Hi, Tanong ko lang kung meron na bang available na media player designed to play audio formats only. Yun bang same size din sya ng standard cd or dvd player to add to your audio components. May USB or SD Card slot to play all audio formats like MP3 and can connect our ipod/iphone as a source. May built-in display din sa harap to navigate yung files and standard port sa likod like optical out and 2 RCA jack for analog out para i-connect sa Integrated amp.
As far as I know kasi, NMT lang pwede to play media formats but this is designed to play video formats. And most of NMT's are designed so small and no built-in display to navigate even just the music files. Kailangan mo p rin magbukas ng TV para makita mo files mo kahit music lang ang gamit mo.

If you have budget, you can look at Cocktail Audio or Olive. They have local distributors. Audio Amplified for the Cocktail Audio. Audio Manila - 'redline_xp' for the Olive.

Thanks sir JoeyGS. It seems both brands are way too high for my budget. I'm just looking for player kahit na walang network at storage capability basta may built-in display, good sound quality and mas maganda sana same size ng cd player ang case nya.

Ano ba features you look for for MP audio only? - mp3 and flac, bluetooth , displays Artist track, etc while on play playlist.
Is stereo or multichannel support important for this function?

If you have a laptop, you can just get a usb DAC like the Musiland to turn it into an audiophile music server.
And if you have any android or apple phone/tablet, you may use this as remote control. Very convenient na makinig ng music. Hindi ka na kailangan tumayo from the sweet spot to change songs. :)

or a logitech squeezebox touch?

Yup, using laptop as a music source is very easy to setup... like what Billabong said, USB dac lang ang katapat..

Don't get me wrong, I'm in a software engineering field, so I'm in front of a computer all day. That is precisely the reason why I don't want using PC or laptop, for that matter, for these kind of things. When at home, I just want to relax and spend my time with the family and not on tinkering on a computer. ;)

Stereo (2-channel) rca ang output para direct connection na to your pre-amp or integrated amp. :)
For multi-channel use, may optical out yung Musiland to connect to your A/V receiver.

Been using a toshiba laptop, turn the computer on which has jriver set to auto play. Then I close the lid and if I want to change a song or playlist I use my ipad.... Seems very simple, but you do have to set it up....... Like servers.
Tinkering the initial playlist, I would rather see it on a 17" screen (my laptop) than on a 5" to 7" screen (malabo na kasi mata ko), though I can aslo make them on my ipad sitting on a comfy chair from a distance.
It is a choice of course you have to make and find out.

How about airport express? Play your tunes via airplay from your itunes, ipod, iphone, ipad.

If Media/NMT talaga direction niyo then go to HMR or any surplus shop for the tv may mga 3-4K dun na maliit LCD tvs for monitor purpose of the mediaplayer, then stereo out muna ng media player punta amp, later na add ng DAC in between if budget permits. Just me....

Kung maypc laging on kayo ( yun mga nag totorent) or media server , ok talaga yun squeezebox .
Less than 4k depende na lang sa dac na gagamitin mo as long as willing kayo mag diy ng squeezebox replacement at gamit mong remote is your smartphone ..

I have already thought of that before, pero kung may mabibili na meron ng built-in bakit pa magsesetup ng ganyan? ;)
Actually, sa ngayon madalas ako nagplay ng music files via the AVR. Pero since I also have a setup in the bedroom, and no AVR there (and I dont want to buy a new one kasi no budget), kaya ang naiisip ko lang ay media player with built-in display to browse through the music files.

scrolling also accross album in a folder is difficult given the size of the display pero nothing file management can fix.
display lang ang kalaban, mukang scrolling text lang. sana man lang yung parang 40 characters x 2 lines to show file, artist/title kahit scrolling.

Hahaha hindi naman masyado, kung pede lang naman. Pero ang hanap ko lang talaga e yung parang yun capability ng mga AVR ngayon without the AMP ;D
USB, Network, Title display (hindi naman kelangan masyadong detailed basta madaling magbrowse, kuntento nga ako sa 2 liner display ng AVR ko eh ;D), kung IPOD capable ok din hehe, tapos kung may AM/FM bonus na yun.

Depende really how much you want it or can spend for it . Yun multi room setup ko on another tread is an example . But that may not be what you are looking for .

Finally had a little time after working on the HT ..
The discussions here perked my curiosity of what can be done using existing resources ..So here is my stand alone media player for Audio . I had all the components on hand , it was just the right mix of software to install .
Essentially a standalone headless squeezebox player , but this time the server (LMS) is also on the same device

i use to have sansa clip+ rockboxed and its one of the best audio player i ever heard on its pricepoint.and btw i can even play high bandwidth(24/192h) FLAC that my cowon j3 cannot play :) :) :)

Thanks, Sonny. This will be just for our dining room where my wife likes to work online. I plan to surprise her with a Sakura AV200T setup. So I'm not looking at an audiophile's dream system. Something that's decent and works.
Am actually building the hall table and speaker stands (for wharfe 9.1) now.

Seems you need background music that won't need banking brader, you can use the ipod and use mp3 instead of flac. These format wars really affect the most revealing of systems for one to distinguish. Save the money and use what you have. It should be fine...

Paano mo ginawa sir? pwede bang dual display yan? I also would want to do this. I have an NMT connected to the AVR via HDMI. Ayoko i on an pj pag mag music. I don't listen to a lot of music naman pag may inuman lang. For some reason I have a lot of FLAC files. I tried to look for an app that's UnPP or DLNA that will also serve as a remote but to no avail. Found some pero walang playlist, or even continuous playing. Every song kelangan mo i play one at a time.

Yes sir. It is on sale only till stock lasts. Bagay yan sa 125SX mo even without the preamp. I used the headphone output ng Musiland 01 para malakas ang current. Try mo sir. Bring your amp sa ating mga suking dealers. Magiging iba ang resolution ng system mo without the preamp.

Then yun analog video coaxial output (yellow RCA output) ng NMT goes to the analog coaxial (yellow) input ng 7" CDRking monitor. Hassle lang yun power wires and rca wire when you move the 7" monitor so make sure na bundled properly and manipis ang power ang RCA wire na gamit mo.You won't be requiring HD display naman while viewing your music files kaya ok na ang resolution ng 480p analog output ng NMT.

Install "Na remote for PCH" app to your android cellphone in order for you to browse your music files in your hdd without turning on your tv. The pro version is better, but I am ok (for now) with the free version. I find this better than the NMJ app and PCH remote app.

Not sure if it falls under this. But I got an Oppo 103D player. While it is labelled as a bluray player, I use it as a media player since I don't own bluray content.
I plug my external hard drive with music (encoded in lossless FLAC format from my cd collection), so I can control what I'm playing through my TV because it will display in the screen.
Once I have decided what to listen to, the player has a "pure audio" switch which turns off the display to make the circuitry work mainly on the sound for a cleaner signal.
The Oppo has a Cirrus Logic DAC which is also used by some top receivers like Marantz, etc, and the stereo quality is really good. The 105D has an even better DAC but costs a lot more also.
So that is really my way to play media files through an external hard drive to produce great music.

a few pointers lang baka makatulong:
best guess, red is +12V. can't be so sure though. Black is 99% ground. :-\
look for 12V regulator (IC/transistor AN7812, MC7812, LM78L12, LM2940, etc). 1 pin would lead to the +12V line.
also, the biggest value capacitor is most likely for the +12V line.
shielded wires would indicate video lines, and audio if it has built in speakers. once you trace the 12v wires pwede na test video in on any other wire.

Ayun! thanks for this :) I can see my files from the Mede8er but when i select an audio file it just playes in my phone. nag stream lang to my phone. is there anyway that i can use this as remote and play through my audio system that my mede8er is connected?

You can load your music in the HDD (internal or external) of the NMT. Cut & copy lang bro parang PC. Para siyang Olive music player. Then you can connect the NMT via coax or toslink (SPDIF) sa iyong external DAC. Most media players don't have balanced outputs. Kung gagamitin mo ang RCA, you will be using the internal DAC of the media player but knowing your ears, baka hindi mo ma-appreciate.

Correct si Nelson on all points. Just to add from my research on this:
I selected yung Mede8er MED1000X3D for several factors:
- No fan so very silent
- You can store all your music files in an internal hard disk or a network drive like WD MyBookWorld (so shared with other X3D players in the house)
- Various music file formats although I prefer FLAC since it doesn't work with Apple Lossless
- Can play 24-bit 192khz files, i.e. HDtracks.com
- Supports 4TB internal drive so I'm sure kasya buong CD collection mo
- Has an optional iPad/iPhone app that serves as your remote and jukebox player
- HDMI, Coax and Optical outputs
- Bonus that it has various internet streaming video and audio services
- And I can move it to my home theater setup and use it as a video player na rin!!!
Sulit siya so far for P6,500 (800X3D) or P7,500 (1000X3D)

JjohnC, you can use the Oppo as a media player. Just plug the USB drive with your music files on the Oppo and connect to you DAC through COAX, Optical, or even balanced connector(105). The Oppo plays all the formats so far. If you do not want to turn on your TV you can use your iphone or ipad as the remote control just download the Oppo media from the Oppo site.
