Title: Sherlock
Post by: MultipleAngles on Sep 20, 2010 at 12:16 AM
I'm half surprised this series hasn't been mentioned here yet (though I only made it's acquaintance recently myself).

Sherlock
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ZmD3wILRL._SL500_AA300_.jpg)

"It is a contemporary update of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson. Una Stubbs appears as their landlady Mrs. Hudson, and Rupert Graves as DI Lestrade."

Watching the first 15 minutes of this series, I was deathly afraid Sherlock was going to give Dr. Who a run for his money as my favorite Brit hero. Imagine my shock then when I discover that none other than the Doctor's head writer, Steven Moffat, is this show's co-creator. Amazing!

I heard somewhere there is some difficulty getting season two up and running because of the high production costs.

And look out for Benedict Cumberbatch's girlfriend making an appearance on episode 2.

I read it's because of scheduling issues since Moffat is writing episodes for the current season of Doctor Who. Series 2 returns with three new 90-minute episodes in Autumn 2011.

For those who haven't had the chance to see this bloody brilliant update of Sherlock Holmes, AXN Beyond will be airing it this May 6, 2011.

Sherlock is certainly one of the best shows I've seen this year, with awesome performances by the two leads. I regret that I just discovered it a couple of months ago. It's too bad that "seasons" for this series only have 3 episodes each, but at 90 minutes per episode, you can think of them as 3 movies instead.

I downloaded season 1 (3 eps... you gotta love them brits) and I have to say I'm hooked after watching eps 1.  Thanks for the heads up  ;D.

Empire magazine reports that Season 2 of Sherlock will adapt A Scandal In Bohemia, The Hound Of The Baskervilles and The Final Problem. "Season two is what we're calling 'The Woman, The Hound and The Fall’ trilogy," Sherlock creator/writer Mark Gatiss explained. Gatiss also mentioned that filming on Season 2 was only "a week and a bit" away from completion, and will premiere in early 2012.

yup agree sir bitin talaga mga UK series, yung merlin lang ang pinapanood ko na UK series na umaabot ng 12-13 episodes.

Well parang 6 episodes na rin siya kasi 1 episode is 1 and a half hours which is equivalent to 2 normal episodes na 43 minutes....

I didn't realize that even Season 2 would only have 3 episodes. Darn.  :'(

But it's a fantastic series. I've been recommending it to everyone.

I love Moriarty and Irene Adler.

i loved how in seasone 2 episode 2's hound of baskerville, they cast with the werewolf from Being human.

any theories as to how he faked his own death?

any theories as to how he faked his own death?

My guess is that it might involve Sherlock's homeless network, which probably includes the guy on the bicycle that bumped into Watson as he was running towards Sherlock's fallen body.

Great series, though I admit that it's too fast for me. I had to pause sometimes, replay some scenes. But I have no problem completing a marathon of all episodes. I don't understand why some fans hate Adler, I hope she comes back for season 3. Scandal in Belgravia is my favorite episode so far. Also, I've read most explanations on why Moriarty killed himself, but personally I still feel dissatisfied he'd do that.

The Empty Hearse was a truly fantastic episode--it was like being reunited with old friends, and there were brilliant touches of humor strewn throughout. Bilbo's John's reaction to Sherlock's reappearance was priceless.  ;D

Casting Martin Freeman's real-life wife, Amanda Abbington, as Mary was perfect, same for Benedict Cumberbatch's real parents appearing as Sherlock's parents.

Title: Re: Sherlock
Post by: Mr. Hankey on Jan 13, 2014 at 04:40 PM
I didn't like the change in focus this season. All the cases took a backseat to the personal relationships of the characters. It was more balanced in previous years. This year, the mysteries they solved all just felt like filler.

Another year or so until next time...
Title: Re: Sherlock
Post by: dibidi on Jan 15, 2014 at 12:42 PM
and then the season is finished. i think the season was more of a filler overall. i agree that cases were a bit dry but they did do good job in character building.

Steven Moffat has confirmed that the Sherlock Christmas Special will take place in Victorian London, and is a stand-alone episode that doesn't connect with the regular series (see photo above).

Moffat said:
"The special is its own thing; we wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it--as we could hardly conceal--it’s Victorian. Mark Gatiss and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble."

No specific airdate has been announced yet, but the special is widely expected to air in the UK this December.

I'm thinking it's like a "know thy enemy" thing. Get close to him, then strike when the opportunity is right. Eurus knows that John is important to Sherlock, so hurting him will give her an edge.

The scene where Mrs. Hudson opens her car trunk was hilarious.  ;D
