For question #1, I suggest you try YouTube HD on your TV first. Some of the networks on Roku3 are also on YouTube (IGN, CNET, Revision3, Twit).

I researched a bit. Found this:

Let me answer your questions:
1. We have 3mbps pldt dsl plan, is the HD stream going to be smooth?
I don't have a Roku 3 yet, but I'll be able to let you know in a week or two how it works out for me. As far as HD streaming per se is involved, I can stream 1050p with little or not buffering, while anything higher than that would definitely have some serious buffering. I am also on a PLDT 3mbps plan
2. can i buy non-overpriced roku 3 in manila?
Nope. I had to get mine from the States, particularly from Sir Oreoshake, and I had to pay for the Product and the shipping, but it's still cheaper comparing it to the Roku 3 player they have for sale on Sulit
3. anyone using roku 3? what are the free channels in it?

I can't believe that PLDT are still flogging 3mbps as high speed internet and charge the earth for it. I have 152 mbps and I pay a lot less for it than what PLDT want for 3mbps.

Unfortunately sir yours is not in the phils.

I don't have a Roku 3 yet, but I'm currently using Amazon Fire TV and a 3 Mbps PLDT connection. In my experience, the quality depends on the service you're using. For example, I seldom get HD quality on Netflix. I even consider it sub-SD quality, like watching a VCD copy. Hulu, on the other hand, is so much better. The images are crisp and clear, with the quality deteriorating only once in a while. Amazon Prime movies are better than Netflix, so if the movie is available in both, I'd watch it on Amazon Prime.

My broadband just got upgraded to 200 Mbps and they lowered the price.

Can you use roku as is without vpn like limited selection of programs or needs to be always on vpn?

Does it need to really be a Roku 3? I got an older model of Roku and it works with Netflix seamlessly with my 3mbps plan before it became the 5mbps plan of PLDT today. :--]]]
