Unique features (taken from emailed info from Hi-Media)
1. Q5 has higher hardware configuration with 1GHZ Arm Cortex A9, 1GB DDR, and 4GB FLASH.

It runs as google ICS 4.0.3,

2. Compared to other Android TV box from Amlogic, telechip , rockchip and allwinner, the biggest difference is that Q5 has the best file playback compatibility on kinds of video / audio format.
It supports DTS-HDMA, TUREHD 7.1 passthrough,  and support BDMV and BDISO with  BD-Lite Navigation menu.

The performance and interface is similar  to HIMEDIA’s  1185(realtek) products.
Q5 also has samba and NFS support, which let's  Q5 play files from network shared PC.
Q5 supported  HLS/HTML5,  so it is easy to use it as IPTV STB .
3. HiControl,    HiControl is an App developed by HiMedia. With this App, your Android smart-phone can be transformed to Touch-screen and Remote-controller. Take control on your Android smart-phone while the action unfolds on your widescreen TV. Using Gravity Sensing of your smart phone, you even can play games like Crazy Snow Ball on your HDTV.

Hi-Media Q5 has a good feature, looks into all your attached drives and shows them by name, or present sorted by name, midification date(to see latest files copied) filter by filetype, or search. great for multi disks

and navigating them is FAST!!!, as in blazing. more to post soon.

Just to give you an idea of the performance of the UI (all at 1x speed, no edits)

Hi-Media Q5 responsive File List Navigation (w/ Sort by Name, Date Added, Across all directly plugged media)  (http://youtu.be/cbh_hL0dTOk)

Hi-Media Q5 responsive when Navigating/Skipping Scenes   (http://youtu.be/fVIeaQXe62k)

Up Next .... Google Play (yes it actually loads the software direct from Google Play!)

Ayos, pag free ka PM mo ko, daanan mo sa house. Use my Q10 muna(only 1 fresh from factory), i have more Q5s so excited ako.

BD Full menu wala din(not sure if their direction is to support it), simple meron per specs but have not tried. nilaro ko yung Google play (remember 1186 you need the apk from the respective NMT manufacturer not from google play directly).

sir jim, will this unit play the basic HD movies just like an NMT? almost same lang ba ang capabilities nya in playing movies like the R6S?

plan to buy 1 for my bedroom. wala naman akong audio setup doon at di rin kelangan mag ISO movies. mas maganda siguro ito compared to the android USB dongle for TV.

Oo, panalo yung box, tuwang tuwa mga anak ko kasi puro ipad/itouch/iphone hand me downs sila :)

Nagulat ako sa speed, kasi I've used other similar chip, not as responsive.

kakatuwa pa yung forward nya may acceleration(longer you press the more skips  it does, and pag bitaw playback agad!).

Q10 1 unit with me, evaluating it pa.

Airplay will send the display to the Q5/Q10 if/when app supports it. video playback and picture browsing I've tested, have not seen other apps prompting the airplay capable icon (i.e. games ba?, those would have been cool for mine craft ) :)

This is still my fave NMT player right now... i've put all my other ones in their boxes and likely to sell them off.

The only thing I needed to fix is if there is a way to make this do USB port replication. When I connect the Mediasonic 8bay drive enclosure, it only recognizes the first hard drive unfortunatel which is a 3Tb unit.

It can however detect all the 2 other external drives simultaneously connected to it: 1 Hitachi 4Tb external drive and another WD 2Tb drive without problems together with the Mediasonic.

Same issue with my Mediasonic 8-bay and 4-bay, Have you tried with a dual dock? I see no technical reason not to be able to see the drives, except the firmware.

sir jim,

lahat ba ng capability ng R6S magawa ng Q5? if so, i will sell my R6S and get a Q5.

Q5 is positioned as a MKV player, the R6S has more capabilities handling ISO and 3D, i dont see those options in Q5.

Q5 currently has a limitation of recognizing the 1st disk only of a multi-bay drive.  I tried my dual disk USB 2.0 and dual disk 3.0 of garfield, it will only see and mount the 1st disk.   I raised this with Q5 and they say its not supported, but  I see no technical reason why it cannot do it, but perhaps there's a limitation in indexing multi-bay drive.

Just bought Mizuu from googleplay (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.miz.mizuu&hl=en) yesterday for the Q10 unit:
ANG Galing!

You can even edit the cover, poster, title and reidentify the movie.

i suggest you change the default display settings so that it will scroll through the movies it has discovered ala  screen saver, 5 seconds of the image + title. if you have a mouse, click the desktop and it takes you to the overview of the movie, You can check the cast list later,

it also has a collection filter so that you can see your trilogies, in one cover art, then drill down to the collection titles (i.e. Iron man 1,2, 3)

Mizuu really fantastic for your Q5/Q10!

@toys4geeks THANK YOU for the heads-up. Enjoying the Q10-IV a lot for movies.
Maganda na rin yung kasamang interface ng  Q10 IV.

The nuisance  lang sa old Q10 is if you have different device path for multi usb your mizuu links will fail. It's a mizuu  problem and not the Q10 and what order  it discovers the usb devices(I had 3 USB devices ). I solved it by migrating to a raid on JBOD.

Also the old Q10  does  not support reconnecting a multiport  USB hub or the 4 bay 8 bay mediasonic (it will only see the 1st drive)

Mizuu in you android will let you do a multi install (smart phone, tablet, android media players) for 1 Google play account

Was able to get my hands on the Hi-Media Q10 media player through the generosity of our fellow PinoyDVD member Jojo aka "CoolTOYZ"
Thank you bro ;)

Here's my non-pro initial impressions...
More of a "screenshot" review ^-^

Build Quality is solid, comparable to the Dune media player I owned before.
The remote is an improvement compared with other media players with same price point.
Android User Interface is very fluid and smooth which I really liked.

Tested the 4K playback:
*Smooth/flawless playback
*No Lag and Shutter
*Picture quality is very good (8.5/10)
*Video file is the LG 4K demo material

OVERALL I'm really impressed with the performance of this media player.
Solidly built and very smooth UI.
Only downside I'm seeing right now is the inability to bitstream native ATMOS audio format.

I highly recommend this and I'm actually considering getting one for myself ;) ;D

Is it true that Himedia Q plays 24p correctly but not 23.976p?

I don't think there's any Android box that supports 23.976p.

There is another Firmware upgrade to correct the 23.976p
http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=186.0

Q10 4K3D. 26-MAY-2015. FIRMWARE HMD-1.0.9 FUTEKO-EN. Changelog:

1. Pre-installed Skype, Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, Kodi.
2. Fixed Kodi and Chrome cannot update.
3. Miracast.
4. One click to enter APPs on the main UI.
5. Supports 23.976fps.

Thanks for the reply.

But I don't trust the published specs.  Better if a user sees it for himself.

Even if a player does not render 23.976p correctly, it will still play a 23.976p file --- just not correctly.  There will be one frame skipped every 41.67 secs.

Most people don't notice it anyway, so it would not be a big deal to most users.

I remember showing sir Nelson how my WDTV player cannot render true 24p correctly (it renders 23.976p correctly).  I called his attention every time one frame skipped.  But he never saw a single frame skip.

Question lang mga sir:
Aside from having an internal hdd bay in Q10, whats significant difference does a Q5 with Q10? Does Q5 had the same firmware with Q10? Are all Q5 version 4 the same? Does european version had the advantage of being "firmware upgradeble"?

The only difference I have experienced running both Q5 and Q10.
1) Q5 External HDD / Q10 Interal HDD.
- although the Q10 runs even without an internal HDD. USB HDD is playable even without Internal HDD.

2) Q10 you can operate even without a remove control because of the front keypad. Q5 you need the remote.

3) QC and Q10 have the DIFFERENT Firmware but same functionality.

I only have the European version and do not have experience with the Chinese version.

Having several NMTs at home, I can say the picture quality of the Himedia Q10/Q5 is really stunning.

1) Verify if it is Q5 4K3D
- Q5 Quad and Q5-I looks the same.
2) Verify if it is EURO version, not chinese version.
- Chinese version does not have firmware support.

That is an excellent price is you can get a Euro version at HK$599.00

@gutierrez, I am using the JojoD PSU( 12V 5AMP) I purchased from you connected to my HiMedia Q10.
I can say 25-30% improvement in Audio and Video output.

For fellow HiMedia owners like me, an investment in a PSU is very much recommended.
I am thinking for ordering a 2nd PSU for the bedroom set-up.

^ on audio playing WAV files the bass is more evident and the separation better.
On Movies the image has less grain and the color more vivid.
I was also very surprised with the result.
I switched the stock wallwart with the JojoD PSU three times just to check, and indeed it is the PSU that is producing the good results.

One thing I learned is that if you check the stock PSU with a tester, the Voltage fluctuates from 12 to 12.5V.
On the JojoD PSU the voltage is firm at 12V.

gents, In laymans terms, anong difference ng Q1 vs Q8  when it comes to picture / Audio quality?

Will the Q8 be better at playing larger files > 10 gig vs the Q1 ?

This is the difference between both models:

HiMedia Q1 – Quadcore, 1 gig of RAM, 8 Gig of Flash, android 4.4 streaming set top box

HiMedia Q8 – Quadcore, 2 gig of RAM, 8 Gig of Flash, Android 4.4 streaming set top box –

Basically the Q8 has twice as much ram and has optical output, but the Q1 only has HDMI.

Both can run KODI and play high definition and 4K in 7.1 channels.

After a couple of days on the H8, I have it working to how I really wanted it to function.

Here are the things I setup:
1.) Futeko 1.0.9 firmware -> this allowed me to use Kodi 15.2 with working HD Passthrough for both DTSHDMA and Dolby TrueHD (finally, after years without it on my Sigma based device)
2.) Google US account -> The only way I was able to install Hulu. Unfortunately, the apk version can be installed, but it did not allow streaming playback. It always resulted in playback error. After installing the VPN Hotspot app, I was able to access the US Play Store and use my US Google account. I was then able to download and install the US Hulu app and I have it functional. I was looking for the same Hulu Plus Android TV app but it wouldn't appear in my search. Btw, I also have Getflix setup which allows me to access Hulu library.
3.) Netflix and iFlix were installed through the default Philippine Playstore. But since I had Getflix setup in my home network, I was able to access the US Netflix database as well.

I was able to enjoy the H8 during the weekend and I really appreciate the improvement in PQ and SQ over my previous NMT. The subtitles are much better as well with this device, font-wise and lay-out wise. And lastly, I like how fast it responds to the remote. Almost no noticeable delay/lag.

I'm still unable to let go of my AppleTV3 though since I feel that Hulu and Netflix are clearer over that device. And the menus and options are easily accessible there or they are much better organized.

If any of you guys have any tips to improve how I did things hope you could share here too. Thanks and happy watching!

**Btw, I did the install with the full reset. I tried the upgrade install previously but I noticed that Kodi was not installed correctly and HD Passthrough did not function properly because of this.

Both Himedia H8 & Q10 have the same PQ / SQ. its just that the Q10 can fit an internal hard drive, while the H8 only works with external.

Labas na nga ata ang pro, and it looks like the player prefered by enthusiasts sa forums....

I personally like sana ung Q5 (prefer external HDD, slimmer and usually cheaper :)), unfortunately wala dito. We have the Q10 being sold by a member, if me time, I would like to try it at baka ma palitan na ung super outdated but very reliable (and rather stable) egreat NMT ko.

Intriguing yung "like darbee" processing na un ehh  ^-^

I only need an MKV player with hd audio passthrough, no bells and whistles such as 3d and 4k :D

I personally have q10 and im quite impressed how the box performed. Ung q10 pro grabe laki ng dagdag sa specs laki din kaya ng difference sa price?

Q10 vs q10 pro
4kuhd vs 4khdr? Di ko alam pinagkaiba nito
32bit proc vs 64bit
8gig internal vs 16gig internal
No bluetooth  vs bluetooth 4.0
Kitkat vs lollipop
Hdmi 1.4 vs hdmi 2.0

And more....

The Himedia Q5 and 10 pro use the same chipset and same software. Only difference is that Q10 pro can fit an internal hard drive, while Q5 only uses external hard drives.

Q10 pro will be available once again in the first week of August.

If you want to improve the PQ and SQ of the HiMedia best to get a Linear PSU.
I got mine from JojoD and I have been using it for a few months.

Recently I wanted to use the Linear PSU on another gadget and tried using the OEM PSU.
The degradation in the picture quality was immediately noticeable and I immediately returned the Linear PSU.
HTH.

You have to give it to Himedia with their software development team, Heto isang popular feature sa himedia but most people miss out.
  • Hold down the SET button on the Himedia remote until the red LED stays brightly lit.
  • Press the key on the Himedia remote that you want to program. The red LED should blink steadily.
  • Hold the original remote you want to learn from very close (1cm gap is perfect) and point it at the the IR sensor of the Himedia remote.
  • Press the button on the original remote that you want to learn. The Himedia remote red LED should stay on for a second then briefly blick fast.
  • Press SET on Himedia remote to exit learning mode.
  • Test the button you've programmed on the Himedia remote.

Ilang beses kana ba naghanap ng remote at yung himedia remote andjan pero yun remote ng TV di mo makita ? :)

Lost yours or broke yours? I got you covered,  Remember the tragedy of having a media player without button controls sa front panel and you know what its like to have an elephant in your TV room. Try that with other units. iyak ka maghanap ng remote.

Try to rename the subtitle same as the movie file name.

Yes

You have to pick a service for your subtitle and enable it I use opensubtitle.org

Then during playback of the movie while running on jarvis I hit the menu and move to subtitle and it will prompt to download . I'll do a short video step by step later when I get around it

OoT : My eldest sister is hearing and speech impaired kaya I got into media players .How I wish I can automate this for all folders

Those are raw device files pointing to your drive

You can't rename the device names , but the devices  mount to the android file system as a folder. Maybe you can rename the mounting point folder name ? Not sure yet

Subtitle downloading on playback
Click on menu and go to subtitle and click download

I use opensubtitles.org so you need to feed your login info after installing the service

Or If you want something up working fast. Use the Subscene addon.  After they require a login on to opensubtitles site , I just switch to subscene. So far everything is doing fine.

Sa kodi,
you can create under movies to include
Sda2/movies
Sda2/movie series
Sda2/animation

You just need to deduplicate sda2 with your say 16tb raid as I find common files in my master storage mediasonic vs my 6tb local drive

Also make sure you plug on the same port (so android mounts the device to that same sdxx device as it is in its update library) and also power on the device same way(I leave my 8 x 4-Tb + 16tb raid on the same ports on boot up ng q10 pro)

Note to self:

I used an app before on windows. that does auto scrapping and subtitles for all movies in a directory.

I forgot the name of the app. But I am just saying you do not need to do scrapping and subtitles download inside kodi.

As usual I forgot the name of the app.

meron sir, try mo  but the search is not as good under kodi where it prompts you. it just picks up the filename kasi unless you are ready to rename using a bulkrenamer tool.

Meron. I shifted from Mede8er to Himedia Q10 Pro. Sa Kodi then Video you just add the folder/location where your movies are located. You'll be able to select the movie/tv scraper. After that it will start to get the metadata for your movies. Sa home screen ng Kodi "Movies" will show up, pag nag click ka dun you can see the thumbnails and you can just configure the view settings to your liking.

Tried out different skin sa kodi and settled with Amber. Mas maganda pag display ng mga thumbnails niya.

At first nahirapan ako mag setup sa Himedia Q10 Pro kasi daming configurations unlike Mede8er na konti lang ang kakalikutin mo. Once you've set it up naman, you can just sit back and be amazed with it.

Use the special TV buttons of your HIMEDIA Q5 Pro or Q10 Pro

Just like the Egreat compatible backlit remote controllers before , you can also program the TV buttons of your Himedia Q5 Pro and Q10 Pro.
STEPS
1. Hold down the SET button on the Himedia remote until the red LED stays brightly lit.
2. Press the key on the Himedia remote that you want to program (volume up / volume down / AV selector / Power). The red LED should blink steadily (awaiting infrared signal sequence from your TV remote)
3. Hold the original TV remote you want to learn from and press they key you wish himedia to mimic (1cm gap is perfect) and point it at the the IR sensor of the Himedia remote.
4.  The Himedia remote red LED should stay on for a second then briefly blink fast.
5. once done, Press SET on Himedia remote to exit learning mode.
6. Test the button you've programmed on the Himedia remote.

Did you know you could put wifi signal in any or all your rooms with a q5 pro or Q10 pro?

Install them and if you have a Lan cable in your Ht room or your living room simply  connect it via LAN, the turn your q5 pro/q10 pro  to a hotspot in the android settings  :)

I already have the latest firmware but still there is hiccup in Dolby Digital / DTS audio pass through. Do you experience hiccups in Q5 0r Q10? If not I might upgrade H8 plus to Q series.

Or I should I request for another unit of H8 plus?

Sometimes using the in-menu "check for latest firmware" option does not actually mean that you have the latest firmware unless you check it yourself online. Some firmware updates cannot be done OTA. You need to manually download it yourself to your desktop computer and load it using a flash drive.

if the same, then try to tweak around with the TV's picture settings.. once it becomes good, then go try back with the HiMedia Q5 Pro..

if internal TV's media player displays it right, then it's the Hi-Media Pro Q5 that needs to be configured... is this thru Kodi you're experiencing?

Yes its through KODI.

Have not tried playing the 4k movies directly sa LG, will try later if kaya iplay, then will compare the difference.

Netflix 4k and Dolby Vision wala namang problem sa black. Was watching the whole Luke Cage season, laging gabi ang scene wala naman problem.

Sirs,

Purchased my Himedia Q10 Pro  2 weeks ago in Greenhills. Just to clarify, our unit is an international version release and not the Chinese version, am I correct?

TIA.  ;)

Can't say for certain for your case, but likely if the one who sold it to you ordered it online.

When I ordered my stock I specified  all International version kaya futeko.com ang firmware I load.

I think they mentioned the differences ng hw ng local Chinese q10 pro vs international sa futeko.com , kaya futeko fw will brick a china q10 pro.  HTH future assistance better dun Lang as Himedia support tips and tricks

Sir,

Is it safe to use skycable digibox power cord to Q10 pro unit?  They're both 12V and has same plug size. Or dapat yung para sa himedia lang?

THANKS.

If 12v and it says at least 2A or higher should be ok

As with other devices, the storage presentation order during discovery have fixed order of USB port scanning .

Keep these in mind when you have multiple disk towers.

I have 1 32TB Mediasonic Proraid
And two towers of 4Tb x 8 bay raids attached to my main Himedia q10 pro.

You would think a Sata will be discovered first then the USB devices next.

The trick is to remember which USB disk plugs to what port so Kodi can cleanly update the library with the correct drive paths sda , sdb,sdc

Dealing with changing disks :
If the order of presentation of disk is an issue
Or you want to use multiple disk to be presented as  single video source , add the video source per path

Example

/Nmt/sda2/movies
/Nmt/sdb2/movies
:
:
/Nmt/sdf2/movies

Video source : 64TB movies remux

This way when you update library it will read all disk contents on /movies path , and "merge" them under one video source

I just bought a H8 +, pag gamit ko ung KODI app, may delay ung Audio. But if I run the media player or netflix wala namn. I used all audio source na (LPCM, HDMI and SPDIF) pero delay pag Kodi.

Is it because of the ver 17? If I reinstall Kodi, will the preinstalled apps in Kodi be removed?

thanks

Nung gamit ko ung local file (Via wired LAN and USB) ko, i tried both DTS and AC3 version files, both may delay. then when i tried streaming via EXODUS, ganun pa din, d ko alam kung ano ang audio track nun. pero i tested Dr strange na 1080.

Isip ko first is baka ung soundbar ko ung may issue, so i dineretso ko sa TV, ganun pa din..

Baka the number of core processors in literature misleads you

Which unit has better video quality?  Specifically with playing video files Q5/Q10 have the best image quality of any Android box pero sakin Lang yan ha?

H8 is good, maybe  equivalent to Amlogic S812 / MiniX X8-H

Hisilicon chipset in Q5/Q10  is designed specifically for media boxes and is the best, for me.

Hi! What's the advantage of having a 16gb flash memory over 8gb of Q5? In terms of PQ and SQ,  is the Q5 at par with Q10? And besides the memory, what else are the differences between the Q5 and Q10 pro? Thank you!

Q5 vs q10
Exact specs but  q10  pro has :
Led Display bezel with controls
Top loading for Sata hdd
Coaxial and optical port

Think I posted it also in the marketplace -> FS : Himedia q5 and q10

Unpack at palakpak list: (feel free to edit)
1. Buy Himedia q5 or q10
2. Unpack and connect q5/q10 to wireless or wired network (I prefer wired)
3. Check update and let unit download online or use a USB fat32 stick
4. Click kodi with you disk plugged (plug USB 3 port)
5. Update library by creating video source that stores multiple paths
/sda2/Iso
/sda2/bdmv
/sda2/remux
/sda2/mkv

Video source name :Toys4geeks.32TB

6. Go to the video source and click menu to set content to movies. Keep in mind at this point ensure each move has name (year) format to assist the movie scraper service
7.  update library
8. Backup library to disk

Hi tanong lang mga sirs. Noob talaga ako sa mga techie stuff hehe.

Im comparing this to the unblock tech. Yun white player

Does this have ubtv? Where you can have the tv channels sa korea, hong kong, etc.? Are all these android players the same in terms of these? I just have to install sa menu?

What tv channels does this himedia have?

Another question is about remux or bd iso. Ano yan? Ive been downloading these big files recently. Does it mean when i go into thiese files meron automatic bd menu? Like play movie, scene selection etc?

Thanks a lot

I upgraded my Q10 Pro to the latest firmware with Kodi 17 rc, then updated through the Google Play Store to official Kodi version 17.1 and now almost all streams result in choppy/stuttering playback. I tried downgrading back to Kodi 16 and there are hardly any HD streams available since the providers mostly migrated to Kodi 17.  :(

I was able to improve things by unchcecking "enable hardware acceleration". Though it still doesn't look as fluid as it should be.

It doesn't really matter which one, when hardware acceleration is enabled by default all streams will stutter. Even non-HD streams. Take note I have a 50 mbps fiber connection.

It's a big improvement but still not as smooth as playing a file from my external hard drive using the built in media player. Also in Kodi version 17.1 the buttons of the remote get mixed up. With the Kodi 17.0 Release Candidate okay pa yun remote buttons so I will try to stick with this version muna.

i stayed with Android 5.1 as i await for Kodi to be perfected in the Nougat, then i always I install Amber for kodi interface for consistency when helping in inquiries.

TO INSTALL ANDROID 5.1 FIRMWARE OVER ANDROID 7 FIRMWARE: First install the Q5 Pro or Q10 Pro downgrade firmware, then the latest Android 5.1 firmware.
- Q5 Pro see here:  http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1393.msg10921#msg10921
- Q10 Pro see here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1392.msg10920#msg10920

for your Q10 Pro Download here:

for your Q5 Pro download here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/mdzs65ulqn7l4fp/Q5_PRO_FIRMWARE._1.1.0-FUTEKO-EN._HMD-1.1.0_2017-03-16.202738.zip

Last few Q10 Pro units, new Q5 Pro stocks arrived!! :)

May the 4th (4k) be with you !! ;D

turn on SAMBA service (file share service ) on both units, you should see both in the network. you can later progress to NFS sharing or FTP as SAMBA file transfer service is rather slow between devices

Anya what player do you use when you play HDD files? When I use media player or file manager...and press MENU, I cannot download a subtitle...it says SUBTITLES FOUND 0. However when I use the KODI PLAYER as a media player and watching HDD FILES I can download subtitles. I'm confused! It's a lot easier to use media player and access subtitles by pressing MENU, but it seems not working for me. Any help would be a big help! Thanks!

Dre ,

try mo Rename movie file ng isang title as
Passenger (2016).mkv

Then use file manager (not media Player) to open video file

Then hit Menu Then subtitle download , (IT should pickup file name ) Then search subtitle you should See a lot

The alternatibo is to edit the text that auto fills the search box

i met an av enthusiast a british based in barcelona sa cruise ship.

tama yung obserbasyon nya as he has a himedia too in his cabin.

in a nutshell:

kodi has expert mode and some with auto rename options based on folder names, or rename file name based on folder name

which tidies up the folder and file name for subtitle searches ,  but the flipside is you lose the audio format we find in the native DL

so choose settings wisely

Been curious to try the several updates/mods available in the futeko forum re: Q5/Q10.

Currently the Official FW has the following issues that annoyed me at first:
- HiMedia Player as Wrapper player in Kodi
- Kodi 16.1 for Android 5.1 and Kodi 17.2 for Android 7 is not the latest version.
- 4K HDR videos have aspect ratio resolution issues (code named : "Lucy" problem in the forums)
- HiMedia Player is so boring
- MX Player Pro can be downloaded but does not appear in apps
- Kodi DVD player cannot pass through HD audio sometimes.

So.. to address all of these I found the following mods:
- MX Player Pro replacing HiMedia Player as default player
- Custom Firmware 2.0.1

Now I have:
- a snappier OS,
- MX player is my default player, but library is controlled through Kodi interface
- correct 4K HDR resolution and HD Audio passthrough

HTH!

Yup. Magkaiba yung CFW for Q5 and Q10 PRO. No idea for non Pro models (Q5/Q10 only).

Very detailed yung guides on futeko. And good thing is there is always the option to roll back to the older FW if you don't like it.

I think I have asked this before pero maybe there are new guides, can I change the HDD names(sda1..) to actual HDD names seen in PC? Does the power off mean that the HDDs have been unmounted properly or do I have to unmount all HDDs individually before turning the unit off?

Yup. There's a way pero I don't know how. Because my HDDs appear with their given name na, not their connection/mounting name, now that I'm using the CFW.

ako sir lagi nag eject bago ko turn off ang unit
to eject press menu

would be nice nga sana for renaming the devices or at least show the DISK VOLUME label of each disk .

powering off while on play is risky, so if you are in kodi, i normally quit to the home screen before powering off.

while playing, and i want to power down i stop and go to the homescreen and power off

just to make sure the files are not left open, prior to power down. I dont get those disk checks prompt so far.

CFW 2.0.4 is out on futeko forums.

Major improvement (for my purposes) on HiMedia default player:
Correct Aspect Ratio already on HDR movies.
HD Audio Passthrough is working
Smoother playback.
Better color output on HDR compared to Kodi.

Major issue experienced:
Kodi will not passthrough HD Audio. Audio will work only via PCM and fixed output setting.

Fire up those updates and enjoy HDR content.

Ganda talaga ng Q5Pro when all the hardware is working with the OS.

HTH!

^^you need an iPad app that has support for accessing Samba shares. Because you will configure the NMT as a Network storage.

Has anyone tried to upgrade from android 5.1 to android 7 (2.04 firmware)? If yes can you help me out. It cannot access folders of my Synology NAS via media center via LAN or NFS. Getting Network share error. Need help for those who configured theirs successfully and able to access their NAS.

Kodi seems to access files in my NAS but playing the video is limited to kodi player not via wrapper so not capable of 7.1 audio.

Right now binalik ko na lang muna sa android 5.1.

Maybe try Kodi or VLC, that's what I use for 4k HDR videos on my Mibox international and it displays the correct aspect ratio. Does this only happen on 10bit HDR files? the media center seems to be stretching all videos to fill the screen.

2160p 30hz

parang nakita ko na kung bakit ganun
remux files are 3840x2160
yung 10bit hdr are 3840x1604 (pero all 10bit hdr files same resolution eh)

for 3840x2160 the black bars are encoded to the video itself so for movies with 2.35:1 aspect ration you don't see the thin effect. But if the video is cropped to 3840x1604 (or anything not 16x9 ratio). it will stretch out the video to fill the screen. Your Hi-media doesn't keep the aspect ration I noticed the same thing when playing videos thru the usb port of my TV. But when playing thru Mibox it would keep the aspect ration.

Everybody hello!  ;D

Got the "Himedia Q10 Pro" the other day. Already Nougat out of the box, with the latest Kodi 17.6 Krypton.
Bought this box just mainly for HDR capabilities, Dolby Atmos audio pass-through, and can store large amount of UHD blu-ray files when you load 3.5" Hard Drive on top of it.

Unboxing here...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECRFKop4ejg&t=45s

Video testing here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxLqDCrYVzo

BTW, even MX Player can do Dolby Atmos audio and much preffered video player for me.
So far so good! I'm happy with this box. ;D

kaya nga atmos works , it’s all about software(firmware in this case)

i also like the build over egreat which is more expensive.

egreat is learning sw drives their sales, kaya they put in 4k playback goodies din

Once you've set it up naman, you can just sit back and be amazed with it.

tanung ko lang kung kailangan ko pa gamitin yun scraper kasi manually ko dinadownload yun movie posters online bago ko itransfer galing pc to media player ko. madedetect ba yun mga poster sa media center.  balak ko kasi mag migrate from mede8er to himedia q10 pro.

Bugs and issues..... 1.YouTube only 1080p, pero sideload ka lang ng Youtube tv apk for 4K streaming. .... 2.Minsan pag nag play ako ng 4k hdr file ang bagal ng loading, you have to push the back button then play it smoothly na .....3.Gamit ko ay air mouse remote, minsan pag nag-input ako ng letters ex. password, nag hang cya so I have to pull the power connection. So far yan lang naman ang na-encounter ko. BTW  my current FW is 2.0.6. Hindi pa ako nag FW update.
