Title: The Sharon Cuneta Thread
Post by: justine on Feb 28, 2003 at 08:31 PM
Since there is a Nora Aunor Thread in this forum, i thought of starting a Sharon Cuneta Thread.

I know that Ate Shawie is not as good as Nora, but she has her good points.

I guess in my generation, she is our Nora Aunor/Vilma Santos.  I remember the first movie i saw in the movie theater is PS I Love You.  I immediately fell in love with the Sharon-Gabby loveteam.  Since then i watch all of their movies together, My Only Love, Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin, Sa Hirap at Ginhawa, Pati ba Pinting ng Puso?, and of course, Dear Heart (I have been looking for this movie for the longest time).

Like the other Sharonians, I was so happy when the real/reel loveteam finally got married.  I even watched the movie on their wedding with all the clips on their previous movies.

I am wondering why did Viva not re-issue the movie My Only Love in VCD?

I have watched almost all of her movies except the ones with the Action Stars.  I even forgot the titles of those movies.

Her other movies that I also love are:
Madrasta
Minsan Minahal Kita
Bituing Walang Ningning
Tayong Dalawa
Una Kang Naging Akin

In terms of acting and singing .. not even close.

i like her songs: "mr. dj"

"mahal kita, mahal mo siya, mahal nya ay iba...."  <although not really sure if this one's really hers.>

although im not really a hanger-on to this artist....i still like some of her early films and her being an actress. :)

i'd say she's a 'record-breaker'  ;)

compared to the movies that are being shown these days, kundi bold eh copycat (tagalized) version of a hollywood movie, mas naappreciate ko pa din yung movies ni sharon.

i hate to admit but it's so refreshing to watch her movies.  simple lang yung story, nothing political, not the "trying-to-vie-for-an-award" type of material.
although sabi nila mababaw, at least original yung story.

generally, i liked the movies which were shown in the 80s.  Yes, including sharon's movies. (but i still think maria is the better actress.)

I have to admit that Sharon is not good at acting as the others.

But I think her fans love her not because of her acting ability but of other things, like her charms and smile perhaps. ;D

Just like Ann and Sungit, I am a die-hard sharonian too.

People are entitled to different tastes, I like Sharon so sue me.  ;D

Hi! I must admit that my first experience at a local cineplex was a Sharon movie. Must admit I have seen almost all her films except the one with Andrew E. and the one directed by Caparas.

Interestingly, she will be seen in three movies this year if all movies get to be shown. She is doing Walang Kapalit with Richard Gomez and Kung Ako Lang Sana with Aga Muhlach. She is also working on The Crying Lady with Hilda Koronel.

One of the VERY few Sharon movies I saw was Biktima, heck not even sure if the title was right. I thought it was good though. I hate it when she tries to modulate her voice when she's crying or shouting or being angry. Maybe my liking of the movie has something to do with Bembol Roco ... an underappreciated actor but someone I would consider a lot better than Christopher de Leon and Philip Salvador given the chance. Does he even have any statue to show for it ?

Huh ? Di ba ito 'yung naagrabyado siya ni Christopher de Leon and Bembol Roco helped her out to exact vengeance ? If not, I must be talking of a different movie. Help us out here Noel ...   :'( :'( :'(

Kakabanas, the Sharon movie with Christopher de Leon and Bembol Roco is called Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita.

Just like Christopher de Leon, Bembol Roco also won Best Actor with his first movie. The two are Brocka discoveries, Christopher in Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang and Bembol in Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag.

It's probably been asked before but I still wonder why MY ONLY LOVE is the only Sharon Cuneta movie not available on VCD/DVD? I've seen the clips of the movie when GMA is promoting it's new TV serialization and I believed there exists a copy. I like this movie's simple yet watchable plot which is now marred once again by airing as a SineNovela in GMA-7 coupled with uninspired casting. It's still in BETA format the last time I've seen this.

My Only Love starred Sharon & Gabby with Jackie Lou Blanco, Amalia Fuentes, Mario Montenegro & Liza Lorena directed by Eddie Garcia. this was Viva's 2nd film after P.S. I Love You...

"Simple yet watchable" is the best way to describe most of Sharon's films.  I kindda miss the simplicity of 80's movies.  Who starred with her on My Only Love?

I think the highlight of the film is when Jackie Lou found out about the same necklace Gabby gave to both of them. I believed the scene was in a fancy restaurant when Jackie uttered the famous line, "same bracelet...." Forgot the line though.

And yes Stray Cat, local movies then aren't what they're used to be, which is sad really.

KUNG AKO NA LANG SANA is the one with Aga and MINSAN, MINAHAL KITA is with Edu. I think MINSAN is a nicely done movie of Sharon/Richard after many years. Their KAPANTAY ANG LANGIT is so-so for me. Both movies are entertaining to say the least.

This is the only Sharon movie that was not transferred on VHS/VCD/DVD.  (Not counting The Best of Sharon & Gabby na hanggang VHS lang.)  Even Sharon doesn't have her own copy of the film.  According to her, the original print of the film was among those burned when Viva (I think) office got burned.  However, thanks to my friend who is part of the MOL team on GMA, I got a converted copy on DVD.  'Yun nga lang, talagang may sort-of "scratches" na siya during opening and end credits.

Talagang 'yung orig beta format na lang malamang ang mayro'n ngayon from those who bought a copy during its release.

Sorry to the hardcore Sharonians but she is not what she projects to be. Actually some stories are true like the alcohol handwash after shaking hands with fans.  I've witnessed it even smiling in front of people then minamaliit and pinipintasan yung fans na gustong makita lang siya up close.

Most if not all whom I know have worked with her all say the same thing she's "Tupperware" where you're as plastic as one can ever be and nang mamata ng tao, there are many true stories to be told.  She really puts up a good facade to cover up the real her.

Please note I have no favorites/biases here just posting to give you a picture to see, the real picture...

Far from it, even having nights out with a man after she married again... Personally I was shocked too that was too far although in showbiz it's common.  But with the image she projects it gives me goosebumps.  HOW COULD SHE!?? Being a director's favorite does not mean anything really.  It may be due to many different factors like being the choice for the role for the sake of marketability, profitability, palakasan, contracts, etc... there are many reasons possible

yeah why is it a surprise that rotten people are liked by some? thats normal. alot of people even like saddam and osama. why cant brocka like sharon despite her being an ass?

Ha ha ha is that what they call Director's License siguro?  Maybe Brocka had no choice but to work with the production company's direction with it's stable of stars they want to push?  They will pay for the production of the film anyhow maybe Brocka had no choice. Just my two cents... ::)

Ha ha ha I hope you're right that Kiko doesn't win, surely he will run.  But in fairness there has been some maturity in the voting nowadays... or it may seem.

Wag naman po sana hu hu hu!!!!  Sharon as First Lady Of The Philippines Waaaaaaaag po!!!

last time I checked, males and females still outnumber fags.. and sharon cunetas TV ratings are still low. we're lookin' good! :)

pink moon,

sorry it was said in jest. but yes the accepted vernacular is gay. my bad...  ;)

about sharon cuneta's TV ratings... I believe thats a fact.

besides, Kiko Pangilinan is a Senator who, last time I check promotes Catholicism. So then I believe there is a major disconnect
as he is indeed gay and has had / or still has (secretly) a relationship with ...

I'm surprise that the song 'PAALAM' is being used as the theme for the movie CAREGIVER. I've always love that song originally performed by master balladeer Basil Valdez. Never would have guessed it would sung again by another artist.

I missed that. Regine also recorded numerous Basil songs one of which is SOMETIME, SOMEWHERE. Basil has that distinct voice that I long for nowadays. Greatful that Vicor on their 40th Anniversary released a 4-CD Basil Valdez compilation. I love that he used to sing the theme songs for Viva drama films in the '80's mostly those of Vilma's. I like Regine's LUMISAN KA MAN, the theme for SEPARADA which I believe was never released in the market.

Just saw CAREGIVER. A simple yet well-intentioned film about the plight of Filipinos working (or in some cases not working) in other countries. Nora has done it 'MERIKA, VILMA in PINAY, AMERICAN STYLE and ANAK and now, Sharon. Though it's been tackled before, the movie still offers some new insights. There's a bit of twist at the end. A welcomed vehicle for Sharon. A much better effort from Star Cinema after the forgettable WHEN LOVE BEGINS.

maybe it was sharon who suggested the song for the film. it is one of her favorite songs but has forgotten the title. when she worked with louie ocampo on her concert two years ago, she asked that song by singing it. she asked louie if she could make her own version, but louie told her that regine did it already for "covers volume 1". nanghinayang si sharon, but she sang it during the concert in 2006.

i was also surprised that it was used for the film. parang di bagay, naisip ko. but when you get to see the entire film, it fits well naman pala.

miss ko na rin 'yung basil valdez theme songs. his voice is very haunting na swak naman sa mga films na kinantahan niya ng theme songs.

very nice indeed. people were expecting a heavy drama but it wasn't. mabigat 'yung tema pero tama lang ang pagkaatake. no hagulgol or hysterical moments. tamang luha lang.

I thought it fits well after hearing PAALAM in the trailer. There's a very slight change in lyrics. A word? :)

Absolutely right. The trailer may misled the viewers that the film is a very heavy drama.

MEGA TATLONG DEKADA on Ch. 2

Her 30 years in the business culminates in the recently shown 2-hour docu. My thoughts:

~ A whole segment on all 12 McDo commercials!

~ I wished Ms. Laurice Guillen could've talk more than Karen Davila.

~ Danny Zialcita in a very brief and rare TV interview. Nice.

      ~ Nice docu overall.

Next week, her MEGA 30 Concert will be shown on where else?

Sharon excels in everything...singing, acting, hosting, etc. She's the one and only queen of 80's and 90's...wag ng isali si Maryang OA hahaha :D

http://abante.com.ph/issue/mar1412/ent_jn.htm

“Sorry tweeties. It makes me really sad that such a fun place like Twitter can be so open to abusive and mean people. There are some that deserved to be ignored, and there are some that just need to be reminded on what they CANNOT be doing to people who are living decent lives. If I weren’t Christian, I’d let my temper blow kasi binababoy na pagkatao ko at anak ko.

“I have the right to defend us. I just don’t want to break a commandment kundi sinuway ko na ang THOU SHALL NOT KILL! But to bear false witness against another – in this case, me- is breaking a commandment too.

“Sana uso pa rin ang eye for an eye. Pero in truth, I am praying to God to face these people for me. I haven’t done anything wrong to them. And remember – what goes around comes around. I am sorry though I dunno why should I be apologizing when the fact is, I am decent and was well brought – but don’t mistake those for my being a wimp. I push back harder when I’m pushed, darn it!”
