Professor Zoom and Killer Frost Race to The CW’s The Flash
SILAS LESNICK JAN 24, 2014 Two more have joined the cast of The CW's proposed "Arrow" spinoff, "The Flash." Deadline reports that Rick Gosnett ("The Vampire Diaries") and Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) are set to star as Central City Police Detective Eddie Thawne and S.T.A.R. Labs bioengineer Caitlin Snow, respectively.The Thawne character is set to be a slightly renamed take on DC Comics' Eobard Thawne, the man who later becomes Professor Zoom/Reverse Flash.
Snow, meanwhile, is better known in the current continuity as the alternate identity of the ice-powered villainess Killer Frost.Already set to star Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and Jesse L. Fresh off the heels of the announcement that Candice Patton has been cast as Iris West in The CW's "Arrow" spin-off "The Flash," Variety now reports that Broadway actor Carlos Valdes has been cast as "mechanical engineering genius" Cisco Ramon. That name might ring some bells to some readers as Cisco Ramon goes on to become the superhero Vibe. It's unclear if Ramon will retain his super powers in the upcoming series, but after Allen's transformation in "Arrow" it stands to reason that more super-powered folk will begin popping up.
The remainder of the cast for the upcoming pilot includes Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Jesse L. Martin as Iris's father Detective West, Rick Gosnett as Central City Police Detective Eddie Thawne and Danielle Panabaker as S.T.A.R. Labs bioengineer Caitlin Snow.

Original The Flash Star John Wesley Shipp Joins The CW’s New SeriesThe cast of The CW's upcoming DC Comics-inspired series "The Flash" is rapidly assembling with the latest addition being John Wesley Shipp, the star of the 1990 live action series of the same name. Shipp's character is being a kept a secret, but he is said to have been cast in a recurring role.

Yeah. His head looks like a martian. Also the absence of the "wing" accessory by the ears and going for the "flat" lightning bolt emphasized the actors seemingly large head with that angle.

Now the above set of pics looks better. I actually like the costume. Arrow based costumes are always based on the notion that would it fly in reality. The burgundy color is subtle enough to not be too loud and ridiculous. And it also doesn't come across as too goofy.
My question would then be does it shoot out from his ring? ;D

awesome extended trailer!.... and, yes, the costume needs improvement, but still liked the over all feel of the series (base on the trailer... crossing my fingers), baka madala na ng story yung costume... pwede na rin hehe ;)

i still don't like the costume, but the effects really look cool ... and again, if you've read and followed The Flash comics, big deviation on the comics story - Flash alter ego was very secret in the comics, Barry Allen that is (not Wally West) ... in the trailer, he had a team supporting him who knows his secret identity ... and what i don't like is that the character is again like a Clark Kent - weakling transformed, similar to what they did to Peter Parker ... Parker was no weakling nerd like Clark's character, he was just broke ... Barry Allen, was no weakling nerd either in the comics

i just watched it ... leak nga, meron nakalagay na for promotional purposes, but it's complete and quality is good (720p mp4 format) ... yung lumabas na father nya ay yung The Flash during the 80's ... big deviation though from the comics version of Barry Allen - parang mix na character ni Barry and Wally West ... based on the pilot, this is one good series to look forward to

1. About the costume - The writers and creative staff of the show are aware of the "real costume" of the Flash as seen at the end of the episode. So what we are seeing is definitely a prototype costume.
2. Bats & Arrow - From the same article shown at the end, another headline read.... Wayne Tech & Queen Inc. companies agree to merger. Or somewhere along those lines.

Robbie Amell Joins The Flash Cast as Half of Firestorm

TV Line reports Robbie Amell (cousin to Oliver Queen himself, Stephen Amell) has been cast as Ronnie Raymond for “The Flash.” Raymond will serve as a S.T.A.R. Labs maintenance worker who is engaged to Danielle Panabaker’s Caitlin Snow and reportedly plays an integral part in the accident that gives Barry Allen his powers.
In the source material, Ronnie Raymond is one half of the superhero Firestorm, who he becomes upon fusing together with his partner. The character has some of the most complex and unique powers in the DCU as he’s capable of transforming matter into other elements in addition to superhuman strength and flight. It’s unclear if he’ll take on the role of Firestorm in the series, though the irony of him being engaged to Caitlin Snow (the future Killer Frost) is a nice touch.

I just browsed through it, having already watched the leaked version previously ... I've noticed some inserts of the "The Flash" title (likely spaces for commercials), and not sure if it was in the leaked version, but I noticed in the damaged Starlabs facility a damaged caged with the name of Grodd - the ape would likely make an appearance later in the season

It was the simplest way to have a "plausible" explanation for the villain of the week that Barry (or Clark) would face every episode. Para di na kailangan gumawa ng origin story for every super powered villain. It was a problem they didn't have to worry about in Arrow.
But yeah, they probably took their cue from Smallville.

problem before with Smallville is that they overused it ... and what could be an issue here is that they would alter the origins of the villains, like the weather master

That is really the last name of Iris in the comics (but she was not African-American though, and Barry was already his husband when he turned into the Flash) ... in the comics, that's only the foster father of Iris - she and her parents were from the future

Yes--Professor Zoom was responsible for the Flashpoint event in the comics, which eventually led to the DC Comics universe being altered into the present New 52 timeline.

Also just saw the teaser for Episode 4: Captain Cold's debut and an Arrow crossover. I don't watch Arrow (not yet) and just have a general idea of the show. Hope that won't be too much of a problem.

If you use the comics as reference, Wells probably is Professor Zoom who came from the 25th C. He is an obsessed fan of the Flash. He most likely knows the origin of the Flash in every detail. So he knew Barry's psychological make up as an adult started with his mother's murder. The father was spared so that he becomes the fall guy for the murder. Then Wells wants Barry to go through every event for him to become the Flash and that no other person must interfere. Or else Wells kills them. And about Dr. Wells, he probably did get injured and put in a wheel chair after the particle accelerator blew. So the fact that he can walk meant that his injuries healed in an accelerated pace same as Barry suggesting he is indeed Eobard Thawne or the Referse-Flash.

In the comics, there were several instances that the reverse flash came back in time, one time was to kill Iris Allen ... one time was to search for Barry Allen because Barry was his idol and he wanted to meet him - Barry was already dead at that time though and Wally West was the Flash ... Reverse Flash' usual weapon to kill is to vibrate his hands and penetrate the skull of his victim, and this is what he did to Iris ... i would assume that this tv series is one of those times that the reverse flash time travelled

He did the thing with the voice though indicating he has "Flash" powers. Let's see how Wells heals from his injuries in the next episode. Also Geoff Johns is behind the show who is the utmost comic book geek. He would want the show to be as accurate as the comic book. Thus I tend to think he wouldn't do a short cut when it comes to the Flash mythos. That's the reason why I hesitate to think Eddie is RF. It's not really comic book accurate.

Sounds cheesy but very plausible since "Thawne" was the surname of one of the incarnations of the Reverse Flash... also, there's some foreshadowing since Det. Thawne did wonder why "it" did not kill him. Maybe Wells created the suit and the future Det. Thawne is using it.

It may also mean that Eddie Thawne was not killed because if RF killed him, he will be killing his great great great grandfather and RF will cease to exist. What it practically showed us though is that RF is most probably a Thawne one way or the other.

sa comics, those 2 would usually setup traps, and would have other circumstances (such as getting someone hostage) that prevents Flash from simply taking them head-on ... dito sa series, they simply went head-on against the Flash with their weapons, kaya corny

Kahit sa first appearance ni Capt Cold, there was this security guard who was already pointing his gun at the villain, but decided to run away when the latter "threatened" him. Like duh!

I remember a Justice League Unlimited episode na kalaban ata nila si Lex Luthor. The Flash ran so fast na dun nya lang nadiscover ang Speed Force.
Right now, medyo comparable ang speed ni TV Flash to Marvel's Quicksilver.

this episode he runs up to piedpiper and disarms him easily which he could have also easily done to cold/heatwave.
Like I said it is not inconsistent writing. I suppose you only caught a glimpse of the episode and not the whole show. The Flash disarmed the villain easily both by design and intent because he deliberately let Flash do just that. Twice at that pa nga.
The first, Pied Piper actually wanted to get caught and be confined in STAR Labs. So he deliberately let Flash disarm him so he could be brought immediately to STAR Labs so he can hack into their computer systems. The second, he also deliberately let the Flash once again disarm him to trigger the sonic soundwave of his gloves to incapacitate and eventually kill the Flash. Both times it was a set up.

Episode 14 was a pretty good one. Liked how they completed the Firestorm origin storyline - a metahuman hero for a change. The Flash will surely need his help again at some point in this season. Weird lang that, after being rescued and learning how to control the Firestorm merging process, Prof. Stein wasn't at all bothered that Dr. Wells drugged him earlier ???
Also don't know where they're going with the Gorilla Grodd storyline. Maybe it's a set-up for next season.

I think Laurel is actually the prettiest she has been this season. Last season sobrang payat. Siguro blonde talaga ang natural sa kanya. But the mask nga lang doesn't really compliment her face.

I don't think real time naman yun ginagamit. Malamng the events sa Flash in the last episode happened before last week's episode on Arrow and not the finale. Yun favor na hiningi ni Ollie was displayed etong finale. So I would guess yun order would be this last episode of Flash...then last week's Arrow...then the Arrow finale.

That was an awesome season finale! Sabi na nga ba't bitin, pero okay lang. :) Have a lot of questions about the effects of time travel on the storyline, but I'd rather not lose sleep about it. :) But I really like how they handled Barry's dilemma about changing the past and how Eddie redeemed himself.

To be fair though, Arrow was outstanding during it's initial season run up until the second season. While the Flash is absolutely a comic book reader's dream, I have a feeling the writer's went all out story-wise in the first season and there's nowhere to go but down. it would really be tough to top season 1 especially if they do not bring back the reverse Flash in the future ... i've been reading The Flash comics since the 70's, and the peaks of the story always comes when the reverse Flash gets involved .. the best probably was when the reverse Flash returned in time and took over Barry's identity as Barry already died from the series Crisis on Infinite Earths

Last year was sort of really about getting the band together, in a way, and Barry, his first initial steps into being The Flash. This year it’s really like, “OK. Great. We’re doing it now.” What does that mean?
I think one of the biggest things that we’re sort of tackling this year which is very different from any of the other shows we’ve done is [public perception] about The Flash. He’s becoming a public figure. The notion that [these people] live in a universe where people have superpowers, and there are evil people with superpowers, and you could be walking down the street and somebody could melt the building in front of you is not outlandish anymore. By the same token, they all know that there’s a savior out there who has powers to fight them back. So watching Barry deal with the fact that he’s becoming a little bit famous and he’s not just the mysterious red streak is something that gets dealt with a lot in newer episodes.
There’s definitely going to be more Rogues. We don’t sit down and say how many characters do we dump into this? It’s like: What can we do for the characters that we have? And when we bring somebody on, it’s not just to bring a character on. It’s to: how is that character coming in going to affect and change and help our characters grow?

I just watched season 1 of the Flash..I like the story line..there is one thing I don't like..or two things..the actor of Barry Allen and the character of Iris West..I really don't like the acting of Barry Allen..exaggerated for me esp when he acts confused,desperate and when his eyebrows meet and puppy look lol..sarap tadyakan hehe..to the character of Iris West..ikaw na..un lang..masyado pa importante din..hehe

I like the character of Iris pero don't like how it is acted though. ang bilib ako kay Cisco at Caitlin. Parang natural lahat ng jargons kapag sila nagexplain ng scientific stuff.

they ought to change the opening monologue to "my name is barry allen and i am the fastest idiot alive..." then start crying.

maganda yung finale and the episode before it. sana ginawa na lang nilang 10-12 episodes per season. kinda loss interest kasi sa mga middle episodes parang pinapahaba lang ang season ala pinoy teleserye.

I guess a problem with the Arrow-verse is that they burned through a lot of their comic book villains in one-off episodes during the first seasons. Nauubusan na yata so for the succeeding seasons, they have to use villains as big-bads and drag the confrontation for like 23-24 episodes each.

Pinilit ko lang tapusin yung last season. I tried watching the current season, pero parang di ko na kayang panoorin. Ewan ko ba why this show insists on having Barry as a dramatic hero. And yes, I still can't stand the Iris character. :)
Another Arrowverse show I may stop watching. I already dropped Batwoman (half of season 1) and Supergirl (2 seasons ago).

But Flash is my favorite DC character and I need to have my Flash fix. And last year, watched Legends of Tomorrow just for Constantine (only the ones with him)... At least they somewhat wrapped up Constantine season 1.

Medyo natitiis ko pa dati, hehe, though I often found myself cringing and/or rolling my eyes a lot for the past 2 or 3 seasons na. LoT, I still watch because it's more action comedy than a superhero show.
This whole DC Arrowverse is really terrible to say the least. Ang layo talaga sa ganda ng mga Marvel TV.
In fairness, I thought the first season of Arrow was pretty solid.

Try Superman and Lois. It's the best show under the Arrowverse.

The weakness of Arrowverse is having 20 to 24 episodes per season so they end up with a lot of filler episodes or otherwise, the "heroes" end up losing for the better part of the 24 episode run until the inevitable win by the last episode.

‘The Flash’ to End With Abbreviated Season 9 on The CW
It’s official: The Flash’s upcoming ninth season will be its last.
The CW on Monday announced that its Grant Gustin-led DC Comics superhero drama from Warner Bros. TV and Greg Berlanti Productions will end with a 13-episode final run. The conclusion of one of the network’s most watched shows will air in 2023 as part of its midseason roster. Production on the final season will begin next month.
News that The Flash is coming to its end has been widely speculated since before the ninth season was officially announced as part of The CW’s early renewals in March. The series was poised to end with season eight, but both the network and studio were able to ink leading man Gustin and co-stars including Candice Patton to new deals.
With the formal finale set for The Flash, the series joins fellow Warner Bros. TV-produced drama Riverdale as series ending in the 2022-23 season. The conclusion of both shows comes amid The CW’s reduced volume of scripted originals as the younger-skewing network is on the sale block, with station group Nexstar near a deal to buy it from owners Warner Bros. TV and CBS Studios.
