It's been awhile since I've read up on NMTs.
Anyway, what are the new NMTs that can play 4k / Ultra High Def? What would you recommend?
1) Popcornhour VTEN (approx P9,000+)
2) ??
3) ??
By the way, do you know if any new NMTs can play netflix? I still use an appleTV to play netflix (so additional player pa).
Thanks

I am loving the Himedia Q10
-
Mind if I ask around how much you got it for and where? Thanks
-
I bought it outside the Philippines then sold a few here at PDVD.

All units were taken already.
I appreciate the regular firmware update and the active forum at Futeko.

Another one to consider: Nvidia shield console

Locally available that I could recommend are...
Rank 1: NVidia Shield Android TV
Rank 2: Popcorn Hour VTEN
Rank 3: Zappiti Media Player
Rank 4: Open Hour by Popcorn Hour
But if you could source the HiMedia Q5 or Q10, they're the best in terms of (video/audio)playback compatibility... But if your main priority is picture quality, build quality and top notch user interface... then I highly recommend the NVidia Shield :)
-
Thanks to those that posted.
By the way, meron ba sa mga na post nyo ang pwedeng mag play ng iflix? (www.iflix.com)
I am already using netflix to watch videos pero baka mag iflix din ako since mura lang naman and baka mas mabilis since malapit lang sila sa Pinas.

Just got a 4k TV
Planning to get a media player with 4k capabilities and can support external hard disk. Even limited or no smart capabilities. Even no 3d. Important only is it can upscale my videos to 4k.
Or shall I just wait for a 4k bluray player
-
One more question nga pala...
My media player will be connected to my receiver then receiver to my PJ, if this is the case, the video and audio processing is being done by my receiver, right? now, the only way to use the media player's video processing is to directly connect the media player to my PJ (considering that the media player has better processing than my receiver)...
the problem now is, how about the audio processing? how can it be processed if there's no digital out except the HDMI out of the media player?

Yup, di sila masyado nagkakalayo sa price... can it play 4K resolution ba and decode dolby atmos if i use it mainly for movie viewing with very minimal gaming? kaya ba nya mag-handle ng large files or large external hard disk capacity?

Yes indeed, but my question is if the media player (Nvidia Shield) is directly connected to the PJ via HDMI, then how am i going to connect it to the receiver for audio processing?

Just connect the NVidia Shield via HDMi to the AVR and disable all hdmi video processing of the AVR. Its like HDMI video passthrough...

Yes. Right now I just plug my 1 terabyte external hard drive to the usb slot and it plays all types of media including mkv. Although the interface is nothing great. But I don't mind getting a dedicated media player as long as it has better 4k up scaling. Is there such a thing? Or should I just wait for a 4k Bluray player.

Agree!!!
Please give some detailed review on the H8, it will be a great help for those who are planning to buy media players especially me, im choosing between VTEN, H8 and Shield :)
-
This I want to read.
I personally find the Q10 better than the Q8.
My personal take is that the Q10 has had more time for software development resulting to better PQ and SQ than the Q8. This is also a observation of most in the Futeko forum.
Please elaborate your finding that Q8 is the best at this time.
Best 4K media player is the HiMedia H8.

My Med8er1000x3D died yesterday. :(
We returned from Christmas vacation...and i turned on my AVR and my line conditioner to power up my TV and HT system.
After 10 seconds, i saw white smoke coming out of my Med8er...it was as if it was vaping.
Immediately unplugged it...and i am assuming it is dead and barbecued. :(
Recommend a replacement please...although, i do like the NVidia. Can get it a little bit cheaper in Amazon.

A little OT, im currently playing my 4k files using my tv's built in player. And my tv is connected to my receiver via ARC. Is this ok or am I missing a lot and will there be an improvement if I get a dedicated 4k player? Thanks guys.

Torn between q8 and h8. Now thinking of the shield
All I want is something that can play all types of files and I mean all. Plus it has to have network capabilities so I can use Netflix. I use my smart 4k TV usb to play files and so far it does play mkvs but it choses the 4k it wants to play. It doesn't have Netflix though so I use my ps3 to stream. I want an all in one device. A good ui will be great. It's OK even it doesn't have option for internal hard disk.
Must: plays all files (4k 30 and 60 fps) mkvs iso. and all. Internet capable so I can install Netflix. Good user interface. Can accept external hard drive up to 2 tb
What is the best option for me
-
i'm also eyeing the nvidia shield for the simple reason of support from nvidia, google, and community developers.
-
MX 3 can do 4K allegedly. Wifi 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, bluetooth, OTG, SD card slot, Optical out, LAN, HDMI, AV out and only costs 2.8k in Lazada. Can install from Google Play. Basically a smartphone without phone signal.
-
Got the vten instead of the shield. No need for game streaming. A little disappointed with the remote though no big deal.

No fireworks coming from a med1000x3d. Im just after the 4k and the stability of pch. I can see some improvements in pq compared sa mede8er.
Video scraping is ok and got my videowall up and running after a day. I have to manually rename my 3d files so it will play automatically.
Still checking how to scrap titles for my music collection as it scrapped album fanart wrong. Renaming would solve though.
I was about to get the H8 but it was demoed in a 32 in 720p tv. H8 is smooth though probably because of its oct core procie.

Exactly.
You can buy a lenovo Celeron Braswell laptop for less than 10k brand new. 500GB with screen keyboard usb ports etc etc.
This makes more sense that buying a box NMT. You have the flexibility to run any OS you want and plus the fact that it more fixable than box NMT.
YOu can even run a torrent client and act as a NAS if you want it to.
-
I went the Nuc celeron route since I wanted Netflix in hd , for my dedicated nmt. As only a handful of the android players (nvidia shield , wetek ) had the capability , almost all (minix , hi media, etc ) were limited to sd resolution for Netflix .

guys im going to the route of 4k and Atmos, so far I have upgraded my receiver to Denon1200 and next week will scoring Samsung 6600 UHD. What's left is to upgrade my Measy NMT, I need the following features:
- Atmos / Dtx capable
- can play H265
- 4k ready and can upscale
- User interface like xbmc
the 4th one medyo dinagdag ko kasi for the longest time na ginagamit ko yung Measy naka folder list lang ako lagi, gusto ko sana yung parang XBMC na may poster ang movie, synopsis at minsan meron pang preview.
Thanks in advance! oh btw, money is an object so not going to spend more than 10k.

Hi guys. I'm looking to upgrade from my popcorn hour A400.
So far what is the best 4k capable nmt right now in terms of PQ and AQ? thanks in advance.
I'm only going to play through an external hard drive. Priority is PQ & AQ. No need for online apps.
Nvidia Shield?
Himedia?
Etc..
-
^
1. NVidia Shield
2. HiMedia Q10 / Q5
This is based from my personal experience...
-
Hi sir Louie thanks for the reply.
I might purchase Nvidia Shield :)
My popcorn A400 can't play mkvs/remux/bd/iso with truehd audio properly. It would have audio dropouts throughout the whole movie even with all the firmware updates. On the other hand, files with DTS-HD play fine.
As for the audio quality the A400 is just ok. I'm surprised that my much cheaper Mede8er 500X2 has more immersive audio than the A400.
Are there still bugs in playing video files in Nvidia Shield? Is the ISO playback ok now?
Would you say the AQ on the Nvidia is also the best based on your past NMTs?
Thanks :D
-
^
I'M not sure sir if iso files is playable via Kodi if installed on the NVidia Shield...
-
^Thanks sir. But how about the bluray AQ (truehd/atmos/dtshd) of the nvidia shield? Can you say it has the best audio of all the nmts you've tested?
-
Question, wala na bang media player ngayon na bago to play 4k and the new audio formats like atmos yet capable of full blu ray menu din.
I have an existing c300 popcorn hour that plays full bd. But do i have to buy another player like nvidia shield or hi media q10 just to play 4k eventually when i get my 4k capable tv? Or is there something i can buy that will fit both?
Thanks
-
^Thanks sir. But how about the bluray AQ (truehd/atmos/dtshd) of the nvidia shield? Can you say it has the best audio of all the nmts you've tested?
AQ is not a function of the media player as it will just "pass-thru" the digital audio data stream to your AV receiver. You just need to know if the media player will support "pass-thru" then your AV receiver will do the rest.
-
^Thanks sir. But how about the bluray AQ (truehd/atmos/dtshd) of the nvidia shield? Can you say it has the best audio of all the nmts you've tested?
Sound/Audio Quality will be highly dependent on your AV Receiver because the NVidia Shield will just bitstream the digital audio file (HD Audio=ATMOS/TrueHD/Master Audio) to your AV Receiver and your AV Receiver will be the one who will decode and convert it to analog and amplify to your speaker ;)
What you could do is make sure to use high quality HDMi Cables to eliminate Audio and Video dropouts...
Based from my experience, I had to replace my generic HDMi cable becuase I was having audio dropouts when playing movies with ATMOS audio format.
Hope this helps ;)

After checking out forum posts and the company websites, I plan to get either the Minix Neo U1, Minix X8 Plus or Himedia H8. Yung basic need ko is for 4K resolution, speed and variety of online movies/channels. Ang downside lang is my location dahil hindi gaano mabilis ang internet as it varies between LTE and 3G during sessions (I'm using Smartbro pocket wifi at the moment).
For those who have tried both units, which has better PQ, AQ and speed among the three? Also, pardon my ignorance as I'm not very familiar with Android, but what's the basic difference between the 4.4 kitkat and the 5.1 lollipop versions?
-
Among the three you mentioned the U1 uses the latest chipset in the Amlogic S905. It also has the best wifi among the three. It supports 80211ac 2x2 MIMO. If you have an ac router with 2x2 MIMO support you'll have no problem streaming wirelessly. Other users here have also commented on the range of its wifi.

That is about right. I have ordered stuff direct from China and it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to clear our local post office.
The fastest is 3 weeks. Hunted my package at the local post office for a Registered Air parcel.
If you do not hunt for it. It takes 4 to 8 weeks. depends on the number of packages that are backlogged at our local post office.
There is only a single guy writing claim stubs at your local post office.
Lazada has someone that knows how our post office works and able to clear the package 3 weeks if it is a registered Air parcel.
If it is regular/standard mail. Good luck.

Lazada have third party sellers. Youll notice it if it says the the "item is shipped from abroad"
In short, Lazada is really just a sellers platform. Where sellers advertise their products and sell.
What lazada provides is a guarantee that you wont get scammed in case your order did not arrived.
I am just telling my experience when I ordered direct from China and did not use Lazada.
Chinese sellers usually ship it either by standard mail or registered Air parcel. When it gets here in our postal system. There is no guarantee they would deliver the items to you. Our local postal system is erratic. Sometimes they deliver items to your doorstop sometimes they send you a claim stub.
My experience is that the local postal system has a reliable tracking system. The Chinese sellers usually just show you that the item is in our local system by tracking it online, and say that you wait or claim it/hunt for it. What happens in our local postal system. the Chinese seller is not liable.
Unless Lazada do the logistics itself. The above situation applies. The delivery date is based upon statistics of how long a parcel arrives in the Philippines through China mail post.
Good thing you can complain to lazada if it breaks it promise.

+1 talagang pupuntahan mo ang claim stub. If you want to get it earlier. Make friends with your post office sender ng stubs.

Ask lang. Subject for tax pa rin ba ang orders sa lazada? Plus 120 handling fee pa sa post office pala. Gas and effort pa papuntang post office. Last time kuha ko kasi. 1200 daw ang tax pag may resibo. Worth 50usd lang ang binili ko. Kinausap ko nalang. Buraot ang customs sa amin

Did you ask Lazada how will the product be delivered?
If you have to claim it at your local post office. 120 pesos. and they will ask you what is inside the package. If you answer something that can be taxed then there is a chance you will get taxed right there.
If you have to claim it sa Domestic road, Postal/customs accessment center then expect it be taxed.
Btw, did you get a tracking number from Lazada if the item is coming from China?

I've ordered several items from Lazada in the past that were sourced internationally. I only paid what was indicated in the website. There was no added taxes in the cost and the items were delivered to my residence. The buying experience was the same as locally sourced items only the delivery leadtime was longer.

Are the delivery guys from the post office? Or Lazada itself does the delivery?

I've bought mostly electronic items - bluetooth stereo earphones, Minix A2 remote, iPega bluetooth game controller. These are what I can remember off the top of my head. It was Lazada's delivery service that delivered the items to my doorstep. Individually they cost P2K or less. It's less of a risk ordering from Lazada since they are ones guaranteeing your shipment. If the shipment doesn't arrive you can raise a complaint. I have first-hand experience with them reversing a charge on my cc for an item that did not arrive.

Hi
Anyone know/tested an android box that supports 10-bit 4K playback and HDR?
Sent from my SM-N910C using Tapatalk
I recently bought a HiMedia Q10 Pro ... this one I believe is their only model that supports 4k and HDR ... there are a lot of media players now that support 4k but not HDR ... I haven't done a lot of testing though, probably this weekend, it's only 2 days old ... I do not have a tv that supports 4k though, still waiting for OLED prices to go down steeply :)
I'll be testing it on Samsung Plasma TV this weekend

Here's the updated list of streamer reviews by avforums (as of November 13, 2016) https://www.avforums.com/homecinema/reviews/network-video-streamers.29#page4 (https://www.avforums.com/homecinema/reviews/network-video-streamers.29#page4) with the NVidia Shield getting the highest rating of 10 followed by the Zidoo X9S, Wetek Hub, Minix Neo U1, Asus ChromeBox, Minix Neo Z64W all getting a rating of 9. A slew of 8 rated players follow including the Himedia Q10 Pro, Popcorn Hour A-500, Wetek Core and Minix Neo X6 among others. Of course this is just one website that comes out with reviews and you may find others with different ratings on the mentioned players above, in the end it's up to the buyers to decide which one is the best for them.
Hope this helps if not totally confuse ;) those who are looking for a new media player.

ayos pala Zidoo X9S ah.

they didn't consider the player's respective SRP's. so I think Wetek Hub should be 10 (as it is cheaper compared with those others) on its price range.. =))

Nvidia Shield is the best! kaya nga wala nang mga stock and nagtaasan na mga presyo buti na lang nakabili ako nung mababa pa ang price
