Looks like J.J. Abrams hasn't really let go of mysteries that take place on islands. Case in point, the upcoming Alcatraz series for FOX, about a group of Alcatraz prison guards and inmates who vanish in the past and reappear in the present, with a group of FBI agents assigned to track them and figure out the truth.
Confirmed cast members of Alcatraz include Sam Neill, Jorge Garcia, Sarah Jones, Santiago Cabrera, Jonny Coyne, and Jason Butler Harner. Abrams will be joined on this project by former Lost co-workers, Elizabeth Sarnoff and Bryan Burk, who will be executive producers. Sarnoff is also credited as Alcatraz's lead writer. Abrams' production outfit Bad Robot will once again helm main production duties, in association with Warner Bros.
Alcatraz's pilot is currently being filmed; expect a Fall airdate to be announced soon.
It would be cool if the FBI agents involved here would crossover to Fringe, heh ;D

FOX has released a trailer, promo photos, and a very lengthy synopsis for Alcatraz:
From executive producer J.J. Abrams (Fringe, Lost, Star Trek and the upcoming Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Super 8) and writer and executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost, Deadwood) comes Alcatraz, the chilling new thriller centered on America's most infamous prison and one-time home to the nation's most notorious murderers, rapists, kidnappers, thieves and arsonists.
When San Francisco Police Department DET. REBECCA MADSEN (Sarah Jones, Sons of Anarchy) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a shocking suspect: JACK SYLVANE (guest star Jeffrey Pierce, The Nine), a former Alcatraz inmate who died decades ago. Given her family history--both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, RAY ARCHER (Robert Forster, Jackie Brown), were guards at the prison--Madsen's interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent EMERSON HAUSER (Sam Neill, Jurassic Park) tries to impede her investigation, she's doggedly committed.
Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast, DR. DIEGO "DOC" SOTO (Jorge Garcia, Lost), to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. The twosome discovers that Sylvane is not only alive, but he's loose on the streets of San Francisco, leaving bodies in his wake. And strangely, he hasn't aged a day since he was in Alcatraz, when the prison was ruled by the iron-fisted WARDEN EDWIN JAMES (Jonny Coyne, Undercovers) and the merciless ASSOCIATE WARDEN E.B. TILLER (Jason Butler Harner, The Changeling).
Madsen and Soto reluctantly team with Agent Hauser and his technician, LUCY BANERJEE (Parminder Nagra, ER), to stop Sylvane's vengeful killing spree. By delving into Alcatraz history, government cover-ups and Rebecca's own heritage, the team will ultimately discover that Sylvane is only a small part of a much larger, more sinister present-day threat. For while he may be the first, it quickly becomes clear that Sylvane won't be the last prisoner to reappear from Alcatraz.
Through the course of the investigation, Madsen and Soto will learn that Agent Hauser has known about the prison's secret history and has been awaiting the prisoners' return. Soto will witness his life's work--the history of Alcatraz--come alive. Madsen will be forced to keep her supportive San Francisco cop fiancé, JIMMY DICKENS (Santiago Cabrera, Heroes), at arm's length from the highly classified assignment as she sees everything she thought she knew about her family's past shattered, all while fighting to keep the country safe from history's most dangerous criminals.

if it's from JJ Abrams, i'm skipping it.
i expect no answers to the mysteries, just Abrams' knowledge that the average viewer has the attention span of a _________.

January 16, 2012 is the set date for the Alcatraz premiere, as confirmed by Fox.

J.J Abrams and another island. The first episode of Lost was also very good and quite interesting. Look what happened to that show ::)
-
The lead actress looks like a young Jodie Foster to me..
-
ill watch the pilot tonight
-
J. J. Abrams' Alcatraz seems more like the next FlashForward, not the next Lost.
Agree?
-
the lead got a pretty nice rack. ;D
-
the bald guy looks like dr evil ;D
-
J. J. Abrams' Alcatraz seems more like the next FlashForward, not the next Lost.
Agree?
Disagree. Flashforward was about people seeing their futures and acting accordingly. This one has flashbacks which do not affect anything except add to the narrative.
I'm already predicting a time travel plot. Probably one of the characters in the present day will be transported to the 1960s.
Another thing... a big indicator of whether or not this series becomes as disappointing as Lost was... if, by the end of the first and second seasons there are more questions with absolutely no answers for anything, it's following the Lost "formula". That's the time to jump ship -- or abandon the island ;D
the lead got a pretty nice rack. ;D
Uh-huh ;D

Agree?
Nope. The series plays out more like a sidestory of Fringe or The X-Files, but with a different set of characters.

So this is going to be like 1 character recovered per episode, and there are like 63 missing inmates plus additional xx guards to be found. At 20 eps per season, this will take more than 4 years.
Anyhow, the main lead is getting cuter every episode (hopefully she would never wear any jacket or blazer at all to expose her full figures - hehehe) while her partner is looking exceptionally wider - but teddy bear cute too.
-
di ba more than 200 ung prisoners?
-
^ Yeah, I think 300+ pa ata. And around 40 guards.
They're called the "63s" because they all disappeared in 1963.

how bout plunging neckline? ;D
-
the 63s remind me of the 4400s :)
-
It's not going anywhere in terms of continuity. Parang show na one crime per week.
Good thing the weather seems to be getting warm as the show progresses, hence, her clothes are getting lighter and her form is getting a little bit more visible.
-
sabi nga ng wife ko parang nancy drew daw eh hehe.
-
The show is starting to get boring for me. :( Plot does not "thicken", just new characters per episode.

That was also my apprehension before but I realized some of the ff:
- Why are they asking the prisoners on what happened if both the Alcatraz doctors are alive as well.
- Why haven't they discovered the hidden door (with 3 locks) if it's around The Rock
- Jack Sylvane woke up in Alcatraz, why haven't they caught what brought him there
These are not insults but items that keep me thinking of how they would explain along the series...
-
The episode featuring The Ames Brothers was quite good, and we finally get a glimpse behind that locked door. Hope they don't lengthen the lingering mystery of whether the Warden is still alive or not.
-
Just watched the final 2 episodes...dammit, this show better be renewed.
The car chase in the final episode is a homage to the famous car chase in the classic Steve McQueen film, Bullitt...look for the green Volkswagen Beetle that appears several times. ;D
-
^ i notice that too... green volks beetle.
also notice the sports bra of Becca ;D
-
Parang masyadong mataas ang pag-apply ng defribillator. In most movies, I would see the pads applied sa chest area.
In her case, halos sa shoulder na. Wala tuloy makitang cleavage. Hehehe. At least they showed her minus those jackets and coats.

Dammit. And as usual with the creators of these shows, we're left with still so many questions.
