Title: Gotham
Post by: AshKetchum on Feb 07, 2014 at 10:44 AM
In a surprise move, FOX has placed a straight-to-series order for Gotham, instead of the usual TV pilot order. Based on DC Comics' Batman franchise, Gotham will chronicle the early days of James Gordon on the Gotham City Police force. The original concept was just to focus on Gordon, but now the series will include a kid version of Bruce Wayne.

Gotham was created by Bruno Heller, who also serves as the series' executive producer along with Danny Cannon, who is scheduled to direct the pilot. The series is expected to debut later this year on FOX.

No definite cast has been announced, but it was revealed that Donal Logue was offered the part of Harvey Bullock.

So parang agents of shield?
Meaning - A series that spawned from the avengers, without the avengers.
This time a series based off the batman, without the batman.
Let's see how well this does.

Ang pagkakaintindi ko more of Smallville.  Yun official synopsis before the series finale would see Bruce Wayne wearing the cowl and cape.  But instead of Bruce Wayne's POV...ke Gordon lang.

Fox's Gotham Casts Oswald Cobblepot, Alfred Pennyworth and More

Following their announcement this weekend that "Southland" star Ben McKenzie will play James Gordon in their upcoming series "Gotham," Fox and Warner Bros. Television have announced the casting of four more characters for the show.

Robin Lord Taylor (Accepted, "The Walking Dead") joins the cast as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin). His character is described as follows: With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

Sean Pertwee (Alan Partridge, Event Horizon) will appear as Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Pertwee's Alfred appears to be taking some cues from Geoff Johns comic "Batman: Earth One" as he's described as follows: A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.

The series has also cast Zabryna Guevara ("Burn Notice") as Gordon's boss at the GCPD, Captain Essen, and Erin Richards ("Being Human", "Merlin") as Gordon's fiancee, Barbara Kean.

Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer on the series. Danny Cannon ("CSI," "Nikita") will direct and executive produce the pilot.

Donal Logue Cast as Harvey Bullock in Fox's Gotham Series
Source: Warner Bros. Television
February 12, 2014

Fox and Warner Bros. Television have announced that Donal Logue ("Terriers," "Sons of Anarchy") has been cast as Harvey Bullock in their upcoming series "Gotham." Originally rumored for a different role in the series, Logue's Bullock is described as Jim Gordon’s partner and mentor. The rough-around-the-edges detective plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results … and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.

Jada Pinkett Smith Cast as Gangster Fish Mooney in Fox's Gotham
Source: Warner Bros. Television
February 19, 2014

Warner Bros. Television and Fox have announced that Jada Pinkett Smith has been cast in their comic-inspired series "Gotham" as the gangster Fish Mooney. An original character in the series, Mooney is described as follows: "A sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, Fish Mooney’s got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed."

That name may sound familiar, but not because it originated in DC Comics' classic titles, but because the previously-released character description for Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin mentioned that he in fact works for Mooney.

Fox’s Gotham Gets Its Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle
March 4, 2014

Warner Bros. Television and Fox have announced two new additions to their upcoming series "Gotham" which include 13-year-old "Touch" actor David Mazouz as the young Bruce Wayne and Camren Bicondova as the teenage Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman).

For the series, Bruce is described as "not a playboy-by-day, vigilante-by-night, but a preteen who has been sentenced to a solitary life after his parents' tragic murders," while Selina is described as "a teen orphan who is suspicious and wholly unpredictable. A skilled pickpocket and street thief, [she] is pretty dangerous when cornered."

Official Synopsis:

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world's greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon's story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world's most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

"Gotham" is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), "Gotham" follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City's surrounding suburbs, James Gordon (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards, Open Grave, “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Terriers,” “Vikings,” “Copper”), as the two stumble upon the city's highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes' hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David Mazouz, “Touch”), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy's profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham's criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith, The Matrix films, “HawthoRNe,” Collateral), and many of the characters who will become some of fiction's most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor, “The Walking Dead,” Another Earth).

Although the crime drama will follow Gordon's turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara, “Burn Notice”), it also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred (Sean Pertwee, "Camelot," “Elementary”). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he's destined to be.

Smith has a guest role in the pilot, with options to become a recurring or regular character in the series.

You got three correct, and was also right about the Joker; while you can't see it clearly in the pic I posted, the hi-res version of the image has a playing cards sign on top of the middle building, with the first card being the Joker.

The other easter egg is the poison ivy vine creeping up the wall behind Harvey Bullock's right shoulder.

But that scene really is the focal point where all Batman-related stories start. The difference is that the focus is not on Bruce Wayne but on the other characters who would be associated with Batman later on. I'll be following this.

I would actually have written it differently. Maybe make that scene the season ender?

As I understand it, this should be pre-Batman Begins so I would probably have wanted to see a deeper back story prior to the mugging.

none, I'm afraid...it's mostly procedurals, and I don't like Chicago P.D. and Blue Bloods, and the upcoming Gracepoint seems to focus on one case, so the choices are nil.

Southland was a true loss, really.

Not sure if this is a good idea. I would have stuck with a 16-episode season or less. They might end up slowing down the series too much or maybe run out of useful material, like jumping the shark by season 3.

What Game of Thrones and many like it have shown is that less is actually more. True Blood,  meanwhile shows that running out of viable material is a real issue to consider.

Yeah, a shorter run would be best. Am still loving this show though, and the way Gotham City looks is almost the same as it's depicted on DC Universe Online.

I'm a bit annoyed at Wayne Manor though--it's supposed to be a huge estate, but it looks like it has only one room where Bruce reads, eats, and even sleeps, LOL. And does he even go to school?  ::)

I'm really enjoying the second season of Gotham, particularly since they decided to go the crazy, cartoony, and extremely violent free-for-all route. The current arc was great, with noteworthy performances and snappy one-liners. Cameron Monaghan makes a compelling proto-Joker, and hell, even Barbara, who was the worse character on the show, has become interesting.

Morena Baccarin is always lovely to look at, and she was stunning in this week's episode...lucky Ben McKenzie.

Gotham is adapting the 1999 comics storyline of "Batman: No Man's Land", which will see the titular city rocked with a cataclysmic 7.6 magnitude earthquake as the current season heads into the finale.

executive producer Danny Canon stated: "The catastrophic event that happens in the last three episodes not only will change Gotham, not only combines so many characters that you don’t think will cooperate with each other, but it changes the face of Gotham forever, so that season five will almost be a reboot and a different show."

...I'm still watching and enjoying this, as the series has finally embraced its own craziness.

From ComingSoon.Net

Gotham Season 5 Will be the Series’ Last

FOX today announced it has given the green light to Gotham Season 5 and also revealed it will the series’ last season. “The fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told,” FOX said in a statement.

Although the network has not announced how many episodes the fifth season will have, it is believed to be a shorter, 13-episode season which would take the show to the 100-episode mark needed for syndication. The final season will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the caped crusader.

whew...was worried there for a minute, since I like this show's nonstop craziness. At least they get to finish off their planned storyline.  ;D

I read in another website, it was renewed but it's the final season. So definitely Bruce will suit up as Bats.  Pero parang it is still too early.  Payatot pa yun bida.

Yung finale last season, Bruce was already in a mask, and stopping criminals.  They probably thought they were getting cancelled, kaso na-renew, nawala na ulit si proto-Batman..

Yup, next season is the final season; they originally planned to adapt the No Man's Land storyline for the entire  S5 as a result of the changes wrought by the earthquake in this week's season finale, but they might change it if they'll be limited to fewer episodes for this final season.

Let's see how they pull this off.  Right now, the actor playing Bruce looks too soft to be a convincing Batman.

Two words: "Time jump"  ;D

They also said Gordon will have facial hair, and it looks like it's gonna happen, as Ben McKenzie was seen sporting it when he attended the premiere of his wife Morena Baccarin's movie, Deadpool 2:

It was a bit disappointing when they didn't do the earthquake in the season finale--they just blew up the bridges--ah well, it's probably too expensive to do and they've got a limited number of episodes to shoot.
