All i remember from electric company is the spider-man portion.

that was it's most popular segment!  ;D

me? i remember a little more than that:

a young irene cara (fame)
a young todd graff (the abyss)
rita moreno (pre-OZ... LOL. "hey you guys!!")
the short circus
letterman (no! not the host.)
zero mostel (as spellbinder)
morgan freeman
bill cosby
lots more... ;D

i think the fact that this show was trying really hard to hip. (bell bottoms and the music was more "in tune" to the 70's').... eventually led to it's short lived life in syndication.

"alin ang naiba?"
and yung Sesame Street version rin.

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

Another version:

Three of these things belong together
Three of these things are kind of the same
Can you guess which one of these doesn't belong here?
Now it's time to play our game (time to play our game).

Bonus Version

Three of these kids belong together
Three of these kids are kind of the same
But one of these kids is doing his (her) own thing
Now it's time to play our game
It's time to play our game.

batang sesame street & electric company - where i first saw morgan freeman.  everyday of my life as a kid i've watched these childrens programs - dun nga ako natutong magbilang e.

"sunny day, sweeping the clouds away
on my way to where the air is sweet
can you tell me how to get
how to get to sesame street..."

" You take the golden "AN",
and take it to to the tan vAN
and give it to DAN
who takes it to FrAN"

 ;D
i remember, eto yung pagkakasabi nung muppet ng makalimutan nya yung 'plan' kaya nahuli ;D

"you take the golden "AN"
and take it to the tan truck
and give itto Dan
who takes it to the horse"

that's the plan!

at ang ending lagi goes like this:

...this program was brought to you by the letter H, the number 8 and the childrens television workshop :)

Who are the people in your neighborhood song.

My daughter always ask me to sing this on our karaoke. And she'll start to giggle. It's all started when i found it on the karaoke song book. and decided to sing it.

Anyway, i like Electric company better than Sesame Street.

isn't it sad that kids today don't appreciate sesame street as much as we do? maybe this generation's more informed, but i think our generation's more creative and imaginative.

i loved Square One (also a PBS show). although it did nothing to improve my math.

sesame kid here! and also my kid is enjoying sesame street, bought a handful of SS VCD, like alphabets, and manners.

one hilarious and memorable scene for me is when count dracula, slept over at ernie and bert's place.

count dracula is having a hard time sleeping because he's namamahay, so ernie suggested that he count sheeps.

and we all know that's count dracula's favorite past time. so he counted sheeps with thunder and his evil, laugher (ONE SHEEP!!! HAHAHA. TWO SHEEPS HAHAHA)

the next morning count was so relax after a good night sleep, while ernie and bert didnt sleep at all with all the commotions

do you still remember the song on sesame street, "everybody, everybody sleeps", that bert loves pigeons, the man who looks like Guy Smiley trying to get the right tune of "row, row, row your boat" on his piano then bangs his head whenever he miss a note. the magician with the magic spell of "walla peanut butter sandwiches", supergrover, and many many more great memories.

Sesame street is brought to you today by the letters A and L :) and by the number 7. Sesame street is a production of the children's television workshop...

my officemates and i have a sesame street "jamming" session at least once a month  ;D

we try to sing all the songs/melodies that we can remember. some of our favorites are:

1. the alligator king song
2. the one with the 11 pigs
3. that 1-12 song
4. the number "three" song with the ice cream cherries

one of us even has the book, "sesame street: unpaved" which she ordered online.

ah yes, the memories... ;D

favorite sesame street song:

mahna mahna

My favorite, too. It's actually THE VERY FIRST SONG I ever downloaded from Kazaa!  :D

speaking of PBS shows. anyone remember "electric company"?

We're gonna turn it on... we're gonna bring you the power...

The Adventures... of LETTERMAN!

Punc-punc-punc-punc-tuation... they are the little marks that give the influence... to make the sentence make more sense... The period is just a little dot - but it occupies a most important spot!

You got soup? We got soup. What kind of soup? All kinds of soup!

Easy Reader, that's my name I say... uh uh uh...

Oh no... this post has just made me realize that I was programmed to be a couch potato even from early childhood!   :o

my favorite songs: seven alligators and 12 lady bugs on a picnic. hope i got the numbers right. anyone knows if they are available on cd?

thanks.

"The Alligator King" really takes me back.  So does "Everybody sleeps."  Another song that is unusually etched in my mind is the capital I song.  You know:  " We all live in a capital I...." Now my daughter is the same age that I first started watching Sesame Street.  Kind of makes me feel old.

Questions:

1.)  Does anyone know when Telly, Elmo, and Prarie Dawn were first introduced?  They were not around when I was still watching the show.

2.)  When did Mr. Hooper die?

I also followed the Batibot, Atbp series.  The most memorable character for me is not Pong Pagong or Kiko Matsing but Kuya Bodji!

Couch spud, that was me.  Now a fully rooted couch potato.

Questions:

1.)  Does anyone know when Telly, Elmo, and Prarie Dawn were first introduced?  They were not around when I was still watching the show.

i think these guys (i.e. elmo's world) were SS's answer vs. the new toddler show formats like blue's clues & teletubbies

medyo natatalo na kasi sila sa ratings game eh.  :P

2.)  When did Mr. Hooper die?

try this:
http://www.rpi.edu/~jerzaw/bert/hooper.htm

seriously, eto ang details:

(Big Bird gives everyone pictures that he drew of them.)

Big Bird: And last but not least, ta-da!

(Shows picture of Mr. Hooper.)

Big Bird: Well, I can't wait till he sees it!

(silence)

Big Bird: Say, where is he? I wanna give it to him. I know! He's in the store.

Bob: Uh, Big Bird. He's ... he's not in there.

Big Bird: Oh. Then where is he?

Maria: Big Bird, uh, don't you remember we told you? Mr. Hooper died. He ... he's dead.

Big Bird: Oh yeah. I remember. Well, I'll give it to him when he comes back.

Susan: Big Bird, Mr Hooper's not coming back.

Big Bird: Why not?

Susan: Big Bird, when ... when people die, they don't *come* back.

Big Bird: Ever?

Susan: No, never.

Big Bird: Well, why not?

Luis: Well, Bird Bird, they're dead. They ... they can't come back.

Big Bird: Well, he's *gonna* come back. Why, who's gonna take care of the store? And who's gonna make my birdseed milkshakes and ... and tell me stories?

David: Big Bird, I'm gonna take care of the store. Mr. Hooper, he left it to me. And I'll make you your milkshakes and ... and we'll all tell you stories, and we'll make sure you're okay.

Susan: We'll look after you.

Big Bird: Hmmm.

(silence)

Big Bird: Well, it won't be the same.

Bob: You're right, Bird Bird. It's ... it's ... it'll never be the same without him.

Big Bird: Mmm.

Bob (crying): But you know something? We can all be very happy that we had a chance to be with him and ... and to know him. And to love him a lot when he was here.

Big Bird: Yeah.

Olivia: And Bird Bird, we'll still have our *memories* of him.

Big Bird: Well, yeah ... yeah ... our memories. Right. Why, memories, that's how I drew this picture. From memory. And we can remember him and remember him and remember him, as much as we want to! But I don't like it. It makes me sad.

David: We all feel sad, Big Bird.

Big Bird: He's *never* coming back?

David: Never.

Olivia: No.

Big Bird: Well, I don't understand! You know, everything was just fine! I mean, why does it have to be this way? Give me one good reason!

Gordon: Big Bird, it has to be this way ... *because*.

Big Bird: Just because?

Gordon: Just because.

Big Bird: Oh.

(Looks at Mr. Hooper's picture.)

Big Bird: You know, I'm gonna miss you, Mr. Looper.

Maria (crying): That's *Hooper,* Big Bird, *Hooper.*

Big Bird: You're right.

(Everyone gathers around Big Bird for a hug.)

may questions din po ako:

1. si big bird ba ay male o female?

2. when kinasal si maria & luis?

3. si miss piggy ba ay galing sa SS
o created sya for the muppet show?

by the way, i was so happy when REM

and modified their song "shiny happy people"
just for the kids.  ;D

1. si big bird ba ay male o female?

Big Bird is a male. Female counterpart niya si Big Pussy from The Sopranos.

Sorry, someone had to say it. ;D

Big Bird was actually conceived as a typical inquisitive 6 year old with no specific gender. But when people began bringing the issue up, they shifted it and let characters refer to Big Bird as a "he."

Quote
2. when kinasal si maria & luis?

Initially, there was the David-Maria love angle. Luis eventually became the 3rd party, and he won out, marrying Maria in 1988 or 89. The actor who played David died in 1990.

Quote
3. si miss piggy ba ay galing sa SS o created sya for the muppet show?

She was originally created as a minor character for The Muppet Show, but eventually moved on to second lead, quickly surpassing Fozzie Bear in popularity.

My favorite song is Ernie's "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon", it's so cute and so thoughtful at the same time.

Is this one available locally? The reviews aren't too good, though, since the songs featured are just excerpts daw, not complete.

The Karaoke one is available locally on DVD. Php 250 or 350 lang yata. But these are all-new versions of the songs, not the originals, with Elmo doing much of the singing.  >:(

Y'know, that may be one of the greatest mysteries of SS ...  ;D

Anyone here remember the episodes where the Sesame people went off to Mexico? The only part I can recall is when they were leaving.

We're going home, we're going home
We would love to stay but we can't delay
Coz we're going home ...

Sesame Street really influenced pinoy pop culture.  Here are some examples:

1. Jollibee commercial in the early 90's used "I don't want to live on the moon" as a music peg.
2. "Cheezy Chiz Curls, you're the one" jingle is a take on "Rubber Ducky, you're the one."
3. Batibot is an obvious Sesame Street clone...also "Sesame" with Pong Pagong and Kiko Matsing.

There may be more, but these are the ones i recall.

I also remember "What's it like to be in school? Will there be a teacher who..."  And this song that goes "Beet, beet, sugar beet, beet, sugar beet, sugar beet, beeeeeeet."  Also "We all live in a capital I. In the middle of the desert, in the center of the sky."  Also, "A lower case N.  Standing on a hill.  The wind is very still, for the lower case N.  Then one day a rocket ship came falling from the sky.  It landed on the hill and it opened up a door. Then something started coming outside.  A lower case N! (He's not lonely anymore) Standing on a Hill (There are two of them for sure).   The wind is very still, for the lower case N!"

Bow!

and they thought big bird had an imaginary friend. si snuffle-apagus(did i spell it right?) pala yun.

and wanda the witch for the letter "W"?

i remember the g grover g george jingle from sesame street and i really loved that tune dahil grover is my all time favorite muppet.  also remember the everybody sleeps tune, anyone else remember that?

pero the thing i want to find out is this.  it's also from sesame street and i remember feeling melancholic and sad even then in my youth when i always saw this clip.  it's a sort of collage of leaves in the rain and it was accompanied by this sad, haunting guitar music.  what is the title of that piece of music?  kasi i get the impression that it was a classical piece, di ko nga lang alam kung sino.  i've been trying to find out ever since but i have had no luck.  can someone help?

Im also a sesame street kid....

I still remember Berts immortal question "why did the pigeon cross the street".

The episode I love most is  when kermit was buying a sweat shirt with the words " kermit the frog" written on it. The seller would always bring out a shirt with the "frog" jumbled. (gorf, grof etc). And then after kermit refuses to take it a true owner would come in and claim the item.

Also they have this puppet in a suit who buys equipment but doesnt pronounce  the name. He would always give the sound of the item. I think kermit is the seller.

buying puppet : give me a (imitates the sound of a hammer)

kermit   brings out a saw

buying puppet : no no no, you gave a  (imitates the sound of a saw), but im buying a (imitates the sound of a hammer)

 ;D

ah, memories.

The Alligator King

One two three four five six seven!
Said the Alligator King to his seven sons,
"I'm feelin' mighty down.
Whichever of you can cheer me up
Will get to wear my crown."

His first son brought seven oyster pearls
From the bottom of the China Sea.

The second gave him seven statues of girls
With clocks where their stomachs should be.

The third son gave him seven rubies
From the sheikdom Down There Beneath.
The King thought the rubies were cherries,
And he broke off seven of his teeth.

The fourth son tried to cheer him up
With seven lemon drops.
The King said, "I'm sorry son,
Since that ruby episode, I just haven't got the chops."

The fifth son brought the King perfume
In seven fancy silver jars;
The King took a whiff, and he broke out in spots
'Cause it smelled like cheap cigars.

The sixth son gave him seven diamond rings
To wear upon his toes.
The King snagged his foot on the royal red rug
And crumpled up his nose.

The seventh son of the Alligator King
Was a thoughtful little whelp.
He said, "Daddy, appears to me
That you could use a little help."

Said the Alligator King to his seventh son,
"My son, you win the crown.
You didn't bring me diamonds or rubies, but
You helped me up when I was down.
Take the crown; it's yours, my son.
I hope you don't mind the dents.
I got it on sale at a discount store-
Cost me all of seven cents!"
Seven!

EWW! No wonder that Elmo always gave me the creeps.

Quote
VOICE OF ELMO DENIES SEX W/ UNDERAGE BOY
Takes Leave of Absence from Sesame Street

Kevin Clash -- the man known as the voice of Elmo -- has taken a leave of absence from Sesame Street in the wake of allegations he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy, TMZ has learned  ... allegations Clash adamantly denies.

We've learned ... Sesame Workshop lawyers recently met with a 23-year-old man who claims he and Clash began a sexual relationship 7 years ago ... when he was 16 and Clash was 45.

Clash has acknowledged to TMZ he had a relationship with the young man -- but insists it only took place AFTER the accuser was an adult.

Sesame Workshop honchos tell TMZ ... "In June of this year, Sesame Workshop received a communication from a young man who alleged that he had a relationship with Kevin Clash beginning when he was 16-years-old.  This was a personal relationship, unrelated to the workplace. We took the allegation very seriously and took immediate action."

Sesame Workshop officials acknowledge to TMZ they met with the accuser twice and had a number of other communications with him.

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell TMZ ... after the accuser's initial meeting with Sesame Street, the accuser felt Sesame Workshop's lawyers were trying to muzzle him ... so he lawyered up with Andreozzi and Associates -- the firm that represented one of the victims in the Jerry Sandusky child rape case.

On August 15, 2012 ... Andreozzi fired off a letter to Sesame, accusing the company of trying to "discredit the victim in order to protect its employee and the image of one of its most valuable characters," adding, "This approach places a greater value on a puppet than the well being of a young man."

Sesame Workshop officials tell TMZ  ... they conducted a thorough investigation and determined the allegation of underage sex was unsubstantiated.  They say they never tried to silence the accuser -- rather they asked for evidence supporting his claim, but he never produced it.

Officials also tell us they're suspicious because the accuser has an email which TMZ obtained -- purportedly sent to him by Clash, acknowledging they had the affair when he was 16.  The officials say the accuser never mentioned such an email existed and they believe it's fraudulent.

But there were other emails between Clash and the accuser, and although they don't suggest there was underage sex, officials tell us they disciplined him for inappropriate use of company email.

Sesame Workshop honchos tell TMZ ... "Kevin insists that these allegations are false and defamatory and he has taken actions to protect his reputation.  We have granted him a leave of absence to do so."

It is unclear why Clash wanted a leave of absence, since he denies the allegations of underage sex.

As for Clash, the voice actor tells TMZ, "I had a relationship with [the accuser].  It was between two consenting adults and I am deeply saddened that he is trying to make it into something it was not."  Clash calls the accusations false and defamatory.

Finally Sesame Workshop officials tell TMZ the puppet is alive and well: "Elmo is bigger than any one person and will continue to be an integral part of Sesame Street to engage, educate and inspire children around the world."

Same here ..... Elmo wasn't part of the Sesame Street that I grew up with - never really liked him compared to the initial cast.

One SS moment that I can never forget - the episode where the adults informed Big Bird of Mr. Hooper's passing ..... heartbreaking episode; though looking back, it was handled very well.

I even remember the haunting piece of music played after the scene (a guitar solo, which to this day, I'm still searching for a copy) ...... a tribute of sorts for Mr. Hooper.

I actually managed to watch 9TV's broadcast of Sesame Street yesterday morning.

The good news: it's back!
The bad news: it's the edited 30-minute version.  :P

The episode was actually first aired in the USA on November 2009, and features Michelle Obama in a segment towards the end.

Intro is so different, the street is familiar yet had some new elements: Mr. Hooper's store now has outside tables, and there's a lush garden area near the carriage house. Susan, Gordon, Bob, Maria and Luis are all still there, but they are practically senior citizens.  :'(  I have no idea who the other cast members are.

The show's format is more street-oriented, with hardly any animated number/letter clips now. The episode I watched was "brought to you by the letter H and the number 40" -->40??? During my time 12 was the maximum number that was featured, LOL.

Various 10-minute segments are also aired within the main show, which are combination muppet/cgi/animated segments--the one shown in the episode I watched was Abby's Flying Fairy School. Thank God there was no Elmo's World segment, or I would've changed the channel--can't stand that little abomination.

Anyone remember the Bert is Evil memes from the 90's?

http://bertisevil.tv/evidence.htm

Growing up with Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Oscar and Grover, to me, Sesame Street jumped-the-shark when they gave too much airtime to Elmo (not sure if this was a result of the popularity of tickle me Elmo toys back then or vice versa).   He was too pa-cute (and annoying for me), and all of a sudden, all the other characters just took a backseat.  >:D
