Set in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe, S.H.I.E.L.D. is being developed as an ABC TV series by Marvel Television. The pilot will be directed by Joss Whedon, who will also share writing and executive production duties.
The series will focus on new characters while sharing the same continuity with the movies. Whedon states, "It's new characters. It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent [to The Avengers]... What does S.H.I.E.L.D. have that the other superheroes don't? And that, to me, is that they're not superheroes, but they live in that universe. Even though they're a big organization, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that's interesting to me."

At today’s Marvel Television Presents panel at New York Comic Con, Head of TV Jeph Loeb announced that Clark Gregg will reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson in the live-action pilot "Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D."!

Asian-American actress Ming-Na (ER, Stargate Universe) was recently confirmed as the second cast member of S.H.I.E.L.D.
She will play Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert.

British actress Elizabeth Henstridge and Scottish actor Iain De Caestecker have joined the cast of Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D.
Henstridge will play science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons, while De Caestecker will play tech guru Agent Leo Fitz.

ABC has released a longer title and a description for its Avengers spin-off television series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Here's how the series is described:

"Fresh from his role in the summer's box office smash, Marvel's The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. The premiere date has finally been set for "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and it will hit the air on Tuesday, September 24 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.

Enjoyed it a lot--it's nice that they're expanding the plotline from Iron Man 3, and it also helps that all the lead women characters are damn fine sexy ladies. ;D However, the lead male agents (except for Coulson), are annoying schmucks.

ABC says that its series debut of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. opened a strong #1 in the time period with Adults 18-49, defeating NBC's Tuesday premiere of "The Voice" by 15% and CBS' season premiere of "NCIS" by 35%, to qualify as TV's highest rated drama debut in nearly 4 years - since 11/3/09.

Current speculation about Coulson was that he has always been an LMD, never human...also, people are pointing out that he quickly dodged that car door towards the end, making the LMD theory even more plausible.

I don't think it's about compensation. Because the more they can't afford Samuel L. Jackson...who is the highest grossing actor in Hollywood. And I would guess there's a provision in their respective contracts that they appear in future Marvel related ventures.
Probably more about scheduling conflicts.

ABC has just announced a full season pick-up for their new series "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." With only three episodes under its belt, the show's first season has been extended to a full 22 episode order with the addition of a "back 9" order.

I believe Coulson is also a clone. The key also for me was that scene where he was disassembling the pistol Parang the body was not reacting naturally to his memories. It's like your memories say you used to be a professional basketball player. But when you step onto a court, you don't know how to shoot nor dribble.

LOL, it's probably their way of luring the horny young adult geeks into watching, because at this point, the series seems to be gradually losing its viewers, and always getting trounced by NCIS in terms of viewership and ratings.

This show continues to sink, with the most recent episode yesterday being the lowest-rated episode ever. Since its pilot episode, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already lost half of its original viewers, and next week's Thor: The Dark World tie-in
filler episode should be a test whether viewers are still interested in this clunker.

I don't watch this show anymore, but the Marvel Universe is filled with D-list characters that could easily be utilized for this show. There's Demolition Man (or D-Man), Rage, and Triathlon. All three were Avengers at one point or another, believe it or not.

The biggest problem with this show is that it's just filler space for the Marvel movies, since they can't possibly reveal or mention upcoming big events that will be shown in the films. So they're just basically killing time until the next films are shown, while dealing with lame-ass bad guys like the Rising Tide and Centipede instead of biggies like Hydra.
I'm curious to see how this show will be affected by the events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as it will reveal kinks in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s main organizational structure and some traitors within it. But the way this show is going, they'll just probably gather around at some touchscreen table and just talk, talk, talk. ....zzzzzzzzzzzzz :P

For me it did :) Can't recall which episode, but I think it was when November was activated. I wouldn't forget the phrase "There are three flowers in a vase. The third flower is green."

this show needs new writers. they should get both marvel comic writers and good tv writers together in one room and lock them in until they come up with a better story line. it's like heroes all over again. but unlike heroes, this might not even have a second season.

Pero at least may overall story arc yun W13. Yun Shield kasi parang case of the week lang every episode. Parang yun pinaka story line na lang yun what happened to Agent Coulson. I'm not sure though if that is enough to sustain the show for 1 season.

But still, talo pa rin--mas marami pang nanood ng Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (an annual broadcast of a 1964 animated special) than AoS, LOL

parang coulson's secret was a bit anti-climactic considering they were trying to harp on it ever since the start of the series. ok, so he died and they revived him using advanced technology and they placed nice memories to cover that up. uhmmm...

yeah. in Clark Gregg's FB page they're spreading the hashtag #ItsAllConnected. i'm glad they're kicking it up a notch. show's getting more interesting now. Now i wonder if Agent Hand is a member of Hydra.

After skipping more than 10 episodes, I watched the last one just to see how it ties into Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Turns out I didn't miss much at all; while references to the movie were good, the main plotline and dialogue for this TV series and its characters remain as dumbed-down as ever, like a live-action version of a Saturday morning cartoon targeted for grade-schoolers.
They should add Cobie Smulders, Bill Paxton, and Saffron Burrows as regular cast members, make Victoria Hand and Deathlok the main villains, plus ditch that airplane with the badly-lighted interiors and that ridiculous Clairvoyant plot as well as half of its boring supporting cast.

I agree...resumed watching some episodes after the fallout in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and it still reminds me of a live-action cartoon geared for kids. However the producers may justify it, this show just serves as filler space to the movies, which means they can't reveal anything in advance but only react to the events in the movies; they admitted as much that they couldn't even use the word "Hydra" until after the Captain America movie was released, and instead resorted to crap like "Centipede" as filler.

Because believe it or not, I want this show to survive; I'm just frustrated at the way Marvel is handling it...they should be more courageous in establishing tight inter-continuity between the movies and TV show. Right now the show is off-limits to future plotlines of the movies and is just reacting to events in the movies; it should be more than that--it would've been great to see major events in the show ricochet into the movies, not the other way around. Coulson not appearing in Captain America and taking out Sitwell himself was a missed opportunity.
There are reports that next season will be divided into two parts, with a certain number of episodes aired first, then the Agent Carter series takes over its timeslot. After the Agent Carter run, the second set of AoS episodes will resume.

Yeah, I was hoping na it would pick up its pace and actually be better than its earlier episodes but so far it has been really bland and the story has been absolutely piss-poor. Plus the acting really needs some improvement. Doesnt feel natural at all.
This series gave me a little heroes vibe...but that series had some decent acting. Cant say the same for this. And I'm not saying negative things just to put this show down. I'm a huge fan of superhero/comics turned live action movie or tv show and every episode I keep wishing that this series develops into something really interesting. But it hasnt and that is where the negative comments and disappointment come from.

Just started watching this a week ago, thanks for that iflix subscription discount. I have been enjoying this a lot. Parang mas ok yata pag di mo alam yung kwento sa comics, or sa movies, mas ma eenjoy mo siya. Hindi ako updated sa movies, as i seldom have the chance to watch even on home video due to work.
Now into season 2, and enjoying it a lot so far.

While the show has been renewed for a 13-episode 6th season, that season will not be aired until Summer of 2019. Which stands to reason, because the 4th Avengers movie will be out in May 2019 and the series can't do anything to supersede the events of the movie.

It would have been very difficult to make it work. The last few episodes would have been shot way before the movies came out, and considering how careful they have been about spoilers leaking out , directly tying in the show to the movie would have been a nightmare as far as keeping things under wraps.

^^It would've been impossible, since there were earlier reports that the ending of Infinity War was only revealed to the SHIELD writers when the movie premiered, heh. And the Russo Brothers have been quoted in earlier interviews that they really have no idea what's going on in the TV shows,
The current buzz is that with time travel prominently figuring in Avengers 4, Phil Coulson might not be killed by Loki when the first Avengers movie takes place, returning him to the MCU.
