Their CD6000 and its various iterations received lots of good reviews so I'd like to demo these. Who distributes Marantz CDP's in the Philippines?

Hyperaudio carries Marantz stuff. I'm not sure if all models are available.
Likewise check out the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb and Heart CD Players. These are Marantz players heavily modded by some crazy guys over at Holland with TUBE OUTPUT STAGES!

Yes I have actually. Am interested in the Ah! Affordable naman except that the UPS shipping adds 200 Hfl. You've been to Europe, what's the equivalent of that in Pesos?

Mukhang good buy yung Marantz CD6000 KI (Ken Ishiwata) Signature CD player. Bested the Rotel RCD-02, Exposure 2010 (which previously beat out the RCD-1070), NAD C541i, and Arcam CD62T and did so quite convincingly per Hi-Fi Choice.
Anybody knows where I can find this thing? And yes Archangel, the basic Marantz CD6000 is the base unit for Heart's top-of-the-line CD6000. The Marantz CD4000 is the base unit not only for the Heart CD4000 but also for the highly acclaimed Ah! Njoe Tjobe 4000.

Just remember that it's your ears that's important, not magazine reviews. Remember that HFC has a strong focus on the mid-fi segment which means not much light anywhere else.

It's the tubes...I'd be much more excited about a tubed CDP than I'd be about a S/S one. I'm not saying S/S CDP's can't sound good. I'm just saying that after an exhaustive audition (even of CDPs that aren't for sale like Hyperion's MF CDT and Boghart's QDS15!), the tubed CDP's have proven themselves over and over again. :)
Another one to consider is Scott Nixon's DAC. Do a search on Audio Asylum for feedback on this inexpensive alternative.

jarius, budget-priced cd players are quite hard to find here in metro manila. so far, the only players i saw within your price range are: yamaha cdx-396, pioneer pd-217, and teac cd-p1250. all of them are single disc players, and costs 8k, more or less.

If you will add 3T, you can get a Slightly used Nakamichi CD changer. Myki is selling his player. You can wait for a good deal on other 2nd hand. I was able to buy an almost brand new Rotel 961 for 12T. How about the suggestion of Onedown if you really want less than 10T.

the specs for the CD-5400 in Marantz Europe and Marantz Asia are different.... the "Asian" version apparently uses inferior parts, the DAC for instance is lower spec TDA1549 rather than the one mentioned above.
maybe the Crystal chip is installed on the OSE version?

Marantz CD 5400
HAS MARANTZ GIVEN UP on two channel audio, as some people have suggested? With no fewer than four CD players in its mainstream Range series, and more in its premium lineup, this doesn't look like a pull-out.
The CD5400 is an entry-level model but looks, feels and sounds anything but, especially with the optional stylish silver finish of the review sample. It has a cool, solid feel that eludes its rivals in this group, and the fascia is much less fuzzy than that of some past Marantz machines. Clutter is kept to a minimum - most of the controls are relegated to the remote handset, and the buttons there are on the front panel have a crisp, positive feel that extends to the action of the disc-loader. Meanwhile, the display is big and clear, showing CD-text info, when available, in legible dot-matrix characters. There's also a headphone output with its own volume control, and both optical and electrical digital outputs alongside the analogue connections.
The player uses a quality transport mechanism to feed a multi-bit delta sigma conversion system from Cirrus Logic. Close attention has been paid to circuit layout, isolation and earthing, while frills include a pitch control - handy for musicians wanting to play along with their favorite discs - and a Quick Replay button to skip back to a favorite section of music.
Features aside, it's the performance of the Marantz that really grabs your attention: it'll have you listening for hours. There's not a hint of the compression or softness one expects at this price - instead, it delivers music in a big-boned dynamic style. It has the kind of control and punch that make everything from the pop of the Pet Shop Boys to large-scale orchestral works sound thrilling, and does a fine job with closed-milked chamber music.
This is a remarkable player for the money, with superb looks, sound and feel, which gives you no clue as to the budget price. Fool your friends into thinking you've spent a lot more.

i'm planning to have a dedicated CD player. i'm choosing between a marantz cd5001 or a cambridge azur 340c. i'm more inclined on the marantz, although i still have to audition both players yet. any of you guys owned this cd players. your review will be highly valued, tnx ;D

Last saturday, I auditioned the Marantz CD5001 cdp & Cambridge Azur 540c in 5th ave, shang. Amp was a Cambridge Audio & speakers were MS.
The 540c really had very forward vocals - very clear & crisp - however it sounded a bit "nasal". While imaging is very good in staying in the middle, soundstage was small. Price 17k.
The Marantz CD5001 is more neutral in vocals. While it also presented clear & crisp deliberation, it also has a wider soundstage. It was more open & more airy than the CA 540c. Price 14k.
Personally, I'd give my nod to the Marantz ;)
Some added features that I enjoyed in the CD5001 was its dot matrix led - that could be shut off, CD texting - awesome feature!, buffered headphone jack with volume control and a CD pitch control! Nowadays, its even hard to find any of these features in other brands - let alone in one player!

I like the cd5001 also because of the cd-text feature not all my cd have covers kasi :) meron na kayang cd 6001 I think it have the mp3 playback feature. will try to visit 5th avenue :)

mga sirs with personal experience auditioning or owning this, ano ba ang comparison nito cd5001 sa rotel 1072? may panama ba or malayo talaga yung rotel? SA series lang ba ng marantz comparable sa rotel 1072?

The Marantz cd5001 is sold for around 14k, while the Rotel rcd06 sells for 27-28k - honestly, I dont believe that the SQ of the rcd06 is double that of the cd5001. Rotel's rcd1072 is sold for more than 30k+
You might like to visit parksquare, mkti. Audition the Rotel cdps in Sound dimension, then go next door to 5th Ave to audition the Marantz cd5001 naman ;)

thanks for the suggestion sir, but the thing is that they will not be hooked up on the same set up kaya mahirap maging level ang audition, unless meron sa mga members na naka try na nito or is this even a valid question or match up?

This may sound like a bold move - but since they're neighbors naman sa parksquare, maybe you can entice either one of them to accompany you in bringing your preferred CDP to the other store to audition? Its worth a shot, eh? ;D
If not, you may bring your own amp & speakers to both places cguro. They say this is the best route ;)
You might find somebody who can possibly describe to you what it sounds to him/her - but I'm sure you would still be dying to hear 'em yourself, diba? Tama po kayo, audition is the key ;)

Right now, yung Marantz CD6002 is not available here in Manila. Not even Avesco who distributes Marantz here - they dont know kung magkakaroon sila neto.
This cdp is available in Europe, wala sa catalog ng Marantz USA - so dunno if they will carry.
While i did find a resource in ebay, Hong Kong - i'm still undecided kung kukunin ko kasi gusto ng seller bank-to-bank transfer, which doesnt have any security. Thats the only way daw that he can ship to me straight here in Manila.
Pwede rin daw paypal if you have an account with paypal - but its a bit more expensive via paypal kasi may fees pa yun.
While my cousin in the states has paypal - the seller will only ship to the one who has the paypal account. So double shipping cost ang babayaran ko :'(
The seller is selling/shipping each unit for $442 + $45 via airparcel/airmail of the post office. Pwede rin daw express mail for $56 ata.

Medyo hassle - so I'm still undecided.

It doesn't mean double the price, eh double din ang improvement in sound quality. As you go up the ladder, small increment na lang and makukuha mo. It is just a matter if you are willing to pay for that last bit of improvement you wanted in your listening experience.
That's true. Small improvements na lang but the price tags get doubled.
The only problem is that I don't see even an iota of improvement the Rotel RCD 06 has over even the older Marantz CD5001, is there? Except maybe a cleaner facade and sleeker form. ;D And just by reading the spec sheets of both, the RCD06 is inferior to the Marantz CDP ;D

I finally tried out the Marantz cdp in my audio setup and it is amazing! Its a tad warmer sounding than my Rotel 1072 but the resolution is present, nonetheless. The Rotel is forward sounding, while the Marantz is a bit behind. Micro & macro details are present as well as dynamics, but I sense it is a bit more on the Rotel 1072.
The CD text of the Marantz is a delight to see as it scrolls from right to left - it does this to every new track.
One of the many great features that the Marantz has is its headphone jack - it is a high grade headphone circuit with a high-speed buffer amplifier. I've read a lot of head-hifi forums having Marantz cdps for this purpose alone. Unfortunately, when I grabbed my Grado SR80 cans - naka mini-jack sya & I cant find the adaptor anywhere - bwiset Oh well, will buy one later nalang.
Meron din syang pitch control - but I havent tried it as I was gauging its SQ.
INMO, I dont think it was fair to judge the Marantz CD6002 with a Rotel flagship 1072 cdp at 3x its price and while there were times that I was hard pressed to find any difference - some audiophile cds proved the Rotel 1072 to be just a tad better.
However, if one is to look for a bnew CDP at 15-20k - I really dont think you can find a better one than the Marantz CD6002. The pitch control, CD text and high grade headphone circuit is hard enough to find in any cdp - much less in one cdp alone. No worries - it reads CD-R/CD-RW; MP3 or WMA.
Will still try the headphones later and change parameters - as my Rotel 1072 does have added acoustic damper-shackels below it.
Nonetheless, the Marantz made me tap my feet & snap my fingers to its beat that made me forget I wasnt listening to my 1072 - so this is definitely a good investment and a great value specially at its price

If you can audition both the 5003 & 6002, then you can choose which player will suit you best. The 5001 has been discontinued by Marantz and have replaced it with the 5003 sporting a new chassis with some added features.
However, some reviews of the 5003 say that it still embodies the innards of the previous 5001.

I still have the pricing info for LBC sea cargo - a jumbo 24"x24"x30" box with no weight limit is just S$100 or roughly Php3.2k. cguro mga 4-5pcs na 6002 kasya sa box.

2) putting orig dynamat dampers atop the transport?
3) upgrading the lampcord power plug into an audio-grade?
if not then u might also consider trying and then let us know how it would compare to the flagship RCD1072 from rotel :)

I did consider changing opamps awhile back......only to find out that the 6002 doesnt use opamps but rather HDAMs ;D

While I do have an audio-grade rack, I also added dampening shackles specifically for my spyder rack and it did prove to be an improvement.
Im really enjoying the 6002 and listening to it more than my Rotel 1072 in the bedroom ;)

i got the review mixed up, its the PM5003 amp that supposedly has aesthetics as its strongest point. cool for Marantz to have HDAMs in its entry-level player now.

hdam na nga ang 5003, although they use same cirrus logic chip, and the 5003 can play mp3 and wma burned on cds already, while the 5001 only cds and burned cds of non-compressed music. but for 50% of the price i would say for starters the 5001 is a heck of a deal. :)

sulit na sulit yan kaso medyo champagne goldish ang kulay.
also checked out kinetic audio (amx) ;D i was looking for tubes on sale. may 4 watter dun driving an aurum cantus f5508 floor stander wow very surprising!

Yes, I read the reviews at whathifi myself and this got kinda stuck in my thinking:
Under the new exterior it's progression rather than revolution, with the CD5003 using the same audio circuit and DAC as the outgoing '5001, but there has been some purposeful tinkering around the edges – and the resulting performance is a similarly sedate evolution of the CD5001 sound.

Logic dictates that newer products of a company should be better than the one it replaced and whether one believes in reviews or not, is purely subjective. However, being that the 5001 is now less than 50% of the current 5003 is certainly not something to dismiss.

7k is a pretty good price para ka lang bumili ng dvd player.

I bought one cd6003 in black colour, my impression was somewhat makalansing/quite thin sounding yet very detailed (especially engaging the Audio EX2). Not as warm as the NAD C542/545 though but at least better sounding than the CA Azur 540/640 cdp IMO. Nice looking too, like their KI Signature / Premium Series.

Yes, that's the main difference between the 5001 and 5003 (aside from the cosmetic looks of course and supoort for MP3 etc).
Another main difference is that 5001 uses the popular Sony KSS-213C transport. The CD5003 uses a Sanyo DV11VF.

Earlier this year, a friend of mine in Singapore bought a Marantz 6002 cdp and shipped it to me through LBC. It was also Macdon who patiently gave me detailed instructions on how to do this through a series of PMs (thanks so much, Macdon!).
All you have to do is to specify to your friend what brand/model and color to buy, and to canvas for the best price from the authorized dealers in Adelphi mall. Kung sa authorized dealer bibilhin, very slight naman siguro ang chance na maloloko siya.
After buying the unit, your friend can simply bring it to LBC, which has a branch in Lucky Plaza, and ship it to you, by means of air or surface shipping. I chose surface, because it was cheaper and I was not in a hurry, anyway. Total cost to me (cost of the unit + LBC shipping) was the equivalent of P15,869.35.
Siyempre, ang downside nito, pag nasira, you will have to claim the warranty from the dealer in Singapore! Despite that, I decided to do this because I did not like the cdps I could have bought here at the time, which were the Azur 640C and the Marantz 5003. Saka confident naman ako sa quality ng Marantz, lalo na pag brand new.

Ang mura nga, even the shipping fee. My friend told me even laptop and lcd, also some of the electronic gadgets daw mura don. ang nakakapagtaka its not a 10% but almost 40% ung offset from our price here in Pinas for example this marantz cdp. Bakit kaya?

I suggest you audition both. While both share the same DAC (Cirrus Logic), the 5003 has a new HDAM (Marantz's proprietary filter/output stage). But the 5001 at half price is very good value. I bought one previously at the half price but sold it because my old cdp (an Arcam Alpha 7SE) had been repaired/upgraded. The 5001 was very good, for its price, I liked it better than the NAD 52x series (the Marantz sounded cleaner and less boomy - its bass just the right level of taughtness, vs. the NAD's very heavy bass) and vs. the Cambridge 340 (its peer comparison in its price class), the Cambridge sounded more detailed but a tad bright for my taste, the Marantz sounded more composed and rounded.

I bought mine last November 2009 @ S$450 :( yet still cheaper though.
Awaiting the release of Marantz CD5004 cdp, an improved version of 6003 I think.

I think the CD5004 is the CD5003's successor. It uses the same DAC, and has very similar features (except for some improvements). The CD6003 also has the USB/iPod interface, which both the 5003 and the 5004 lack.
I would like to hear the CD5004 too, as Marantz CDPs have been improving with every generation. It'd probably present wonderful value in its price class.

Dedicated CDPs normally work better for CDDA playback. Of course, a universal player opens up more possibilities.

Dahil nga bakasyon, umandar ang aking lakas ng loob sa pagkalikot...binuksan, hinipan ng kaunti, punas punas, powered, to my amazed, umandar, nagbasa, play...ayos...tried different cds, ok naman lahat..pinabayaan ko syang naka play, after an hour or so, check it up, error na. Could it be because uminit na? Dinama ko ang dalawang big caps, yung isa may slight na init. May heatsink sa malapit ng caps. Sa palagay ko maayos at malinis ang laser head. Palimigin ko muna and will test again...

Recently acquired a cd5001, unfortunately it doesn't have any remote control.
Where can I find/buy a dedicated rc for my marantz? Also, any Marantz service center here in NCR?
