+1000000
for movies 42X20 will rip apart the 37inch :-)
-
thanks for the replies guys...what's more versatile though?
-
Samsung can play mkv, avi, etc. even if the file is DTS.
But bigger is still better.

Bigger the better...
My wife and i just purchased a 42 inch LCD, then she saw a 50 Incher plasma.. When watching movie at home she said... she wanted a bigger TV after seeing the 50 incher ha ha ha
I told her next year na ulit ha ha ha
-
I guess bigger is better...any disadvantages though to the Panny 42?
Been checking the thread for the Panny and there's nothing too bad that's been said about it.
The Panny is actually my 1st choice...but just because I can't find a decent review for the Samsung...

hehe. ako din nung una kala ko malaki na yung 42. after a few days parang anliit pala.
TIP: once you've already purchased a TV huwag na masyadong gagawi sa mga av stores uli :-) kung hindi malulungkot lang kayo

It is true. What you do not know will not hurt you. And once tasted, always wanted...

42 din boto ko.
pag bumili ka ng 42 at naliitan ka ulit. projector na dapat. hehe

I have a Pana TH-L42U20
So far it's great.. cant stop watching movies and playing PS3.
Disadvantage
- Wala masyadong features.. Like playing movies by connecting HDD directly and PIP...
But if you dont need those features panalo ang pana IQ wise.
But this is just me.
-
+1 sa 42", if me chance ako magupgrade or bumili ulit ng tv id settle for the bigger screen
-
size does matter!
for movies, PLASMA for me!!!!!
after sales support of Samsung, sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( just read the numerous complaints by our fellow PDVD members, including mine).

Samsung C550
+FULL HD panel very crisp for 1080p native games and movies with digital effects
+Very good input and pixel response time (Little to no ghosting)
-Overly bright panel that washes out/pale out colors
-Mediocre cable TV performance
Panasonic X20
+720p panel that is even better than most FULLHD LCDs when it comes to movies
+Very good and accurate earthly colors
+Very good cable TV performance
-Green ghosting/Phosphor lag during FPS games and movies with high contrast areas
-Mild image retention after games and/or letterbox movie watching
-Reflective screen
You choose ;)

Thanks broCarlo...very insightful reply. Just what I was looking for. ;)

No problem buddy!
Hope you're not as torn as you used to be.

Right? Now I'm confused... :D

Another plus factor of the X20 is that it's better for DVD use. ;)

yey!... will vote for panny pa sana eh... :))
-
do you still need to "burn in" the panny 42x20?
i'm in the market right now for a new tv eh. mostly for watching tv series and movie thru NMT. i think i'll go with panny na rin.
magkano ba s'ya ngayon if 6 and 12 months?

Thanks again broCarlo...DVD lang ba? Howbout Blu? ;D

Blu is a very subjective matter for me, there are times I prefer LCD especially, if I'd be watching movies with a lot of digital effects. The brilliance of LCD gives an added punch with these kinds of movies. However, as a general rule of thumb, plasma is still the better choice for over-all movie watching!
-

Thanks again for the replies guys ;D

haha..... just reserve and bought Samsung LA37C550... hope my choice it right, not into big screen naman kasi liit lang room namin.

Samsung C550 is not a bad TV, it does have it's strengths like being a solid performer for games and blu-ray movies with much digital effects!
The C550 is not the wrong choice if it suits your needs.
Enjoy!

pahabol lang. how about 42x20 vs pj350? ang slim kasi ng pj350 and very tiny borders.
-
A lot of 42X20 fans are gonna kill me right now but I've ultimately decided in getting a Samsung 37 or 40 C550...or C530...whatever's available that is.
Decision was based on versatility of function since I have future plans of using the TV to play mkv files.
Thanks to all who've given advise here especially sirCarlo...
Now, I'm just looking for availability of stocks and a great price to boot. ;D
One question though...what's the difference, if any, between the C530 & C550 models?
-

no problem on that... at the end of the day, it is YOU who decides what to buy...
good luck sir...

But the X20 will blast an LCD to oblivion in terms of mkv playback. ;)

USB WLAN Support for All Share...other than that, I can't see any difference... :)

Sir, Baka what he meant is he'll be playing mkv files directly on the TV. I agree though that the X20 is better as far as mkv playback is concerned. I both have a plasma(2008 model) and a LCD(2010 model) and for future purchases I don't think I'll be buying LCD tv any time soon. Its just me though.
-
Nah, they won't kill you, they'll (x20 fans) just visit your house at around midnight. Bash your head with that Samsung TV of yours and show you - Your torn splattered head! Via the reflective screen of the X20, in all it's 720p glory! (They could have shown it to you at 1080p but the x20 is better at it's native rez)
;D ;D ;D
Just kidding, if your happy, then we're happy (I know of a good security company, in-case you feel jumpy in the next few days).
Hahahaha (penguin goes back to his cognac)

i just want to ask if these cons are damage to the unit due to gaming or just a temporary thing? if temporary, how bad is it? yung tipong nakakainis ba?
i am planning to buy x20 also because of the price but will be used mainly for gaming (fps) at night, watching tv by day and yet due to the issues above, i am thinking of 42LD640 with a higher price tag. sayang din kasi yung difference if bearable naman yung cons.
thanks.

@vinci
Did a video on the Phosphor lag about a year ago...
Here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm63BEhHWUk
Do note that the camera is making the green trails look worse than it actually is! However, it's there and when you know how to look for it, you'll always see it.
All my plasma units are affected by this "lag", it's not a defect but rather a limitation of the technology.

thanks sir carlo. I'll check it out tonight. no youtube here at the office. :)

C550 has DLNA capability, you need to buy separate dongle for this. Asked a lot of salesman about the difference between C530 and C550 series and no one really knew. Even the people at Sights & Sounds and Listening in Style couldn't answer or were too lazy to answer.

watched the vid last night. seems lcd will suit my gaming habit. thanks for sharing sir Carlo777

I think C550 have motion plus and internet capability. 2 features which you dont probably need.
