Title: LG TV Line-up 2014
Post by: dm1179 on Apr 27, 2014 at 09:37 AM
CES 2014 was quite a show for LG. They had everything people had hoped for; new OLED TVs, new 4K TVs, a much improved Smart TV platform, and aggressive plans to make everything available to consumers. For the first time in a decade, LG looked like the bigger brother of the two South Korean conglomerates. LG stole Samsung’s thunder and is rapidly emerging as the most innovative TV maker – if they can continue to build on their momentum.

All of LG’s 2014 LED models will be available this spring together with the new cheaper OLED TVs. LG’s 4K OLED TVs will be available in Q3 or Q4.

LG PB6900 (PLASMA)

Sayang walang 32" na LB6300. Masyadong steep na price ng 42" nararamdaman ko. :p

Anyway, what LED TVs have TruMotion especially in the 32"-42" range? Budget with at least Php30,000.

is it just me or are the LG TV's giving the more dominant companies -- like Samsung and Sony -- are run for their money?

On another note, how come I don't see much Panasonic nor Toshiba TV's around?

Yes they are. I have one of their 2012 and 2013 models and both have been very pleasing. Best feature that I use for both is wifi streaming from my phone to the tv. Plus love the fact that their built in media players can read way more codecs than Sony and Samsung tvs

Sony is no longer a dominant brand for TVs. Even TCL outsold them last year.

Sony's been trying these past years to maintain competitiveness by sourcing most of their TVs from Hon Hai, Wistron and Compal.

That's a shame. I used to own a lot of Sony products and before either Sony or Sharp lang binibili naming tvs.

The past couple of years na naghanap ako ng Tv palagi ko nicheck out Sony and the other 2 Korean brands. I always got to the conclusion na kulang ng features yung Sony. Pero kung PQ lang talaga, Sony pa din angat for me

You probably prefer their preset picture config (and maybe processing) since they mostly just rely on other makers to supply them with panels. Samsung, LG and Sharp supply them with panels for higher end models. The lower end units source from Taiwanese panel makers.

Question lang mga sir. Ano mas ok na unit kunin?
51f5000 or lg 50lb5820?
(Samsung plasma 51f5000 - full hd plasma tv Php32,000)
(Lg 50lb5820 - 50' smart led tv, full hd - Php 46500)
Sulit ba yung difference nila sa price, dahil mababawi naman sa electricity? Mamaya na sana ako kukuha ng unit. Thanks.

Yeah, the out-of-the-box pq, I mean. Kasi with my LG tvs, medjo redish at the beginning but can easily be adjusted to be on par with Sony.

imo, pq is very good.  i played around with the resolution and decided on upscaling the output of both the samsung bd player and med8er to 4k via denon x2000.  i tried out the settings from another forum (http://www.avforums.com/threads/4k-lg-ub850v-and-ub950v.1878217/) and am pretty satisfied:

Backlight: 89
Contrast: 100 (***i toned this down to 95)
Brighness: 54
Sharpness: 27
Colour: 73
Tint: 0
Colour Temperature: C20

Advanced:

Dynamic Contrast: Medium
Dynamic Colour: Medium
Colour Gamut: Wide
Super Resulution: High
Gamma: Medium

i can't wait to see the output when there are already available sources that can do real 4k @ 60fps.

now for the bad: viewing sd channels  :'(  i just watch regular tv in the other room

got it for 64k straight payment via card at anson's..comes with the passive 3d glasses and wall bracket.  i think you can get it cheaper if you pay cold cash.  also went to avant and they were selling it around 80k+ bundled with the ht system. you can pay via credit card installment for this.

Congrats bro!

This is my next target hehe. 69K ba ang bili mo? Meron din daw lalabas na 55" version at around 97K kung cash. Ang pinag-iisipan ko is kung worth it ba ang 28K difference sa price for the 6-inch difference sa size.

Good to know that you got the LG 49" 4K TV at P64k sa Ansons. Was already tempted to get it for P69k at SM. But I decided to wait for the bigger picture size and test it first.

At 64k, it's the same price as the 50" LB5820, making the choice a no-brainer.  The question is what their logic is for the pricing of a 4k panel vs one that's not even a full web OS set.

Maybe they are positioning it against the 50" TCL UHD that's selling for 69K. Possible din that they want the UHD to go mainstream faster, then benta sila ng mas mahal na models pag nasanay na ang mga tao sa 4K.

Newbie to LG LED TVs here.

Will there be motion blur when I play video games and watch fast-paced action scenes on the new LG LED TV 2014 models like the 60LB5820?

I'm also particular with eye strain. People and articles say that Plasmas are still "softer" on the eyes and also have no motion blur.

Or am I better off with a Plasma TV for my viewing needs than an LG LED TV?

Thanks.

Hi there, I purchased a LB58 LG Smart TV last month and been satisfied for quite some time now. However, I encountered some issues in playing movies in avi format from a USB flash drive. Actually we're doing some Naruto marathon wherein the first 40 episodes played pretty well, and the succeeding episodes couldn't be read. Although when I tried to play those, the audio of the files is actually playing, but the video were missing.

Any help guys?

Sa 2013 LG tv ko, never encountered video codec problems. Try updating the firmware baka may dagdag na codecs. Otherewise, try a media player na lang if wala talaga

May naka experience ba dito ng "dimming issue" ng bagong LG?

from AVSforum,
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/1522608-2014-lg-thread-12.html
HELP PLEASE - DIMMING ISSUE:

I have the LB 55 6100.  Very happy with it (once we got out of the Soap Opera look).  However, when there is a dark scene (e.g., people are in a dark bar or a dimly lit room) the screen dims and stays dim until the scene is no longer dark.

I have Tru-Motion turned off.

It happens in both Standard and Expert Mode (and all others but I have focused on those 2).

The Auto Energy Savings is turned off.

It happens in both real time and recorded shows.

It does not help to adjust the brightness.

I called LG and they sent out a technician.  He went through everything - and couldn't find the fix.  This was the first time he had seen this issue (although he had had very few calls on this TV because it is such a new model).

His solution - install a new internal board or replace it with a new TV from Costco (gotta love their return policy!!!).

Because the ordering of a new board, etc wasn't easy, we dismantled the TV, schlepped it back to Costco, got a new one, installed it, and...  the problem is still there!!!!!!!!!!

I would appreciate all advice - because I do like the TV and the price point and would prefer to fix this one instead of buy a whole new set up.

Thanks!

It's having HDMI issues with his cable box though (all other HDMI sources are okay), so he's using component cables for that in the meantime. The Cable Box freezes if the HDMI cable is plugged in and the RF cable is in as well. I'm thinking it's a ground issue (possibly on the TV side). I had the same problem with a Panasonic TV before ("fixed" by a CATV ground isolator).

LG and SkyCable tech were pointing at each other (as expected, I got the same with my problem before).

Like an angel, an LG tech arrived at my friend's house today (without him calling to complain). They updated the TV firmware and everything is working great now.

Couldn't be happier sir. Blurays/hd movies are more detailed especially after tweaking the settings combined with the tv's auto upscaling feature.  Kainis lang kasi i tried to play big buck bunny after downloading the 4k version to test it out, but both the med8er and tv didn't recognize the mp4 format. Am just waiting for the new avrs to come out with good prices. Gastos na naman hahaha

talaga? usually spot on mga codecs na built-in sa LG tvs e. Kaya I don't feel the need to get a media player na kasi plug and play lang sa portable HDD ko.

Wait for new PC hardware to support HDMI 2.0 for a nice 4k/60p 4:4:4 source. Right now PCs are limited to 4k/30p 4:4:4 (HDMI 1.4 max) or 4k/60p 4:2:0 (marketed by some companies as an "HDMI 2.0b" mode) over HDMI. "2.0b" is sufficient for current 4k video formats, but 4:4:4 is better if you can wait.

Yup. AMD Radeon R5, R7 and R9 graphics support 4K, upto 4:4:4 - 30p over HDMI.

Nvidia Geforce 700 and 800 series desktop products also support 4K, upto 4:2:0 - 60p over HDMI.

Higher quality can be achieved with both AMD and Nvidia over Displayport.

What is scarier is the processing required for 4K formats. Until H.265 becomes hardware-accelerated, it can be very demanding. This is where we badly need OpenCL. CPU-only software decode of Main 10 @ Level 5.1 Main Tier is already enough to saturate 8-core workstation processors. This for current-day displays (4k/60p 30-bit).

I can only dream about what's required for Main 16 @ Level 6.2 High Tier (6.4Gbps HEVC). This format is for 8k/120p 48-bit.

While we are stuck with H.264, Intel Quick Sync is the most convenient choice for 4K decode (followed by Nvidia PureVideo).

Glad you're enjoying it. So in your experience, this UHD TV is better than the FHD's due to the upscaling, even when you're using FHD materials? Naeengganyo kasi ako bumili nito, but I can't afford to have buyer's remorse later hehe. Baka yung Med8er ang di makabasa ng 4k files? Now that there are no native 4K materials yet, I'll be using it mainly sa mga 1080 3D movies ko on bluray and usb. I just hope that it's better than the FHD LED that I'm using now.

There is native 4k material, but it is not widely available. Netflix is probably the most popular source for now; too bad it's not available here.

LG's touted HEVC support is mostly there to support 4k streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video. Samsung and Sony are on the same boat.

my initial assessment was that i could just be imagining things, but my wife and daughter actually commented that there was a big improvement in picture quality after re-watching a few of our bluray movies on the lg vs. our pana plasma.

i tried the 60fps and 30fps big buck bunny files, but these did not play both on the tv (via usb flash disk) and med8er.

btw, 3d is shown as fhd not 4k.

I don't think any Mede8er is 4K capable. Have you tried the presets of this software?
http://www.tv-converter.com/video-converter-ultimate/ (http://www.tv-converter.com/video-converter-ultimate/)

LG's Cinema 3D on their UHD TVs run at 3840x1080 afaik, so that's twice 1080p's horizontal resolution.

thanks sir will try that out.  actually i thought that could also be the reason and that's why i tried to play the file directly via usb directly to the tv and got the same results.  not sure if the current web os has something to do with it.

with regards to the 3d file, how come it shows 1080p on the left top corner when i click on the magic remote to see the tv settings? for 2d movies, it shows 2160. looking at the lg website, you're correct as it states "4K 3D+* gives you four times the resolution of our high-definition 3D, for a more detailed and lifelike experience that will blow you away".  not sure if i need to adjust something somewhere since i just pretty much rely on auto upscaling.  thanks!

Good day mga bossing, Can someone pls. explain the differrence of Cinema 3D vs 2D to 3D conversion features of new LG TV ?

I Ask this kase medyo nakakalito yung website ng LG..example for this model

http://www.lg.com/ph/tvs/lg-49UB850T (http://www.lg.com/ph/tvs/lg-49UB850T)

LG Ultra HD 4K TV  49UB850T

4K Ultra HD
4K IPS Panel
4K Cinema 3D  was mentioned here na cinema 3D but in the details specification not mention only 2D to 3D conversion.
Tru-Ultra HD Engine
4K HEVC 60p

It's also mention in details specs only UHD TV but in the Preview Features it says it's says LG Smart+ TV...

Can someone pls. clarify?  Salamat po.

just a heads up: there's a firmware update to the 49" tv:

http://www.lg.com/sg/support-product/lg-49UB850T

save the files in the same location, then unzip any one of them using 7zip and it'll merge one epk file.  afterwards, create a folder named LG_DTV in a usb flash drive in fat32 format and put the epk file there.  once you stick it in the tv's usb slot, it'll ask you if you want to update the firmware.

tried it out...one thing i noticed is that the motion blur has significantly decreased when i activated trumotion.  still trying to check out some more differences or improvements from the previous version.
