Title: Polk Audio Speakers
Post by: Courage on Apr 30, 2003 at 10:26 AM
Guys what can u say about this speaker?

I auditioned the Polk Audio RTi28 Book Shelf yesterday at Spectra being driven by HK 2550. I dont know kung bulok ako sa pandinig pero ang ganda nya tumunog also  with Polk Audio PSW350 50 watts continous average sub ang ganda rin, although 50 watts lang pero ang lakas at ang ganda nang bass sa music at movies, mas nagustuhan ko kesa sa JBL na sub (PB10 ata yun).

Also the build is very good, solid na solid yung kahoy nung Polk Audio compared to Mission and Wharfs..

Any way i just need ur opinions on these speakers, planning on upgrading my speakers eh.

Courage papm naman prices ng polk speakers na nakita mo sa spectra :) anyway polks sound good, they also give the best bang for buck and they use real wood, soundwise I find the midrange smooth, they match well sa hk, haven't heard them through a nad though. The bookshelf you listened too is well reviewed sa stereophile if i'm not mistaken.

Bro right combination siguro yung HK at POLK....Kaya nga masyado mahalaga yung matching ng speakers at Receiver....maybe its just 2550 hk yun pero baka talo nya yung other high end receivers na di matched sa proper speakers

I have a cousin in California who can very well afford top end audio gear (he drives around in a Porche 911).  He swears by these speakers for home theater use.

Polks are not so well known outside the US but within the US, they've made a name for themselves in the realm of HT if not audio.

noong 1989 binili ko Polk Audio Monitor 5B kasi best bang for bucks nga ... hanggang ngayon gamit ko pa pero nasa 5.1 setup na ... what impressed me most with these speakers is bass performance, though not lacking mids and highs, considering it is only a two-way system but with a passive radiator so that for a long time, i never considered buying a subwoofer ... my conclusion is polk audio knows what they are doing, much the same way as those high-end brands

Post by: greatbop on May 01, 2003 at 01:55 AM
well. one reason why polk has a name for itself sa us is because of their distribution network. Best Buy is their distributor in the US. which means people see the name "polk" advertised alot.

pero as far as performance... for the same price, you can get better bargains elsewhere. Keep in mind na ang kalaban ng Polk sa price range nya are Energy, PSBs, Mirage (sa price range!), Paradigm, NHT, and now Athena Technology pa.

And audio enthusiast will more likely to go to a mid end dealer to get their stuff rather than to go to Best Buy and will have to pay the sticker price.

Polks new LSi line are getting nice reviews, though. And only hihi shops carry them.

thre is a difference from 'being able to afford higer end products' to 'willing to pay for them.'

doesn't matter if you're the richest guy in the world. if your perception about audio products is that they're not worth paying good money for, you're not gonna buy them.

Just recently bought a pair of R15's(at Php7,200) from Spectra. They're now hooked up to my RX-V430 as fronts.

What can i say? They're still in the break-in stage, but... WOW! Clean, balanced highs and mids... You'll need a sub though for the lows if you're gonna use them as fronts.

Definitely a good buy for me.  ;D

Now all i need is a camera(and lots of guts!) to post my humble set-up...

I own a pair of polk RT15i and it souns great for small listening area if you use it for front, Mas maganda naman pag ginamit as surround speakers. If you use it as a front, medyo bitin sa bass you need to couple it with a sub for music. overall good quality and made of real wood finish

you can audition these speakers at the Cardinal Audio in Greenhills ....

Why are Polk Audio speakers, despite having great products, not popular among Pinoy DVD members? Is it because:

a.) it doesn't suit your taste on sound/looks?
b.) it doesn't fit your budget?
c.) owners were not members of this forum?
d.) owners don't want to flaunt their gears?
e.) many haven't heard of the brand?
f.) many haven't audition of the products yet?
g.) too few dealers carry this brand?
h.) its products sucks?
i.) others (specify)

Mine will be letter b - it's way out of my budget  :P , but I've heard some Polk speakers and they're truly impressive and aesthetically fits my taste.

Peace! :) :) :)

Haven't heard the Polk subs but based on the technical specs, their -3db point is at 32hz for the 404.  Not eactly deep enough when compared to a CHT12 or an ASW600 whose -3db points are in the 25hz- 26hz range - a good 6-7hz deeper for about the same price range.  Just an observation.

Good point sir av-phile1 on your observations basing from the specs. Hindi kaya more musically inclined ang Polk subs than the others?

According to the Polk website:
"Polk loudspeakers are designed first and foremost to be natural and accurate when reproducing all kinds of material. The materials and technologies used in Polk loudspeakers allow them to faithfully reproduce only the sounds or tones that they are asked to reproduce. They faithfully and accurately reproduce the original recordings. Polk loudspeakers are truly able to meet the demands of home theater as well as music."

I don't know if this claim is true, but based from hearing some of the polk speakers, they are really good.

Polk Audio PSW350 50 watts continous average sub ang ganda rin, although 50 watts lang pero ang lakas at ang ganda nang bass sa music at movies, mas nagustuhan ko kesa sa JBL na sub (PB10 ata yun).

Correction please! I own a Polk Audio PSW350 Subwoofer, its built in amplifier is rated 100-watts Continuous into 4 ohms @ 0.05% THD. Dynamic power is rated 260 watts. That's why sabi mo malakas ang tunog. It's a good subwoofer for music and home theater application. It was reviewed in the November or December 2000 Sound and Vision Magazine I think, and was rated among best from the group of subwoofers tested with price range below $500 USD.

I've been using it since year 2001 and I was satisfied with the performance. All you need is proper tuning or blending with your existing speakers and electronics. I also have 2 pairs of Polk Monitor M3 (series I & II).  I've been using it before as my front speakers in tandem with the PSW350 but converted it to back surround and rear surround speakers when I got a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 for the front or stereo channels only.  Polk are fine sounding speakers but the sound stage produce by the wharf though they have same size driver are much wider and natural. Its my own opinion ha? It depends on your hearing and perception. Just try to audition other brands. Just bear in mind that costlier system doesn't always sound better than that of the cheaper one's. Trust your EARS!

^^^ bro, for me, yamaha avr's + polk speakers are a near perfect match.

i own a PSW404 sub and they are powerful and deep enough. as for the speakers, i believe there are people who like polk for home audio, not as much as wharfdale maybe, but then again, polks are not in the same price point.  ;D

yep Yamahas are a great match. The Onkyos, Denons, Marantz, etc. shouldn't disappoint ya either.

Best I guess is to try them out in May and if they have all the features you want/need, let the final judge be your ears :)

(only with the LSi series, I would strongly recommend a good amp to maximize its potential)

interesting post i came across on one of the forums talking about the LSi speakers:

"LSI's are deceptively good sounding speakers and you need to spend some quality time with some quality gear to realize how good they really are. They can have some set-up issues in that placement to get the best sound can be tricky, but no trickier than say a pair of SDA's. The Vifa tweeter rules and is so smooth and effortless it seems like it has less accuracy than other speakers, but after through listening one realizes it's the other tweeters that are less accurate even if they play louder and are more strident, etc. The tweeter also has the uncanny ability to lessen some of the harshness, etc. of marginal recordings."

I've heard their car audio equivalents (the Polk SR range) but I haven't had a chance to hear the LSis yet. (That'll ofcourse all change in a few weeks :))

Hi Everybody, :D

Found an old polk audio centre speaker from the garage. The copper link in the speaker post at the back was lost and I don't want to bi-wire the speaker. I improvise a substitute copper link of the "Lows & Highs" using copper speaker wire. My question is, did i do the right thing in substituting the lost copper link? (see image below... TIA

anybody heard the TSi400 in action?

If the LSi Series is available, this is the best of the latest Polk.  LSi7, LSi9 (bookshelves) LSi15. and LSi25, their center and the FX/surround.  All of them uses the best Vifa tweeter that are usually found on expensive speakers. Other than that, go Vintage if you can find it usually the SDA Series.  I have numerous Polks and few Klipsch's and all are vintage except the LSi9. Although LSi9 is is bookshelf, you will be surprised for it is power hungry. This speaker is 4ohms and should be driven by high current amplifiers and should go to hours of break-in period to really appreciate the sound.  I have mine driven by Outlaw RR2150 because this is one of the amps that is like built and a good match for LSi9. Be careful not to drive it with 8ohm amp or you amp gets fried.  I stick with Polk audio since my first purchase (1988) of the Polk RT12 never failed to impress me. I have only one set of Klipsch Towers (1995) as a test to compare with my Polk but Klipsch did not impress me that much.

My Polks:
1 Pair of LSi9 Bookshelves
2 Pairs of SDA-CRS
1 Pair Monitor 4
1 Pair Monitor 10
1 Pair SDA 1C Studio Floorstander
1 Pair of RTA12
1 Pair of FX surrounds

My non-Polks are Klipsch, Haflers, Velodynes. So, if you go Polk, get the LSi Series since the rest I mentioned are vintages and are most sought-after models mostly available on eBay and they are not that cheap--and so are the LSi's.  I have driven these Polks with several amps (Bryston, Outlaw, Onkyo, Acurus, Yamaha MX-1s, numerous Haflers, Phase Linear, Adcoms, and Nakamichi's) and never thought of switching to another brand of speaker. Besides, Polk has an excellent customer support for all their products, old or new.

Wow i almost forgot that i started a thread for Polk Audio like 7 years ago. Going back patay na patay talaga ako sa RTi28 that i auditioned at Spectra... I was really itching to upgrade my wharfs before but the upgrade never happened until this year.. wala lang.. kakatuwa lang he he he

Bro I think it's unsafe using just double sided tape. I've been using the OWM3 as my back surrounds and in my opinion hindi ito kaya ng double sided tape lang. Madali lang naman cya imount coz may kasamang template to properly position the screws...

it seems that wireless subs are in...paradigm PDR-W100, definitive technology supercube 4000 and supercube 6000. polk audio have their own, DSW PRO SERIES.. did anyone tried to audition this wireless subs? are they more better compared to the one with cables? some will say cables are better compared with wireles subs, if so what are the basis for this just incase. for me, i dont think they will create something that would be a failure in return. extensive research were done before they introduced it to the public.

12 and 10 inche subs

Directed Electronics own both Polk Audio and Definitive Tech, afaik. This is why they sometimes share technologies.

As for wireless subs (and wireless speakers), they work for the far majority of homes, but can sometimes get flaky connections in noisy/wireless-congested environments (like condos and commercial buildings) that cause dropouts, range problems and/or sync issues.
Title: Re: Polk Audio Speakers
Post by: lncc63 on Nov 30, 2011 at 04:46 AM
In terms of SQ, I choose the Polk Audio DSW660 from a selection of subs costing P30k or less.   It was actually the most expensive but the difference was more than justified IMHO.

I thought of buying the wireless module but in the end decided against it though mostly because the cost did not justify the convenience.

Hi guys, Up ko lang ito. Im just into movies, not audio. Ok ba to upgrade to lsim 703 bookshelves and lsim center, 704 ata, basta yun mas cheaper model. I have denon 2400.

Presently, i have paradigm mini monitors.  Bedroom setup only.

Or should i just stick with my setup because bedroom setup lang naman.? Will it make a lot of difference? I just have a small room and no acoustics panel on walls anyway.

Thanks

bet that your movie experience will get better, sir...

if I'd go Polk, only for LSi or RTi series… won't get anything Polk lower than them =))

Hi,

Have completed my 5.1 setup early this year in my room with Polk S15s as front speakers and S10s as surround.  For the center speakers though, I opted for the CS ia4 instead of the signature series when I auditioned it.   Mas angat iyung vocals compared to the center speaker signature series.  I am thinking of upgrading my front speakers in the near future with either the S20 or the Rtia3 and use my current S15s as surround.  I've auditioned both and I like the Rtia3 overall.  Though, the S20 has more bass which is more apt when watching movies.  Given that it's an older model, is it still advisable to own one of these rather than the more recent S20s?   Appreciate any inputs!.   Thanks!

For my sub, I use a Klipsch 10" one.

i used RTI A3 and CSIA6 before. good for movies basta warm sounding ung paired na Receiver. medyo bright kasi polk. but this setup is good paired with dual SVS Sub. hihihi

Hi Raider,

Newbie pa lang ako sa Home Theater and this is my first setup for my room.  Hopefully, I can upgrade in the future but the Klipsch 10" so far works for me :)  The SVS is double the price of this I believe.

My dilemma is do I go with the Rtia setup ( which is an older model ) or go with the signature series which is more recent.  Right now, I have a mixed setup since I have the Csia 4 center speakers which I like over the s30 (center speaker for the signature series).

speakers dont detoriate much as time goes by. just the physical wear and tear. sound wise ayos kahti luma na.
i would prefer you go the RTIA route. just my two cents

I pushed through with my plan and purchased a pair of rti a3s as my front for my room.   Just wanted to ask for inputs ng amp which I intend to add in the future.   I heard the Crown amp xli series is ok daw to pair with polk audio and isn't that expensive?  Any other inputs regarding this?  TIA!

So I recently did a home audition of Klipsch RP600M and Polk Audio Reserve R200. In the stereo shop at Watts HiFi at MCS, the Klipsch "seemed" to be the more impressive speaker due to the thundering bass. At home while the bass was still mightily impressive, the mids and highs were not up to par with my current B&W 606 S2 speakers. Though this must be the "warmest" sounding Klipsch speaker that I have heard.

So on to the Polk R200 speakers. The bass was a close match with my B&W speakers though the R200 was just a bit stronger and sounded tight and well defined throughout the bass frequencies. The mids and highs were also better in the R200 as they sounded more neutral and more sweet and refined than the 606 S2. Those ring radiator tweeters sure sound good! I've decided to purchase these Polk R200 speakers as the sound is too good to let go!  ;D
