Title: Opinions: Sonus Faber Chameleon Bs
Post by: jurgenestanislao on Dec 20, 2015 at 11:49 AM
Guys,

Looking for new speakers that would be better suited for my listening. I usually listen to jazz, blues, vocals, and some soft rock.

Heard about the Sonus Faber Chameleon Bs, any opinions? If not, any speaker recommendations for my kind of listening?

Using a Cayin A-55TP as an amplifier, and an RP6/PL-570 as sources.

Thanks,

Jurgen

From a Sonus Faber standpoint, their butt ugly

Can not recommend any as their is a TON of speakers that can make you happy, you really need to audition them using your amp and room if possible

These are small bookshelf speakers/mini monitor speaker. Single driver but the tweeter built into the center of the woofer like a COAX speaker. I found them a bit hard to drive but very musical. You need to position them 2meters away form the rear wall to get the best sound.

Saw this on sale at Listening In Style at 40k. Is this a good one already or I can get a better one at that price point. I'm looking for BS for my NAD power/preamp set up.

only an audition at LiS can answer your question. but for more or less the same budget, I'd also recommend the following:

Revel Concerta2 M16
SVS Ultra Bookshelf
Martin Logan Motion 15
GoldenEar Aon 2
KEF LS50

Paul/tein and I think Marc/avshop too. Egghead also carries Revel in their new Shangrila branch.

Not single driver, actually 2 drivers but woofer and tweeter have the same axis (coax, dual concentric).

Agree that this speaker is a hard load, but given enough juice - this will sing the nuts off any music afficionado :)

I had a look at the specs of your Cayin A55TP and the SF Chameleon B. your A55TP is capable of 4 ohms output and is also within the Chameleon B's SUGGESTED AMPLIFIER POWER OUTPUT of 30W – 150W. this combination might just work. :D

I am not a fan of The Cayin A55 being paired with Sonus Faber, Harbeth, PSB or Xavian. It sounds anemic and lacks a punch. The best speaker that matches your Cayin are usually ribbon tweeters like the Aurum Cantus V3M or LSA1 Statement. We also paired the Golden Ear bookshelf back then with Cayin, that combination also works nicely. Well these are just my opinion.
