Freeform, the channel formerly known as ABC Family, has ordered a straight-to-series run for Cloak and Dagger, based on the Marvel Comics characters created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. Cloak is Tyrone Johnson, while Dagger is Tandy Bowen; in the comics, both were teenage runaways who were captured by the organized crime syndicate known as the Maggia, and are used as test subjects and injected with synthetic heroin, which imbues them with abilities related to light and darkness. Calling themselves Cloak and Dagger, they act as vigilantes, declaring war on drug crime, while occasionally teaming up with other superheroes like Spider-Man.

However, since the series is on the Freeform channel, it's skewed to a younger audience, as the official synopsis shows:

This exciting new series is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart--but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

It's currently unknown if the series will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger Showrunner Revealed, Series Delayed
November 12, 2016

The Hollywood Reporter brings word on development for Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, the new TV series announced for the channel Freeform (formerly ABC Family), revealing that writer Marvel’s Daredevil writer Joe Pokaski has been tapped as the series showrunner.

With the good news must also come bad, as the outlet also reports the series has been delayed and will now debut in Winter 2018.

Unnamed sources at Marvel report that Noah Gray-Cabey and Debby Ryan have been cast as the lead characters in Cloak and Dagger. Noah is best known as Micah Sanders in Heroes, while Debby is a teen actress who had regular roles in various Disney TV series.

Marvel has officially announced the casting of their heroes Cloak & Dagger for the upcoming series with actor Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of, Run All Night) and former Disney Channel star Olivia Holt (I Didn’t Do It) cast as the title heroes, Tandy Bowen, a.k.a. Dagger, and Tyrone Johnson, a.k.a. Cloak.

^looks good, but I'm not holding my breath. This is the Freeform channel after all, whose target demographic is young women in the 14-34 age range.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger Cancelled After Two Seasons at Freeform

Ahead of the premiere for Cloak & Dagger’s highly-anticipated crossover episode with Marvel’s Runaways, Deadline reports that Freeform has unfortunately decided not to give their Marvel superhero series a third season renewal. The cancellation also comes in the wake of executive producer Jeph Loeb’s impending departure as the head of Marvel Television.
