under warranty?pa repair ba nila sir?ano sabi?
Warranty is Covered for 1 year, parts & labor.
I might bring it to the dealer straight at West Ave, then sell it,
Called Polk Audio MOA for replacement, hindi daw pwede, Bought it exactly 1 month today.
Charge to experience na lang, hindi na ako uulit bumili sa kanila.
Thank you Sanjay! Your 90k-ish quote for the Rti speakers just went dry man.
-
in fairness, the warranty covers repair, why wont you avail it?
-
Tama, may warranty pala bakit di i-avail? Dealers will not replaced lalo na one month na pala.
-
Sent it to West Ave Onkyo Repair Center, last monday.
They updated the firmware and added an auxiliary fan.
They've observed and tested it there for 3 days now, it's working.
Will get it and sell it immediately -
Will probably get one of the Yamahas for replacement.

Covered naman ng warranty for 1 year yun 343 ko, pero 3x na ako nagpapabalik balik sa "NG LR" issue nya.
I'm now opting for an exchange of unit dahil after they upgraded the firmware and added an auxiliary fan the same issue persist... Kaya ayun, iniwan ko na sa kanila yun unit ko.
Used it for a month, barely 5x, on music and 3 movies (cable pa) less than 24 hours of total break-in use!

I think they charge 1k for service excluding parts

Some Bad news again :-(
After 2 months of replacing my 343 with a new unit, the issue remains to go back to having "NG L R" on my 343.
What is with this unit?
Returned it for repair and will wait for 5 days...
Anybody had the same issue or is it just me?
Hayzzzzzz.... :-\ ??? :-[

My 1 year and 2 month old Onkyo 646 just had experienced NG L R and now being repaired at Pure Digital since last week.
Upon checking the status, they said that the unit is now ok and just undergoing some quality test and they will just call me if everything is already fine.
I asked them what went wrong, and they tell me that they just soldered some loose parts from the board. Hopefully, they will no longer see anymore problem with the unit and the problem will not persist.
Will check it again tomorrow.

ouch!!! good luck, sir. this time I hope they can repair or replace it.. when replacing, ask for a higher model =))

TY for this thread. Nearly decided to buy one to replace my ooooold Denon.
-
Kumusta na mga Unit niyo Sirs, Ok na?
-
oo nga kamusta na unit nyo sir?
-
After doing more research I decided to get this unit pa rin because it's still a good value for 4K capable AVR. It was to go this traditional route (AVR + wires + speakers) or sell all of my setups including speakers to go for the more "uso" na soundbars (which I think is bitin pag nasanay ka na sa traditional 5.1 wired setups).
I will still pay heed to this thread though so out of the box I am MORE careful during installation and any modifications I do to the setup.
ALWAYS POWER OFF everything before changing cabling to/from the AVR.
-
i am crossing my fingers that "ng l r" error will not display sa onkyo 646 that i bought about 3 weeks ago, but haven't powered it on dahil under construction pa ang ht.

Hello Guys!
Some update sa issue ko sa NG-LR ng Onkyo 343:
Pure Digital told me that my Onkyo 343 is under power sa Pioneer Andrew Jones' 5.1 set-up ko:
SP-FS52 Floor standing speakers, SP-BS22 LR - bookshelf, SP-C22 center & 12" sub speakers.
Yun daw ang cause ng "NG-LR" ng 343 receiver ko. I need to have at least 160 watts / channel, so they are offering me to upgrade to the Onkyo 656 - which has 170 watts/channel capacity ---trade-in ko 343, add na lang daw ako 29k.
I checked Amazon.com - Onkyo 656 cost is $399.
Kay Mr. Kelly of las Pinas ba Okay bumili?
Wala naman sira yun 343 ko, I can sell it elsewhere or online. I just need an upgrade and a good place to buy one or take Pure Digital's offer for the Onkyo 656...
Deal or No Deal?
Any ideas will be much appreciated :-)
Thanks po and Have a great day!

Conclusion ko, pag music dapat stereo amp at pag HD movie ay AV receiver pala talaga to enjoy yung dts sound (multichannel sound ng movie). Back to the topic, hard to drive pala talaga yung speaker na nai-match nya sa Onkyo 343 kaya the same problem persist kahit change unit na....Buti na lang may thread na ganito para sa kaalaman ng mga mahihilig.......sa HT (hehe)...
-
yup, this is still good news for you TS. fortunately, they were able to isolate the problem properly. as mentioned, when replacing, ask for a higher model..
at least 656 is now a 7.2ch AVR. you just need to add another pair of Pio AJ's =))

I have some doubts on that being the cause of the error (unless you play really loud). NG is a No Good error (protect mode).
I'm guessing this may also apply to your receiver:

I've been using Wharfedale 10.5, CS & Rears SUB and it's pretty similar in terms of specs sa speakers mo.
Granted these are by no means Audiophile quality, but these arent' sobrang panget naman.
My point is, I've never experienced a speaker causing an amp to go into protect mode unless it was shorted. When a speaker is mismatched, you get bad sound but you don't blow the amp (unless nga it's shorted).
IMHO I would first change speaker wires and I would even try using the rear speakers you have as fronts for a test (in stereo) not playing movies to test baka may tama na front speakers mo.
-
Bought mine in November, just experienced NG: LR just now. Been trying to research on it and came across this forum.
-
^ what are your speakers, sir and how are you using them -- blasting the volume til kingdom come when this issue is experienced?
-
Speakers were not blaring when it happened. I was just watching a movie through chromecast. Puro dialog pa yung movie, di pa yung tipong Star Wars or Transformers. Medyo chopsuey nga lang yung speakers, Set up as follows:
MB Quart QL 40 C (front left right)
Pure Acoustics Super Nova C (center)
Wharfedale WH-S10 Subs
Philips SBC BS020 (rear left right)
Pinaka-load na siguro is yung front and center speaker since powered naman yung subs and small speakers lang yung surround.
-
have you tries to isolate the issue with your speaker cables? baka may strands touching the other speaker port (shorting) of the AVR..
otherwise, pwede na iwasan yang Onkyo 343.. =))
bring it to service center na?
thanks!
-
It's currently there at the service center w/ other 343s SMH, looks like a known issue. What a waste. I know it's an entry level AVR but still...it's like 5x the price of the amp I bought in Raon that lasted me over 10 years and still going strong.
-
have you asked if the HDMI issue prevalent in the past models still exists on current Onkyo models?
goodluck with your Onkyo repair, sir.. hope once fixed to never recur ever.. =))
-
I was advised that HDMI is not an issue with the new 343, although I was given a heads up to power off everything before plugging/unplugging HDMI cables.
BTW, I got the 343 back from the service center I think that was on Feb 9, so that's 3 weeks now. It's working fine since then. I'm no longer using my floor standers since based a previous post, the 343 "might" be under powered for the speakers I am using before. I really miss the sound of my MB Quart speakers. I bought a pair of Diamond 220s to replace them.
Double checked the wiring before hooking everything back up. I did not find anything wrong.
-
you may sell your 343 and get a more powered with capability of driving your current speakers.. mas magiging masaya ka very misses the audio performance you really wanted to hear =))
as for your 220s, put it in rear and re-route smaller ones for your heights..
-
Thanks. I guess that will be my route. It's actually the same advise I got from the place I bought the 220s from after telling them the situation.
Based on everything that occurred on my escapades (auditions, service center visits, window shopping), I find that the Onkyo 343 is a relatively good entry level AVR for small speaker set up. In fairness to the 343, it's still much much better than home theater in a box or soundbar set ups, provided you have good speakers to match it up with.
-
Update: I bought this SR343 last January 2017.
Today I went home and the amp was kaput. I power up, no display... I hear a faint click.
Check all speaker cables, nothing. Tomorrow it goes to service center. Not a good sign in terms of experience with this brand. Prior amp was a Denon and prior to that was a Pioneer. So far only the Pioneer was the only one that left my household without any damage or repair required.
Will update as necessary.
-
Update: I took the receiver to the service center and lo and behold it worked there without issue. Boy was my face red :(
Anyhoo, they gave it a thorough test and I guess when I reset it, I just didn't wait long enough for the settings to clear.
I did re-do my entire wiring setup just to be safe and it's all back together working.
-
^ good for you, sir.. congratz, no issue with your 343 ;D
would you not mind sharing why did you attempt to reset it? was it after a FW upgrade?
-

In the manual it says to press the power button WHILE holding down the power button on the unit itself. Display will say "Clear" and reset it to factory settings.
Last night, I had the same issue again (around 10pm). This time I knew what to do. I removed everything and Unplugged it overnight for the AMP DIAG to clear from the receiver's memory.
In the morning, I did a more methodical install starting with just the Front Speakers, play some content for 15 minutes, then added the center speaker and repeated the cycle adding a speaker every 15 minutes (powering down every cycle before adding a speaker).
This time I left out the powered subwoofer. Lo and behold 4 hours later still no issue.
I remember some years ago I had a problem with the active sub (blew a fuse) so I opened up the subwoofer. Lo and behold I saw the culprit, some damage on the circuit board (blown transistors). Now I think I appreciate the amp protect features of this product which I did not have on my previous Denon (purchased last 2010). It was probably the active sub that caused damage to my prior receiver. I DID have the amp repaired before I sold it so I'm not a scammer he he he.
From the service center, they said this model is a "entry level" so it does not have a firmware update.
-
Mine just displayed NG L R today... Onkyo 343. Is there a way to reset or we really need to bring this back to the store?
-
Update: My unit started experiencing AMP Diag and Check SP wire issues beginning on December 15.
After my last post last September I haven't connected a subwoofer back to the system.
So what I did was to check the speaker wires and tried all sorts of combinations of speakers and even changed out all my speaker wire (since they were 10+ years old anyway).
Anyway, I kept getting the error even while resetting the unit.
I ended up not being able to play anything continuously for more than 3-4 hours without the amp shutting down.
I therefore took the unit back to Onkyo service and told them all that happened even changing the speaker wire and testing each speaker for shorts and impedance.
They had me leave the unit and I was actually expecting the service to take more than a 1 week. However within 2 days I got a call from them telling me the unit was already fixed so I went to get it.
Unit is still within warranty and what service said they did was to upgrade the firmware and install a fan. I guess since the firmware isn't user upgradable only the service center was able to do it. I also saw the fan unit installed inside and it's pretty quiet so I'm not bothered by it's addition.
This unit is actually supplanted by the newer SR 373 so basically I give my experience jumping from Denon to Onkyo a neutral rating. I never had an issue with prior receiver purchases (Pioneer, Denon) within the warranty period.
That said would I get another Onkyo again? Probably yes because the service center was pretty responsive to every visit I made and I think for equipment like this, it's more important to ensure there is a place where they can be serviced.
-
+ rating with the Onkyo service center... can we know where is that service center, sir? thanks!

Onlyo receivers run very hot for some reason. Bakit kaya ganun ang design nila?
Daming blogs telling people to add an extra fan to their Onkyo units to prevent Shutdown.

The service center is located at West Wing Bldg, 107 West Ave QC.

No idea. I'm just speculating pero this was a entry level unit so baka tinitipid as much as possible pero in some environments it's more prone to issues (tropical country) just like vehicles meant for different markets are tropicalized.
Spent nearly the whole day binge watching content on Netflix and no shutdown so I hope this is the last I need to bring it there for awhile.

Paid 2,500 for repair and it's just 2 days after the warranty has lapsed.
