The Cinemalaya satire on Philippine indie movies "Ang Babae sa septic tank" will be our entry to the Oscars according to pep

I'm conflicted about this...I don't know if this is ironic or what since the movie was about filmmakers who wanted to go to the Oscars by exploiting western audiences' predeliction for poverty porn...
- will the Oscar people get it? Have they been exposed to Pinoy indie movies?
-also it's a comedy. Isn't it rare for comedies to make the cut?
-I would have preferred Nino as our entry...but still, good luck!
-
Pero what if this entry wins... malamang dahil ito sa 3 kinds of acting ni Eugene Domingo.. THE Eugene Domingo! ;D
-
This is nice to hear. Whatever the outcome, I'm glad they're going for that little statue.
-
There are a few other films I liked better (Zombadings, etc.) but I think this is a good choice (if Amigo wasn't qualified, of course) because it's about filmmaking and AMPAS often loves those kinds of stories and unlike Zombadings, the humor can easily be translated.
Despite my problems with the film, Eugene Domingo is not one of them. She should sweep all the Best Actress prizes locally and internationally for the "Three Kinds of Acting" scene alone.

I think that we should send an entry that we think is our best effort this year and not the one that we think the members of the Academy will like.

Lalo na ang TV Patrol Acting.... taob sila Meryl Streep or Natalie Portman... hehehe. ;D

1. I'd like to think that's why they picked it. Plus the novelty of it being about filmmaking will win it some votes within the Academy because a lot of them are filmmakers too.
2. Most of those who vote for the Best Foreign Language Film category are older/retired Academy members who strongly favor old-fashioned filmmaking rather than hip, inventive films. This is why they've created a seperate committeee that will try to get hipper, inventive films into the mix like Dogtooth last year for instance.
3. Rare but not that rare. There's one, maybe two, comedies nominated every other year.

That's great news! To think comedy pa yung role ni Eugene!
Pero sa Oscars mukhang malabo...Sa Golden Globes di tayo nakalusot.

Definitely wala na rin sa Oscars. The Oscar's Foreign Language nominees have already been narrowed down to 9 yesterday. Hindi kasama ang Philippines entry.
-
I've seen two of the films that made the 9: Pina and A Separation. They're both better than Babae.

Out now on DVD for P299.
