The digibox of ABS CBN is still not publicly available but you can experience it now! I have two spare digibox, experience 5 channels in digital signal with clear and crisp picture quality today. HD Cable quality without installation fee and monthly fees!
Channels: 2, Sports+Action, DZMM Teleradyo, Movie Channel, Knowledge Channel/Youth
Also included are Gem TV, Channel 4 and other digital channels of other stations who will broadcast soon.

Says Mahiwagang Black Box on the packaging. TV+ is the product name. Appears to be a Skycable product. Has Sky logo.
Includes:
1. Antenna with 2m cable
2. Receiver box
3. Remote
4. rca cables
5. AC adapter with 1m lead.
6. Remote AA batteries
7. User Manuals
I tested it only on a CRT tv. It uses composite video (rca). I guess that is not HD. No HDMI. Picture is as clear as SD Skycable channels. This is way better than analog. Very happy with it.
I don't think this is an exclusive ABS-CBN product. Some competitor networks are on it.
As tested I get the ff channels:

DZMM gives away one unit each day to lucky contestants....
Ted Failon's Daily radio show hosts this and a lucky winner is picked by 10am
before his radio program comes to a close, myself a regular listener....
the units are supposed to be for sale in future pending approval by NTC
of the system to be used...(wala pa pong approval by the NTC kung anong system ang paiiralin)
so any unit on sale now could have come from those winners...
as i do not know that ABS-CBN is selling them now...

how does this thing work? if you have weak reception ng aerial antenna mo, bigla lilinaw with this box??

It is still a wireless receiver. Good antenna position is a must. You must also be within the network's covered area.
Using a regular antenna with a standard tv I used to get double image fuzzy video. With this new digital box, on the same spot, video is perfect for all channels.
Standard tv gets analog signal. This box gets digital.

I was able to get one through Digibox. Surprisingly, ABS-CBN 2, ABS-CBN Sports+Action, GMA 7 and GMA News TV were clearer on this box than on SkyCable's HD box.

Got my unit from digibox and it's true that the video is sharper than Sky digibox and HD-like. Ordering 2 more units :)

and also, the digibox being "given" is not the final approved by NTC digital box
it does not even have an HDMI.
those digibox are early unit version of abscbn for early adoptation.
but they cannot sell it due to delayed digital tv launch.
be careful also, those selling digibox in olx has duped alot of potential buyer
they require deposit on a bank account... P700

May kasama po itong Indoor antenna, nasa 5m coax cable tapos yung dulo de-magnet yung antena parang pang wifi. Depende po talaga sa location yung sagap ng channel. Na-test ko itong nabili kong unit sa ibaba namin tv, nakasagap sya ng 10 channels tapos nun inilipat ko sa room ko sa 3rd floor using indoor antena nakasagap ng 21channels.
This serves only as our back up since naka Cignal HD po kame sa bahay.

from my limited understanding, these boxes receive signal from designated towers. i just don't know where these towers are. the location of the towers will tell us the signal coverage.
true, you can use it in your car while mobile or you can use it in multiple locations but one location at a time since it is a wireless device.

i doubt that it is ted failon, because i heard him say that these digibox are not
for sale yet, that is why they give away a unit each day, 5 days a week, so that this
promo has been going on for over two years now so that a total of
more than 520 boxes have been given away...
Ted Failon mentions that they are seeking approval from NTC, the system
they are using is the same as the ones used in Japan...
so that the question is still, what if NTC do not approve and approves another system instead?
if living in a condo, i would advise to avoid locating units near elevator shafts
or big columns, medyo makakaharang ng signal...

ISDB-T standard has been defined and approved for Philippines
this digibox from ABS is their first release which is not type approved yet by NTC.
it is not allowed to be sold at his moment, the reason why they give it away.
but since they have lots of it... they will make a way to dispose it before the approved type of digibox is released.

Called up ABS-CBN and they claim that even if NTC has already finalized the IRR, the tv+ boxes can still be used.
I guess, they won't really "sell" it if they will not stand by their product. They will be ashamed if all of these boxes will be rendered useless once the IRR has been finalized.
Besides, the boxes are OTA upgradable so if there will be changes once the IRR is finalized, an update can be pushed to the box.
Another thing, the box is already the latest version. The one on top of the latest one was the initial version of the tv+ box.

NBC got the box from TS.
I got the box from NBC to test if I can get signal. I knew his experience but decided to take the risk.
From New Manila and I am also not getting any Signal.

ADTH is the OEM of the box. Model is IT7200.
My experience with the SKY tv+ and comparing it with SkyCable's signal was quite weird.
ABS-CBN 2, ABS-CBN Sports, GMA 7 and GMA News TV are clearer and I mean a huge difference compared to SkyCable's signal. To think I am already using SkyCable's HD box.
On the other hand, TV5 and Aksyon TV are clearer on SkyCable's HD box compared to the tv+ box. Weird.

yes, it can be used once the approved digibox setup is released but with some limitation like what mentioned. no HDMI.

ABS-CBN's tv+ box can still receive signals even when its raining or cloudy, well last time I've used it when we had Glenda, I was able to view ABS-CBN.
Sun Outage is true, it can affect satellite signals.

Where are the transmissions originating, and what is the coverage area?
Am from south of Manila (Sta. Rosa Laguna) and am curious if the signals, which I assume are ISDB-T (terrestial) Free-To-Air transmissions. Sagap ba dito yan? Am interested if ever channels can be viewed from this side of the world. :)
*Curious what would happen to the SkyCable STB's which are DVB-C's when the IRR is implemented. I assume they would later on be replaced by ISDB-C boxes.

Ted Failon in his radio program enumerates what channels are accessible thru this
digibox, the channels are few, so it is amazing if you can get more channels from what was sold...

it is an open box tuner, unless sky tv+ put a restriction on it.
meaning it can receive and decode all ISDB-T transmitted signal from all network station undergoing testing.
all network are on testing phase may it be alpha , beta and for sure ABS-CBN is already in the final stage since they are the one who initiated this standard. expect ISDB-T devices coming soon including 1 seg devices on mobile phone.
on reception, it is still thru tower transmission and is dependent on how far are you. you will still need an aerial antenna if you are too far from the digital tower. however, not all antenna are capable to get it. there are "digital" design antenna eg. yagi that is being type approved as well.

I get 16 local channels. I listed them on page 1. I get ABS, GMA, TV5, Aksyon, PTV4 and their sub/news channels.
Make sure the box you get has the rubber ducky antenna with around 2m cable. If there is signal in your area, you will see a popup when you got to non ABS channels. This will inititialize other channels. About 30min.

your reception and channels being recevied will come and go.
because, all of them are still in testing phase.
there will come a time that assigned freq will also change and your digibox may or may not be able to decode. unless an upgrade or re scanning is done.

the first time he offered this digibox and i texted, it was P1,000. when i finally bought yesterday, the price has gone up to P1,500. having said that, the seller seems to be a nice guy naman and easy enough to talk to.
the product really delivers VERY CLEAR reception, albeit, there are very limited channels right now. as mentioned, no other channels except for abs-cbn related programming and also ptv 4. i really don't mind since i don't normally watch on this tv set anyway. i'm located in cubao, qc.
to the mods, can we transfer this thread to the marketplace and let the TS be transparent with the pricing?

normally if the first contestant is unable to answer correctly the question,
then it's raffle time, one of around 30 contestants get to win the box and the backpack

5 boxes a day for 52 weeks is about 260 boxes...
and this has been going on for more than 2 years now as far as i can recall..
most of those who were given belong to the C and D class...
there are times when even tv sets were given away free...

I've talked to the seller 2 days ago ata. The box IS technically free daw BUT you have to buy the ABS-CBN SIM card from him, for P1,500.00.

Note that this Digibox doesn't need a sim. The sim Nelson posted is a phone sim. It's a work around since ABS CBN isn't allowed to sell the Digibox. I don't know the OP's relationship with ABS CBN and to be honest, I care little. The Digibox I bought from him works at my place and I am happy.

i think he's selling the tv box and the sim is free. why? i've bought 1 box from him and the included 2 sim cards that are supposedly with P200 load each is almost half nalang. one is P99 and the other one is P110. nagamit pa yata yung load ng sim card kaya ko nasabi na yung box ang binebenta at hindi yung sim card dahil bawas na yung load. dapat nga yata 3 sim card with P200 load each ang included sa box, originally.
But that's ok with me, ang binili ko naman talaga yung tv box with or without the sim card, hindi ko rin naman magagamit yun eh. pinamigay ko lang din yung sim. but the tv box naman is in very good condition.
and i'm very satisfied, 1st time kong makapanood ng abs-cbn sa office ko for a very long time na super linaw talaga, puro gma 7 lang dati, hahaha. ngayon naman tempo. stop yata ang broadcast ng gma in digital, hahaha.

Frank, i live in Morato Ave area. The antenna works indoors when I tested in two rooms. The cable is maybe 4.5 meters long. I don't think this antenna is meant for outdoors.

You can look at the settings system information to see the frequency band. That can help you select the correct antenna. I haven't looked yet. My signal is fine.

Not sure, but aren't ISDB-T (and even DVB-T) transmissions within the same old UHF/VHF bands so that you should be able to use your old external antennas to receive transmissions better? Connectors and cables are the same right (75ohm cables, F connectors)?

Yes, 75ohm cables with f- connector.

Paling nga lang yung older antennas sa VHF frequencies. Lagare katapat para makuha upper UHF channels. :) Good luck.

Hi there. To tell you the truth, i am ery interested in this. However, If you want to sell this product in anyway in pdvd, you really must by abide by pdvd rules and post it in the appropriate marketplace section, include a price, indicate payment methods, meetup/delivery details and abide by the reservation rules.
Suggest for potential buyers not to purchase from digibox unless pdvd rules are followed.

Digibox, I read in your for sale ad that some people get solar channels with an external antenna. Can you ask them what kind of antenne the used? I am thinking of Yagi but fear losing other channels since that is very directional.
Also there is another f-connecter beside the antenna input. Can that be used for dual antenna setup?

I'm located in Marikina. Got one digibox 2 weeks ago for my house-help to use, since their CRT TV no longer has an antenna. So far, ABS-CBN channels have very clear reception, but GMA channels come & go. The TV is located in a partially open area (not fully surrounded by walls).

Yung SD digibox ng Sky merong RF out. Ang output nya same lang sa AV OUT so parang extension lang sya. Pag ikinabit yung RF out papunta sa 2nd TV tapos i-tune sa channel 3, lalabas yung same audio and video galing sa AV OUT. Pag nilipat yung channel, lilipat din sya.
Tingin ko ang gamit nito para dun sa sobrang lumang TV dati na wala pang RCA inputs. Naalala ko dati mga VHS player tsaka family computer RF out o kaya yung 300ohms flatwire antenna ang gamit tapos i-tune sa channel 3 yung TV.

I'm located in Marikina. Got one digibox 2 weeks ago for my house-help to use, since their CRT TV no longer has an antenna. So far, ABS-CBN channels have very clear reception, but GMA channels come & go. The TV is located in a partially open area (not fully surrounded by walls).

When you let it scan channels, you can see the frequency per channel found. Too gast to take notes. You can shoot a video and pause it.

Digibox, I read in your for sale ad that some people get solar channels with an external antenna. Can you ask them what kind of antenne the used? I am thinking of Yagi but fear losing other channels since that is very directional.
Also there is another f-connecter beside the antenna input. Can that be used for dual antenna setup?

I personally saw this antenna last year in ACE hardware - SM Hypermart Pasig. It has a motor that can be controlled remotely. Price was 995.

Got my 2 digiboxes yesterday but managed to try them out only this afternoon. Maganda ang clarity ng video kahit composite lang. 10 channels lang nasagap indoor dito QC wala pang ch 7. Siguro when I get the chance to get a better indoor antenna lalabas din yung ibang channel. Thanks to digibox for these gadgets!

i think he's selling the tv box and the sim is free. why? i've bought 1 box from him and the included 2 sim cards that are supposedly with P200 load each is almost half nalang. one is P99 and the other one is P110. nagamit pa yata yung load ng sim card kaya ko nasabi na yung box ang binebenta at hindi yung sim card dahil bawas na yung load. dapat nga yata 3 sim card with P200 load each ang included sa box, originally.
But that's ok with me, ang binili ko naman talaga yung tv box with or without the sim card, hindi ko rin naman magagamit yun eh. pinamigay ko lang din yung sim. but the tv box naman is in very good condition.
and i'm very satisfied, 1st time kong makapanood ng abs-cbn sa office ko for a very long time na super linaw talaga, puro gma 7 lang dati, hahaha. ngayon naman tempo. stop yata ang broadcast ng gma in digital, hahaha.

I got my unit and get only 10 channels with slightly better than cable PQ and i am wondering if an outdoor antenna will yield more and better results? How about if taking the supplied antenna outdoor and connecting a longer cable to the 5 meter supplied cable will greatly improve the reception ?
To those who are getting clearer and more channels, please post your set-up. It will be of great help to us who are still experimenting this unit. Thanks .

Got to test my unit here at Sta. Rosa Laguna near Enchanted Kingdom. 11 channels, mostly Abs Cbn, and TV5 (no GMA broadcast lately per latest posts) with indoor antenna inside my room. Signal:30; Quality:30 on info. No dropouts experienced.

Installed 1 unit at our field office (container van) using the supplied antenna na dinikit sa side ng van. Lumabas na yung GMA7 baka tinurn on na nila yung signal. 19 channels pero yung TV5 HD walang lumalabas.

Getting the same channels here in De Castro, Pasig + 4 channels from BEAM TV kahapon lang ata. Scan nyo ulit para madagdag. Gamit ko yung supplied indoor antenna. Nasa 2/F yung antenna ko, sa may hagdan..
Gusto ko din sana bumili ng external antenna. Meron ako nakita sa C*R-K**g - GT-863
ARCHER OUTDOOR ANTENNA mukang Yagi din. 25 dB gain nya sa UHF and meron built-in booster. Rotating din. Kaso di ko alam pano to ikakabit kasi naka-apartment lang ako. Also di ko din sure kung masasagap nya Solar channels dito sa area namin..

Nasagap ko rin yung NEC channel pero paulit ulit yung palabas (San Beda vs Mapua first half). Baka ito yung Aksyon TV sister company ng TV5.
BTW yung tv5_hd meron broadcast sa amin. The Chew yung huli kong nakitang palabas.

Lumabas na din yung 4 Beam channels pero nawawala signal ng GMA7, PTV and TV5. At least pag nagrescan ka di nabubura yung previous channels detected so yung slots ng digibox dito sa office is 23 na.

depende yata sa location yung mga nasasagap na channel. pag sa binondo ko ginamit yung digibox, kuha yung GMA7. pero pag sa valenzuela, walang signal yung gma7. kahit pa ikabit ko sa baron antenna. depende din kaya sa klase ng areal antenna yun?

May kasama po itong Indoor antenna, nasa 5m coax cable tapos yung dulo de-magnet yung antena parang pang wifi. Depende po talaga sa location yung sagap ng channel. Na-test ko itong nabili kong unit sa ibaba namin tv, nakasagap sya ng 10 channels tapos nun inilipat ko sa room ko sa 3rd floor using indoor antena nakasagap ng 21channels.
This serves only as our back up since naka Cignal HD po kame sa bahay.
So that means the higher the better? Kasi i live in a condo which only have Destiny cable crap SD! Sana nga. Bibili pa lang kasi ako.

extended my coax and scanned outdoors ground level... got almost 20 channels.. but not all are broadcasting.. will yry mounting antenna on 5th floor.

Yung sa akin nilagay ko yung default antenna niya sa bubong ng 4th floor (nsa 3rd floor yung tv and digibox) nakasagap ako ng 28 channels pero 23 channels lang ang makikita mo. Additional boast kaya ng signal yung magagandang antenna. Medyo mahal din kasi.

i think the supplied antenna is weather proof because it looks like the radio antenna of most cars. my honda jazz car antenna has some similarities with it.

Tried many types and the best is just to use the supplied antenna but extend the location to the highest area of your location with a coax cable.
Apparently this is so. Although di ko pa naset ng maayos yung GreenTek antenna compared to the included antenna, the latter is better. I have shipped units to Cebu sir, Lahug and downtown area. They told me they have abs cbn digital signal there. ABS-CBN office and studios are located in Mandaue while their TX is located in Busay, the highest point in Cebu City. I assume there is signal also in Mandaue City.

Tama sir, usually yung mga smart led tv ng devant ang meron ISDB-T capability. Hindi nga lang masasama yung ilang channel ng abs katulad ng yey, cinemo, radyo tv etc. Pero kapag maganda ang sagap ng signal marami kang channel na makukuha especially sa makati area.
Nagtataka lang ako 31 channel yung nasagap ko pero 23 channel lang ang nasa list. Sino ang naka experience nito. Anyone?

in my case 40 channels during scanning nade-detect. but sa list it's only 20 channels. haven't moved the supplied antenna. Supposedly there's solar channel, etc. available but can't get the signal.
I'm able to get 20 channels (though some are not accessible due to it being scrambled. or just a test broadcast. the ABS-CBN feed is better than the one on skycable. haha!) I live high up in a condo in makati. 25++ floors up..

Kailan lang naman kasi pinasok ang free antenna based digital broadcast dito sa atin eh. So malamang nyan, ngayon pa lang nagiging topic of conversation yan.
And while the broadcast of it may not be in HD, it manages to broadcast *for free* clearer images of local channels than some paid television subscriptions I might mention.

Rf out is if you want to output the signal of the box to your tv's antenna input. (Back in betamax/famicom days, usually sa channel 3 ito diba)
Re: hybrid mode - just for the heck of it, i tried my destiny cable's coax and placed it sa rf in nung box and scanned for channels - no go.

once IRR has been ironed out, then they will agree upon the type and function of digital boxes that they will release to the market.
they can add hd output. etc

ISDB-T na ang napagkasunduan na standard digital format, ang implementation na lang IRR ang kailangan para sa digital broadcast ng mga networks. Saka kailangan din ng Data Casting and Warning System tulad EWBS and BML na ilalagay sa mga digibox o kaya digital TV na ISDB-T ready.

Puede siyang gamitan ng outdoor antenna, pero backread ka ng konti recommended yata is yung mga UHF Antenna. Puede mo rin gamitin yung default antenna niya at ilagay mo sa ibabaw ng bubong, yun sa akin kasi ganun ang ginawa ko then i manage to get 31 channels pero 23 channels lang ang nasa list. Bandang Makati and Mandaluyong area mas maraming nasasagap na channel.

hi guys finally managed to get one yesterday from an olx member kayejamir 1400 lang with 2 sim wth 200 load each he do meet ups at lrt station 1 ata (not sure pero sa lrt carriedo stn niya mineet iyong inutusan ko :) )so far the item is good although wala ngang masagap na channel 7 btw my location is cavite pa ^_^

Gusto ko din sana bumili ng external antenna. Meron ako nakita sa C*R-K**g - GT-863
ARCHER OUTDOOR ANTENNA mukang Yagi din. 25 dB gain nya sa UHF and meron built-in booster. Rotating din. Kaso di ko alam pano to ikakabit kasi naka-apartment lang ako. Also di ko din sure kung masasagap nya Solar channels dito sa area namin..

Parang dejavu eto years back when Dream Satellite was still on it's old Satellite...ang dami kumalat na boxes and dish na can broadcast them like a free to air channel. After the switch of Dream Satellite to it's current naging useless na those boxes.

Only those, premium channels which they are trying to squeeze in will have the pay method "if they are granted under IRR"

Digital TV shift to start in five years
THE COUNTRY’S migration to digital terrestrial television standard (DTT) can be expected to start in about five years, with Metro Manila leading the way, a regulator said yesterday.
“We are targeting to release the IRR within the month, as we just have to finalize some minor details,” National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba said in a phone interview, referring to implementing rules and regulation.
“After the publication of IRR, next will be the migration plan or when to shut off analog TV. This will be by phase and for NCR (National Capital Region), the shift will be not more than five years from now... or by 2019,” Mr. Cordoba said.
“After the first phase, which is the NCR, the succeeding phases will be for provincial networks. This is because we still need to assure that provincial TV networks have enough budget for the building of infrastructure.”
Asked what the migration plan will entail, Mr. Cordoba replied: “It will include capital spending for networks, channel planning, frequency allocation, steps that they (networks) must undertake during the digital TV shift and also the phases and timetable.”
On Aug. 31, the NTC issued its draft IRR for the migration that requires broadcast companies to simulcast their DTT service and analog service within the first year of IRR implementation.
“No analog TV operation shall be allowed after the analog shut-off, which will be set by the agency,” the draft IRR stated.
According to Mr. Cordoba, analog shut-off is targeted to start by 2019 with NCR-based networks.
In addition, the draft IRR said that “a bandwidth of six megahertz (Mhz) shall be assigned for each authorized DTT service per service per area.” It also allotted the 512-698 Mhz (Channels 21 to 51) frequency bands for DTT.
The draft IRR said a “duly authorized DTT service provider shall have the option in its application to the Commission to adopt either single or multi-program HDTV (high-definition television) format or single or multi-program SDTV (standard-definition television) format or any combination thereof for its digital service.”
Aldrin M. Cerrado, chief financial officer of ABS-CBN Corp., said by phone on Friday: “We have already spent around P2 billion for infrastructure and it’s already built. We’re just waiting for the IRR. And if they said that we should already shut off analog now, we’re ready. Infra is there, we are ready to migrate.”

Got my digibox uhm, from digibox and I am very satisfied. Picture is SD quality but far more superior to what I was receiving before with Destiny Cable. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being HD quality / US DTV quality, PQ for this is an 8. ^-^
Below is the list of currently available channels from Metro Manila. From my location in Imus, I was able to get the ABSCBN, AKSYON and GMA channels with some minor tweaking.

MANILA, Philippines – Television viewers in Metro Manila may avail set-top boxes as early as the third quarter of 2014 as the country shifts from analog to digital TV, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) director Edgardo Cabarios said on Thursday.
Cabarios said the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) in adopting Japan’s integrated services digital broadcasting terrestrial (ISDB-T) is currently being drafted to begin the transition period.
He said as soon as the IRR is released, set-top boxes will also be made available to the viewing public—prioritizing residents of Metro Manila before catering to nearby provinces.
A set-top box is estimated to cost less than P1,000.
“Magiging available siguro ‘yung mga set-top boxes by the third quarter, kung mai-issue sa first semester ‘yung IRR,” he told dzMM.
He said consultations are ongoing to fast-track the shift to digital.
“Ang ginagawa ngayon ay ang implementing rules para maumpisahan na ‘yung transition. Pinaplancha na ‘yan ngayon at magkakaroon ng technical working group ang commission kasama ang lahat ng stakeholders para mapadali ang pag-promulgate ng implementing rules,” he said, adding that operations may begin by June if the process continues without a hitch.
“Iyan ang tina-target na timeframe para maumpisahan na ang transition kasi kailangang-kailangan natin mag-move sa digital television para ma-experience na ng ating manonood ang kagandahan ng digital television at magamit na rin early warning system,” said Cabarios.
The IRR will contain the specifications of the set-top boxes and a detailed timeline of the transition period.
Cabarios noted that when the US migrated to digital TV, it took almost 10 years. But with newer technology, Cabarios believes the Philippines can make the full transition in 3 to 5 years.
“Ang problema po ay ang laki ng investment na kailangan ng broadcast companies, ‘yun ang isinaalangalang sa pagda-draft ng IRR para ma-determine ang transition period…3 to 5 years ang tinitignan diyan,” he said.
The NTC has already ordered television stations to shift from the current analog to digital terrestrial television (DTT).
The Philippines chose Japan’s system mainly because of its integrated emergency warning broadcast system, which can be useful in typhoons, floods and earthquakes.

Uu tama pero sana may implementation na ang IRR para mapursige ang mga networks na magcomply. Meron na akong digibox pero gusto ko sanang bumili ng LED TV na ISDB-T ready. Usually mga Devant Smart LED TV ang capable.

Since 2nd unit ko na ito, i guess alam ko how to set it up dapat, but need help here, 1st unit ko kinabit ko sa tv na crt sa baguio using an old school outdoor antenna pa, napagana ko except di kuha all local channel. Now sa 2nd unit ko, kabit ko sa led tv, using destiny cable antenna pa, kaso search failed ako lagi, pls help.
Kasi sa logic ko, regardless whether outdoor antenna o naka cable tv ka, doesnt matter as long as nakabit mo antenna ng digibox and and red white yellow cables properly, syempre power also, super puzzled now why

Makati is okay but then again it is subject on location.
even if your location has good reception if you're in a enclosed condo unit, that will suffer signal reception.
you might need an antenna.
btw, there is a ISDB-T compliant antenna. not all designed antenna available in the market will help you get a better reception or worst no reception at all.
also, those digibox being sold in the market (legit or not) is not yet type approved. It may or may not work once the IRR is approved. what is sure is that features like EWB (Emergency Warning Broadcast) and datacasting is not present on those unit and cannot be upgraded OTA also. So, buy at your own risk.

if you bought one and working... don't expect all channels to be working as as expected, they will turn on and off while in test mode.
if you don't have need for cable channels, and no plans or funds for a paid service
once IRR is released,who knows. you still have at least a year give or take to use it.

Actually, even if youre a paid TV subcription customer, id still recommend this as a back up. Just in case there's no signal for what ever reason. Ive also seen other folks use this in their cars. And again, at the cost, di ka na makaka angal.

Rescan & find the sweetest spot for the supplied antenna bro. Kuha ko both GMA stations. The only drawback is parang may lag. Same with Aksyon TV & channel 5. Noticed it while watching the Ginebra - San Miguel game. I'll try to experiment with the antenna location as well.

Yes i agree...nakakakuha ako ng broadcast ng beam channels if yung original antenna lang ang gamit kahit nasa baba lang..but using the baron antenna na nasa taas ng bubong cant get that channels...but dor other channels clear talaga...so far so good.

Rescan kayo channels every few weeks. Nagaadjust kasi ibang stations. Yung GMA ko bumalik after scanning.

Dinala ko yung box sa Laguna near Quezon ok yung reception... I was able to get 13 channels. Pag dating dito sa Muntinlupa Soldiers Hills, naka scan ng 23 channels pero walang lumalabas na broadcast. Parehong yung supplied Antena lang ang gamit ko. Nakaka apekto ba ba yung wi-fi router sa signal?

After a few weeks of using baron antenna...I tried using its original antenna na nakalabas lang.. improved the strength and quality of abscbn channels and other channels. Just noticed that at strength of 37% and quality of 99% using the original antenna, lalong gumanda ang abscbn channel...I could not ask form more...very clear pictures..very alive color...picture perfect..really worth a try...lets go DIGITAL... sir yung aspect ratio will depend on what kind of TV you are using it with.
if wide screen (common for current LED flat panels)- use 16:9 or letterbox
if normal screen (common for CRTV) - use 4:3 or standard
am not certain, pero i recall parang may option yata siya for combo or mix. you can also use this.
best way is go to teleradyo DZMM channel. make adjustments from there. make sure the bottom ticker news line and sides are not cropped. then you'll know the best aspect ratio for your viewing.

I was asking how the different networks transmitted their programs. On what tv aspect ratio. . On my Cignal, only Net25 had the 16x9 aspect ratio. Abs cbn, gma and others had it on 4x3 but with black bars on top and bottom..

pyth the ISDB-T implementation of any local TV brand is incomplete daw. Best to wait for the NTC's implementing rules and regulations (IRR) before making a purchase. Worst what could happen is buying a TV with the basic ISDB-T tuner receive then having to buy a separate NTC-compliant ISDB-T tuner receiver.
Important years to remember
2007 - If you bought your TV on this year or earlier then you should really buy a replacement TV. Average upgrade cycle for TVs spans at most every 8 years.
2016 - To be more precise, late 2015 is when 4K Blu-ray discs and players will become available for sale making 4K TV sensible for home entertainment outside of connecting the the TV to a computer as a source.
2016 - Is the year the Philippines will start DTT broadcast in ernest.

actually a lot of folks already know na 700 lang ito sa mga promodizers ng abs cbn sa mga selected areas. Matagal nang balita ito sa mga ibang message boards.
I guess the reason why most folks here were willing to pay double was for convenience sake. Alangan namang tumambay kami dun sa mga areas na ino offer itong black box kung di kami taga doon. Lol!

sa ngayon sinubukan ko yung outdoor antenna kinabit ko sa digibox malinaw na malinaw at may function kc yung digibox na makikita mo kung gaano kalakas yung signal at quality ng nasasagap ng digibox. yung outdoor antenna ko kc is crystal clear, pero sa tingin ko kahit anong outdoor antenna pwede(opinion ko lang). ang napansin ko lang yung GMA7 at CH11 posibleng nasa test broadcast parin sila kc nuong saturday meron, sunday wala, pero pagdating ng monday meron uli.

Now, the elusive box can now be formally unveiled, and it’ll open you up to TV like you’ve never seen or heard it before!
This is the guarantee of ABS-CBN Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) as Pinoy televiewers start to make the exodus from analog TV to digital TV beginning this year.
The Kapamilya network is once again the first out of the gate with its DTT brand called ABS-CBN TVplus, set to be launched on February 11 with Pop Princess and “The Voice of the Philippines” coach Sarah Geronimo as endorser.
DTT is a technological evolution that uses digital signals for broadcast.

Indeed, Christmas came early and perhaps unexpectedly for the almost 100-strong DTT group. The announcement of the guidelines capped almost a decade of back-and-forth that began in mid-2007 when broadcasters such as ABSCBN were first allowed to test their systems in preparation for the digital switch.
Three years ahead
The Philippines decided to go with the Japanese Integrated Services Digital BroadcastTerrestrial (ISDB-T) platform in late 2013, but not before flip-flopping between it and Europe’s Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial.
In the end, ISDB-T won out, chiefly because of its affordability and emergency warning broadcast system (EWBS).
The entire DTT team up closeThe entire DTT team up closeHere’s how EWBS works, according to Alcedo: in case of emergencies, such as quakes or floods, the government will alert the broadcasters, for example ABS-CBN, to set off the emergency warning system. People will receive the warning through their set-top boxes— a.k.a. the “mahiwagang black box”—which will then display the information on the TV sets. This feature will be activated once the government is ready with the system.
As ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio Lopez III told The Philippine STAR in early 2014: “…We placed our bets early and have already invested in this standard. We are probably three years ahead of everybody else in terms of rolling out digital TV, so this should give us first-mover advantage as the country transitions from analog to digital.”
Meanwhile, households can prepare for the big switch by purchasing an ABS-CBN TVplus set-top box which will work with any TV model with RCA input.
Providing inspiration, innovation
As the pioneer group tasked with introducing a breakthrough service, ABS-CBN’s DTT division has made it their mission to “provide Filipino families and communities with relevant experiences of inspiration and innovation in their daily lives through our purposeful work and excellent digital content and services, thus significantly contributing to overall ABS-CBN business growth,” says Alcedo.
ABS-CBN TVplus holds out the promise of changing the way Filipinos look at TV, and Alcedo says it works both literally and figuratively.
“It’s literal in the sense that it will change from analog reception, which is cloudy and snowy, to crystal clear images and sound. At the same time, it’s an innovation that will open up new worlds to viewers because of the content from four additional channels that we are carrying on DTT. Magbabago ang tingin n’yo sa TV n’yo!,” Alcedo promises, quoting the ABS-CBN TVplus tagline.
The new channels illustrate how ABS-CBN TVplus strives to strike a balance between educational and entertainment offerings as encouraged by ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio, notes Alcedo.
The idea of plunking down a one-time affordable amount for their own “mahiwagang black box” and then turning on their television sets to find that CineMo, Yey, DZMM TeleRadyo and Knowledge Channel are now a part of their regular TV fare has been a source of wonder to households that already have been testing DTT.
“They couldn’t believe it. ‘What do you mean, I have these channels without paying a monthly fee? Are you sure?’ There was a bit of skepticism in the beginning. Once they understood how it works—‘Ah, kinakabit lang pala ang box’ or ‘Dyan pala nakukuha yung reception’—it really changed their whole perspective,” Alcedo shares.
“In some households, they’re saying it changed their lives. They stay home more often and watch it, especially the husband who is glued to CineMo. You can see the effect in the ratings. It’s exciting,” the DTT chief adds.

For homeowners, going digital is a painless process that entails nothing more strenuous than paying for the set-top box and attaching it to one’s TV set—even if it’s an early TV model with the jutting-out back.
“It’s that simple, it’s really just plug and play,” Alcedo assures.
On ABS-CBN and other broadcasters’ end, they will need to simultaneously broadcast both digital and analog signals within the first year of the implementation of the IRR as part of the migration plan. Once all households are digital ready, the analog shutoff will eventually be implemented.
The first phase of the migration plan will cover the National Capital Region, followed by provincial networks. In all, the transition will take about five years, according to the NTC.

yes, once you tune in to abs program it will initiate a FW upgrade and just follow the steps.
for now, OTA may have been put on hold pending the FW bug fix.

Hmmm. my daughter and my sister are the ones who always watch using the BB and they did not tell me anything about any unusual prompts on the screen when OTA initializes.

ABS-CBN TVplus may be available commercially starting February 11, but we advice everyone to take caution in buying such devices as it is still not compliant to the ISDB-T Philippine standards.
Please take note that the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has yet to release a Memorandum Circular for Standards and Specifications of ISDB-T recievers, which is seperate from the Implementing Rules & Regulations (IRR) of DTT Broadcasts.

Agree...and there was also a rumor that SkyTV+ is now currently having a next product in line na compliant na sa NTC ruling and with HDMI output na. So in my own opinion they were just selling those old stocks..
As well in the next few weeks or so..other well known brands (Sharp,Pioneer etc.) are about to release as well the NTC compliant Set-Top boxes.

naalala ko meron panahon uso saatin sa pinoy dvd media player.. that was around 4 years ago yata.. nag inquire ako sakanila... most of their media players may built in digital tuners.. cost was around 40 to 60usd

the problem is... etong isdb-t standard na na approve sa atin ay tinatawag nila na isdb-tph na iba sa mga standard na currently in use sa ibang bansa.
so ibig sabihin, kahit isdb-t device siya walang guarantee na mag work yan dito dahil iba and encoding at decoding nila.

The signal got stronger and the reception improved when I put the antenna indside the house than when it was outside.

Got myself another unit from Silicon Valley SM Manila at P 2.5T, except for the TV Plus sticker, same lang sya ng unit na nabili ko before kay Digibox before. Meron din pala kasamang isang ABS SIM card sa loob :)

Ask ko lang po. Sa lahat ng nakabili, ilan yung usual na naging total channels? Yung sa akin when I scanned and re scanned. Process of scanning mga 20 yung nakikita pero nung after scanning 15 lang ang lumabas. 2 pa sa channels dun ay repeated channels. Not sure if pano makukuha yung ibang channels.

I can get 23 channels here in Santa Rosa, Laguna . . . though there are channels na may E48 error n lumalabas, at least meron ABS 2, GMA 7, GMA 11 at TV5, dati meron PTV 4 pero wala n ngayon.
Mag rescan k n lang ulit baka lumabas din yung iba pero syempre, depende pa rin sa location mo.

Ask ko lang po. Sa lahat ng nakabili, ilan yung usual na naging total channels? Yung sa akin when I scanned and re scanned. Process of scanning mga 20 yung nakikita pero nung after scanning 15 lang ang lumabas. 2 pa sa channels dun ay repeated channels. Not sure if pano makukuha yung ibang channels.

walang problema dapat yan. pero dependent din sa placement ng antenna at sa type ng antenna na gamit. meron isang member dito, kinabit ang black box nya sa roof antenna, ang daming channels na nasasagap! ;D

It will have official launch Feb 11.
The catch on the tvplus... It will have the exclusive ABS channels that other isdb-t box will not be able to decode. Worst case you will have ABS channels only. It is purely for ka-pamilya box.
as for legality, it is up to the Gov't. who again pushed out the DTT implementation again up to 2020 instead of 2016.
So, there is still 5 years before that happens. meaning tvplus has ample time to serve your viewing needs.
as for the need, we have query that will complement DTH that does not have exclusive ABS channels.

31. Yung Digibox pwede bang gamitin kahit luma na yung TV ko (CRT)?
Compatible po ang ABS-CBN TVplus sa kahit anong klaseng TV – CRT or Flat Screen, bago o luma, pwede pong gamitin kahit anong model ng TV set basta may AV or RCA connector.
32. Pwede ba itong gamitin/install sa kotse?
Mayroon na pong nag-install ng ABS-CBN TVplus sa kanilang sasakyan ngunit ang ABS-CBN TVplus po ay designed para gamitin sa bahay na nakapirmi sa isang lugar lamang, at ang bundled accessories po ay para sa home use.
33. Yung TV ko may built-in na ISDBT mapapanood ko ba yung channels nyo?
Mapapanood po ang ABS-CBN TV & Sports & Action channels at ibang FREE TV channels na naka digital broadcast, subalit ang ibang channels – Cinemo, Yey, Knowledge Channel at DZMM ay hindi po mapapanood.
34. Hindi ko nagamit ang ABS-CBN TVplus ko for more than 30 days, pagbukas ko ng digiboxbox, wala na ang mga exclusive channels – Cinemo, Yey, Knowledge Channel at DZMM. Paano mababalik ang mga exclusive channels?

Magagamit po ninyo ang inyong ABS-CBN TVplus sa ibang lugar kung saan may coverage. Pinapayo po namin na ibalik sa “factory default” ang digibox at mag re-scan muli.

Pumunta sa SETTINGS, click INSTALLATION, click FACTORY DEFAULT, key in 0000, click YES.

remember, your signal is reception is affected by buildings, trees and other obstruction.
Only signal with high reliability is ABSCBN exclusive channels. others are on test broadcast still and is not reliable.

Yes sir..we have tv5...and it has programs shown...PBA lang ang meron sa TV5..yung iba ay mga test video lang...Its normal sir...it means mahina lang masyao signal.

Sir! yep i have Devant Ledtech tv and yes you are right na nakakasagap nga sya ng HD local channels.. may GMA nga din.. nauna lang talaga mag launch ung ABS? pero ung Cinemo, YEY, although nasasagap nya, walang picture kase parang need nya nung mismong box to access that. but ung channel 2, 23, 7 gma news, sometimes may channel 5 hd (lalo na nung Gilas, Papal visit) kuha nya. :)

The catch on the tvplus... It will have the exclusive ABS channels that other isdb-t box will not be able to decode. Worst case you will have ABS channels only. It is purely for ka-pamilya box...

I connected the TV Plus antenna to the Devant TV, indeed, Devant TV can capture some HD channels.
In comparison with ABS-CBN TV plus, Devant TV can capture most of the channels except exclusive channels such as Cinemo, Yey, etc.
So if you have devant TV, you are not missing much if you dont have TV Plus, all you need is a good antenna

Sir I agree with it. I noticed this also. Using the analog broadcast of GMA News TV on the built-in analog tuner of the TV, I get a more detailed picture compared to the digitally broadcasted GMA News TV on the SkyTV plus. I think its on the conversion ( analog ~ digital ) and compression of media to fit the desired resolution.

It's clearer in Devant. Devant 50" LED Full HD vs in Samsung Plasma 51" FullHD.
I was not able to test the TV plus connected to the Devant, I only used the antenna.

(the tv5 hd feed was showing a resolution of 1440x1080i while yung untv hd channel was 1920x1080i)

I even asked twice kasi nga I've read somewhere na 6mos lang.

Nakabili na din ako ng TV plus.. problem pag nasa loob kwarto ko walang tv5 at ch 7 at puro downloading yung exclusive channel (unang tv plus).. bumili ako kahapon ng barong antenna (extended version) at isa pang tv plus at kagabi lang nakuha din yung exclusive channels na hanggang ngayon yung isa na nasa baba eh puro downloading pa din.. nakakabit yung unang tv plus sa may luma naming antenna na may signal booster (may power adapter) kuha din naman channels pwera yung exc. channels
try namin ngayon splitter tong barong antenna para di na namin gagamitin yung isang antenna kasi may konsumo pa sa kuryente para lang magkasignal :(

I installed the black box sa Tagaytay, and malinaw yung GMA and ABS-CBN channels (though it can't find MYX). Na-detect also yung TV 5 and Aksyon, saka yung PTV4, but when I try to view, it says "E48 No Signal".

can i hook up my catv in the box also, aside from connecting the external antenna?
i will install the unit on the 16th floor of the condo, do i have to locate the antenna near the window?
what is the abs cbn mobile sim for?

ANT IN - external antenna should be connected here.
ANT OUT - can connect other devices that needs to use your external antenna such as FM receiver or other TV set or other MBB.
RF IN - wala yata nito..pls check
RF OUT - can be used if your TV doesn't have an RCA AV in.

NO.. your catv carries a digital signal but not in a format that can be digested by the MBB.

Depends on your location. place the antenna where you could get the best reception.
what is the abs cbn mobile sim for?
For now, abscbn mobile sim has nothing to do with the MBB. I just dont know their future plan.

i tried to update and scan my black box this morning for the 1st time, but it wont finish its update.
"downloading" will stop between 60% to 80% then a prompt saying "version error" would appear, then mag hang na siya..
anyone encountered this? i actually subscribed to the PPV fight, so i tried to update the box to see if "loaded" na yung PPV channel..

May tinuro yung officemate ko kahapon lang daw na-activate, pag pinindot mo yung red button (AUD) may lalabas na alternate menu parang information broadcast for abs cbn mbb channels.

Tingin ko sir walang effect yung satellite dish. Although pareho naman silang radio wave, magkaiba sila ng band tapos magkaiba pa ng format (DVB-S vs. ISBD-T) tsaka puro signal ng Cignal ang masasagap nya at di yun kayang idecode ng TV Plus.
I would guess na mas malakas pa sumagap yung kasamang antenna ng TV Plus kesa sa satellite dish.

Sa ngayon gamit ko yung mahiwagang blackbox connected to my Toshiba led tv pero yung pic quality niya mas malinaw pa kapag connected sa analog tv. May recommended ba kayong rca a/v cable na mas makakapag produce ng magandang pq? Salamat!

+1 same experience kahit sa smaller TV -- 21-inch CRT vs 32-inch FullHD LCD.
Tingin ko dahil di naman mataas ang resolution nitong blackbox tsaka SD lang yung broadcast. Wala lang noise yung picture kaya sobrang linaw sa low-res na display pero like any other low-res source, lalabo talaga pagdating sa hi-res display.
Ang napapansin ko nga parang compressed yung picture nya makikita mo pag transition malabo muna tapos lilinaw parang JPEG photo.
Anyway, ni-try ko sa LCD monitor na 1440x900 malinaw din sya kahit relatively hi-res tong display pero 19-inch lang.
Tingin ko dyan magre-release sila, soon, ng new box na may HDMI tapos i-broadcast nila yung ABS-CBN HD na nasa Sky/Destiny pa lang ngayon.

Pwede siguro sir yan, bili ka lang ng splitter. Ang setup ko sa bahay ay from outdoor antenna pagpasok sa bahay ay may splitter ako, one for the abscbn magic box sa sala and the other to my tv sa other room.

afaik pwede. make sure lang na makuha mo yung tamang splitter na covered yung both vhf and uhf frequencies. mas mahal ng konti yung pang vhf/uhf na splitter. naka indicate sa body ng splitter yung frequency range nya.

nasubukan mo ba gamitin yung baron antenna na nakakabit sa tv plus instead na yung supplied antenna? dati kasi ganun din sa amin, ang hirap makahagap ng lahat ng channels using tvplus' antenna. nung kinabit ko baron sa tvplus, ayun sagap lahat ng channels. hindi ko maalala yung last time na nawalan ng GMA or TV5 sa more than a year na ganyan ang set-up ko. pero syempre minsan it depends on your location kung malakas talaga digital signal ng GMA or TV5.

Any UHF Antenna. External is better kung mahina signal sa area nyo. May high gain antennas na useful kung malayo ka sa Metro Manila.

Ah ok sir. I have skycable hd naman. Gusto ko lang ma test kung gumagana ang digital tv ng lg ko.
Try ko muna manghiram ng antenna ng tv plus. Meron signal ang tv plus sa area.

May in-line amplifier ang ibang antennas ng ganyan na DTV tuner boxes. Possible na hindi magwork ng maayos with TVs kung meron since kailangan may power from the receiver to run the amplifier.

Not sure pero nung ginamitan ko dati ng laserdisc player yung AVR ko noon doon yata sa video/monitor out lumalabas yung video playback so there is a separate video cable (yellow) akong ginamit.

Pang-asar lang sa bahay kasi sa sala naka Sky, sa may kusina naka Blackbox tapos pag pareho ang pinapanood na palabas delayed yung blackbox kaya nakakairita na madinig mo yung audio na umuulit.

I own a TV with isdbt built-in, hindi ko ma-access yung exclusive channels ng ABS-CBN black box, do you thing there would be a way to access them by paying a one time fee to ABS-CBN (outlet)? I do not like Digi-Box since it would just add-up cluttered wires and consume a separate electric power... Do you think this is possible?

I own a TV with isdbt built-in, hindi ko ma-access yung exclusive channels ng ABS-CBN black box, do you thing there would be a way to access them by paying a one time fee to ABS-CBN (outlet)? I do not like Digi-Box since it would just add-up cluttered wires and consume a separate electric power... Do you think this is possible?

i don't think it's possible. not unless abs-cbn would broadcast the channels without encryption.

since test broadcast pa rin naman lahat ng channels, then it's possible may ginagawa si abs sa end nila. i've also seen other forums na nakita nila yung exclusive channels but temporary lang din.

It happened only when abs-cbn conducted maintenance works. I'm not sure it can be hacked.

unfortunately yung mga latest boxes (4th gen na ata) wala na talagang hdmi. not sure kung bakit tinanggal. i have both the 3rd gen (hdmi) and 4th gen, parehas lang talaga sila except for that hdmi port.

Yes TV plus ang gamit ko sa sasakyan namin. Parang same lang ang digibox sa tvplus pero may ibang premium channel ang tvplus na puwede mo iavail.

the people behind easybox is Solar , they compete channels kaya yey of abscbn or fox wont show sa easybox.
until they strip down exclusivity per vendor, mukhang either or lang ang channels that is not free to air
