fav team: Argentina and Brazil

I hope the Germans improve from their 2010 showing. It was a pretty young team then so a lot of them are back.
Bad trip lang madaling araw ang mga games.

Spain vs Netherlands in about 2 and a half hours.
This is a rematch of the finals from the last World Cup; should be a massive match.
-
Whatta goal from Van Persie!! Hup Holland Hup!!

anyare sa spain :(

1-5? mukhang naglabas ng sama ng loob ang Netherlands mula sa pagkakatalo nila nung 2010. >:D
anyway, I'm rooting for Germany, Argentina, and Netherlands this year.
-
2 days na ako puyat ah...
But worth it, the level of play and intensity is entirely different compared to how they play in the regular leagues. Iba talaga if playing for one,s country.
Looking forward to matches of Germany, USA, Argentina and England...
Cheers

Watched Brazil vs Croatia and later Spain vs Netherlands. From somebody that watches football only during World Cups, here are my observations:
1. Brazil has a young team, Neymar and Oscar are both 22, matibay sa bola yung Oscar who I think is their best player. Si Neymar has great ball handling and speed but doesn't appear that strong physically. Brazil's bench might lack the experience to hang with the big boys later on. And their defense is questionable.
2. Based on their first games, both Spain and Netherlands I think are stronger than Brazil. Both displayed exceptional ball handling skills and teamwork, Spain especially. I think the 5-1 drubbing that Spain received doesn't reflect what a good team Spain really is. But what a goal by Van Persie, a flying (horizontal) header off a very long pass.
Can't wait to see Messi in action.
-
Another mouthwatering clash: England vs. Italy tomorrow at 6am.
Let's see if Roy Hodgson's lads can limit the creativity of the Italian midfield.
-
anyare sa spain :(

Prang heat ba?

Leo Messi plays in six hours against a solid Bosnian team. Hope this turns out to be the start of his best stint in an Argentine shirt.

Match is running now.

Not a great start for Portugal just like Spain. No luck yet from the Iberian Peninsula.

Hope the rest follows...but i doubt.

got to watch the latter part of the Germany - Portugal match early this morning. the German squad destroyed Portugal with a score of 4-0! >:D
-
Germany was as impressive as any team I've seen so far - confident pin point passing and the ability to transition instantly from defense to a coordinated running attack. Portugal appeared 2nd rate next to Germany.
Also got to watch Messi for the first time. The talent is obvious - ball control, speed, a good eye for the field and accurate passing, as short and stocky as Maradona but quicker on his feet.
-
na draw ang Brazil against Mexico... :(
-
possible first round elimination ng depending champion Spain... 2-0 in favor of chile. :(
-
possible first round elimination ng depending champion Spain... 2-0 in favor of chile. :(
one of the worst performances i have ever seen. Spain was lazy and boring. They had no chance as soon as they went down 1-0 early in the 1st half.
-
Spain are out. They join an illustrious list of defending champs that made an early exit.
Practically the entire team seemed tired, probably due to a very taxing season with their clubs.
-
Spain also earned the dubious distinction of making the earliest exit from a World Cup by a defending champion in history. No defending champions have ever been eliminated after only two games of the first phase.
-
Wow shocker, the top ranked team is out. That makes Germany the new favorite to lift the trophy. They and the Dutch have had the best showing so far.
-
it was a close fight between the Netherlands and the Socceroos (Australia). but in the latter part, the orange team prevailed. the match ended with a score of 3-2. :D
-
goal suarez... uruguay lead 1-0... uh-uh delikado maeliminate ang england...
Uruguay 2-1 England... tsk... talo...
-
Very disappointed with Spain. Somehow without Puyol the defense is poor.
England technically still has a chance.

England's fortunes will rest on the Italy vs Costa Rica match later at midnight.
-
That Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is really good.
-
Costa Rica 1-0 Italy.. means England now eliminated...
whew... oras ng mga underdogs ngayon ah...
-
whew... oras ng mga underdogs ngayon ah...
That's not a surprise. With the bigger teams, players are typically stars for the biggest clubs and play a lot more matches in a year than the rest.
This is why you see defending champions usually falling short at World Cups. After winning the cup, their players become stars and are immediately snatched up by the biggest clubs, ergo, get much much busier match and media schedules.
Spain was supposed to be the exception but instead have spectacularly bombed out of this World Cup.
-
That Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is really good.
The poor center backs of england make him look even better.
-
argentina 1 - 0 Iran... last minute goal by lmessi.. whew...
-
Not convinced by Argentina. They were lucky to beat Iran (though Iran played really good).
Watching Germany-Ghana now. Germany is the best team I've seen so far. Deep bench, great defense smoothly transitioning to fast break offense, best goalie of the WC in Neuer.
-
I posted the above with the score 0-0 at halftime. Then it started raining goals, 2-2 now with 20 minutes to go. Miroslav Klose just tied Ronaldo's record for most WC goals scored. When you have a Klose and a Bastian Schweinsteiger as substitutes, you really have a deep bench.
-
klose=ronaldo 15wc goals,
Now tied 2=2

wasn't able to watch the match. but it was a draw at 2-2. Germany is still ahead with its points haul from Portugal.
-
Ghana really played a great offensive game. Doing what Germany does - quick transitions from defense to running attacks. Magaling yung Ayew.

Messi magic
(https://d3j5vwomefv46c.cloudfront.net/photos/thumb/857709217.gif)

Messi pala favors his left foot for his shots. This great curled shot was similar to but longer than his first goal. Also uses the left during free kicks.
-
nani goooooal! 1-0
Not nani=sandawa ha,,,hehe

1=1 !

dempsey 2-1
-
2-2 last second'goal via c.r. Cross to varela
-
Sounds like an exciting 2nd half. I just caught the tail end the of 1st half before having to leave for work, with Portugal leading 1-0. Am delighted that the USA gave them a run for their money and almost won.
Still an impressive run by the USA in probably the toughest group of the 1st round.

Italy vs Uruguay tonight, winner advances to 2nd round and loser goes home. It's Pirlo (great midfielder) vs Suarez (great striker).
-
the Netherlands beat Chile 2-1 to advance to the next stage! :D
-
And the Italians are eliminated!
-
italy and england eliminated same bracket.. tsk... considered strong team....
-
Darn Suarez, that guy should get a lifetime ban!! what a disgusting human being!

Para palang si Mike Tyson itong si Suarez, nangangagat! Uninspired play by the Italians, sorely lacking in offensive creativity.

only the poor form of the english made them look good at the start of the tournament.

Messi Argentina lead Nigeria 2-1
Southpaws Messi and Di Maria are running the Nigerians ragged in this match.
Messi is now a far better free kick specialist than Beckham, even without Predators as boots. Becks can still whip crosses better, though.
Lavezzi isn't making as much of an impact as Aguero did earlier. Maybe they should have kept Tevez in the squad?
Hope to see more goals in the second half.
-
Very entertaining match. 3-2 Argentina at 63 min. Messi is pulled out and in comes Ogag! Yeah Argentina has a player named G_go.
-
Brazil and Argentina pasok sa knockout round... :):):)

That will be one VERY exciting match. The US deserved to win against Portugal, too bad it ended in a draw. If it was not for that last minute perfect cross by Ronaldo, the US would be taking it easy now, after playing in terrible conditions, they need to rest up.

Luis Suarez banned from ALL football for 4 months (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2670831/Luis-Suarez-banned-four-months-ALL-football-bite-Georgio-Chiellini.html). He can't even enter a stadium anywhere. Commiserations for Uruguay, their talisman is gone.

Fred wants some chomping action, too.
-
LOL.
Germany-USA now. Just beautiful the way the Germans move the ball. Number 7 Schweinsteiger is truly the field marshal of the German team. He creates so many offensive opportunities with his pinpoint passing and ability to read the field.

It was almost a draw. I'd have to say, the Americans are playing way above their level. That German team has been intact since 2010 with most of them in their prime! I can only see the Dutch team to have the ability to challenge them at this point. Argentina has been lucky with their draw but I feel that if they faced the same teams that the Germans did, they wouldn't be toting a perfect record.
-
Messi is one up again against CR7. Portugal bows out after first match loss on goal difference.

Quite agree with your assessment. Holland with Van Persie and Robben on the vanguard are formidable threats to even the best defense. Robben in particular is just so darned fast he can outrun most defenders.

until one of them wins a cup, neither have one over the other.
-
this world cup he is. anyhow. hoping brazil chile would be a great match later.
-
Wasn't that impressed with Brazil in the opening match. Porous defense. But they are considered favorites. I wonder why? Will give them a second look tonight.
-
homecourt advantage? go brazil!
-
Hulk goal wrongly disallowed. Brazil should've been up 2-1. Having said that, Brazil is being outplayed in the 2nd half. Still all to play for at 1-1.
Great game by the Chilean goal keeper.
-
Penalty shoot out. Chile almost knocked Brazil out of the World Cup with a shot that hit the cross bar seconds away for the end of extra time.
-
Nail biting shoot-out, Brazil squeak's through.
-
thrill of victory, agony of defeat. Streak continues, chile still 0 vs brazil
-
hulk's goal seem ok. Chest shoulder area, hulk also missed pk but he's a workhorse. They should put in d blacks, un 2 payat na players matamlay.
Who got 2nd yellows? Not gonna play in QF next game

Brazil advance... :):):) next Argentina and US

Most experts calling the game(ex players) are 50/50 on it. Some say it was the right call some say it was close but should have been allowed. My own assesment of it is it slightly hit his arm making it a hand ball. Brazil is on shaky legs all tournament. I still have the germans and dutch ahead. Lalo na yung germans in terms of TEAM form, not just individual.
-
The first Brazil goal was more a Chilean own goal. It just brushed the shirt of Luiz. Lucky escape by the home team.
-
Mexican coach freaks out again in celebration as Dos Santos gives Mexico a 1-0 lead over Holland in the 48th minute. Netherlands, one of the tournament favorites, now on the back foot.
And Schneider equalizes on the 87th. Momentum with the Dutch.
-
i love underdogs taking the lead... :):)
-
Damn, Holland scores on a penalty kick with 2 minutes left of stoppage time. What a recovery by the Dutch - truly a case of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
Arjen Robben made things happen for the Dutch, what a player. Van Persie was out of sorts.
-
Boom.... and that happens... whew...
-
Costa Rica ousted Greece via penalty shootout win :)
-
that was a breathtaking penalty shootout between costa rica and greece! whew!
-
8)
-
another thriller, great save!
-
The knockout stages separate the men from the boys. The netherlands vs mexico match needed a hydration break because of gruelling conditions. That last penalty call was because of exhaustion, the defender got there with enough time but couldnt pull of the tackle properly, resulting to a foul in the box.
Now the tournament really begins.
-
Will check out the French tonight. Haven't seen them play but by all accounts they are strong. Na miss ko tuloy yung magic ni Zinedine Zedane, the best player I've ever seen along with Maradona of course.
-

what will make it hard for the french is the absence of workhorse Frank Ribery. They have enough firepower to make it to the quarters but then that is a potential date with the Germans, and if their luck continues they go up against the host nation in the semis.
-
France eliminates Nigeria 2-0. It was close until the end when Nigeria began making crucial errors including an own goal. Not convinced by the French. Their best player in this match was the little guy Valbuena, tiny legs running around tirelessly, great assist passing and impeccable corner crosses.
-
Was able to watch football highlights in 4k yesterday on a 70in panel. It brought tears to my eyes. :D :D

Nigeria is actually pretty tough. They wont win a cup but they will give quality (not good or great) teams a hard time. If I'm not mistaken it took Argentina a 3rd goal just to win because the Nigerians didnt want to quit.

https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/world-cup-suarez-admits-bite-apologies-chiellini-172522568--sow.html
Suarez finally comes out with the truth! this guy needs to have his head checked!
-
Looks like the German team will meet the French in the quarters as expected. There is still 10 minutes to play in extra time but Leow has been substituting his midfielders with defensive mid fielders and has changed formation. I think the Germans have decided to just hold on instead of going in for the kill. Algeria is spent anyway, most of their players are starting to cramp.
-
Wow!! And another goal from the Germans to make it 2-0 in extra time
-

what an exciting last ten minutes! just when I said the Germans would be content on sitting on the ball they break a counter attack and mount their own for a 2-0 lead, only for Algeria to get one back immediately after...Crazy final minutes but Germany through to the last eight.
-
Caught the last 10-minutes and the highlights. Looked like the Algerian goalie had a busy time keeping the score nil-all in the first 90-minutes, only to give up 2 goals in extra time.
Same story with the France vs Nigeria match, the Nigerian GK keeper Enyeama (who has the most saves of the WC thus far) had another fantastic game but in the closing minutes, slowed down considerably and made a mistake that allowed an easy header by Pogba. This was followed by a Nigerian own goal for which Enyeama was partly to blame. Pity.
-
Tonight will be a good set of matches. A gritty and tactically sound USA will be playing slight favorites but underperforming Belgium.
Argentina will be playing another defensive team in Switzerland. Ottmar Hitzfeld will probably park the bus later to stop Di Maria's incursions and stifle Leo Messi then try to counter. I think Iran has written the blueprint on how to play Argentina.

For some reason I'm rooting for a US win over Belgium. Parang Gilas Pilipinas ang dating nila sakin eh, they are playing with a lot of heart.

yey... para kasing dehado sila sa larong soccer eh... kaya maliban sa Brazil at Argentina... gusto ko na rni for 2014 World Cup ang US na makapasok. :):)
-
Interesting yung comments ng American lady that I saw sa TV a few days back. Hindi raw totoong sports ang soccer kasi it doesn't give so much emphasis on individual talent. Masyado raw team effort tapos maraming no-point games. Kaya hindi raw sisikat sa US despite the current World Cup fever.
Sabagay it's a sport na malaki chance ng weaker team to win. Play defense only then 0-0 tapos penalty shoot-out.
I'm rooting for Lil Messi and the US.
-
Compare mo naman sa American football - stop and go, offensive team alternating with defensive team, total time ball is in play - what? 15 minutes? Probably less. Pretty easy way to make a living.
Back on topic, Swiss side holding its own vs Messi and company. Great defense by both teams. Argentina lacks depth in the mid-field, one that consistently creates opportunities for its forwards.
-

why should there be emphasis on individual talent if its a REAL team sport? Didn't the San Antonio Spurs just school an in prime and obviously more talented and more physically gifted Miami Heat Big 3 with excellent team play? I'm almost certain the lady knows little about "Football". She can stick to watching NFL, which hardly uses the foot in tandem with the ball, and they insist on calling it football..what a joke.
ALso, I cant totally agree to weaker teams having a larger chance to win by just playing defense, although I see the logic of such an argument. Its just that in reality, it hardly works. There are 2 very recent examples (Bayern Munich vs Manchester United at the UEFA final eight and Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid at the UEFA semis) that even if you "park the bus" in front of the goal, the opposing team may still find a chance to score because they have no fear of a counter.
And if does result to a penalty shoot out, chances are the defensive team fielded defensive players that have little to no experience in taking penalties.
-
Sinong stronger between the Swiss and the Argentines? Eh mukhang papunta sa penalty shoot-out. I hate this kind of game.
-
YES! This is a World Cup of last minute goals!
-
And just like that Di Maria scores. 1-0 Argentina.
And Switzerland almost ties! Game has come alive with minutes to go.
-

On paper its even. Argentina is ranked 5 while Switzerland is ranked 6. Argentina though has Messi and Di Maria who has been in form since the UEFA finals.
-
First time ko makakita ng GK leaving his post to join the offensive at the other end of the field! Heartbreaking loss for the. Swiss.
-

Hart did the same for the last play against Uruguay, incredibly risky because its an open goal on the other end. But it is heartbreaking for the Swiss.
I've always thought that the Argentine team had a lucky draw to get to the knockout stages. This game against the Swiss just showed how poor their team play really is.
-
That's what makes Messi better than Ronaldo (IMO) - he creates a lot more scoring opportunities for his teammates. His assist record is truly fantastic.
-
I like Messi better as well. He is calm and balanced when he has the ball. And he has vision, touch, and accuracy - all attributes of a great passer.
-
USA vs Belgium now, 0-0 at 28 min. USA being badly outplayed here. Based on what I've seen so far, they won't win this match on merit. They sorely lack good mid-fielders to get the offensive going. Someone like Pirlo or Schweinsteiger. Strikers need good mid-field support to get in position to strike. Otherwise, they'll have to create their own opportunities, which is difficult unless one has Maradona or Messi levels of talent!
-
The US is good in maintaining ball possession but not in creating realistic goal opportunities. Penalty shoot-out lang yata pag-asa. Hehe

And thats the reason I think leaving Donavan out was a mistake. He has the experience and his role in clubs is to be an attacking midfielder, quite similar to Wesley Sneijder of the Netherlands, albeit a poor mans version of. I just like that they play with their heart on their sleeve and leave it all out on the pitch.
The Brazilians on the other hand have been cocky and lackluster with their play. they are getting away with pure talent and luck.
-
Still 0-0 at 81 min (and we are still awake). Good thing it's Pasig day :).
Howard is being peppered. May pag-asa pa, pa-abutin lang sa penalty shoot-out.

Sabella keeps changing their formation, too: 5-3-2, then 4-3-3, then 4-4-2, which is probably confusing his players.
Argentina, on paper, has the most lethal strike force of any nation, with Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria, and Messi. But the tactics have been poor, and the supplier to this fab four, G@go, has also underperformed, imho.
They are very reliant on the heroics of one man. The funny thing is that these are very similar circumstances to 1986. ;D

Too bad Kun Aguero is now gone for the tournament. Nawalan nang katulong si Messi. Mabuti na lang si Di Maria has been in absolute killer form for the past few months.

oops the Belgians after numerous unsuccessful assaults against Howard finally score
-
oh well, there is still time but I doubt if the Americans can equalize.
-
and just like that its game over for the americans. 2-0 now for Belgium.
-

Drama! the US takes one back and keeps itself alive. Youngster Julian Green with the goal!
-
Sh_t what a game! USA had its chances. Still 5 minutes left.
-
great game at the extension time!
-
Fairy tale is over for the US. Belgium goes through to face Argentina in the Quarters.

Lukaku was the catalyst. He deserved that goal.
The theme for the round of 16 has been: play a nervous first 80 minutes, then play a furious action-packed end game. This has been a great World Cup!

So true. We saw this in the 2 matches today. Also with Germany-Algeria and France-Nigeria yesterday.

Multiple chances by France especially Benzema but so far Neuer is equal to the task. Germany leads 1-0 on a Hummels header early on as the first half ends.
German defense looking shaky. This match is far from over.
-
And Germany is through. They owe that one to Neuer no doubt. Looking less convincing as the tournament wears on.
-
samba yellow fever 2-1 !

sana ok si Neymar para sa next game against Germany

neymar d0ne, gone

Brazil need Neymar. Looks like Germany are going through.

they have! Germany beat France 1-0 :D

That's the best I've seen Brazil play in this World Cup, free flowing, confident offense and improved defense. On the strength of their QF performances, I was going to say Brazil should beat Germany but with Neymar and their captain Thiago Silva out, Germany should win.

Even with Neymar they would not have won. I tried streaming and listened to a different set of commentators and they were saying that Germany played smart. As soon as Mats Hummels got the goal Low switched his team's spacing. He stuck to the same formation in case they needed to counter but opted to make the wing midfield players stand back and Lahm in particular switch from a midfield role to a right back, which is his best position. The Brazilian defense is still spotty for me and if Low opts to start Klose again, David Luiz would have his hands full...
-
I'm still hoping that Brazil will win the next game even without Neymar and Silva. But in reality, their chances are slim without the two star players.
-
Germany's defense was spotty too as witnessed by several easy opportunities by Benzema even up to the last play. Only the superb goal keeping prevented the French from equalizing.
-
Miroslav Klose gets another chance to bag the WC goals scored record for himself.
-
they have! Germany beat France 1-0 :D
Yup, I watched the match. :)
I meant Germany are probably through to the final.
-
All we need are the Dutch and we have an all-star set of semifinalists.
-
mahihirapan ang Brazil ko against sa Germany... and magkakaroon ng magandang laban ang Argentina sino man manalo sa Ned vs CR... :):)
sana magharap ang Brazil at Argentina... though gusto ko mapanood laro ng Germany laban sa Argentina.
-
My prediction is Germany vs. Argentina in the finals.
-
Robben is so fast that when he flops, he creates such a spectacle - great bait for a free kick. But who can fault him, he works hard for every one of those runs. He energizes the Dutch offense with his dynamic plays - fantastic player.
Extra time now at. 0-0 after an all out assault on the Costa Rican goal in the closing minutes.

Argentina just lost winger di Maria. Huge loss. It seriously changes their game plan.

the Costa Rican gkeeper Navas is quite good, next only to Tim Howard of the US!

Indeed. Not sure how Sabella will respond tactically, but I'm guessing Alvarez might get more minutes as a roaming midfielder. At least that's how I'd do it if I wanted a 4-3-3 formation. 8)
I have a feeling though that Sabella will stay with a 5-3-2 in the first half, which would rule out Alvarez, I think.
-

A lot of goal keepers stood out in this WC. The Mexican one - Ochoa, the Nigerian one - Enyeama, Navas and of course Howard and Neuer. This WC also proved to be disappointing for a couple of ATG goal keepers - Iker Casillas of Spain and Gianluigi Buffon of Italy.

This edition of the world cup has been a showcase of Goalkeepers. The numerous penalty shoot outs and clean sheets have given them an avenue to shine, more so than the more famous strikers. Aside from James Rodriguez' one touch volley and Van Persie's superman header, I have a hard time naming a "beautiful" goal. (Honorable mention would be David Villa's backheel goal)
-
Who is your player of the tournament so far?
For me, it has to be Arjen Robben with Messi second. Robben just keeps on pushing forward, relentless and electric, creating opportunities all the time. Messi so far is more restrained, attacking and assisting in equal measures.

So far i would have to agree with you that Robben is having an excellent world cup. But i'm a little iffy with the great Messi, he plays so much better when he's with Barca. I actually have Angel Di Maria a close second to Robben. Di Maria has been running 10+k in every match until his injury. His work rate is underrated. Columbia's James Rodriguez would be my 3rd choice, his game has been on since the beginning of the world cup. Too bad he was a non factor in their loss to brazil with exception to his penalty goal.

I hope Die Mannschaft wins. ;D
-
I hope Loew starts Klose again and employs an offensive strategy. With Silva out of the line up the Brazil defense will be very weak!
-
Tactics by Loew are spot on. The Brazilians were totally exposed and put to the sword by a solid German side.
Wonder if this will be a comeback for the ages, like when Eusebio beat North Korea.
-
4-0 for Germany at only 25 minutes in. Mueller, Klose, Kroos x2. Disaster for Brazil.
World Cup goals scored record for Klose - 16!
-
Sh_t! Score for Khedira, 5-0. It's all over folks. Brazil defense totally exposed.
-
Parreira had Bebeto and Romario in '94.
Scolari in 2002 had Rivaldo, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho.
Brazil today is not even close, even with Neymar. Scolari should have played a more conservative formation against a predatory German side and waited to counter. He rolled the dice and went all out in attack and had his defense utterly exposed.
-
brazilians may leave the stadium before the 2nd half...
-
tsk kawawa naman brazil team ko.... hays...
-

Agree. The way to play the Germans is to counter attack, catch them off guard with quick transitions from defense to offense.
-
And Neuer shows his class in the second half!
-
This is a good old fashioned butt whipping. Klose is thinking, you should not have subbed me yet coach, hehe.
-
7-0 oh my. A real bad day for Julio Cesar.
-
Well, i knew that Brazil defense was non existent. More so with captain Silva out of the line up. And Loew even made a tactical change to anticipate the Brazilian attack, he placed Lahm back at his best position of right back. I can already smell a Netherlands-Germany final. :) Argentina has just as spotty a defense as Brazil with an even weaker offense now that di maria is injured.
-
Thats not a game,its a massacre
-
Looks like Germany will take Match 64...
-
I hope Die Mannschaft wins. ;D
Your team wins. It shows how vulnerable the Brazil team is without Neymar and Silva. Brazil's goal in the 90th minute is only a consolation.
-
Thats not a game,its a massacre
Exactly. I don't expect that score even without the two star players of Brazil. It's even exciting to watch US vs. Germany than the semi final match.
-
durog ang brazil WC team

parang na-miami heat sila ;D
-
1-7! tambak, lampaso, massacre, armageddon, gehenna, desolation, disintegration, etc, etc. no words can fully describe brazil's loss to Germany. >:D >:D >:D
I'm looking forward to a Germany - Netherlands showdown in the finals. ;)
-
I'm very interested to see what tactical adjustments LVG will be implementing tonight. I'm quite sure he won't do a 4-3-3 because you have a player like Messi on the other side. Maybe a 4-5-1 with Van Persie as a target man?
Sabella will probably start with a 5-3-2 out of respect for Robben's speed and then adjust later on.

In football, managers generally does not set his team based on the players in the other side but rather form the strongest 11 based on players available. I expect both sides will not have major adjustments on their respective strategies that brought them at this stage.

The strategies definitely do not change but the tactics do. Also, managers do tactically react to players on the other team, particularly against the likes of Messi. LVG has done this before, too, even as early as when he managed Ajax. :)
-
parang Spurs vs Heat yung Germany vs Brazil, tambak :)
-
Nigel De Jong starts for Memphis Depay and the Dutch follow a 5-3-2 formation.
Argentina is on a 4-3-3 (on paper at least)! This was unexpected.
Let's see how this one goes.
EDIT:
2 guys watching over Messi and Robben

It's Germany vs. Argentina in the finals. My bet will be Argentina. I hope Di Maria will be fit to play.
-
I think Germany will win it all. Argentina has failed to impress.
-
Germany will win this years world cup. I dont see them surrendering a goal and i also dont see them being unable to score. Sana maging exciting, last time these two teams met the Germans played with Argentina.
-
You could tell the Argentines really willed themselves to defend through pain and suffering.
Three (Rojo, Mascherano, Zabaleta) got concussed with hits to the head and one (Biglia) playing through a very painfully injured arm.
Result: the once-prolific Dutch not having a shot on target in 120 minutes on the pitch, even with Robben, Van Persie, and later on, Huntelaar.
This is, arguably, a better defensive display than Germany against Brazil.

One rule change that I wish is for FIFA to penalize double or triple teaming when the ball is not within the penalty box. Game sucks if both teams resort to avoiding defeat by stifling the best players with 2 or 3 muscular defenders than go all out to create offense for the win within regulation. Where's the beautiful game in that?
I'm still rooting for Messi though.

i think andiyan ung beauty ng soccer... how will you defeat those defender na halos lahat susugod sa iyo... to find an open player... that is why they need to pass the ball... or else dudumugin ka talaga...
-
One of the few players in football's history who can sow so much fear on the opposing team that they abandon their original attacking tactics just to concentrate on shackling him.

Well I consider yesterday's Argentina Netherlands game a snoozefest.
Plenty of people actually share your opinion. Some others though were also able to appreciate the beauty of being able to defend for 120 minutes. Lalo na kapag maraming striker ang kalaban. They will really defend until penalties happen.
-
and the beauty of having to witness a single goal in 90-120 minutes...
-
and the beauty of having to witness a single goal in 90-120 minutes...
kadalasan kasi long time football fans lang ang nakakapansin nyan. Its actually really difficult to score a goal, 1 on 1 with a keeper and some people still miss at a professional level, so when a team scores and the other team parked a bus, its really a celebration.
-
And Julio Cesar's debacle continues. Has seen two goals slip by already by the 17th minute. The Brazilian side is vulnerable each time the ball is inside their penalty box.
-
brazilian hearts broken twice. 0-3 for the 3rd place match. I'm gonna watch the replay later. ;)
-
Khedira develops a calf problem and is out of the final.
-
Khedira is 1/3 of the powerful German midfield - great at defense and an offensive threat as well.
Jeez Messi will outrun Hummels all day, bit of a mismatch there.
-
Watching Final match Germany vs. Argentina LIVE. 35 mins now in the game both 0-0.
-
Lively match even if it's 0-0 at the half. ARG seems to have had the clearer chances, looking to counter with their speed. Messi and Higuain giving the GER defense fits.
I am anticipating goals in the second half. :D
-
Germany is in control and threatening most of the time ... the chances that Argentina had were from breakaways
-
No goals yet at 5 min. Mark...

Yellow card always flashing....

just 1 goal messi... just 1 goal...

uu nga... halos lahat ng team disaster ang pagkakatalo... so far promising ang argentina ngayon... he he he... galingan lang ng goalkeeper at ni messi...
-
I am liking Argentina's chances, they have put a halt to the German forward flow with good defense and have had the better scoring chances. Shame if this ends in a penalty shootout.
-
GOAL! Germany....
-
And Gotze scores a fabulous goal, hehe.

Great shot.

Final score = 1-0

Brazil got its wish no celebration from their neighbor!!!

Didn't give Argentina much chance before the kickoff. But credit Argentina, they could have easily won it.

ouch... next time kailangan kong kampihan ang kalaban para matalo... tsk...

Argentina...

Argentina missed so much opportunities. Great goal by Gotze.
-
Congrats to Germany, finally, a European team to win a World Cup Championship in Latin American soil!!!
-
achtung baby!
-
Both teams have great deferences...
-
Neuer just towers over Messi. Neuer wins the golden glove (best GK) while Messi gets the golden ball (best futballer).
-
I thought neuer was standing on a podium when they stand side by side for pictures...
-
Si Gotze yata ang pinakamaliit sa team...

dontcry for me argentina
-
I stand corrected, the argentine defense proved to be a berlin wall when it all mattered. That goal by Götze will be the highlight for the next 4 years.
-
Deutschland it is!
-
Could have been 2-0 or 1-0 Argentina. Higuain and that young Argentine player will have some sleepness nights.
-
that was just a single lapse in a great Argentine defense. tremendous offensive midfield advantage by Germany throughout the game but they still could have lost in regulation had the futbol gods favored Argentina. very exciting game.

-
Could have been 2-0 or 1-0 Argentina. Higuain and that young Argentine player will have some sleepness nights.
Messi was off target twice and higuain once with howedes missing by inches with his header and romero saving an effort from a beautiful schurrrle strike. Ironically, Argentina had more chances, but none of them were on target. The Germans though made sure the most important statistic was theirs....Germany 1 - 0 Argentina.

Giselle more than makes up for the Selecao's loss of face I think....

Actuallymay amoy talaga ang europeans kasi sa sobrang lamig at baba ng humidity, hindi sila daily naliligo. So medyo iba ang hygiene nila. Actually may karamihan din akong nakitang chicks na ang gaganda pero talo pag amuyan na and mas marami pa sakin ang armpit hair!
