The Undead Return To The Philippines In DI INGON NATO (NOT LIKE US)
by Todd Brown, October 29, 2011 2:31 PM
Asia, Horror
There is a new wave of talent emerging in the Philippines, a wave of film rising up away from the studios and embracing new directors, new genres, and new approaches to more familiar material. A focal point for the movement appears to be the Cinema One originals series - multiple titles from this year's edition have already been featured on Twitch - and this year Cinema One gets horrific with Di Ingon Nato (Not Like Us).
In a remote mountain village in Cebu, Philippines, a farmer will commit murder, a young doctor will lose her first patient, and a baranggay captain will find a girl, brutally murdered in a cemetery. Within the next few days, a mystery surrounding the entire boondock will be unraveled, and they will have to rely on each other to survive. And so begins the string of horrific events that is Di Ingon Nato, a film by Brandon Relucio and Ivan Zaldarriaga, which accounts the last days of the townspeople, and how they respond to an incurable afflication that can take away the living, as well as breathe life to the dead. Di Ingon Nato is a gritty ensemble piece (Lead by Rez Cortez, Mercedes Cabral, Franco Reyes, and Donna Gimeno) portraying how people cope with the death of their loved ones. It is also a film about how they react when their loved ones return......
A very artistic twist on the zombie genre the first trailer for the film has just arrived and looks absolutely fantastic. Take a look below.

-
For the preem tomorrow night, 300 seats the capacity of the theatre as oppose to the regular screening run of 90 seats.

Gripping, edge-of-your seat suspense and fantastic screening last night inspite of the technical glitch that almost ran for 20 minutes. I was uneasy at first with the camera movement mostly hand held shots but you almost feel that someone will bite you every minute! The creepy musical score jibe with the atmosphere and milieu of the film.
The sequence wherein the barrio lass doctor's reaction after treating her patients and no other way on how she can make them survive, could have been improved. Its a bit toned down.
Visually appealing and great ensemble acting. ZOMBADINGS move over. This is pure undiluted terror! Kudos to Brandon Relucio your efforts paid off man! And to Ivan Zaldarriaga!
-
I don't think you can compare Zombadings to this.
I really *wish* these types of films will be the one shown during the MMFF. *sighs*.
-
The genre, Klaus. YANGGAW is more coherent in story telling but the scary parts IMO puts DI INGON NATO at par with YANGGAW.
-
Di ingon Nato will not be shown tonight due to technical problem.
-
any idea where i can get a copy of this?and yangaww, too?ngayon ko lang nabasa tong thread. :(
-
Yanggaw is available on dvd but it was a bit hard to find. Wala sa Astrovision last Christmas. Found it at the video section of Landmark Makati. Don't know about Di Ingon Nato.
-
thanks for the reply,halvert. :)
-
It's not yet available on dvd right now. This will also be screened in Cebu next week along with other Cinema One Originals.
-
let us know naman if available na to on dvd please. :)
-
Yup will let you know pao.
-
Finally saw this. Loved it immensely. And that last scene was, well, killer! :)
-
very interested in this... where can I watch this?
-
It was shown in a theater last week, I think. A very good friend lent me a screener.
-
Indie Boi did you saw it already?! Kinda creepy and there's tension on it. Too bad di gaano na flesh out that bald zombie. He's quite effective.
-
Just read this pre. Loved it. I really like that slow descent to chaos. Tension was built up effectively. Nasayangan lang ako sa small role ni Mercedes Cabral. I look forward to the director's next project.

Is this available on DVD? I want to watch this.
