Title: iflix (Netflix-like service for the Philippines)
Post by: Mr. Hankey on May 25, 2015 at 08:33 PM
iflix is like the Philippine Netflix. It will supposedly cost only $3 a month. They're currently on test run. I signed up to receive news, and got a 1 month free preview. They carry few shows right now, but the list isn't bad - Friends (complete), Big Bang, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Black Sails, How I Met..., South Park, Mom, Arrested Development, The Office (UK), Spartacus, Awkward, It's Always Sunny..., Sherlock, Arrow, The Americans, The Closer... quite a good selection! There are movies, as well - fairly new things like LOTR, Batman Begins, Sucker Punch, Watchmen, and Transformers; and classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Godfather Trilogy, Speed, Species, Harry Potter, No Way Out, etc.

Here's a screen grab of the first thing I watched. Their FRIENDS is widescreen:

Anyway, sign up now if you want, they'll probably give you a one month trial period for free, as well.

Oh, to answer a question I'm sure is on some people's minds: I just checked out an episode of Spartacus, and the nudity and violence is intact.

It works well on three platforms for me: desktop PC, iPad, and Samsung Galaxy S5. No buffering on any! But I am on Fibr 8Mbps.

I heard that as well. That's what worries me about iflix. I hope PLDT doesn't throttle our torrents to make sure we subscribe to iflix. :(

I can't find a way to make the videos play on my default media player on my phone. App doesn't give an option to stream to a media player box like WDTV Live.

How about for iOS users with Apple TV?

Tnx a lot, was it shipped directly to your residence or did you picked it up at the post office? Also how long did the shipping took?

The postman delivered it. Malapit lang kasi sa amin ang post office and it took almost 2 weeks from the day I ordered it to delivery. The item was shipped from Guangdong Province, I think..

Btw, this looks like a Malaysian company no?

Malaysian?  If so, are their operations here legit?  Can we fear that being denied to us by the Lopezes' SKYCable?

If they are really Malaysian, how do they get away with skirting tight censorship laws across Asia (particularly when it comes to cable content)?

how do they get away with skirting tight censorship laws across Asia (particularly when it comes to cable content)?

The censorship laws seem absent when it comes to streaming online content. You can watch Game of Thrones on HBO Asia at the same time that it airs on the East Coast in the States, but it's the censored Asian version. However, if you access it a few hours later via online streaming on HBO Asia's HBO Go service, you get the uncensored U.S.-aired version.

Quote
"HBO GO’s broadband streaming service allows users to enjoy over 1,000 hours of uncut award-winning HBO and CINEMAX Original content on multiple devices including computers, tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android) anywhere, anytime. Subscribers of HBO GO will be the first to watch critically acclaimed HBO and CINEMAX Original series such as Game Of Thrones, True Detective, Girls, Veep and Strike Back, 12-hours after they premiere in the U.S...."

My free trial lapsed and di ko man lang nagamit. It's kind of useless when you CAN'T stream the show to your TV.

For me, the free trial has been very useful, since there's Wi-Fi at the hospital that I work in, so I can continue watching whatever I was watching at home on my iPad between procedures. I'm considering actually subscribing once my free trial is done.

Of course I say this NOW since most of the shows I watch are off-season...

What i did was to hook up my laptop to my tv, medyo troublesome nga lang dahil need to click play on every episode. Also you could really see na ang baba ng resolution ng shows, pero ok lang whenever i get home from work i watch shows from iflix na.

So my trial period just expired, tried subscribing with them through our pldt account para 99/month lang instead of the 129/month, problem is enrollment doesn't push through naka ilang ulit na ako puro hold on to your money ang labas.

The pldt account is in my wife's name while the iflix subscription is in mine meron bang bearing yun? although same email add ang ginamit sa subscription and pldtmyhome account.

Ito sinagot sa akin:

"If you’d like the complimentary access to iflix as a PLDT fibr subscriber, here's what you can do.

Go to your "Settings" page, click "Get Access Now". From there, scroll down, and you'll see 3 options for PLDT. Click any of the 3 options. You'll be directed to a PLDT portal where you'll be asked for your account details. After you submit and enter your account details, PLDT will recognize that you're a fibr subscriber and you'll be sent a notification. At that moment, you'll be rerouted back to iflix and you'll be able to watch your movies!"

Wala pang "Get Access Now" sa "Settings" page ko, so I guess I'll have to wait until my free trial expires.

PLDT home gave me a 2-year complimentary pass to Iflix movies. Activated it last weekend and was able to watch movies. Connected laptop via HDMI to Plasma 51, video display is close to a DVD rip movie. Di talaga sya HD output. Sound format is PCM kaya you don't get DTS output. Plan to use projector pero baka masyado snowy yung effect. Has anyone tried to watch Iflix using 1080p HD projector?

Comments anyone? TIA.

Sa 1080p LED TV lang, and hindi talaga sya HD.  Better quality pa yun mga non-HD torrent na TV shows and movies.  Still, okay na for me.  I am a subscriber since the added Conan.

Looks like only the Tagalog version of Daimos has been uploaded. Hopefully the English episodes will follow.

I watched a few episodes of Voltes V, and this is the best I've ever seen the series. Jaggies are visible on larger screens, but nothing as bad as the encoding artifacts on the old VCD versions.

There's a lot of good stuff on iFlix these days. I'm working my way through "The Closer" and "Homeland". The download option is handy and the file sizes are manageable. Too bad Netflix hasn't jumped on the bandwagon yet.

Just got my voucher for a 30 day trial + 1 year free subscription through PLDT. I just emailed iflix support, gave them my PLDT plan details and they sent me the voucher.

1 year free subscription to iflix is made available to HOME Fibr, HOME DSL Famplan 1299 and up, and HOME Ultera subscribers.

Permanent na ba ang free iFlix sa mga PLDT subscribers? I was surprised na active pa rin yung iFlix ko. It was supposed to expire last February 2018.

Wala. When I applied for PLDT's DSL 1299 promo a few years ago, free yung iFlix for 1 year yata. Then the subscription expired Feb 2017. I redownloaded Iflix sa phone ko a week ago  just curious kung may mga new movies. Was surprised na nakalagay iFlix VIP ako. Wala naman sa current bill ko. And ayoko sana mag inquire sa PLDT baka bawiin hehehe....But I may ask them tomorrow. Baka nga kasi biglang ma bill ako eh.

nag avail naman ako last year ng iFlix, may promo kasi 50% discount for the whole year parang 600+ pesos lang. until Feb. 2018 lang dapat yun pero until now nagagamit ko pa hehe. yun lang hindi ko naman gano nagagamit kasi may Netflix ako. wala naman bill sa citibank ko, which I used to avail of the promo.
