I was looking at the current titles on sale at both Astrovision and at Odyssey, and what I noticed is that virtually all the titles released by Universal Studios (movies and TV series, old and new) are at 50% off.
Titles include:
Jurassic Park Trilogy
The Mummy Trilogy
Darkman Trilogy
The Jason Bourne Trilogy
The Fast and the Furious films
House Season Boxed Sets (Including Season 5)
Heroes Season Boxed Sets (Including Season 3)
Battlestar Galactica Boxed Sets
Las Vegas Boxed Sets
The Office Boxed Sets
30 Rock Boxed Sets
I asked, and the store manager at one shop said this sale on Universal titles would only be for one month.
Can Magnavision confirm this?

I also noticed this when I was at Rockwell. Yes, saw most of the boxed sets at 50% OFF. They also have titles for as low as P185. They have a separate booth for this sale outside O Music, reason why some titles are cheaper at the booth compared to the one's at the store.

There are some bargains to be had here. But not all are true 50% off. I'd seen The Nanny S1 and S2's (which were first released for something like 550/450) price jacked up to 1000, before applying the 50%.
I was able to get a couple of titles at very low prices, but seeing that I'd paid 1,500 for my House MD S5, just a couple of weeks back (It's still on my shelve - unopened since I already finished watching S5 through another means :) ), I am not sure if I were to laugh or cry )or get angry)...

was able to get the following half their marked price : THE SCHINDLER'S LIST, SPARTACUS 2-DISC, JAWS 30TH ANNIV.EDITION 2-DISC ~ 149.50 PHP each and RAY 2-DISC - 99PHP

Was able to get the Mr. Bean Boxset at 400. Johnny English and Mr Bean Holiday at 150 each.
Funny thing is, on the Mr. Bean Boxset, Mr. Bean Volume 2 is only DVD 5 considering there are lots of episodes on it. The rest are DVD 9. But still at 100 pesos per disc, pwede na.

Did anyone saw the price for the Jurassic park trilogy? Is it 2 disc per movie?
It's about P400+. Tempted to get it but the only movie I like is the first one. Don't know if it's 2-disc per installment but from what I know, all the DVD releases of the three movies (special editions) were just one disc. So expect just three discs with this compilation and one bonus features disc.

That might be a store gimmick at a branch you visited, techdude. The Nanny should not be included in this sale. The sale is supposedly for all Universal Studios DVDs. The Nanny is from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Saw Bourne 3logy earlier in Odyssey Olongapo. Same promo. Ang laki ng sticker na 50% OFF kaso ang nilagyan ng discount yung orig price pa yata 1thou something. Php 750 or 650 na lang kuno. Discounted price na un. Haha. Kakaloko :P

Yes, 30 Rock Seasons 1 & 2. I was also surprised to see it at P300 each. Other boxsets I saw for P300 were Lipstick Jungle, Bionic Woman, Las Vegas Seasons 1 to 5, and others I forgot. Happy na ako sa 30 Rock series!! Season 1 is a 3-disc set while Season 2 is a 2-discer. So for P600 total, it's like buying each disc at P120 each which is a real steal for such a fine series.

If dvds are priced like this, imo it will lessen piracy. It will not kill it bec of the vast selection pirated dvds has to offer. They just have to give us more selection and more advanced releases.
I recently bought Public enemies dvd for less than 500 pesos (bec. of this sale). Imo thats a great price. I bought this and not the blu-ray copy or a pirated copy bec. I WANT it that day, that night. Blu is overpriced here and I can't wait for its release in amazon. Thats how buyers shop ;D. Those 750, 895 pesos or above are a joke imo, unless of course you're a collector. If I have a blu-ray player, I will just buy the blu version by adding 200 to 400 pesos sometimes less pa nga. You want mass market buying your stuff. This KIND OF PRICING IS IT ;D ;)
New releases should be below 450, catalogs below 150 ;D imho. Blu-ray prices have really dropped in america already. Permanently? we shall see.

;D. Shucks..Thats what I didn't notice ;D. I got too excited when I saw the price for a new release ;D. Haven't bought dvd for a while. But will surely get the tv series if priced like these. :) I just watched the movie and I have to say the pq is really good. Its a loooong movie btw

Without any slipcases, I have some 2-disc DVDs I got a few years ago from P150-P199 so it's not as farfetched. Anyway, one can always hope ;D

Agree...almost the same price na din pala. I remember during those first Astro Sale at the Podium, mahina ang 5K sa loot, sometime we still come back the next day for more. Nowadays, your 5K will get you about 2 full plastic bags na siguro, and with boxed sets at that.
I hope distro's will make this events more often, especially now that the jacks are really catching up on the legits, not only with regards to the PQ & SQ, but in terms of packaging, saw a jack from a friend Indiana Jones Quadrilogy in Steelbook. :o

I also heard this from the lady in Astro sm manila. This is the reason why they are selling it now at these prices daw. I think it "may" be true.

The most ang na-spend ko at the Podium Astro sale a couple of years back was about 3K. I came away with just one reusable-bagful of DVDs. I can imagine how things will probably be different now with falling prices. Baka maka-dalawang bag na sana ;D

hehe..Astro podium should have a "biggest sale in the history of dvd in the Philippines" ;D this December. Just in time for Christmas. This would be awesome. :)

Apparently very true, however, it's not clear who gets the rights to Universal DVD releases:
1. According to an Astrovision branch manager, Universal DVDs will now be handled by VIVA.
2. According to an Odyssey branch manager (at a branch where all the Universal titles were pulled out already), Universal Records will now be handling Universal DVDs, as well.
If it's Viva, I really hope they handle it similar to the way they release their Fox/Disney titles.

Haven't seen both. I have Las Vegas 1 & 2 but still haven't watched them. Based on reviews, both are very entertaining shows. Las Vegas is an entertaining, popcorn "dumb" series while Monk is an entertaining "smart" detective series. Monk won an Emmy so it must really be a good show. Las Vegas has more style than substance. Both should be fun to watch. But then again, it really depends on your taste. Good luck.

^I was about to regret not going to Powerplant to check the sale when I saw your post but then again patience is a virtue talaga, bought 30 Rock Seasons 1 & 2 din for P200 each at Podium this morning with a couple of other titles for P100/P99.75 but was disappointed that all other items were priced the same as with other video stores cause I expected a different pricing scheme with them as with their previous sales when they were still on the fourth floor.

I have the receipt with me, I checked it earlier. Both Season 2 and 2.5 is P200. Season 1 is 400 while season 3 is 500. Did you see any season 4 and 4.5 na sale din?

Not sure if I spotted Seasons 4 and 4.5.
The boxset prices have really gone down, good for us collectors. So when you think it has hit rock bottom, it goes down even lower. What could be next?

Thanks very much sir, I was headed to podium but the darn traffic was so bad (I didn't even try) so I went to MOA instead. I called them up and they are priced the same naman. I went ahead and bought Monk season 1 to 6 at 300 pesos each and Las vegas season 2 to 5, it ranged from 300 to 499 ata. It was pretty damaging ;D but I thought ok na each season for the two series averaging around 330 pesos. Hard to beat these prices na ;D. I had to sneak in our place and hide them from my wife ;D

Got 30 Rock S2 at 200. S1 I bought at 600 a couple of weeks ago. Tempted to get Heroes S3 at 500, but I don't like that series that much, so decided to wager that the price will get lower for that series (at the risk of it being sold out).
Also tempted to get House S1-5 at ridiculous prices of 300 -500 per season, even if I already have them. But I can't think of someone to give them to, it's just too tempting not to buy, even if you really have no need of them. :)
