Title: f1 2011
Post by: Waxx on Mar 21, 2011 at 04:44 PM
f1 fans out there.. sino sa tingin nyo ang mag dodominate this 2011?

sayang dapat nag umpisa na ang season but due to bahrain's internal problem, australia would be the season opener this march 27!

redbull i think would still dominate.. but im hoping for mercedes gp this year to show its true colors..

lets see if its really the car or the driver.

your thoughts?

Initial testing indicates that Ferrari and Red Bull are on it again,
somehow Mercedes has shown some improvement,
McLaren is lagging behind, I used to be a Renault fan,
but with the combination of the Prancing Horse and Fernando Alonso,
I am with Ferrari now,...

Title: Re: f1 2011
Post by: mandyb on Apr 15, 2011 at 12:09 PM
as i know the teams try different combinations and solutions, its really hard to tell practice times. They give it their all i would say to make a more accurate feedback for the team. but engines could be tuned down and fuel levels could be high, it really all depends on the teams direction for the practice session.

one thing though since last season is that seb never runs his engine on maximum on any given practice as his chassis is arguably the best engineered at the moment

redbull is blazingly fast.. thanks to adrian newey!

dati bilib ako kay ross brawn, pero parang napagiwanan na ni adrian newey sa technical specs..

although sabi nila mercedes GP has the best DRS daw.

i guess having full support/budget from redbull helps!  sky's the langit!

bro waxx, agree with you here

sanay si ross sa sky the langit for a decade with ferrari, then na challenge sya sa honda now mercedes. With the budget cap in place adrian is the man with the momentum.

i hope they continue to be inspired so they wont walk away from the sport, these guys are the best there is now..
Title: Re: f1 2011
Post by: Pillow on Apr 15, 2011 at 11:54 PM
Mercedes has the best DRS giving them up to 18km/h advantage over RBR's 8km/h. But the trade off would be less downforce in cornering, which is why they still appear to be slower than RBR and MacLaren.

Nico and Micheal are 5th and 6th in second free practice. Hopefully we can see consistency in the last practice, quali and actual race.

Awesome race with plenty of overtaking action! Congrats to Lewis for winning the Chinese GP, with an almost close call to starting from the pits. Bad start from Vettel but still able to clinch second. Great race for Webber, coming from P18 to a podium 3rd. There is really no denying RBR's race pace even without KERS.

Fantastic driving by Hamilton and Webber

Pirelli's quickly degrading tires are making it very exciting this year.
Title: Re: f1 2011
Post by: Waxx on Apr 18, 2011 at 10:01 PM
i guess iba ang practice suits ng mclaren sa official racing suits..

china gp is so exciting, didnt know it was this much exciting sa tv, watched the china gp last year kasi sa shanghai, all i saw were cars passing by..

mas sulit sa tv, mas exciting.

weber for me was the best driver in this race. from 18th to 3rd place!  if there were 4 more laps, he wouldve ended 1st.

hmmm mas ok ata ang wag ka magcompete sa qualifying to have fresher tires in the race mismo. by not being able to qualify in q2 and q3 weber was able to preserve his option tires! thats an additional 8-10 laps of speed rin combined!

one thing i also noticed its better to be tailgaiting at second place the whole race, then at the last lap of the race, use DRS sa DRS zone, slipstream and slingshot to take first place and get the checkered flag in 1st position! since bawal ata mag DRS ka pag walang car sa unahan mo diba? or mali ako?

if this is the case, they should review DRS rules.. i say, walang zone zone, just use DRS at your own discretion, ala KERS, pasensyahan kung you lose control!

did anybody see fernando alonso using DRS sa no DRS zone? why didnt he get penalized by race stewards?

and jensson button pitting in the redbull pit, thats hilarious! mas nakakatawa pa siguro kung pinalitan ng gulong ng redbull, ano kaya penalties nun? i guess the redbull pit crew was going "wtf is wrong with this guy??"   kulang nalang lagyan pa ng isang horn switch ang f1 steering wheel sobrang dami ng pindutan!

cant wait for turkey in 3 weeks. dun nag wheel to wheel ang dalawang redbulls last year.. exciting!
Title: Re: f1 2011
Post by: mandyb on Apr 19, 2011 at 12:16 AM
yeah, pretty exciting race.

Great drive by mark indeed, 3 stopper compared to sebastian 2, tama ba??

good experiment by red bull in my opinion lang, or did they compromise for sebastians race position after the bad start, it could have gone either way for red bull... the problem with the different strategy opened up tons of data and analysis by other teams.

it may only be a matter of time before the teams would master how to best make a strategy for the race with tires..i hope pirelli wont give a pattern of some sort. Nevertheless Red Bull is just awesome, 'not bad for an energy drink team' - Mark Webber

i think DRS varies from circuit to circuit, as in the last race they put it in the easiest place to overtake which was also the longest part of the circuit.
i think DRS can only be activated by a trigger when you are in the zone.

haha, jenson the joker...
did you notice how focussed some mechanics where? good thing he was waved through, because if he stopped, those wheel guns would have been engaged.. big lapse on jenson there that could have caused them both race positions.

WTF is wrong with michael??? WOW

Ferrari is also quite lost.

Did anyone notice the star sports broadcast, the background is much loader than the commentators? I find the commentators of BBC way better plus HD broadcast.

I hate Pirelli tires! Drivers and Crews are always watching their tires, It robs the competiveness of the race.

^Contrary to what you believe, it actually gives the action that we are seeing these past 3 races. Or would you rather have a parade similar to last year's Bahrain race?
Title: Re: f1 2011
Post by: Clondalkin on Apr 19, 2011 at 07:27 AM
Schumacher's main rival this year is KOBAYASHI.    ;D ;D ;D  If his Mercedes teammate can consistently manage to finish higher than him, that proves Schu-chan is already too ji-chan to compete.

BBC's broadcast is absolutely awesome.  Lots of commentaries, behind the scenes, and pit interviews before and after the race - not to mention eyepopping 1080p high def.

Alonso was too far back hence, the other teams didn't bother to complain about the DRS controversy.

Those Pirelli tires really look like black cheese.

in the next few races, we should see the ability of the chasing teams to get their act right and at the same time the leading teams maintain their advantages.

btw, di resta is blowing sutil away consistently since the first race. this talent should be taken by another team sooner than later. Sutil has to step up as nico hulkenberg is already in the team as reserve driver who is quite talented too

i would believe so, but the thing is their kers system is only for the start of the race since they opted for less batteries and weight saving (easily 70kg worth).... i may be wrong but thats how i heard it. of course the system also can be attached or not depending on team decision every race.

another red bull win last weekend in Barcelona, wasnt a walk in the park as usual but timing of the execution of pit strategy for vettel... interesting when alonso got the lead in the early stages.

Vettel has got everything going his way indeed.

Barely a lap or two before Mclaren's predicted "cliff" of Vettel's overused tires, mayhem all over the track causing the safety car to come out, and eventually a safety car restart - that allowed Red Bull to change with fresh tires.   I could almost feel the frustration in Alonso's face.  I felt we were all robbed with what could have been an extremely exciting and hard-fought finish.

But Vettel in a well-tuned Red Bull is looking more and more unbeatable indeed.

bilib ako kay seb... but here in monaco, it was sheer luck that place him in pole, and it was sheer luck that also enabled him to win 1st.

parang written in the stars..

gutsy 1 pit strategy by redbull. kung walang safety car at the end, who knows? would he be able to defend?

i still think when the red flag was waved, they shouldnt be allowed to change tires.  naging iba ang outcome e... sayang... ganda ng final 10 laps e..

oh well.. kitang kita sa face ni alonzo ang frustration.. di man lang maka ngiti... buti pa si button..

... buti pa si button..

And he got to kiss the two hot chicks on the podium with his sweaty (and probably smelly) face.

I was already imagining a scenario similar to Raikkonen' blown-up tire on the very last lap while leading in a fast track in Europe in 2005 that gave Alonso the victory.  Well it probably would not have been that disastrous for Vettel but yeah, who knows what could have happened with Button and Alonso already on their final wait for Vettel's forced slow down on a very tight track.

On a side note, the trio of David Coulthard, Eddie Jordan and that tall young lad are making a great show and analyses in this year's BBC broadcast - before, during and after the race.

It was a pretty exciting race until the red flag

SV has it all really this season so far, not only can he drive super worn tires ( because of a team error on pit stops ) he gets a windfall in a free pit stop during the red flag.

Normally, a red flag doesnt allow any changes (mechanic can not literally touch the car).

Its really weird as the cars arent allowed to be touched from the end of Q3 all the way to the checkered flag on sunday.

But i believe this is going to be one of the most exciting Monaco GP in years, Lewis driving like he owns the track, SV first win, lots of other overtaking attempts.

BBC-one, much more professional than star sports, imo. Also while watching replay, they had  more car radio talk broadcast also

Montreal Qualifying will start in a few minutes...

From yesterday and todays practice top 3 drivers

Practice 1
Rosberg, alonso, schumacher

Practice 2
Alonso, Vettel, Massa

Practice 3
Vettel, alonso, rosberg

Looks like vettel will take pole again and interesting to see who will stack up behind him. I think Mclaren should be pretty strong as they didnt show pace in practice(holding back a bit), although alonso's pace looks good as well

As usual Vettel on pole

Surprisingly Alonso and Massa, 2nd and 3rd.

Mclaren says they have a rain set up... they usually dont talk about their set up...

Hoping the race later is exciting.

Missed this race.

From Formula1.com

Race - Button takes last-gasp win in Canadian epic12 Jun 2011

Jenson Button made sensational amends to McLaren, having inadvertently taken team mate Lewis Hamilton out of a chaotic Canadian Grand Prix on the eighth lap on Sunday, by snatching victory from Sebastian Vettel halfway round the final lap.

The disjointed race began behind the safety car due to heavy rain, started to dry, then got much worse as the rain returned and refused to abate...»

Looks like this was a close one.  Mukhang naisahan si Vettel :D

Vettel lost it by himself with 5 corners to go on the last lap

very exciting race! must watch... too many incidents investigated by the stewards.

Yeah, MSC has become my sentimental favorite although I never really liked him during his prime.  Canada was the most exciting and unpredictable race so far this season and it had all the drama I was looking for, especially with Button winning in the final lap despite having to pit 6 times and nearly gettting retired by teammate Hamilton early on in the race. The only thing that didnt happen was MSC getting on the podium with his vastly inferior car - he was absolutely awesome on the tight turns but his machine simply couldn't match up on straight high-speed portions - kung hindi sana tumigil ang ulan until the end, malamang sa kangkungan inabot si Webber with his erratic control..hahaha

On the other hand, the real rain-man Senna managed to win in Monaco under similar very wet conditions while driving a vastly inferior car (compared to the highly advanced-tech Williams car then), and as mentioned in that documentary, that was probably Senna's greatest driving year.

may it rain this weekend (but not to the extent of having the race red flagged)..

there was a clip at the documentary's end (senna) when they showed senna parking his f1 to help a fellow driver.. i honestly didnt like senna before the movie, but the movie slowly changed my perception of him.. what he did (to help the driver) sold me... (altho that was stupid of him and very unsafe to do that)..

doing some googling.. it was 92 belgium during the qualifying when he did that...

here's a video for that incident.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOGiguIUyZ4

senna for me was a bipolar driver.. when he sees a challenge, he races and sacrifices safety of not only him but other drivers, but when he sees a tragedy, his compassion awakens, eating out the devil of competitiveness in him... crazy man behind the wheel.. but he was full of charisma.

msc may be the greatest there is (91 wins!).. but now i believe senna is the gutsiest of them all... (until i watch another docu featuring f1 driver)..

the closest person to senna that i could see right now could be vettel...

In terms of driving, I'd say Hamilton is the closest among the current gen of elite F1 drivers.  Vettel seems too nice and boring so far - and the German National Anthem is tooo long.  hehe

The rivalry between Senna and Prost was a classic and it still amazes me that Senna was as driven by the thought of beating Prost as winning every race - that he missed Prost terribly when he retired and somehow lost motivation.

i stand corrected then..  ;D

nakakainis kasi kay hamilton, puro crash e.. and sometimes parang i feel na he quits.. di tulad ni senna.. laban ng laban..

i cant help feel that senna's calling is to just beat Prost... naging mag kampi sila, pero sige laban parin.. thats why it came to my mind that senna's closest is vettel, following incident between redbull last year at turkey gp. nung side by side sila ni webber at di nagbigayan..

great showing by jensson at the canadian gp. pag basa talaga passive technical drivers rule (except siguro kay schumi)...

why tatang why??

Sebastian Vettel guested in an episode of Top Gear UK (Ep 4 I think) and drove one of those regular small cars (guess where his lap time ended up compared to other F1 drivers who had guested?).

Anyways, based on his interview, this young lad seems Pretty Darn Cool! (compared to the robot-like Michael Schumacher and most of the previous F1 World Champs).  I'm now a fan.

Even when he was still in BMW, you can already see the potential of this kid. He deserves to be the World Champ...or should I say double World Champ.
