 db. There's a lot of experimentation that you can do with the sub location (as well as the other speakers), together with Audyssey calibration.
With regard to the frequency response of the other speakers, Audyssey provides you a chart which shows the filter that it is applying. If a new speaker location results in lower peaks or dips, that location is better in principle. Just memorize or take a pic of the chart before you re-run Audyssey.
By the way, it is very important to make sure that all your speakers are set to "Small" and LFE is set to "LFE" only, not "LFE+Main." Set the crossovers of the speakers to at least the next higher frequency than that which is recommended. Remember that the Audyssey filters for the subwoofers are much more than the ordinary speakers so its better to pass on more of the audio to the subs (to a max of maybe 110 hz).

There's no overkill naman sa subwoofer size for a particular room as quoted from Mike C. I was thinking of two ultra's pa nga kung may budget lang. The benefits of a dual subwoofer is that having a near flat response curve and wide area of sweet spot(more listeners will feel the bass). By achieving a flat response curve the details will be crystal clear no overpowering of other frequencies which would result to a muddy bass.
For my personal experience after upgrading to dual subs, you can feel the bass instead of just hearing it. I can feel my couch move, no need for bass shakers. Suddenly you are transported inside the movie. I can feel the cars pass by me in the Fast and Furious, I can feel their engines growl as if their inside my HT(only the scent of smoke would complete it). You can feel cars crashing into my walls, feel the impact of every punch, bullets struck your chest. The movie is now entirely new. I begin to watch my blu rays again and hear details i've never heard before.
We often neglect the .1 LFE channel in a 5.1 mix, but I think the .1 LFE channel contributes around 50% to the totality of the mix. If you don't hear LFE's properly, the whole movie would be entirely different. In essence the LFE channel completes the immersion of a 5.1 channel mix, you are not totally immersed unless you can reproduced the LFE's accurately.
You have to experience it to believe. I was once a doubting Thomas, but now a believer.
-
kakainggit talaga grrrr!!!
if there's a top 10 HT setup here, isa na itong sa inyo sir. lakas makaalis ng pagod yan. ;)

It's a spectrometer or colorimeter, used for professional video calibration. That particular one is called a "Hubble." Top of the line. Very accurate and fast. You need to use that device in combination with software in your laptop and screen patterns from a bluray, dvd or directly from a pattern generator.
-
grabe naiyak ako sa setup... nice one sir!!! :D
