hello mga sirs/mam,
just wanted to ask kung anu sa ngayon ang masasabing good/very good all rounder DVD player?
things to consider:
1. region free
2. very good upscaling capability
3. very good stereo audio output
4. matibay
kung may USB capability would be a plus... :)
di rin needed maging BD capable po, just pure Audio CD/DVD capability.
salamat po sa mga inputs...
-
You can't go wrong with Pioneer DVD players
-
i personally use a pioneer DV LX50 for DVDs and CDs. it's an excellent upscaler and CD player if I should say so myself.

BTW: @warmaster - mag kano sir ung ganyan model?
-

:D I'm still using my pioneer dv=420. Ok naman ang performance niya as a DVD player. You can also use the digital output ng player for your tube DAC preamp.
-
un nga master eh, kaya di ko pa makita ung BD sakin talaga... hahaha! so pio 420? isis isip... hehehe!
BTW: any comments on its capability to upscale DVD movies vs using ung BD on DVD films?

I've had Pioneer upscaling DVD players dati. Mas maganda ang picture ng Cambridge at Marantz DVD players for me, mas mahal lang (pwedeng Toshiba kung gusto mo cheaper na decent pa din ang picture). Greatest problem ko sa Pioneer is mosquito noise saka lack of shadow and highlight detail.

I never noticed the upscaling ng Pio-420 ko. Yun mga 480p files ko, maganda siya and more than descent for me. Very smooth ang edges. Regarding 720p vs 1080p, not so noticable sa akin ang difference because 720p lang ang PJ ko. Old model pa.
I also tried the Pio-420 as a cd player using the analog line output.

tips para sa pioneer LX50 owners. you can replace (but at your own risk) the audio DAC and audio output
op amps with better parts. the stock DAC is burr brown 1796 (already a very good DAC) and can be directly replaced with 1792 (burr brown top of the line) As for the opamps, you can replace them with parts from NS. excellent cd/sacd/dvd-audio player!!

thanks for the tip. might let the one year warranty pass before i have it modded. any idea where i can have it modded?
-
I just got the parts from the internet (don't know if they are still giving free samples).
removed the audio board and brought it to the cellphone repair technicians to replace the parts. I just paid 100Php for the labor (replacement)

In my personal experience, there is none...

best Bd, dvd, cd player... HTPC. ;)

Philippines is in region 0 which mean na region free tau,so mostly na nabibili na ngaun na dvd's are coded region 0, so you don't need to worry about looking for region free na dvd player.
The reasons lang naman kasi na my mga region codes are first this will allow the film distributor to release a dvd and sell certain movies in dvd in different price.kasi film distributors releases dvd's na may mga magagandang special features, dito na mag fall ung codes kasi may mga countries na willing to pay more just to get the movies.so tau since included sa third world country though region free ung code natin selected ung mga dvd's kasi nagbabase din to sa mga bibili nung dvd.at the reson na implemented etong mga region codes na eto para to prevent releases ng film.so may mga films kasi na ipapalbas pa lang sa ibang country na sa ibang country released na in dvd so this is to prevent piracy ,pero sad to say na may lumulusot pa rin.

We fall under DVD Region Code 3.
-
You should research,Region 0(Region Free) is widely use by China and Philippines. May mga region codes na they indicate na southeast asia-pero it doesn't mean na covered tau ng region three.dahil latest reports widely used natin ang region 0.
-
^^Seriously? I think you should be the one to research..
Anyway, Phils is region 3. There is no 'Region 0' assigned for a country or a region. It just tells that the DVD is region free and can be use in any DVD player with or without region coding.

Most of us have players na may region code logo sa likod and a number 3, denoting DVD region code 3. It is true that many of these players sell unlocked or can be unlocked, but that does not change the fact na we fall under region code 3.

Can you back up your facts with references so as to enlighten us? I think wala naman rudeness akong nakikita kay Philander.

I maybe rude, but Stagea said, it doesnt change the fact that we fall under region code 3.
Too much patronizing bootleg and pirated DVDs? Just asking.
You can always check the back casing of each DVD in a legitimate local DVD stores, you can see this logo
(http://d3d71ba2asa5oz.cloudfront.net/62000501/images/region%203%20logo%20wire.jpg)
to at least 90% of the DVDs being sold there
Save yourself from providing wrong information. Learn basics of DVD first :)

yup, na try ko na din 'to before unlocking the region code of my philips dvd (even asked here on this forum for the step by step)......
since region 3 yung player ayaw mag play yung mga region 1 kong dvds, accept nya lang yung mga region 3 and those dvds i personally bought locally (e.i. astrovision).
changed to region 1 code, only region 1 dvds played and did not accept the region 3 discs.
changed to region 0 code, both region 1 and 3 dvd discs now accepted/played by the player.
also, I own beatles anthology which was coded to '0' code which i bought from ert. it accepted/played before and after the region code update on my player.
-
hope this helps, this is based on my actual test during the region code update on my dvd player :)
-
my first dvd player was a playstation 2 bought when it launched in japan (region 2?). didn't know about region codes back then and just wondered why the local dvd's i rented from blockbuster wouldn't work (region 3). so unless there's a dark secret or conspiracy theory that the philippines is or was originally region 0 we'd all like to hear it.
-

My Pioneer DVD player 410V is pretty much in bad shape already, so I need to replace it. I'd like to try another brand, any suggestions?
Should be ALL-REGION (We still have a big number of Region 2 Japan DVDs)
Thanks.

Previously, I think only Pioneer dvd players (220, 420, 600, 610) that were sold locally are region-free (without hacking) but I think the newer models are already locked to Region 3 along with LG, Samsung and Sony dvd players. I'm not sure about lesser known brands, i.e. Next Base, Ganzklar, etc.if these are region-free. Instead, been using for sometime a Philips BD3100 as bd/dvd player (default to Region 3) but can easily be hacked via the supplied remote for region-free dvd play.

Local Yamaha and Cambridge Audio DVD players used to be region free too, I believe. :)
