Title: Cablelink (cable tv provider)
Post by: tonedeaf on Sep 10, 2010 at 10:22 AM
For those in the market, there's an alternative to Sky, Destiny, Dream and Cignal. It's called Cablelink and, from their promo spots, is available in the following areas in Metro Manila: Las Pinas, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Taguig, Pasig, Pasay, QC and Manila.

Website: http://www.cablelink.com.ph/index.html
Monthly fee: 495

No, i'm not connected with them. I'm just a subscriber.

Cons: very limited sports channels (only ESPN, Star Sports and Solar); no ANC; no BTV
Pros: all the Discovery channels I can think of, History, Bio

Right now, it's test-broadcasting Al Jazeera, Warner TV and this asian movie channel called screen red or screen R3D (can't figure out exactly).

Used to be from Skycable. I miss BTV and ANC. I hear Balls is showing the US Open, so I guess I miss it too, sort of (never liked any of the other programming).

do they do analog (read: connect more tv in your house) or digital subscription?

alam ko "analog".  nag splitter sila kahit per TV yung bayad ko. ::)

pero sulit sa dami ng movie and kiddie channels. hindi ako lilipat sa mas mahal with lesser channels.

a few days ago they were offering dsl bundled with cable TV.  Baka sa scheme na to digital.  ???

i live near marcelo on the west service road between bicutan and sucat and i wanted to subscribe here some years ago kaso when i called them, they didn't have cable service in our area. now i saw their website, kasali na kami kaso naka-subscribe na ako for one year sa sky...sayang.

I've been with them for more than 3 years and I'm very satisfied with their service. I don't really watch that much cable tv  but the channels that I'm looking for are included in their package. Some of the channels included are CNN, BBC, Discovery, Animal Planet, NatGeo, History, CI, Bio, HBO, Star Sports, Espn, Star Movies, Nickoledeon, Nicktoon, and Disney. They don't have BTV but they have NBA League Pass. Btw, it is for only P495.

Ang alam ko yung finals lang ang nawawala kaya magtyatyaga ka kina Andy Jao at Quinito Henson.   ;D Aside from that, very much happy with their service too.  :)

just got off the phone with a customer service rep. They now have digital channels, including NBA premium. Monthly subscription is 1,200 (compared to the original 495). Installation fee is 4,000 but they've got a 50% promo for the first few subscribers.

Parang di sulit sa akin ngayon kasi halos tapos na NBA season, and my team is already eliminated. Hehe.

just subscribed to their HD pack ... includes NBA and free Pacquiao vs Bradley fight on HD ... it's 2k cash out for the set top box and 1.2k per month ... i've been wanting to get Dream or Signal on my home, but not possible as i'm living in a condo ... this is a  good alternative for me

i'll update the thread on the quality and added channels ... it will be installed either Friday or Saturday

Hindi ako connected sa Cablelink ... medyo na-excite lang ako kaya sunod-sunod ang post ko ... been using Dream Satellite in my previous place in Malate 7-years ago before I moved to this condominium in Paranaque and have to contend with Cablelink analog transmission for the past 7 years ... hopefully di ako ma-disappoint sa quality pag na-install na ... i'd be very satisfied kung same quality ng Dream Satellite ko 7-years ago  ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: Cablelink (cable tv provider)
Post by: raptor on Jun 08, 2012 at 07:40 PM
I had my HD-pack installed this morning.  As expected, the quality of digital transmission, including those HD channels only is quite impressive.  Same quality or probably even better than the Dream Satellite I had 7 years back, and similar to US broadcast.  HD channels are even more impressive.

There are some caveats however with Cablelink's implementation.  At present, they haven't migrated all their channels to the digital transmission, hence you have to use the TV cable connection and remote for the original channel line-up and use the set top box remote for the new channels - this is something that would go away anyway, I don't think it is beneficial for them to maintain both systems in the long run.

The other issue is the set top box itself.  I've notice that it emits a lot of heat just after about an hour of use.  The unit may not last that long if this is the case.  I'm just hoping that it is effectively using the case as a heat sink, otherwise it will not last long.

Some positive things that I'll be exploring is the PVR feature of the set top box.  This is not advertised by the company, but the box has the feature as indicated in the menus, and it has a USB port.  I'll try hooking up an HDD this weekend and try if I can record anything.

not yet HD, but comparable in quality ... much clearer than the analog channels
Title: Re: Cablelink (cable tv provider)
Post by: raptor on Jun 10, 2012 at 01:24 PM
i plugged-in a 1TB HDD and tried the PVR function of the set top box ... it work properly with HD quality video, but it is only playable from the set top box ... format seems to be proprietary ... it does not allow scheduled recording however ... you can only record what you are watching, but it allows for time-shift recording, meaning you can pause live programming and continue watching to the point you left off

the only bad thing is that Pacquiao lost the fight, so I just deleted the recorded fight :(

This is a good alternative for us destiny subscribers. I hate skycable. Once destiny is gone, i will subscribe here. Although mas ok pa din price ng destiny since mas madami channels offered than this cablelink for the same price.

Just got cablelink digital all in one package. The SD digital channels are a lot clearer compared to the analog channels. The hd channels are impressive. Sayang lang kase nba premium tv is not yet hd. Fox movies hd, starworld hd, fashion hd, outdoor channel hd, nat geo adventure hd, and nat geo hd pa lang. Sana dagdagan pa nila ng hd channels like hbo hd discovery hd pati upgrade sana nba to hd na.

Yes, you are given 1 additional remote for the digibox. However, if you only subscribe to NBA HD, you don't need the digibox remote. You just press AV and you get to NBA HD already.

A few days after installation and my digibox has conked out. Indicator says power is turned on (green light) but it's not responding to remote - whether to power on or off, volume, channel etc. buttons in front also not responding. also, there's nothing showing. I just get a blank screen.

I've tried:

1. Unplugging power cord;
2. Changing HDMI cable;
3. Removing and re-inserting card;
4. Unplugging and plugging connectors at the back;
5. Changing remote control's batteries.

Wala pa din. Opening pa naman  bukas ng NBA. Kainis.

Title: Re: Cablelink (cable tv provider)
Post by: iammarcotoo on Apr 15, 2013 at 04:41 PM
I am currently subscribed to the All-in-one pack (with HD channels). Not sure if that's the correct term, pero basta ung HD package nila. I actually have no choice but to subscribe to them kasi sila lng accredited sa area nmin. They are also offering Cable Internet, but it is way too expensive than SkyBroadband and it offers no discounts on your cable subscription. Anyway, Coming from SkyCable (digital only) and Cignal (HD in my parent's house), I could make a pretty fair comparison. Hope this helps:

PROS:
1. HD Channel quality is on par with Cignal (1080i/720p)

2. HD package is more affordable than Cignal and SkyCable (comparing the high end plans only)

3. Digital channels are DVD quality just like Sky Cable's and Cignal's (Digital/non-HD)

4. Cablebox has PVR function (can record live shows via attaching HDD through USB.SkyCable's iRecord has additional fees)

5. Based from the last major PPV, HD All-in-one subscribers get this free. Cignal and Sky charges additional fees for PPV. Though I wouldn't know if this will apply to future PPVs.

CONS (a lot!!)
1. If you get the all-in-one, Digital and HD channels go through the Cablebox, Analog local and cable channels go directly through coaxial cable, meaning you have to switch sources on the TV everytime you want to watch local channels or HD/digital channels. Therefore, you can't really straight up channel surf, you have to have the two remotes ready for this. BTW, guys, gurus, help, i have a series 7 Samsung and it says in the specs that it is digital tuner ready, does that mean I can get some digital signals working through direct connection? Haven't tried though.

2. Since some of the channels are analog, picture quality is below par. I mean, I can do away with a stretched picture (analog channels converted to digital by Cignal and Sky), but displaying analog channels through a 46 incher looks like crap.

3. EPG function of the box doesn't work. No program guide/schedule. In this function, Cignal's box is the best since you can set the box to switch channels when a particular show you marked starts. Since the EPG doesn't work, it kind of limits the functionalities of the PVR since you can only record live shows, can't schedule recordings.

4. They don't have the best channel lineup. There is a lack of basic digital and HD channels. HBO, CNN, Discovery and Star Movies are analog, there is no ESPN (replaced by Fox Sports I think, which is analog). Actually, all the Analog cable channels really bugs me..
Comparison:
ESPN - Cablelink (none); SkyCable (Digital at least); Cignal (HD)
HBO - Cablelink (analog); SkyCable (Digital at least); Cignal (HD)
Star Movies - Cablelink (analog); SkyCable (Digital at least); Cignal (Digital)
Local Channels - Cablelink (analog); SkyCable and Cignal (digitally converted/upscaled analog)

5. Not so sure about this, based from ads, Fox Movies Premium HD broadcasts in 5.1 Dolby Digital. Now, I wouldn't know for Cignal since it doesn't really say in the channel information that it is outputting 5.1 Dolby surround sound, but comparing HBO HD and Fox Movies Premium HD on Cignal, there is really a significant difference in terms of sound quality, I'm not sure if it's 5.1, but it's better than Stereo (HBO HD). For CableLink, the channel info clearly says, the FMPHD broadcasts in 720p and Stereo only. Not a very big deal though.

To all other subscribers, I have several questions.
1. Are they going all-digital eventually? if yes, when?
2. Will they offer HBO HD, ESPN HD and Food Network HD in the near future? The HD package of Cignal has these channels and the difference in the MSF is just 90 pesos.
3. Will they upgrade their Box firmware so that the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) can work? I mean Cignal's EPG is not perfect, and not all channels are supported, but it still works, unlike CableLink's

hi guys, i just wanted to ask if you're experiencing the same issue as i'm having on the analog cable tv ... there's a horizontal thick white/blurred line on almost every channel ... the location and the thickness of the said horizontal line is not consistent (it varies on every channel, and some channels do not have it) - sometimes, it is on top, middle or bottom ... below are sample screenshots for your reference ... i've had this issue for quite some time but ignored it ... finally reported it to Cable link this week and they found out that the problem is affecting our entire building (condo) ... they said that they will come back to do further troubleshooting and possibly replace some of their equipment ... i just wanted to confirm if this is limited to our area - hopefully some feedback from other subscribers ... thanks

i think cablelink is the same as las pinas cable. the only cable company na hindi pumatol sa buyout ng sky cable. and its good that walang monopoly ang sky, kung hindi panay ang taas ng subscription rate ng mga yan. ang wala lang yata sa cable link is the skybundle na ayaw DAW sila bigyan ng skycable. the good thing also is that you can have multiple tv connections. sobra yang sky makasingil. sa probinsya, same channeling lang ng sky, 350/month lang singil.

I am pretty much ok with Cablelink but I wish they had more news channels (i.e. Al Jazeera) and they definitely need to add sports channels.

there's Al Jazeera and Fox News if you avail of the Basic DeeGee package ... i actually like Cablelink much better than SkyCable now that they have the digital package ... i used to complain a lot, but after introducing the digital package i'm very satisfied

Very helpful comments, thanks.

Been backreading, and saw a bit of posts saying you need to switch your tv, from analog to digital if you want to watch hd channels. Is this true?

no need now, if you have the cable box, all channels can be viewed from the cable box

somethings going on with cablelink
just lost a lot of channels(EVERY channel over 66 got cut off) this july. lost nhkworld and kbsworld

and yes, cablelink used to be las pinas cable

i WAS happy with it(had discovery, nat geo, history, bio, nhkworld, warner, etc)
but now im running out of channels to watch
discovery and history channels are mostly 'reality tv' now
theres so much alien conspiracy on history and barely anything historical appear
nhk and kbs are gone

they have recently moved a lot of channels to their digital service - these may have been removed from the analog cable service

not sure if the other cable company have Bio and Travel Channel ... i'm usually stuck on those channels now ... those are great if you're planning home renovations

I just quit CableLink. Too few HD channels for the price. I was waiting for them to differentiate themselves from Sky but the big signings never came.

I just found out last night that they removed Cartoon Network and changed it to disneyXD. I'm not a subscriber of their digital service, im just using their old basic plan even before they changed their name to cablelink.  Now i have Disney channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior.  My kids were all sad because of this.
