Finally, a thread about this underrated series--I love this show; it's actually brilliant and funnier than most comedies like the overhyped Modern Family; too bad it's getting clobbered in the ratings.

And pop culture aficionado Abed is one of the quirkiest characters to ever appear on TV--his love for Cougar Town resulted in one of the strangest unannounced crossovers between two shows airing on different networks, with 2 characters from Cougar Town doing a cameo on Community, and himself doing a cameo on Cougar Town the week after.  ;D

Agree! I've been following this tv series since day 1 and it is very funny. Plus Annie is HOOOT! haha!

For me, this is the most consistently funny sitcom on air. It's a MUST for pop culture enthusiasts. Amazing how they never run out of ideas of things to spoof.

That this show received no writing/acting/directing/best show Emmy nominations is a crime.

Cool.cool.cool. Thanks for the thread, mike c!

Britta is my favorite character, though it looks like they have no idea what to do with her this season. I think they even admitted it when Abed called her a Wild Card in "Remedial Chaos Theory"

It will still air until January 5. Saddened by the development, though. It makes a 4th season really unlikely.

based on viewership, it's not spectacular, but it's also at least not the bottom of the barrel ...

Actually, for NBC, I think it IS virtually the bottom of the barrel - the only show they have with lower ratings is CHUCK, and that's officially ending, so it probably isn't too much of a concern for them.

If Vulture is to believed, though, then there's definitely hope for the show: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/11/vulture-answers-your-questions-about-communitys-future.html

Ngyar. I haven't been happy with this latest season, but I'm really bummed by this news. On the plus side, I instantly fell in love with Happy Endings so at least I have a rebound, just in case (although I hear that show's ratings aren't that great either)

i tried this series when i read your post above.  i felt, the first episode didn't actually fit in (the rest of the episodes, seems like characters' attitudes were changed after the pilot, for the better IMO) but i've watched it straight through to the current episode and two thumbs up!

Community wins TV Guide's Fan Favorites Poll; the show received around 300,000 votes from fans on TV Guide's Facebook page, besting other fan favorites like Chuck and The Vampire Diaries.

The win resulted in 3 different covers for TV Guide's December 5, 2011 issue:

Hahaha, you're a better person than me: if I'd seen the pilot first, I wouldn't have given this show a second look. Luckily, my girlfriend was watching an episode from the 2nd season one day, and the rest was history.

For me, Season 2 was possibly the best sophomore season of any show. No sophomore slump.

Seasons 1 and 3 are about at the same level for me. Highs and lows. When it's on, it's AMAZING; and when it's off... it's still much better than most crap on air.

Time Magazine's analysis of the show is very accurate:

Community is television's first Cubist sitcom. Like the still lifes of Picasso or Braque, it starts with a simple tableau: a set of friends/acquaintances/nemeses in a community-college study group. Then, episode by episode — like a painter breaking a guitar into geometric shapes — obsessive creator Dan Harmon rearranges its component parts to play with perspective and create a picture truer than real life. One week the story is built around seven alternative timelines. Another, it's a parody of My Dinner with Andre. Another, it's told entirely through flashbacks to Community episodes that were never made. It's not just invention for its own sake but a way of using the storytelling frame to show how each character in the ensemble relates to the whole. Yet Community is not some high-art experiment but hilarious, good-time entertainment; it both defies sitcom formulas and lovingly embraces them. Unfortunately, NBC has just placed the low-rated series on hiatus. It should return later next year, and it may yet be renewed. If not, what we've gotten is worth hanging in a museum.

Time Magazine's analysis of the show is very accurate:

LOL, right on the money!

The best lingering image of this show for me is the one where the gang's making a diorama of themselves making a diorama.  ;D

The Christmas episode was somewhat bittersweet because it's the final episode for now, with no announced return date for next year; my guess is that it will return during summer, but hopefully sooner than that.

The end credits sequence, with the Dean, Chang, Magnitude, Star-Burns and Leonard doing their rendition of "Carol of the Bells" was freaking hilarious.  :D

Pero they conveniently tiptoed around the fact that Abed is a muslim...or did i miss something?

Hmm, not sure, but maybe it's because he was the first to be turned to the musical side, so his religion was never mentioned.

It's odd though that most of the USA press omitted some important details about what he said:

Quote
"Greenblatt addressed several long-standing issues straight off the top. The ratings-challenged cult comedy Community "has not been cancelled," he said. "It will definitely return at some point during the spring."

Greenblatt would not commit to further episodes beyond this season, however.

"We'll just have to see how our midseason performs," he said. "We have a really tight schedule with comedies, and there's not really a lot of room to move in. We need to take a look at the six new comedies we have coming this season, and then figure out where Community makes most sense."

Worst TV news I've heard. They should've cancelled the show instead:

New Showrunners to Replace Dan Harmon on Community
May 18, 2012 11:01 PM ET
by Michael Schneider

Greendale Community College has a new pair of headmasters. Just Shoot Me! alums Moses Port and David Guarascio have been tapped to step in and replace Dan Harmon as the new showrunners of NBC's Community. Harmon has been given a consulting producer title, but that doesn't mean he'll be actively involved on the show.

Even though NBC pleased fans by giving Community a 13-episode renewal last week, Harmon hadn't yet struck a deal with producer Sony Pictures TV to return as showrunner next season. That's because Sony had been looking to make a change at the top. Initially, Port and Guarascio (who more recently consulted on Happy Endings) turned the offer down — but Sony came back and sweetened the pot. The duo's credits also include Aliens in America; this season they wrote the Fox pilot El Jefe.

According to insiders, Harmon signed just a one-year deal last year, with no option that would force his return this season. With no new deal on the horizon, Harmon prepared a farewell message to run as a vanity production card during Community's season ender, but the idea was later nixed.

Sony is said to be looking at ways to broaden Community and attempt to extend the show's life on NBC — and it's no secret that studio and network execs have clashed with Harmon in the past. Insiders warn that Harmon is so closely identified with Community that squeezing him completely might alienate the show's small but fiercely loyal fan base. Not to mention most of the show's cast: "Dan's the creator of the show, the voice of the show, so I don't know how that would work without him," says star Joel McHale.

On Sunday, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said that he expected "Dan's voice to be a part of this show somehow. I'm just not sure if that means him running it day to day or consulting on it." (Harmon himself has said he's not interested in a consulting role.)

The decision to tap outside producers to join the show was also borne out of necessity, as Harmon's key producing partners are all exiting the show. Former exec producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan (who signed a deal at 20th Century Fox TV to create new shows) have already been hired to run Fox's Ben and Kate, while coexecutive producer Chris McKenna has set up a deal at Universal TV to develop new shows — and insiders said he wouldn't have taken the showrunner job without Harmon's involvement. The seeds of this week's showdown were planted long before Harmon's public feud with star Chevy Chase, but it likely didn't help. "It's hard to imagine that Dan will be back on the show," one source said earlier this week. "And it's hard to imagine that Dan won't be back on the show."

I read that this might happen a few weeks ago. It's a bit weird that it's only 5 episodes. I was thinking at least 7, so he'd be in half of the season. But last season's showrunners really didn't know how to write for Troy. He became peripheral, and of all the actors, you could really see the plastic "What the crap am I doing on this show?" expression on his face the most. Still, this is a dick move. I remember Henry Winkler's interview when asked why he stayed with Happy Days until the very end, and he said, "I would never leave the show that saved me from obscurity."

Season 5 has the show's old feel back. The characters are actually characters, not stereotypes who feel the need to explain their behavior every week. And Donald Glover no longer has that Stepford Wives look in his eyes that he had throughout last year. Too bad he's leaving, it'll be hard to imagine Abed without Troy.

I loved the surprise cameo in the premiere.

Too bad the ratings were even worse than last season. I guess the disaster called Season 4 lost a lot of the audience, and they just didn't come back even with Dan Harmon back at the helm.

Natawa ako sa sinabi ni troy about zach braff coming back to scrubs for only a few episodes in season 9 "after everything scrubs did for his career?" Hahaha!

Fox Channel Philippines held a meet-and-greet contest for fans.

A friend of mine just happened to be in the same walking tour yesterday.

Not sure. Didn't look into the details.

Ganda ng GI Joe episode ng Community this week. The best episode since season 2 for me.

...but they really should get Donald Glover back. Also liked the addition of Jonathan Banks last season, they should also bring him back.

i agree regarding Donald Glover. Abed just seems so incomplete without Troy. kahit yung pasulpot-sulpot lang like John Oliver.

Holy cow, boys and girls: "Community" has been renewed, after all. The dream of six seasons and a movie is still alive — thanks to Yahoo, of all places, which closed a deal for an additional season of the cult NBC comedy.

it's not nice. Dan Harmon says they're bringing in 2 new characters in the show. one was a failed sales rep. probably someone who'll rival Jeff on his speeches ;D

And yes Alison Brie is the cutest/prettiest thing on TV.

It finally ended today. Four seasons too late, IMHO. LOL

I did like the final scene with all the narration, but I thought the episode itself, much like most of the season, was weak.

I'd still watch the movie if it ever comes, but strictly for completion purposes only.

Community on Netflix is remastered to 4K HDR.

Community on Prime Video has the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_(Community)) episode that was removed from Netflix.
