Avatar Ultimate Edition will be released November 2010 according to a friend from Viva. It will be an imported 3-Disc DVD in a steelbook casing. This will be the first steelbook release of Viva. Im just not sure with the price point that they will be giving??? Looking forward for this. cant wait to watch the bonus features and more.
Btw, they will also be releasing Alien Anthology Bluray Boxset (Alien Egg packaging) it's a 6 disc bluray collection with 4 hours of never-before-seen content. Priced at 2800 - i think this is a great deal since a regular single disc bluray is at 1500.

Wow! Here's hoping both will sell a gazillion copies so that Viva will be given an incentive to import more of these limited edition/premium packaging DVDs/Bluray...
The Alien Quadrilogy is a great buy at that price!

Hi guys..i got updates from Viva..I called yesterday and sabi nila it's Avatar Extended Collector's Edition, this 3-Disc DVD in steelbook casing will be priced at P999. Sobrang ok yung price since normally 1k plus mga steelbooks sa outlet. And this will also be available on Bluray at P2500 3-Disc din. Pero I think walang regular packaging for this one since meron pa silang existing na regular Avatar DVD sa market.

Actually the PHP 2500 for the bluray is justifiable. Amazon's SRP is $55. The current $25 price is Amazon's usual low price at launch strategy to undercut the competition. The Philippine market is not large enough to foster the same kind of competition, guess we have to live with that. At least, it's in steelbook, and that is worth a premium.

The release has been re-scheduled for November 24, according to Odyssey. No explanation for the delay though.

99% of Fox Releases are good, so you breathe easy and buy it (if you like it) without second thought...

Just got mine now. 999 3-discs in steelbook! Do check your copies though. Disc 1 has some light scruffs. I opened 2 copies and both have scratches.

Disc 3 - no scratch
I started watching the Extended Collector's Cut last night and finished its segment on disc 1. I'll be watching more on disc 2 today.
Picture quality is very good for me, comparable with that of the previous DVD release. Still I'm trying to find any noticeable change in picture quality.
As for the added cut scenes, they somewhat affect the pacing but at the very least they show more of James Cameron's vision and concepts. I find them enlightening to watch and I can hardly wait to see more later.

Dolby Digital 5.1, 2.0. No DTS on DVD. The Bluray has DTS HD-MA 5.1.

The DVD/Bluray features seamless branching and includes The original theatrical release, the extended theatrical re-release (+8 minutes) and the new Extended Collector's version (+16 minutes) on one disc. The other two discs are for the extra features.

Same here. Got it from SM Marikina Thanksgiving Sale yesterday.
The discs I got were all scratch free, but the steel casing has slight scratches at upper back portion. This was the only copy left, so I got it anyway.

It's really great to watch the Extended Cut of Avatar (half of it on disc one, and the other half on disc two), and all those added cut scenes really added to the entertainment and enlightenment value of the film.
On disc two, I got to watch Message from Pandora, which is a video about James Cameron's interaction with a tribe in Brazil whose lives will be affected by the proposed river dam project of the government.
I have yet to watch disc three though.

Got mine today, thankd to my gf...it was her advanced christmas gift. We bought our copy at astrovision megamall. All 3 discs do not have any scratches, and the package is also in mint condition.

Hmm... somehow I dislike having to change discs when watching a movie.. but of course I understand the limited capacity of a disc.. anyhow, just want to ask if the other versions of the movie are cut in half as well (i.e. Original Theatrical Version and Special Edition Re-release..). Thanks!

They're cut as well. Disc 1 first half, Disc 2 second half. Parang VCD lang. Nagpalit ka pa. Bakit kasi hindi na lang ONE VERSION ONE DISC EACH?

Very convenient for me, that it was not 1 disc per version, since i don;t get to watch dvd's always, due to work load. I just watched the 1st half before i went to bed, then watched the other half the next day. It also gives me a chance to do some stretches, and walks, since my work involves been at the pc most of the time. Para naman may exercise ako kahit papano.
So, it just fine. No plans of getting a blue-ray version, wala na akong pambili nun. Unless people would choose an architect over an engineer when they want their houses built or renovated, that would be the time that i could really get into this hobby. But such is not the case in this country, even if there is already a law that does not allow the engineers to practice my profession, which is offering design services to clients other than that of their specialization (i.e., civil works for CE, mechanical works for ME, etc).
Going back, di ko pa natatapos panoorin lahat ng features ng DVD na ito. Mahirap pag freelance.

From what I understand, the film features seamless branching, or the three version shares the same one transfer, on certains points scenes were just seamlessly added (like a fork in the road). So while the theatrical cut could fit on one disc, the other two might not, unless the transfer rate is lessened (PQ will take a hit).
They could have just added a disc for the original theatrical cut and two for the other versions, but they didn't, Maybe it's Fox's way of differentiating this from their original release (or prevent you from giving the versions you don't care about to others)...

My copy has a problem. I went to AStro Southmall & surprised to see one copy left of this steelcase version of a movie. Been out of the country when this was released & when i came back on Feb 2011, ubos na ang stock. no surprise because it is worth the price with the release version. nakakagulat pa is the price, 750 pesos. anyhow, to cut the long story short when i played it, last few chapters on disc 1 & 2 have freezes. so syempre bad trip. i checked these discs scratch free naman. even the disc 3, may mga minor skips, may naghahang na chinese subtitles pa nga haha. anyhow, so i returned it to the same branch, they checked it on their philips player, may mga freezes din but not as much as i experienced on my own pioneer player, so i was thinking if my player is at fault or their player is better as it played with lesser freeze, at the end, they offered to replace it for a different title kasi wala na rin stock yung avatar steelcase. sabi ko i will just wait, just make a note on my receipt na lang.
thinking back, the package of this title when i bought it looks re-wrapped. so hindi kaya returned item na rin ito at binenta na lang ulit to make a fool of a customer like me? my question for those who have connections or updates in this realm of DVDs, magkakaroon pa ba ng release ng title na ito. because it sold like pancakes last november, its a sure sign na may demand. so pwede pa naman sila release pa para makabenta so that i could replace my lemon copy.
or if any office i can approach to have it replace instead (although the DVD is already with astro), Viva office ba ang lalapitan? hehe thanks

ok na, Astro southmall texted me last friday that my replacement has arrived, got it yesterday & watched it. may mga minor freeze pa rin, isang scene lang naman but i guess ok na. im tired of chasing it or go through with it. but commendation to Astro na rin ;)

My copy played ok naman. No hiccups even with the branching and being spread over 2 discs... Maybe your player's struggling with the branching..

pwedeng player ko, because the first copy, marami syang hiccups 1st disc pa lang at 44 mins till end of 1st disc. then on second disc sa bandang gitna. but when astro played it on their own player, may mga hiccups din, pero hindi kasing grabe nung sakin. so they had it replaced still.
oh well, 8 years old na rin player ko, busog sa original DVDs yun, hindi man lang nakatikimn ng jack sparrow copies yun. i guess it is showing its age na rin, maybe in a few more months i may have to buy another player. im not yet ready to go blu since i still dont have widescreen LCD tv. hindi sulit kung orig blu ka tapos CRT lang TV ko hehe

Bumigay yung optical nya after about 3 years of faithful service (sulit naman kasi dami na rin na-play, be it jack sparrow or orig hehehe...) Pag luma na yung optical nahihirapan na mag-track, lalo na yung DVDs na may branching. Ganun din symptom ng player ko.
Baka it would be cheaper to have yours repaired (though marami naman murang player ngayon hehe.) Good luck! :)

Hi newbie here. Saw this Avatar 3-disc in a traditional plastic case (or what do you call that?) @ SM MOA dept store with a price tag P299. Is this the same as the steelbook that was released a year ago? Just a different packaging? Thanks.

You can check if it contains the 3 versions of the movie. But most likely yes it's the same DVD package as the steelbook released previously. Get it, it's a great buy at P299! ;)

Just an update. Went back to SM MOA dept store, and the price from P299 is now only P175! Bought it and enjoyed it! :)

My replacement copy arrived last Friday, and finally watch the film. :) :) :) Its now Php 299, although its no longer in steelbook. I recommend also to buy a new DVD cases for this. Disc 2 is hard to get out and there's a slight chance Disc 2 will crack. :( :( :(
PQ is good, but I spotted some compression artifacts which aren't distracting.
AQ is great. The sound mix will make your neighbors wake up.
All in all, I recommend this Extended Collector's Edition DVD instead of the Original Theatrical Version DVD.

This is must be the problem why my copy of Avatar: Extended Edition Disc 2 sometimes won't play.
