Who else watches this? I started watching just halfway last season because of the wife and found it entertaining.
Rooting for the Ateneo Lady Eagles and UP Lady Maroons. :)

After sweeping the eliminations, La Salle probably thought they had it in the bag. If it was NU that they faced in the finals, they probably would have won. But they faced an Ateneo squad that had to go through 3 do-or-die games to be in the finals. Between a team believing it cannot be beaten and a team believing it can come back from any deficit, I believe the psychological advantage is always with the team believing it can come back from any deficit.
Kudos to the coach of La Salle. He never berates his players. Though his voice betrays his exasperation and frustration, he simply tells his players what they need to do and that they can do it.
Congrats Ateneo!

I thought they're already out after feu beating adamson the other day.. UP is fun to watch kaya lang parang puro bata pa..

UP won over UST to ensure at least a tie for 4th place. NU needs to win over DLSU to tie UP for 4th. A knock-out game will determine who gets no.4. But if NU loses to DLSU then UP is no.4 and NU is no.5.
Ateneo won over DLSU in 5 exciting sets. Ateneo gets the no.1 seeding while DLSU is no.2 whether they win or lose to NU in their last game. FEU is no.3.

What a sorry loss for DLSU. After winning game 1 by a sweep, and leading 2 sets to none in the 2nd game, coming back from set point to win the 2nd set, they simply were outplayed by the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the last 3 sets. The winner-take-all game will be Saturday at 3pm.
You could tell coach Ramil de Jesus' frustrations with his players, what with his tone rising every time he called a time out. The big question is whether DLSU would be able to snuff out Ateneo's confidence or not. DLSU had easy wins against Ateneo whenever they had them doubting themselves, but were dominated and lost in the sets of the games where Ateneo's confidence was high. DLSU has the deeper bench but if they cannot control and frustrate Valdez, then they would be in trouble.

The Lady Spikers almost always start well. If they can maintain momentum and hold back Valdez, then they would have a very good chance of winning. They could even overwhelm the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles almost always need to start a rhythm before they start to dominate. If they can find their rhythm early, and their confidence boosted, then they would have a better chance of winning. And we would have, probably another exciting five-setter.

Valdez scored 31 points. Only one other Lady Eagle scored in double digits. Maraguinot scored 10 points. The Lady Spikers had Dy and Baron in double digits with 3 others, Demecillo, Reyes and Galang, scoring 9 points each. Just like in game 1, the Lady Eagles relied too much on Valdez. And when Valdez's attacks were blocked, their confidence started melting away, their movements became tentative and predictable.
Kapag ang kumpiyansa ng Lady Spikers ay tumaas makikita mo ito sa paraan nila ng pagcelebrate ng won points na maaring ituring na "pang-aasar". At pag medyo exaggerated na ang celebratory movements nila, pinapakita na nila ang killer instincts nila.
Dahil si Galang, Reyes at Demecillo lang naman ang gagraduate, dahil nandiyan pa ang mga pamatay nilang blockers na sina Baron at Dy, best setter na Fajardo, at best digger at receiver, pwede nang sabihin na best libero, Dawn Macandili, malamang umulit ang Lady Spikers sa susunod na taon.
At wala pa ring tatalo sa pagcocoach kay Coach Ramil de Jesus kahit na tumataas ang boses niya sa frustration, dahil pagkatapos niyang pagalitan ang player at sabihin ang mali nito, sasabihin naman niya ang dapat gawin. I've never seen him calling a time out just to berate his players. He always tells them what they do wrong and what they need to do right.

^^speaking of coaching, i just wonder how Coach Thai talk to the players. Pag pinapanood ko tuwing technical timeout nila, I can't even understand him. Paano naiintindihan ng players yung play or adjustments na gagawin nila. Through drawboard lang ba or assistant coach/es nalang bahala?

Hopefully Morente will be back next year. Kaya lang malaking kawalan si Valdez and Morente is no Valdez. Ahomiro had already been replaced and will again be replaced by Maddayag. But Tai Bundit will still be coaching via grunts, motions, "be happy" and "heart strong".
