Challenge accepted! :)

Today, I found myself going to eHome to take on the "guinea pig" challenge of testing and writing a (unprofessional) review of the Wetek Hub android media player. ;D

So, for those who are interested about this nifty gadget...stay tuned or subscribe as we go in depth on the details of this unit O0

Title: Wetek Hub Review
Post by: stickfighter on Sep 29, 2016 at 10:21 AM
Like all reviews, lets start with the UNBOXING of the Wetek Hub :)

The Wetek Hub is very well packaged. Enclosed in a very hard decent box with a slip case sleeve. Inside the box, every single component of the Wetek Hub is securely tucked in their respective compartments and are individually wrapped with plastic. It also comes with a quick start guide(http://www.pinoydvd.com/Themes/default/images/post/thumbup.gif)

Impressions:
The Wetek Hub is one of the smallest Android players I have seen by far measured at almost 2.8 inches square. The unit itself is cute and very well built. It is not light and flimsy, but solid and has some weight to it. Made of hard plastic and metal internal parts, the hub has a matte finish with the Wetek logo having a glossy finish. The remote control unit (RCU) has a smooth matte finish and feels good as I grasp it on my hand. Its light and is made of hard plastic. The RCU requires Two (2) AAA batteries, which are not included. You have the option to use the RCU either as a D-pad or as an air mouse. Also comes with a power adapter which includes worldwide compatible plug adapters, IR extension cable, HDMI cable and RS232 cable.

The Wetek Hub is reasonable priced at Php5,500 and is exclusively distributed by eHome Trading at their shop located at Annapolis Street, Greenhills at the ground floor of the Annapolis Wilshire Plaza Bldg.

Impressions:
I own two NMT players...namely, the Egreat R6A-II and a Med8ter 600X3D. Both media players don't come close to the PQ/AQ of the Wetek Hub. The clarity of sound and vibrant colors that the Wetek can produce is simply awesome.

In terms of navigation, this player is really fast. The response of the Wetek to the remote is fast, so as long as you point it directly at the unit. The remote works best on its D-pad option. As for the Air Mouse option, it sucks. The air mouse option is slow and can only be moved up, down, left or right. I am not an air mouse user and still prefer the D-pad, so it is not an issue for me.

The thumbnail feature of the player is cool. It does not only give you the images of your movie library, but will also give you the synopsis of the film and then some.

I did test a number of films with different audio formats to see if the Wetek hub can output DTS, DTS-HDMA, Dobly Digital and Dolby Digital TrueHD. And guess what...??? The Wetek did not let me down...

Conclusion:
The Wetek Hub used as a media player is superb. Awesome PQ/AQ from such a small machine vs that of my Egreat and Med8ter. Navigating the player is FAST!!! The machine itself is fast. From standby mode till it boots up is approximately 22 secs. Yes, that includes reading your HD attached. While in use, I touched the player to feel if it heats up, and it doesn't. User interface is very friendly and easy to understand. I can attest to this, as I am an iOS fanatic. Overall, I am glad I have this player. I am happy with its performance, speed and ability to output different digital audio formats. So if you're looking for a good media player...I highly recommend the Wetek Hub :)

Points to consider: The Wetek Hub has only 1 USB port.
1. I tried to connect my ProBox containing 4 x 2TB HDs and the unit was unable to read/detect it. (Will further test this out using LibreELEC)
2. We, (Tirso & I), tried to use a USB hub connecting 3 external HDs and it was only able to read/detect 2 out of 3. We tried to play 13hrs and while we were watching, the movie stopped and the unit suddenly booted up.
3. I connected a single HD. The unit read/detected it and when we watched 13hrs again, it played it continuously with no issues whatsoever.

STAY TUNED...MORE REVIEWS TO FOLLOW...

i was wondering what is the purpose of the double adhesive tape until you mentioned Wetek can be installed behind the tv. Please test this feature extensively as this is the only player I heard of that comes with this feature.

hi, sir.  congrats having this opportunity for review!

when you start testing/reviewing its performance, kindly include as well its capability to pass-thru ATMOS & DTS:X audio with equally capable AVR.

Also with below movie materials too:

Yes, given the compact size of the Wetek Hub, it maybe the only Android player that can be securely attached behind the panel of your TV using the double adhesive tape supplied, so as not to be seen. This is why it comes with a 2 meter IR extended cable. However, why would you want to hide this awesome looking little Hub? I won't...but that's just me O0

Thank you sir. Unfortunately, I do not have a 4K TV, but when they demoed the unit to me at eHome, they showed me that it is capable of playing 4K and mkv x265. Marvin from eHome has a 4K TV in their show room. He can respond to your query sir. Stay tuned :)

Since there is only one usb port please check if it works with a usb hub. Check also for the maximum number of external hdds that can be mounted by the unit. I want to see how this compares with the U1 that can mount only three external hdds. While you're at it please do check if mouse and hdds can work together thru the usb hub.

Unfortunately, the Wetek Hub cannot output Dolby & DTS when viewing movies on Netflix. Just 2.0, but it supports full 1080p HD DRM video streaming :)

Regarding the USB hub, this will have to follow, as I do not have one available. I shall purchase one and will update you. :)

Pending queries:
1. Check if the Hub works with a USB hub attached.
2. Check how many HD's can the Hub access with a USB hub attached?
3. Check if a mouse and keyboard can work on the USB hub.

On the number of HD's that the Hub can access, I have a ProBox with 4 units x 2TB HD's = 8TB of storage filled with some good stuff. I attached it to the Hub and it was not able to access/read the ProBox :(

On the flip side, I attached my 2TB HD and it was able to read its contents flawlessly ;)

For both the 4K and x265, the video plays seamlessly. I personally saw this first hand when I auditioned the unit at eHome :)

That's one of the things I considered before committing into this review. Wetek's support and developers are very active and aggressive in their updates. In fact, Wetek has their own forum where the developers themselves are in communication with end users. You can check this out at http://www.wetekforums.com/ ;)

No need to apologize. Its a valid point in finding out the advantages/disadvantages the Wetek Hub has against its competitors and vise versa. Can you provide me a specific model for the Minix, Shield, others...to compare it with...?

Hi flashDB,
If you base it on the history of their first player (Wetek Play), it was released sometime Nov 2014 and latest update at the time of this writing is March 2016 (Wetek OS 1.1.7). I can't say how long they will keep updating each model.

According to the forums, there's an Android Marshmallow update in the works BUT mod seems to make no promises. I think this will rely on AMLogic's decision to support the update.

TY. Minix U1 and Nvidia Shield are the two models I can think of.

Thank for the info. Updates are important to me because or various encoding (old, new, and upcoming codecs) will be supported. I have Minix Neo X7 which still plays various files less 4k which i dont have anyway.

I visited Kod's website and saw these sponsors: Nvidia, Minix, and tada... WeTek :) I'll try to come up comparison between these options...

I have been using a Mede8eter 500X for around 6 years now and have been looking to get a newer model of the same brand for the longest time simply because I am very happy with its PQ and SQ. Being a long time user of the brand, I can easily dtermine differences when I get the chance to use other brands Recently, a good friend handed over his seldomly used Xiaomi MI android player so I had the chance to compare.

Earlier this morning, stickfighter paid me a visit bringing with him the Wetek Hub he is currently reviewing.  This player is really small but thie size is the only thing small about this. Please allow me to share impressions I had with this android player but bear with me as I can only share simple assesments less the technicalities using Wetek soley as a media player as I lack a good internet speed to test streamings and its other features.

Ease of navigation

Im not sure if this is the appropriate term but this player is so damn fast. I can easily navigate from one interface to another making the navigation a breeze. It reads files quickly so this player will serve well impatient users like me. The default player is KODI but there is another KODI player though it says alpha version.(pardon me if I dont get it right)

Movie and music tests

Unfortunately, Wetek was only only able to read two out of the three hard drives attached to my USB hub, one 1 tb and one 2 tb. When we were watching 13 hours, the signal got dropped. We were thinking this maybe beacuse two hard drives were attached so we removed one and everything thrown at it plays at ease afterwards. We tested DTS HD MA materials and after a few exchange of text messages with eHome, we were able to play Band of Brothers without issue. It is different though with Dolby True HD as there is no audio, we surely is missing something in the setting up of audio. We did not bother to test it back as we proceeded testing music files.

We were able to play flac, ape and mp3 without issues. The default KODI music player looks nice as the background comes with bars of different colors in 3D animation. There were files though that we were not able to play but we are not sure what type, probably wav. This might be more of user error than issue internal to Wetek.

Picture and Audio Quality

This is the biggest strength of Wetek. I have been with Mede8eter for so long a time becasue of PQ and SQ but Wetek would put this to shame. I couldn't count the number of times Stickfighter remarked how excellent the PQ is and I couldnt help but agree. I am using  a 60 inch Samsung 60H5000(plasma) and I swear I haven't seen it that good until I used Wetek. Colors are really vivid and lively. Xiaomi Mi is not even close.

Sound quality is also better than my Mede8eter.. As to how better, lets just simply say it is really better.

Others

After sveral hours of use, Wetek is just warm and has not gone hot unlike the other players I used. Im not sure if there is value to the temperature feedback but I wanted to share anyway. While the unit is very smal, it looks and feels very sturdy.. Stickfigther showed me a cellphone app that allows him to browse through his movie files using his cellphone but I think this feature is present in other android players as well.

Overall we had a great time assessing the Wetek. My around 4 hours of wtaching and listening experience can make me say this will be the andoid player for me. Time to save P 5,500 and head to EHome soon. I strongly encourage fellow HT enthusiasts to head to EHome for a personal experience of Wetek's performance but make sure you have your 5.5k with you already as you will surely want to take home one.

My pleasure. Just my opinion - I think the more important issue that Wetek needs to answer for us users is "will they solve existing problems and add more value in their updates?" Updates may be frequent but if it's all minor tweaking or worse - bog down the unit then they shouldn't release any updates.

Unfortunately being able to play reliably only one attached usb hdd may be a deal-breaker for some users. Not being able to mount hdds in a probox is disappointing. I think the Wetek Hub is more geared towards someone who has a media server setup at home.

Or someone like me who just use the hd with the latest files in it. Stickfigther did mentioned it was not able to read his probox but seeing superb picture quality and experiencing excellent audio quality makes me crave to get one.
Title: Re: Wetek Hub Review
Post by: uvax on Oct 01, 2016 at 09:32 PM
I can't argue with that. However many members here have their "collections" spanning several external hdds or installed in a probox (like I do). I've been reading foreign reviews of the Wetek Hub ever since this thread was posted and I've been frustrated that none of the reviews have tried mounting multiple hdds. That's why I made a request in a previous post to test this.

For the record I own a Minix U1. I'm mostly satisfied with it. My main quibble with the U1 is that Netflix only plays in sd. This is the reason why I was interested in the Wetek Hub. For now the trade off is not ok for me. Maybe in the future when I'm able to setup a media server. >:D

WETEK HUB QUICK START GUIDE

Lets start with the basics shall we? Simple set up...attached the HDMI cable, antenna, adapter and your external HD and fire it up!

Wetek Hub on stand by mode (red led indicator)

For the succeeding photos, pardon me as I was just using a phone cam and an unstable holder. The pics may appear crooked :-[

Highlight the folder you previously "set content"-ed, press the properties button on your remote, set content again, set "this folder contains" to "none". A confirmation window will ask you if you want to remove the contents from your library, choose yes :)

WETEK HUB AS A NMT/MEDIA PLAYER

Lets look at how the Wetek Hub performs as a media player...

Impressions:
I did test a number of films with different audio formats to see if the Wetek hub can output DTS, DTS-HDMA, Dobly Digital and Dolby Digital TrueHD. And guess what...??? The Wetek did not let me down...

DTS-HD Master Audio
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/banksescrima/Wetek%20Hub/E1F772B2-D7DE-44BD-BB48-380A8955CF44_zpskyyeqspv.jpg) (http://s214.photobucket.com/user/banksescrima/media/Wetek%20Hub/E1F772B2-D7DE-44BD-BB48-380A8955CF44_zpskyyeqspv.jpg.html)

Dolby Digital TrueHD

Pardon, just a question.

On testing DTS-HD MA, how come the source is 7ch (1 surround back) -- it's supposedly 8ch.  while the output is only 6ch?

And on testing Dolby TrueHD, both the source and the output are 6ch.

could it be the source is not Lossless? or maybe WETEK only processed the 6ch core audio data?  another quick way to test your source is with MPC-HC via laptop and check its properties.  If it says the material's default audio is 8ch, then perhaps, a tweak in needed on WETEK.

TIA!

Forgot, also it can pass through Dolby Atmos. DTS:X not at the moment.

thanks, EHOME!

this is a legit Dolby Atmos-capable pass-thru, then.  Could you please share if anything is tweaked on WETEK or it's already in that set-up by default (out of box)?

which DENON AVR model are you using?  if it's DTS:X ready, firmware is already available.

anyway, I hope I could come and visit your store soon!  TIA!

Jackryan...sup brother? :) Yes, eHome is the exclusive distributor of Wetek here in the Phils, but I was told that there are some that sell it as well. Ritchie is no longer connected with eHome. He is with another AV shop, but I can't recall the name.

It was pretty nostalgic for me as I went there to pick-up the Wetek Hub brother. Memories of the time Egreat was first introduced to the community. The shop still looks the same bro. ;)

Hi guys!

WANTED: A guinea pig brave soul to test and review the Wetek Hub. Wetek Hub is a new 4k UHD player with an officially supported Kodi app. Has DRM capabilities and can stream Netflix in Full HD (for now). It can also pass through DTS-HD and Dolby True-HD 5.1.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to devote time to explore the product.
  • Must be happy to share his experience with other members.
  • Must come to our shop in Greenhills for a short orientation before getting the product. About 30 minutes should do it.
  • Must be a member of PDVD for 1 year or more.
  • Must NOT be selling media players to keep things fair. If you already own a 4k media player, it's also a plus. A comparison would be welcome.

Things to consider:

  • Having a 4k display (TV or projector) is a big plus.
  • Having a Netflix account is an advantage, but not required ;)
  • Since updates will come from time to time, volunteer is encouraged to update his experience (better or worse). So, yes, this means you get to keep the unit  ;D
  • Good and fleasing fersonality.
  • Volunteer will be using a lot of his bandwidth for streaming, so please be prepared.

Did I leave something out? Please post any questions here or PM me. Other guests, please nominate or vote for the person you'd like to take on this task. Nomination and voting starts now and ends on July 29. The person with most votes gets to review the unit :) Thank you!

HI.

I've seen a YouTube review that this can mirror IOS . Can you pls verify?
Thanks.
Hi Oloap. Thank you for showing me the info. So far I've confirmed mirroring/casting from an Android phone to the Wetek Hub via an app and it works. There's a "Media Center" app pre-installed on the Wetek Hub that, when activated, enables the Wetek Hub to receive photos, videos and music from your phone via DLNA. IOS via Airplay option on the same app. I'll need to borrow an Ipad or Iphone to confirm IOS. Or if Stickfighter isn't busy he can try it out :)

HOW TO SET-UP THE KODI REMOTE ON THE iPHONE :)

HOW TO INSTALL ADD-ON INSTALLER ON WETEK HUB's KODI PLAYER :)

First up, we have to install Fusion. For those who are unfamiliar, Kodi is basically a media player. The Fusion Installer is a link to our Kodi Addons server. You'll need the Fusion Installer to be configured before you're be able to install any Kodi addons, our Config Wizard, or even the Addon Installer.

Sorry for the crooked, glaring and crappy pics...these were taken impromptu :-[

The following guide will show you how to install the add-on installer. This add-on allows you to install certain add-ons and their repositories.

STEP 1: Open Kodi
STEP 2: Select SYSTEM and then File Manager
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/banksescrima/Wetek%20Hub/342B28EE-4FF6-4009-9E77-14476614B019_zps2nsaluj6.jpg) (http://s214.photobucket.com/user/banksescrima/media/Wetek%20Hub/342B28EE-4FF6-4009-9E77-14476614B019_zps2nsaluj6.jpg.html)

STEP 3: Select Add Source

STEP 4: Select None

STEP 5: Key in the following: http://fusion.tvaddons.ag and then select Done

Nice. I am just curious if it plays the video. does it drop frames continuously?

Or is it just the video just started?

Hi DPT. Sorry it took so long to test! I tested several videos that are also 4K and x265. So far, only this 10 second video had a dropped frame. All videos were tested via a LAN cable (network) and there was this one time where it dropped a frame when I unplugged the keyboard. Out of curiosity (or boredom) I tried the video again without unplugging the keyboard and it had 0 dropped or skipped frames. :)

P.S. Sorry for taking sooooo long!

That is what reviews are for hehehe.

Dropped and skipped frames are annoying.   As much as possible we should  eliminate dropped or skipped frames.

Here is the link of the vidon Kodi

Vidon XMBC featires and supported chipset.

Hi GIJoe,
Tried the Vidon on the Wetek Hub and it doesn't show the BD menu. Although it recognized the BDMV structure and BD-ISO, it only prompted me which track do I want to play or if I want to see the main menu. When choosing the main menu, it plays the main track. This is already happening with regular Kodi. So nothing special happening here.

just got a Wetek Hub myself and  I am now realizing that android media player is a very versatile one. I had the chance to play one full movie and watch a few episodes of a couple of reality tv series. eHome was kind enough to install several add ons prior to shipping the unit to me. i cant help but over emphasize that this unit provides excellent picture and sound quality.

Hi Stickfighter,

I called ehome today and inquired about the Wetek based on your post. Like you im a mede8er user that i got from ehome 4 yrs ago. Im looking for a media player too but im more interested in the media streaming  (unli access to movies online) features and capabilities of Wetek. Can you share more reviews regarding that feature?
I was told that it comes pre installed with software and a free 1 month subscription and access to unli movies capped at 100gb per month. Theres a p450 monthly subscription if you want this service continued.
Thank you and looking forward to your posts.

Hello mcspicy :)

As a media player, hands down, this kicks Egreat and Mede8er's butt!!! The PQ/AQ of the Wetek Hub is awesome 8)

Yes. When you purchase the Hub, it comes pre-installed with apps to access online streaming programs. Viewing online programs varies on a number of factors, namely:
1. Internet Speed
2. Source (host from where you are accessing the file)
3. Quality (PQ: SD/HD - AQ: 2 channel/surround audio)

The pre-installed software is different. The product it called put.io. Simply put, put.io is a cloud storage service and bittorrent client combined. It basically allows you to download torrents thru a "web drive" and then lets you stream content back to any of your devices with subtitle support. Put.Io also has support for torrent rss feeds. The nice thing about this is, it turns your torrents into streams. No more waiting to download. Capture the torrent link, incorporate it into put.io and watch right away. No more waiting to download the file prior to watching. Put.io is free for the first 30 days. Should you wish to continue, the service will cost you 450 pesos a month for a 100GB cloud storage. I got my Wetek from Ehome last week and I've been totally satisfied with the product as well as the after-sales customer support. Everyone in the household is amazed at the video on demand capabilities. Im still trying to organize my files but ive already managed to network my wetek to my desktop so that files downloaded from torrent can be played without having to physically load the file in the USB drive.

Is there an app or a playlist add-on from Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB so that all highly recommended movies by the viewing public will automatically be collated in a folder complete with movie info? Thanks1:)

Anyone curious about the upcoming Android Marshmallow for the Wetek Hub?  ^-^

The development build is out. Please note that there're still some bugs but try it out anyway. You can always revert back to the current stable build :)

Off-topic, may I ask what USB hub are you using?  eHome selling USB hubs as well?

...Unfortunately, Wetek was only only able to read two out of the three hard drives attached to my USB hub, one 1 tb and one 2 tb...

Quoting wrxtasy from http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=280406&page=17 (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=280406&page=17)

Quote
You do not need more than 1GB RAM to play 2160p 10bit HEVC files, you could probably get away with 512MB or RAM or even less for use as a Kodi media streaming device.
Android Lollipop has efficient Garbage collection and housekeeping routines to keep everything running smoothly. LibreELEC is very efficient and does not even use 500MB of RAM when running. You can easily stream media in excess of the UHD HEVC 10bit - Max bitrate without problems.

The only use for more than 1GB I can see is for games with lots and lots of 3D textures and maybe torrenting, when a lot of data may be held in memory.
A PC running a comparatively bloated OS like Windows for Kodi use would need more than 1GB of RAM.

Kodi, by default, only uses around 64MB for video caching. http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_the_video_cache (http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_the_video_cache) at section 2.

besides the article about 1GB RAM (which is very much comforting to know), there hasn't anyone here complaining of video play issues with their Wetek Hub, right?  Knowing that PDVD peeps lurking here are already collectors of some 4K materials.

I would think its 8GB ROM is more of an issue since we want to install too many applications.  but then, the interim solution is to extend it with a removable media card.

sir marvin, why is it with "Kodi16.1-android5.1.1"  there's only tri-Core?  whereas with LibreElec and Kodi v17 Beta on Marshmallow, it shows its all Quad-Core active?

do you still release Wetek Hub in Lollipop OS?  TIA!

This is already edited. It still sees 4 cores, it's just core0-3 :) Weird numbering. Hehe.
Thanks. Very good catch :) Currently the Wetek Hub is in 5.1.1 lollipop and they've released an open beta for those who want to try Netflix in 4K and 5.1 audio. LibreElec is the Kodi with the smallest footprint in case you want more RAM :)

put.io has been very convenient so far. because of the streaming features i upgraded my net subscription to 3mbps ang bagal pa din compared to those having 10 or 50 mbps pero ok na ako. i used 30 mtrs cat6 cable instead of wifi. now im beginning to understand why people ard abuzz with android players.  observation ko lang when watching via streaming yung last 20 minutes ng movie bigla na sya bumibili at nag stutter. need ko mag pause for a few minutes para ma play ulit ng maayos.

been able to test this Wetek Hub. but not yet in full, as I need to acquire myself a HDMI ver2.0a cables.

despite the above, I would already highly recommend this. and it's cheaper among other known China NMTs.  you can get yourself buying either new HDMI cables and an extra 1TB or 2TB HDD (or whichever you like) on your savings.. =))

using it's pre-installed Kodi (Wetek-configured), tested among movies with:
- file containers: MKV, AVI, MP4, BD ISO, TS, MTS, M2TS
- video codecs: AVC, HEVC, XVID, DIVX
- audio codecs: AAC, AC3, MP3, DD, DD Plus, TrueHD, ATMOS, DTS,DTS-HD MA, DTS:X
- resolutions: 720p, 1080p, 2K & 4K

I'm really glad there is most significant improvement on PQ and colors with this Wetek Hub -- compared to watching the same movies tested with the Sony 4K HDR TV via it's own KODI/SPMC that I installed.

I've not tested this on music nor file streaming, though.  because I'm more on collecting audio-visual entertainment saved on HDD's.. =))

do audition this promising NMT.  bring your own materials for you to see how it'll perform with your own's practical usage at home.  it's immaterial and non-bearing using test clips and demo movies/files as they're not a wise decision factor in choosing an NMT for you.

I can't answer the first question. 2nd question (re Probox 4 bay), it's currently not working but this has been raised in the wetek forums and I think they're working on a fix.

Correct. You can opt not to update. :-) I've mixed feelings towards this UI. For me, the newer UI is nicer but more complex. You can also update to WeOS 2.0.1 and keep the old launcher. I have had my hub since mid Nov .. i had problems with sudden volume mute , cec control , and Netflix was never smooth for me ..

I tried 2.01 Rom via clean install ..that solved my sudden mute issues , but still I had cec control ( does not work) and Netflix ( pausing and jerky video , long freeze)

I tried a clean install also of 1.02 and the atv Rom . And it just would not work for me.

I almost gave up on this due to problems I had will Netflix , but the much nicer pq quality versus chrome cast kept me going.

Lastly I tried this android 6.0 build ... and I now I have very smooth Netflix and  mostly  working CEC control.. There are still issues like I get a blank screen on YouTube if I press the back buttom , instead of the home page of YouTube , but another press will bring me to home page of wetek , and I can enter back to you tube , a workaround that I can live with ... I use spmc  (for media playback off my home server . ) As suggested by wrxtasy in the wetek forums so this is now my daily driver and works for my application , which is adding smart tv functions ( I was using a rpi for media playback. and a chromecast for hd Netflix ) to my Pioneer Kuro .

Just note that android 6.0 is still buggy . I have encountered a number of issues , e.g. Jumping subtitles , loosing cec control after changing tv inputs .others , but for my application this works .. I don't need atmos or hd audio at the moment .

Also great support from ehome , I got answers even though it was New Years  day..

you're welcome sir.
inorder to pair your DS4 controller via bluetooth you'll be needing an app called Sixaxis Controller. But you need root to make this work.
but the problem using Sixaxis Controller is that it will dedicated the bluetooth connection only for DS4/DS3 controller. So if you turn on the Sixaxis Controller app it will disconnect all your bluetooth devices to give way to your DS4/DS3 controller.

After much reading and research I took the plunge and opted to get a Wetek Hub earlier today.

I passed by eHome before going home and sir Marvin and his staff were very courteous and answered all my questions and even tested one to satisfy my requirements for complete compatibility for my collection of movies which I formerly used a Popcorn Hour C200 for.

The unit already came with Web OS 2.01 with the stable Android 5.1 base firmware with Wetek's compile of Kodi 16.

Normally with other china boxes I would be scrambling to find problems with certain features but with this one, all my needs were met right away without even tinkering yet.

What's really impressive is that when I delved into other forums like Librelec, Freaktab, Kodi is that Wetek is very active on support and continuing improvements to new AND their existing products.

So even though I know the hardware on this is a lot similar in cost to the no name china boxes, I am happily glad to pay extra to ensure the company continues the software development which isn't the case with most other cheap boxes where you scrounge all over the internet to find solutions to bugs either on firmware, kodi or other features one needs to have a reliable media player.

Yup, I believed they also sponsored OpenELEC and  they're one of the diamond sponsors for Kodi. https://kodi.tv/xbmc-sponsor-page/

Sure you can bring your unit to the store :) To upgrade, you just activate WeUpdate and proceed with the update.

After much reading and research I took the plunge and opted to get a Wetek Hub earlier today.

Thank you for taking the plunge, scifi-fan :)

Personally after trying Web OS 2.01 for about a whole day and night, I opted to install the same launcher I used on my other Android Kodi Boxes. By doing this, I made all of them have the same UI so that other members of my family from my 11 year old to my wife can use any TV in the house to avoid confusion.

I would have chosen Libreelec on all of them but some of the TV's in the house aren't smart TVs and we use more Youtube rather than watch live tv nowadays.

The good news is that nobody has even bothered to watch live TV using the sky digibox so I think in a couple of months time I can disconnect my subscription already saving money and moving that part of the budget to something else. Every recurring peso in the budget saved is a godsend.

Also here's some more info;

The built-in WePlayer is actually a modded version of Kodi that includes the AMLogic fixes for it to detect HD Audio. Hence if you decide to do a fresh install of Kodi (d/led and installed from Playstore) it will NOT detect HD Audio receivers.

Android 5 is working ok BUT also like other Kodi boxes, HDMI CEC isn't fully working because a Libreelec OS install + Kodi actually is more fully compliant to HDMI CEC as well as HD Audio.

Also the IR extender is a wonderful addition in the box. Most Kodi boxes w/ stock IR remotes are so bad.

Now that netflix is working reliably for me ... I had to install the other streaming apps.

Local First ..

I want TV works ..But I cant do full screen .
I am using the beta 6 android ... I think I tried it with the earlier OS and it would not even stream any video, but I am not sure..

BBC iplayer for shows in the UK . You need a vpn connection , and happily it works with the Hub

Amazon Prime Video was a challenge , I heard the native android app does not work and only SD if ever , so I did not try .

But through a Kodi add-on and a test kodi app . Amazon Prime is viewable in full HD 1080P.

A relative actually gave me access to xfinity/comcast premium cable  which would have allowed me US live TV and access to HBO , showtime , Starkz  .etc ...  on the HUB  , but sadly their app is limited to mobile devices ,and prevents output over HDMI , so I am left to using my iPad ( also no output for a iPad hdmi adaptor)  for that ..

I'm not part of the family, but I'd vote on faster internet haha. We could all use faster internet *drool*

Thanks for more feedback :D

I can't recall if this setting is in the marshmallow rom but I'm currently using the v1.03 developer preview.
You can go to settings > display > screen rotation then select "force land" this should force all the apps to do landscape mode.

HDMI only, sir..

what you could do is:
-- connect Wetek Hub to your TV thru HDMI
-- then from your TV's optical out, connect to your older receiver.

hope you would find WeTek Hub as your new NMT.  it performs good!

thanks!

I see, thanks.  Yes, that's why I'm researching for a 2nd player for another room, to see how it is vs the Minix U1 (w/c I have in 1 room), but I couldn't find any comparison bet. both.

I just had my Wetek Hub configured to run on Libreelec. After several tries doing it on my own throuhg the help of Marvin, I still can!t maket it work so I decided to just send the Hub to eHome. When I got it back it finally worked.I needed to do some adjustments and as usual Marvin was very helpful walking me through the settings helping me get things right.

I was skeptical at first to use Libreelec because doing so would mean I lose the android platforn, well not totally but using Libreelec would mean I cant use android at the same time but what the heck I had Libreelec installed so might as well try it.

My Wetek Hub was configured to boot directly to Libreelec using Kodi and first thing I noticed was the faster navigation. It is in fact significantly faster than using Kodi via android platform. The significant increase in the speed to navigate Kodi is more than enough reason to shift to Libreelec. But perhaps the most significant change I have observed is the huge improvement in picture quality and sound quality. This may actually be be taken by others as placeebo effect but since I am very familiar with my gears I am sure to recognize changes when I see one.

I am really enjoying the improvements brought about by Libreelec. Marvin was right in saying once I get to try it,I wouldn"t go back to android anymore.

Thank you Marvin for the superb customer care and aftersales services.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171104/d904bc9c98c84b96b504243e0c68af89.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171104/28078f7aebc2c6becd5a2d6daeea1c0a.jpg)

Hi nerveblocker. From my experience, it works smoothly if you use NFS (instead of the usual Samba network protocol). Even for 4K with HD Audio. If you're still interested/looking (I realize my post is way too late), maybe we can arrange for a demo at your place?

Hello jnazareta. It depends. What machine are you using as a server? NAS? PC? Usually for NAS, there's already an option. You just have to enable it. For PC, you have to download an application for that.
