Title: Roku owners
Post by: anchit on Jan 17, 2014 at 10:08 PM
Any roku owners here?

My Roku 3 arrived a couple of days ago, subscribed to Unblock-US and Netlfix and its now giving me sleepless nights! Quality of video depends o the capacity of your broadband, so far I am getting HD quality. I am yet to check other channels like HBO Go and Hulu Plus, so far I am very amazed with this very small but very capable device.

Roku 3 on top of my ever reliable Egreat R6s- maliit na yung R6 ha, pero mas maliit pa din ng di hamak yung Roku

sakin sir Router--> Roku--> Netflix

I just set up my Router to have the supplied DNS ng Unblok-US, then set up Netlfix account first before turning the Roku player on then link them, that's it. I tried it with my xbox pero mas mataas ang cost kasi apart sa Netflix at vpn kelangan pa ng xbox gold live subscription, also tried it with my VT60 tv pero I cant change the Region of my TV kaya di ma-DL ang Netflix.

Korek sir, nagtya tyaga lang muna ako sa Unlocked Episodes. Medyo marami rami naman yung episodes nung mga popular shows nila na na access ko, so no complain here so far :)

Sir Nelson,
Yung PLDT-DSL namin sa bahay is 5-MBPS plan.
Kapag wala akong torrent DL walang buffer yung HD TV series or movies na pinapanood namin.
Pero kapag may torrent DL ako na around 600kbps ang DL speed, ayun gapang si Roku, hehehe ;D

Naku kuntento na ko sa speed ko ngayon.
I won't pay more than 10K a month for that 50mbps speed para lang hindi magLAG yung video streaming ng ROKU ;D :P

pre yes, double cost ka sa Xbox- apart sa Netflix at DNS, bayad kappa sa live gold subscription mo. I initially wanted to go that route pero di ko tinuloy.

Thanks for sharing this titor. I recently added channels available at Roku website which i haven't explored all yet but it's nice to know i can still add more thru private channels.

Btw, my set up is PLDT fiber ONU Modem 8Mbps (Bridge mode)--> Extreme (on Unblock US) --> Roku 3. I'm still on the 7day free trial from Unblock us but will eventually subscribe.

@ Anchit    Medyo OT: Same here, di ko rin ma-setup yung LG 3D smart tv to download the Netflix app and try to change Region. So yun pala yun. I can browse my Netflix account sa web browser ng TV but worn't play any movie. Pandora is working so i know connected yung TV sa Unblock US.

Heto yung mga madalas ko na ginagamit na tingin ko hindi kelangan ng US IP:

CNET
Youtube
Pandora
News

Sir if you wont really get a US IP, baka pwede na yung Roku Stick sayo, its cheaper, 49usd lang.

A bit risky since you need to flash your router. I tried it and bricked it. bye bye... easiest way is to buy a dd-wrt router. but fyi hindi roku gamit ko i wanted to watch netflix using my ipad. but it should be the same (i think)

I bought a Roku 3 (c/o Sir Oreoshake), and I'm waiting for it to arrive here, I'll provide updates on how everything works out. As a safety measure, I've successfully blocked the DNS servers that Roku is known to access on my Linksys-Cisco router (keeping my fingers crossed).

I'm already subscribed to Unblock-us, and so far OK naman yung experience namin with watching Netflix, Hulu, PBS, etc. over iPad and Laptop.

I'll be getting my Roku 3 in a week or two, I'll keep you posted by then. :)

Same here. We have Netflix Canada that sucks so I prefer US Netfllix. I can access US Netflix thru VPN via PC. Di ko alam kung paano i-tweak yong ISP supplied fiber optic router na diretso makaconnect sa US netflix without using VPN thru PC. Any tip how to DIY your router would be very much appreciated.

BTW, Roku 3 owner here and bought it just to watch 3ABN religious channel.

  • Makaka tipid ba talaga ako?  I plan to disconnect my Sky Dual Def (~1.2k monthly).  Will use Roku for movies, NBA, US TV shows, etc, and rely on ABS CBN Blackbox for my local channels.  Pero I need to subscribe to VPN, and NBA League Pass.  I may need to subscribe to Netflix pa, or other services.  Hindi kaya ako mapa-mahal?
  - Tama, mapapamahal ka. NGA league pass, Hulu, HBO, ESPN Netflix, lahat yan nasa 12dollars per month.
  • I'm also worried about bandwidth.  I'm already on Fibr, but baka ma affect ang Roku viewing ko when others start using the internet.  Malakas pa naman mag YouTube mga anak ko.  I was thinking of setting aside 10Mbps for the Roku sa QOS nang router.
- kayang kaya, ako madalas 2 kameng naka Netflix, naka youtube etc kaya naan ng cable internet ditto na 10mbps.
  • Lastly, yung mga Netflix movies ba discreet 5.1 ba?  If stereo lang ang mga Roku content, medyo deal breaker for me.  I also want to rely on Roku for movies, to reduce my HDD/torrent use.
- hindi pa ako nakakasubok kasi wala akong set up ditto sa OZland.
[/list]
Sana mag maka sagot.  Thanks.

Mukha ngang dapat Roku binili mo brader. Chromecast is taga bato lang naman ng content ng phone mo to your tv. At least Roku stick, kesa Chromecast.

yes sir, it can pass through Atmos over HDMI ... I have both an Ultra and Premiere Plus ... both models can pass through Atmos signals ... yung main difference lang na nakikita ko is mas responsive yung Ultra and have more internal memory - yung Premiere Plus would require you to have an SD card if you are installing a lot of apps/channels ... been using the device for probably 2 years, very satisfied

only drawback ng mga Roku's is the battery life of the remote - make sure to have spare batteries on standby ... option is use a mobile app for remote

I have a couple of Roku devices at home.  As long as you have Smart DNS configured with the region of the apps you plan to use pointed at the right country, Roku would work.  I used to have my Hulu, SlingTV, and Pluto TV setup on Roku, but with the advent of IPTV's, Netflix, and Disney+, I stopped using my Roku's and are just sitting idle at home.

was given a Roku stick recently. got nothing showing on it but Netflix and Youtube. Can't get any other apps installed like HBO, Disney+ etc....

after ko ma-enable ang developer option nawalan na din ako gana to explore pa how i can sideload apps. its too restricted and outclassed by other streaming devices.
