Title: TCL Owner's thread
Post by: Ice Storm on Nov 03, 2016 at 09:49 AM
On Amazon the top 20 brands for LED TVs are TCL, Sony & Samsung.

The brand TCL is unfamiliar to me and the pricing is very attractive.

So owners how do you like your TCL?

Recently bought TCL 55E5900 inch. So far satisfied with the picture quality. With dedicated remote button for netflix and you tube. Need some adjusting if your previous TV is non smart. Digital TV ready so no need to buy digibox. 4K with 64 bit processing and with USB 3.0 slot and optical out. Cons is that no PC input for RGB, HDMI only.  Cost is 29k.

It's a pretty common brand in the Caribbean when I was there. They tend to crush blacks quite a bit out of the box and have very simple image controls (at least the ones that I've tinkered with). The image quality is generally quite decent though, especially given the price point.

They make TVs and sell them under better-known brands too (especially in the US market).

Mga sir/mam,

Urgent issue lang po..

I need help po about sa tv ko. Brand: Devant LED TV, Model: 50DE500, Size: 55"
I accidentally hit the TV screen with a hard object tapos nabasag yung screen nya.. My idea po ba kayo kung magkano aabutin kapag pina repair yung TV or kung parts lang yung bibilhin ko para ma replace yung screen, saan nman pwede umorder or makahanap ng parts? I badly need some options kung bibili nalang ako ng bago kung swak naman sa budget or ipagawa ko nalang kc sayang nman kung naka display lang pero sira nman at di na magamit..

salamat sa mga mag rereply..

need mo na sir bumili ng bago. 70% to 80% ang cost mo nyan sa orig price. para ka rin bumili ng bago. it happened to me when my son accidentally thrown his toy on my TV.. pag broken panel kalasin mo nalang ang TV at ibenta sa electronic shop ang pwede ibenta.

Looking forward to some feedback on TCL TVs as well. Out of all the budget brands, I'm most willing to give TCL a chance. Looking between LG's 49UH7700 and TCL's 50E5900 right now.

Got my 5 month old TCL tv replaced with new one. Good thing the box was still intact. There were a lot of replacement for TCL tv. The first batch has 4 units, the second batch 11 units. Good thing TCL replaced the defective units. The unit itself is okay. It is in the wifi that has a problem. According to the technician, motherboard problem. Need to input the password everytime I turn on the tv. Also reboots intermittently if using wifi.

Just got the TCL 49 P2US 4k TV for 26K ...not bad i think. I was intending to buy the Samsung 43 UHD at Abenson for the price of 24.5k and that the size i need but for the difference of only 1.5k i decided to get the TCL instead. I am enjoying testing the TCL with my regular 1080 files but I dont have a 4K file yet. To those who tested watching 4k files with the TV how do you find it in terms of picture quality?

For regular local tv broadcast, I always opt for the NORMAL view because its too big i think. Dapat talaga mas maliit maybe the 43 should have been better considering my viewing distance. Now may I ask, kung sa NORMAL view ba with black bars on both sides, mas matipid ba sa kuryente as compared to the full size which covers the entire 49"?

Just bought a TCL 49C2US the other day. Image quality is not bad compared to our Samsung JS7200. There's some noticeable clouding on the upper corners but not too bad if you dial down the backlight a bit. PS4 Pro 4k and HDR output are both working well on the TV. Stock speakers are better than the usual that come with flat panels. Manual sucks though; you have to figure everything out by yourself, which may not be easy if you're unfamiliar with the Android TV platform. Some bloatware is installed so you'll have to disable some apps if you want a vanilla Android TV experience but Android TV also means you get polished apps for major content platforms. I've used Netflix, Spotify, Fox+ and Kodi so far and I really prefer Android's interface versus Samsung's Tizen. Performance with Kodi is so-so; there's some stuttering with large movie files so the TV's chipset obviously isn't top end but I don't really mind since I run Kodi from our NAS anyway. Overall, not bad for 35k based on initial impressions.

The C807 in the US is the same as the C2 here, except they have Roku TV and Dolby Vision support over there and we get Android TV and just HDR10 over here.
The P2 here is actually the S405 in the US. We don't get the equivalent of the P607, unfortunately.

Just purchased the 43P2US model. I haven't got the unit yet since manggagaling ang stock sa ibang branch dahil nagkaka ubusan yung model na to even sa SM sa location namin. Got it for only 23.3K cash promo. Hopefully to get it tomorrow or on Thursday. This is actually my only 2nd time i bought an LED tv since 2011 coming from a Sharp aquos basic TV. So I'm wondering about the quality and durability of TCL tv's since they offer good warranty. My sharp tv is still working. It's just that it had few horizontal lines on the screen. Hoping this TV will last even after warranty period for few years.

After auditioning the 65 p2, lg 6320 and samsung 6001, the tcl can actually beat these two squarely in terms of  video quality, using only ordinary movie files with a resolution lower than 480p via a direct usb connection. The artifacts on the lg and samsung are more obvious than in TCL despite continued tweaking done by the sales guy. The movie file inTCL is more watchable for me.

My media player nexbox connects easily with the TCL and lg, while the samsung simply dont see it.

I have one dead/stuck pixel on my C2US after 1.5 months of use. Just reported it to them. Will see if their warranty policy will allow for a TV replacement with 1 out of 8.2M+ pixels not working. TCL USA's allowance is 16 dead pixels for 4k displays. Hopefully TCL Philippines will be less stringent. ;D

Even smaller. Hardly visible even on a full black screen unless you really look for it. Unfortunately, once you spot it, it can't really be unseen.

Not capable of HDR

"QUHD is a marketing catch-all for TCL's use of a quantum dot LCD panel (which has a wider colour gamut than a regular LCD), local dimming from the edge-lit LEDs (which boosts contrast in specific screen areas) and HDR (which is that excellent next-generation picture quality standard). These are the specs you'd normally only find on the higher end panels of Samsung and Sony and LG LED-backlit LCD TVs, but there's also a catch: the C1 doesn't support HDR, a feature restricted to the as-yet-unreleased X1."

Really disappointed with how TCL handles their aftersales.

Here's a timeline of my experience with them so far:
November 20 - reported problem to their hotline, hotline promised a visit from a technician in 3 to 5 days
November 24 - followed up with hotline since it's technically the 5th day already, hotline informed me that visit would be on November 28 and that I would receive a text from the technician when he's on his way
November 28 - nothing, nada
November 29 1:45 PM - called hotline again to follow up, hotline says visit is scheduled for December 1 (no one contacted me about this)
November 29 3:15 PM - got a text from the technician that he's on his way to my house already, I told him that I am not available since I was not given notice at all for this visit
November 29 4:00 PM - got a text from the technician saying he's outside my house and no one's answering the door (malamang, that's exactly what I told him previously)

Long story short, ang gulo nila kausap. I'm really glad that I only have a minor issue with the TV. If it was anything major, this would've have been even more frustrating than it already is.

Thanks for the heads up!  I was also eyeing the C2 series of TCL. It has good reviews and features such as:

-Android OS -- GUI almost the same as Mi Box
-Built in Chromecast
-HDR PRO-  I just dunno if this is really HDR
-Harman Kardon Speakers
-Cheaper than mainstream brands with the same features

How's the performance and PQ of the TV?

Performance is pretty much how Rtings described it. Good contrast, bad viewing angles, some backlight bleeding, very wide color gamut. I've had to adjust gamma values for some HDR games since the default HDR settings sort of washes out the colors.

Update on the aftersales: technician dropped by last Friday and confirmed the single bright pixel. He recommended that the TV be replaced (since it's less than 2 months old) so I'll wait and see if the head office approved the request.

Status update: someone from TCL called me today to inform me that the request for unit replacement has been approved. They'll get in touch with me for the delivery schedule of the new unit. 1 bright/dead pixel out of 8M+ is apparently enough to have your unit replaced. :D

Received the new unit today. It was a complete, brand new retail package. TCL just sends out their replacement units and retrieves the old units through Transportify, which explains why the call center/central office had no clue what the status of delivery was when I made a follow up early this afternoon.

I’m in the market for a new tv. Saw in rtings that the tcl P6 was coming. The reviews were all awesome online. Got excited that the 65” P6 is releasing here on Wednesday.

I went to abensins today to check out the floor model. The picture quality was awful. No Dolby vision, roku os, Local dimming, etc. Turns out this ISNT the same as what is currently out in the US.

The viewing angles just plain awful.

It’s like my bubble burst. Tcl is being an ass. This is the 2018 models for south east Asia and Pakistan. Same model name na P6 but totally different specs between US and us poor countries. Pero same price.

some of the p6 series pinoy version (with PBA app, lol) is already available in the market since last week. The only one that has not been released is the 65" p6. According to dealers it will probably be released on Wednesday.

i'd stay away from it. Kahit ba it's so much cheaper than the LG's, Samsungs, and Sonys. It sucks

yikes. so hindi pala ito same sa R6 models sa US na maganda reviews sa Rtings and The Verge?

Suggest guys you check out the TCL 65x3...
I think may mark down price na ito.
Very good PQ din for its price and the built in "soundbar" is good too...
Specs says it has Micro Dimming, not sure if this is the same as Local Dimming.

Nope, micro dimming is not real local dimming, sadly. Even the C2 series has that feature.

yes I thought so too. I was floored by the reviews sa US tapos upon actual inspection sa ansons nakita ko yung difference. Buti hindi ko binili sa OLX sellers otherwise idedeliver nila without me even testing it.

ang daya nga e. Same price ng nasa US pero we get the crappy one. Pareho sha sa labas. You can't help but think na ginaidiot tayo ng TCL.

Naglabas na ng bago ang TCL.  P6 naman, looks more or less the same ng p2 natin with more online channels. Not sure kung HDMI 2.0a na, or 2.0 pa rin.

I have the TCL P6 for a week now and been using it mostly as a PC monitor.  I can confirm that this TV has 3 HDMI 2a ports and supports HDR on windows 10 and PS4 Pro.
To enable UHD resolutions, press Settings button on the remote, scroll down to System, then press down again until the Advanced Settings, press it and turn on HDMI 2.0. however make sure that your connected HDMI cable is High speed and Ethernet capable as indicated on its specs.

Haha napadaan ako sa ansons kanina. Inquired about the P6 na kamukha ng r6 sa states.

No roku. Not even android tv. And considered as midrange lang dito sa atin. Mas high end pa yung c2 series na 2017 model. Yun yung may harman kardon na speakers.

Check ko na lang if pwede sa states ko bilhin tc

the r6 sa states have had quite a few recalls due to screen issues. They're calling it the panel lottery. In case you import one and it has the panel issue then you're SOL. I wouldn't risk it

I got the 65P6 for P48,500 from Anson through local distributor.  So far masaya naman po ako. :-)

I know I am not an expert but my family having a 4K Samsung 60" and 4k 50", and a Sony 4K 55" (x7007e) mas preferred ko yung TCL 65P6 especially when playing 4K movies with HDR na din. All those TVs were bought at an amount almost double of what I paid for with TCL in with respect to screen size.

Pinaka annoying dun yung may caption na "goodbye duterte, hello robredo", once you click it you will be transfferred to a youtube video na halatang fan made. others on the home screen are links to some maymay entrata video and your face sounds familiar, and a vice ganda video too. nakakainis, sa dinami dami ng pwedeng ilagay ay mga pang jologs pa ginawang defaults.

The manual lacks info, and i cannot find any good info about this model online aside from product reviews.

Yung software niya is not roku and not android...aside from that annoying home screen shortcut videos, ok naman siya. Remote has a dedicated netflix button, and it can upscale videos too,

Hi tcl owners. How is the tcl brand? Many problems? I wanna get the 50 incher na 4k for my living room sana.

2 of my samsung conked out recently. 1 is around 8 years na. Screen daw. No picture but have sound. The other still ok naman. Around 10 years na, but screen is whitening and cracking na. I wont spend na over 100 thou sa tv hehe.

Now itong tcl baka naman wont last a year or two? Feedback naman. Ty.

I forgot to mention that the 2sammy tvs we owned, 1 died and had to be revived (but in a not 100%quality anymore) while the other one is now showing burnouts. :) both are less than 3 years old if i am not mistaken. Kung tatagal tv ko ng mga ganung edad ok na siguro. Pero 2 years naman warranty and based naman dito responsive naman ang customer support. :)

Planning to get TCL TV soon.  Choosing between the ff models:

TCL 55P6 = P28,500
TCL 55C2  w/ Harman Kardon speakers = P38,500

Leaning towards the 55C2 actually.

Anybody have this TV?  Would your recommend it or would your rather spend more to get the "better" brands.

well, like it's mentioned above iba talaga ang TCL models na nasa US vs yung binibigay sa atin. Same ang exterior but the interior is far inferior.

sa akin that's borderline deception.

and the OS na nasa pinas and the quality of the product dito compared sa US is way different. It was easy to decide not to buy it.

Pero before I knew I was so ready to buy it, even sight unseen.

Agree, ung TCL 55 D2700 ng 2 kids ko nasira after approx 1 year (kid's shows lang palabas) hindi pa ganon kagamit since LG naman main TV sa sala.

Buti nalang 2 yrs warranty, pero ung model na un phased out na, we ended up replacing it with a 55" Samsung curved TV, additional 11k nabayaran namin.

was browsing at a store in alabang, TCL rep asked me to look at their TCL demo. During demo (P6), the rep is saying that TCL is becoming a well known brand, and saying at par na yung P6 with other brands like samsung, sony etc.   I asked her if I can play a movie from my usb, we played the opening sequence of Quantum of Solace (car chase scene), initially the TV was stretched, i asked her to make it letterboxed, she had to reset settings from demo.
Upon seeing lots of judder, she said mag sony na lang po kayo if movies panunuorin nyo...

TCL bulok!

Bought one on sale for 6,999 and broke after 6 months of just weekend use! Literally, from Friday afternoon, Saturday, and until Sunday afternoon.

And the worst part, repair costs goes up to 10,500 for parts and labor. TCL seems to think that people are stupid.

I'll never buy any product of this brand ever again. Never.

i don't care about the tv brand as long they had the up to date features such as 4K HDR / 10-bit panel / 120hz. refresh rate / all of its HDMI ports are ver. 2.0 full bandwidth support / >500 nits of panel brightness and offered in an affordable price.

Ung LG TV namin sa sala mas gamit, morning shows (just to monitor time), lunchtime & TV night shows. Weekdays & weekends ginagamit pero maayos pa rin.

Kaya nung papaltan na nila ng TCL latest model, umayaw na si esmi, she opted for the cheap 55" Samsung curved TV, di bale magdagdag ng bayad basta tumagal naman..

I wish I read this thread before yesterday. I just purchased a 43 inch UHD TCL smart TV as a replacement for my 9 year old samsung 32 inch FHD TV and so far, ok naman...I bought it for around 28,000 pesos which is a bargain considering 4k na sya.....After reading the comments here, I became worried so I decided to join the forum....

Anyway, a couple of noobie questions(I'm not that knowledgeable about LED TVs).
- The HDMI 2.0 option is turned off by default. Do I need to turn this on for the 4k functionality? I have a 4k chromecast so I want to make sure that Im getting 4k when streaming.
- The TV is supposed to be digital ready but I'm not getting any channels when I try auto scanning...Is there something I need to do? Do I need to install an antenna?(we live in Valenzuela so it's still part of metro manila).

Thanks to anyone who will answer.
Crossing my fingers that I did not get a lemon unit and that my new TV will last as long as my previous one.

Yes, you need to turn on HDMI 2.0. You also need to use HDMI 2.0 cable ha. And 4k source like Apple TV 4k.

You need to buy a digital antenna, or if you have a spare TV Plus, you can use that antenna. May mga ISDB-T antenna sa Ace Hardware for less than PhP 500.

Anong model ng TCL mo? I am wondering kung bakit 28k sya for a 43" UHD HDR TV.

Title: Re: TCL Owner's thread

Last Saturday, I bought a TCL 43P6 4K HDR for bedroom use. I bought it at Anson's for PhP 21,500.00.

Here are my feedback/observations:

Picture Quality is great.  I am not an expert, and I haven't bought any HDMI 2.0 cables yet for my PS4 Pro. I have yet to upgrade to Apple TV 4K. So my only true gauge is the native Netflix app and the UHD shows there like The Haunting on Hill House.  It looks gorgeus on 4K HDR.

Only 2 HDMI ports, and as far as I can tell, neither is ARC-capable HDMI 2 is ARC.  I am just not sure if Dolby pass thru will work.  I hope so, because the options in the settings for audio are Auto and PCM only.  Maybe Auto is for pass thru?

The analog input is 3.5mm but it comes with a free3.5mm to RCA adapter.

There is no analog out, but there is optical out and bluetooth. And since I connect via analog to my Creative 2.1 speakers, I had to buy a DAC.

Speaking of audio out, the only choices are Auto and PCM.  I have no idea what Auto is, because PCM is the only other option.  My HISENSE TV has PCM, DD, and DLP.

Built-in speakers sound terrible. I have a Toshiba LED TV, a HISENSE LED TV, and a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV.  They all sound decent.  TCL sounds really bad.  You will want to output the audio to external speakers.

GUI looks like crap and there's no way to even slightly personalize it. There are so many built-in and installable apps but they are all useless (except for Netflix and YouTube).  PBA apps and CNN apps have not been updated in a year.

The only choice for country in the setup is Philippines, as all the other choices are non-English speaking countries.

The remote control looks terrible. It is thinner and longer than usual. Button layout is unintuitive.  There is a Netflix button but no YouTube button.

So in summary, it lacks a lot of features, apps are crap, but picture quality is great and the price is unbeatable.  I wish TCL just skipped on the "Smart" TV functionalities and just added features like ARC and DD/DPL output.

Yup....I believe eto yung local version....the "US" is just part of the model #....hindi din roku yung OS nito(linux).......So far ok naman...napagana ko na yung HDR sa PS4 ko(wala pang ps4 pro so no 4k).......nakukulangan lang ako sa HDMI ports so I might need to buy an HDMI switcher....any suggestions regarding sa magandang brand ng HDMI switcher?

Thanks!

Only 2 HDMI ports, and as far as I can tell, neither is ARC-capable. So if you're planning to connect this to an ARC-capable AV receiver, this is not the TV for you. My HISENSE TV has ARC which outputs to my ARC receiver.

I think we purchased the same model.......damn, if I knew na 21500 lang sya sa ansons, sana dun nalang ako bumili.....I checked online(lazada) and it looks like ang normal price range ng 43P6US is around 25-28K.......Original price nung sa akin 28,000 but I was able to haggle and bring it down to 26,000...akala ko nakamura na ako sa landers...

Yeah, I double checked and 43P6US nga nakalagay sa sticker sa box, pero sa receipt 43P6 lang sinulat ng taga Anson's. PhP 22,995 ang listed price nya sa Anson's. Pag cash, it goes down to PhP 21,500 pag tinawaran.

You can also get the 50" P6US online for 24,900 any time.

So from the back panel, HDMI 2 pala yun ARC, and it appears that both HDMI ports support 2.0.  Also, may sticker sa likod na Dolby Audio.  I guess pass thru sya when using ARC?  Kasi ang options lang sa audio output is Auto and PCM.

I don't think the version of P6 that was released here supports Dolby Vision.

Does the manual or box have any mention of Dolby Vision?

so far i have not had any problems 65p6us. yung maliit pala 2 lang hdmi? maraming nadagdag na features once i updated the firmware. my only gripe is that the picture is stretched when you first play a movie you have to go to the settings and manually re select original for it to be corrected. dapat ayusin nila sa next update. tapos yung ibang format walang sound. pero konti lang yun. yung youtube downloads lang.

Opportunity presented itself and i was able to upgrade my 4 year old 40 inch MyView LED TV. There was a promo at Abensons that had the 50p62us bundled with a washing machine.

My uncle needed a 40in TV and a washing machine for his condo. I pretty much got the TV for around 14K lang so kinuha ko na din despite the bad reviews for the brand.

So far ok naman. Im a newbie to smart TV so nangangapa pa.

Will need tips on how to sideload apps on this as the built in app store only has crappy apps.

Anyone knows how to enable debugging?

Can someone share their picture settings as well please?

We also have a TCL tv model C49P3FS 49" screen.

Ang gusto ko sana matanggal yung mga youtube trending videos link sa home screen, minsan kasi mga jologs na stuff lumalabas, mahirap kung may bata sa bahay, although it is not logged in to a youtube account. Overall ok naman yung tv. May dedicated netflix button sa remote. and pressing it, can also turn the tv on and take you directly to your netflix page.
Yung mga built-in apps na iba crappy, netflix lang ginagamit ko dyan. Cannot even install spotify or other online streaming applications.

Really itching to get this one and I think this is the best deal at this sub 40k price range. The only thing that holds me back is possible reliability issues down the line.
Title: Re: TCL Owner's thread
Post by: tigkal on Jul 26, 2019 at 02:53 PM
I think TCL has a 2 year warranty provision. Based on my experience, reliability issues crop up during the first two months of extensive use. My TCL need to be manually connected to wifi every time you turn on after one month  of use. TCL replaced with an upgraded model no questions asked.  If no issues during that time, most likely will be okay down the road later. With today's planned obsolescence, Electronics usually have an end of life of 5 years.

When new, use extensively so that problems will show if there is an issue.

Here is my 4 months old TCL556us...   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1EBPIOnmmQ&t=4s.

I have a 30 mbps Fiber connection and it can stream 4k videos/movies from Netflix & YouTube.  The  "Smart Tv" function is buggy and I don't really like it. I only using this for PS4 Pro
gaming, Netflix, YouTube and local tv programs with TV Plus. Forget about the built-in tv tuner, pangit ang lalabas even using the same outdoor antenna with the tv plus box. BTW use
the tv plus with hdmi output.  Picture quality is good, slick design cya so maganda tingnan, naka wall mount ito ngayon at may kasama na pala cyang wall mount bracket. No bluetooth function, sometimes napuputol yung wifi connection nya, when watching Youtube, pero sa Netflix tuloy-tuloy naman, hindi ko alam kung bakit.  Overall impression maganda cya for the price.

Hi Guys,

Writing in just to ask for your suggestions and inputs.

I'm planning to buy a brand new TV this coming week. I have narrowed it down with TCL and Samsung panels.

I'm having a hard time to choose which TCL panel I'll get as the reviews in the internet are all different model number. I want the TCL S517 model, which counterpart model is it in our market?

My budget is 20k-40k, I've narrowed it down between

Samsung RU7100 and Samsung NU7090
vs.
TCL A8US, TCL C6US, P5US, PS61US, and P8S

Tried searching the web for TCL panels reviews but with no avail, all reviews are only available for US? market model number. Which is quite confusing as there are no equivalent model with those reviews that are available in the PH.

Mainly for movies and PS4 Pro

Thank you in advance!

Cheers!

Nagmamadali ka ba bumili? Maglalabasan na kasi mga sale this weekend.   ;D
I'm sure you can get a really good tv for 40k.

My general rules of thumb for choosing a tv would be:

• dapat may HDR
• the bigger the screen, the betterer
• get the highest nits rating that you can
• do NOT get anything less than 2 year warranty
• must support apps (android tv is best)
• must have game mode
• must have ISDB
• must have H265 support (HEVC)
• local dimming feature is definitely a plus
• ARC is also a plus
• always bring a USB dongle with your audition clips

If you don't mind a 55" (instead of a 65"), Sony TV's are also on sale within your budget.

Thank you sa input sir! Thank you ulit sa reply and noted mga input nyo sir.

Heto yung dalawa kong nakita na TCL, 65P6 and 65P8US.

Mas modelo si P8, mas bago processor, mas mataas ang RAM, mas mataas contrast ratio, may local dimming na, HDR10+ (instead of HDR10), etc. Suggest ko kung sa TCL, kay P8 ka na.

I was casually walking around Abenson and found out they just got new stocks of the 65A8US listed on sale at ₱37,990.

I offered ₱35k in cash and they said yes; result: impulse buy.

I'll post a review here in the coming days.

The P8S is more expensive because it has Wide Color Gamut and supports Dolby Vision. Is the extra ₱10+k premium justified by these 2 features is debatable.

If you can get the P8S under ₱40k then that's probably a good deal. Above ₱45k may mean you might want to wait until after December for the clearance sales.

The P8S has an even better panel than the A8US I bought, but being priced over ₱40k is above my impulse-buy threshold.  ;D

*    *    *

Anyways, I have been floored by the PQ of my 65 A8US, colors are actually better than my old plasma, it's only in the blacks where I feel the plasma has the edge.  No stuttering as well on 4k using YouTube, which I occasionally got on older my 55" 4ktv, which now looks like crap compared to this TV.

you'd think they'd have better panels because that's based on reviews from the US, but the local TCL's are given much inferior panels. Read up on this thread to know more.

in my opinion local TCL's are not worth even half of their selling price

I would disagree.

I'm quite happy with my cheapo ₱35k 65 inch A8US. Absolute value for money. I auditioned this next to more expensive (₱40k+) models from LG, Samsung, Sharp, and Sony, the PQ on this model was actually better. Note that the Samsung and Sharp only had 1 year warranties too.

Perhaps the 2018 and earlier models were not as good.

Nung nakita ko yung sa SM sinabi ko sa sarili ko na kung bumaba to ng ₱35k kakagat ako kaso ayaw nung promodiser.

Sa Abenson kumagat sila, from ₱37,990 to ₱35k kaya kumagat rin ako.

Negatives, so far:

Tried playing my BD ISO's using Kodi and it was definitely lagging. On my MiBox these wouldn't even load so fair play to the TV. Will try some of my 100Mbps 4K drone footage to see if I can crash the TV. ISO's run fine on my XBox and HTPC, of course.

Optical out can only do 2.0, either on "PCM" or "Auto" settings. Sent an email to their support team and will call their helpdesk on Monday to find a fix.  This is a bummer since I was hoping to use just the TV and the avr (no consoles/media players/htpcs) to get surround sound on Netflix.

New discoveries:

Haven't been able to crash Android TV yet, which is good. I'll also check if I can root this TV.

Side loading apps was not a problem.

YouTube has been smooth, including 4k HDR 60fps clips.

Currently using Smart HDR mode during the day and Movie mode at night. There is a bit of over-saturation using Smart HDR but this should be fine as it can be quite bright during the day, anyway.  If I were to draw the blackout curtains in the room, Movie would definitely be the mode of choice.

I was able to try some 60Mbps 4k (60 fps) drone vids and the tv was still fine playing it.  It turns out I don't have anything in a higher bitrate than that so I'll probably just find some online to test.

Here are a couple of the videos I checked to test out.  You might want to try these out too.

Light bleed test: https://youtu.be/tPdLZ9g0l28
LG Demo:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eT9PEHayVk

The A8 did very well on both.  Every brightness gradient was visible and colors were consistent.  I'd say PQ-wise, this TV is definitely pushing way above its SRP.

About 8-10 feet. For non-4k content, I honestly don't notice any difference at all between my 55" and 65".

4k seems a bit more clear on the 65" but even then you're splitting hairs.  Distances further than 10ft will probably show more marked differences.

Inferior where? Panel?

Looking to have the ff:

at least HDR10
local dimming would be nice
good color, brightness and contrast - doesnt have to be the same as the US version but above average, Im coming from a Sony with IPS panel - piss poor blacks.

The A8US and the P8US are basically the same.  This model is called the P660 in the European market and P8M in others.  This exact model isn't available in the US (the ones stateside are Roku TV powered) but the panel could very well be the same one used in the 4 series.

What's your budget?  The 65 A8US and the 65 P8US are both about ₱36k these days and should suit your needs.  The P8S is a higher model and is at ₱44k, but could well be cheaper in cash.

Thank you for this sir!

My budget is around 25-40k for a 55 or will stretch to a 65 given the prices Im seeing in the malls.

I demoed a 55A8US now and tinkered with calibration a bit, turning off all noise reduction and adjusting contrast and colors, micro dimming turned on and I was floored.

So, is the micro dimming the same as local dimming (zones) from other brands? because looking at the demo, it really improved the blacks (asked the salesman to play the Samsung 4k file they were looping on the other sets).

Title: Re: TCL Owner's thread
Post by: Verbl Kint on Jan 08, 2020 at 03:33 PM
If you plan on getting a 55", I would suggest you also demo the TCL 55 P8S  (around ₱28k cash at Anson's).

The biggest advantage that the P8S has over the A8US/P8US is Wide Color Gamut (aka WCG) (http://"https://www.cnet.com/how-to/what-is-wide-color-gamut-wcg/"), but basically everything else is the same.  WCG can potentially bring better colors than a standard TV panel.  Now, is this worth the extra ₱4-₱5k increase in price for the 55"?  I would leave that to the potential buyer to decide.

Micro dimming / local dimming is implemented differently per panel type and per brand.  The A8US uses a dynamic backlight system to do it, also known as "frame dimming" in other brands (i.e. Sony).

+ + +

Considering your budget, though, I would recommend getting the 65 A8US.  It may not have WCG, but it is a bigger panel.  Extra cost here might well be delivery to your house as a 65" tv will not fit in a sedan or crossover.  Possible extra cost as well will be to get a guy to mount it on your wall, where it deserves to be.  :)

Happy hunting!

Yea I was thinking the bigger panel would make up for the slightly lesser picture quality. So wala pala WCG yung A8US...

This was a typo; my apologies. It was available for ₱29k cash during the holidays, not ₱28k. On Carousell, you can get this 55 P8S for ₱29,900.

For that price, you might want to consider the Sony 55 X7007g as well. It also has WCG and micro dimming.

I also jumped the gun and bought the 65A8US lately from Abenson - primarily because of cost/size.

I was able to unbox only late last night.  It is big and heavy.

Build quality is quite far from known brands.  Built in speakers are weak and has a flat response.   Color rendition is yet to be judged as I have not calibrated the design, and found the presets not to my liking.

UI/UX on this unit is not as intuitive/easy compared to my previous TV's.  The only upside is the cost/size and AndroidTV.

Enabled the motion interpolation (soap opera look) thing, and the entire screen flickered like crazy.  Disabling it returned the screen back to normal.  Do your TCL units exhibit the same behavior (have read some post in other forums mentioning some similar experience to this)?  I like how Samsung and Sony implement their interpolation, and usually have them enabled when viewing sports events.

Well, you cant have them all.  :)

65A8US - discovered that the volume gets stuck on a certain level as lowest. from one to 25 i think, same level lang.

you'll need to perform a manual restart (settings - about - restart) before it restores to proper volume level adjustment. and yes, auto-volume adjust is off.

hassle pag early mornings and you want to watch at lowest volume.

Even if i do Picture reset i do not get any other option available. what am i missing?

For my 65A8US, it is under Settings-Picture-Advanced Settings-Motion-LED Motion Clear.  However, on my later research, this seems to refer to Black Frame Insertion or "LED Clear Motion" for Samsungs (hahaha, wordplay) so dim and flicker was expected.

I also do not have HDR settings, but it seems to be enabled by default for Netflix as the "HDR10" logo appears momentarily upon playback of HDR titles.  I don't know if this is just a logo. Pressing "I" during playback only displays resolution, not the colorspace.  Youtube app however seems not to display HDR.  No logo appears, and checking Stats for Nerds show a bt709 colorspace instead of bt2020.

The only backlight-related settings I can find on my unit is Dynamic backlight and Micro dimming, both under Advanced Settings-Brightness Settings, on most picture presets except for Smart HDR.

HTH.

HTH.

^Thank you sir. appreciate you taking time to share.

The Picture Presets is what i no longer see. I remember seeing it before. I do not have any external devices connected at the moment. I think that might be the reason why the option is not appearing. I'll try to connect something on HDMI.

Performed the picture reset and now it no longer defaults to "All Sources" i can select current source but does nothing. maybe because there's nothing else plugged in.

I do not get the HDR10 logo either which i was getting before on the 50P6US i had.

I own a 50P8US and I can't seem to make the ARC work. The HDMI1 port has an ARC label but I can't freaking find any way to turn it on under settings. Not under sound, not under CEC.

Is there a hidden menu to enable this?

Native Android TV YouTube app seems not able to display HDR (BT2020).  However, sideloading Smart YouTube TV app is able to trigger TV to display HDR10 logo, but am not sure it is really HDR10.  Video looks "contrasty" though.  :)

Im thinking of getting the 43p8m for kitchen use. Any comment regarding video and audio quality? How about the UI? It will be used mostly for netflix, stream videos from NAS and some light surfing. Presently Im using My view but the smart function is so slow I cant use it anymore. I cant use media player because of space limitation so I need functions that are built in with the TV. Thanks

Tried playing a 20gb file but couldn't get audio from the default player and mxplayer but worked on vlc and i got the HDR10 logo briefly flashing in the upper left corner on my 55A8US. Worth the price for me since this is what my budget is. Sulit na for the 2 year warranty din. Sayang nga lang walang true game mode and soap opera effect but thats expecting too much na for a 20k UHD tv. Cheers!

There are youtube videos you can try out for calibrating your TV.  Picture settings would differ for most users as room lighting and user preference has an impact.

Thanks in advance.

Disabled authentication sa router

Same pa din. Netflix and Kodi still works just fine.

Holding off resetting at mag research muna.

Purchased TCL 43P8M at Anson's. Got it for 16500php. I find the picture quality really decent. Not the level of Samsung but for my usage of Netflix/Youtube lang, I consider it a good buy.

Sharing some settings that I have:
Picture Mode - Movie
Brightness - 60
Contrast - 100
Sharpness - 0
Gamma - 0
Micro Dimming - low
White Balance - did not tinker with it since I don't know how
every other setting is set to off (i.e dynamic contrast etc...)

Mas ok yung PSUS kasi mas maganda PQ (i.e. wide color gamut). Para sa akin worth it yung extra cost kasi ₱40k mahigit yan last xmas, yung p8m naman dating ₱36k

It's hard to trust displays at the store, just because the settings there are being cared for by people who are not as nerdy as us when it comes to AV gear.  Some shops even display 720p files on 4k tv's.  ::)

I would suggest you check out the specs sheets of the TV's that you liked and do a comparison on paper.  And then go to a shop which will let you play with the settings to your heart's content (I really miss shops like SnS as these guys definitely help you out for stuff like this).

Note that the TCL QLEDs are, in fact, Samsung QLED panels.  The TU8000 is a good entry-level TV but it is a basic VA panel and doesn't do wide color gamut.  The TCL CV715 has a superior panel and will likely have better color calibration from the factory compared to Samsung entry-level panels that typically need a good calibration session to get the colors just right.  It supports Dolby Vision and has a 2-year warranty as well.

Hi Verbl,

Thanks for your feedback. Actually I did get the 55C716 to be delivered tomorrow. The folks at Cash and Carry Makati were much more accommodating than the store I first visited. They were also very knowledgeable and was able to guide me on how to operate the unit.

The Samsung 1 year warranty was a bummer too. I asked if there is a program to extend the warranty but was told there is none...

The TV itself is very impressive. Picture clarity is great. Bad news is TCL ran out of stock (55 QLED).

I'm torn between getting the TCL QLED for 29K vs a Sony KD-55X8000G for 26.5K. Both have 2 year warranties

Hi folks. Been using the 55C716 for a couple of hours now. Most noticeable con for me is ung response time ng Android OS nya. I am not sure sa ibang Android Smart TVs as this is the first one I've had, but it feels noticeably laggy. Example mag open ako ng setting from the remote it would take roughly a second or more to register. Kaya minsan nakakadalawang press na ako tsaka pa lang gagalaw haha. But for the price I can live with it - hopefully  :-[

Picture quality wise I can say it is very impressive. I mostly use the Movie picture reset since movies and Netflix ko lang naman ginagamit ung TV. The Smart HDR preset puts a copperish tint sa display so I dont use it much. Havent tried the other presets. First time ko mag ka TV na nakikita ung pores sa mukha lalo na pag UHD content lol.

I have not been able to test the sound much, hindi ko kase malakasan since I am just renting a room and nakakahiya sa mga kasama ko sa bahay. Will probably check pag ako lang sa bahay one of this days.

For now tago muna sya at di pa dumadating yung stand ko from Lazada.

This is downright scary. And since the vulnerability is on http, you can still potentially access the filesystem even behind a router or firewall.

It looks like I'll be doing some testing of my own tomorrow.

saw this in my newsfeed today

TCL smart TVs may have 'Chinese backdoor' — protect yourself now (https://www.tomsguide.com/news/tcl-smart-tv-security-flaws)

And there goes my intent to purchase the QLED from TCL.....pass na lang ako

TCL has responded to the backdoor claims:

https://support.tcl.com/vulnerabilities-found-in-tcl-android-tvs

Alert: Vulnerabilities found in TCL Android TVs

TCL was recently notified by an independent security researcher of two vulnerabilities in Android TV models. Once TCL received notification, the company quickly took steps to investigate, thoroughly test, develop patches, and implement a plan to send updates to resolve the matter. Updating devices and applications to enhance security is a regular occurrence in the technology industry, and these updates should be distributed to all affected Android TV models in the coming days.

TCL takes privacy and security very seriously, and particularly appreciates the vital role that independent researchers play in the technology ecosystem. We wish to thank the security researchers for bringing this matter to our attention as we work to advance the user experience. We are committed to bringing consumers secure and robust products, and we’re confident that we’re putting in place effective solutions for these devices.

FAQ

Who discovered these vulnerabilities
The discovery was made by two industry researchers @sickcodes and @johnjhacking.

Do these vulnerabilities apply to models sold in the USA or Canada?
CVE-2020-27403 is not an issue in product deployed in North America.  However, select televisions sold in the USA and Canada are affected by CVE-2020-28055.   We expect to resolve this in the coming days.

Are all TCL televisions affected?
TCL has deployed hundreds of models in North America and only a limited number are involved.  The following models are impacted by CVE-2020-28055: 32S330, 40S330, 43S434, 50S434, 55S434, 65S434, and 75S434.

When was TCL made aware of these vulnerabilities?
The TCL lab was made aware of the discovery at 11:30am on October 27.  Within hours, the issues had been verified and the security compliance team triggered the vulnerability management response process.  The solution for CVE-2020-27403 began deployment on October 30 via APK upgrade.  The TCL lab is working around the clock to test the solution for a system upgrade to address CVE-2020-28055 to complete the modification of directory permissions. Pending successful testing, it is expected that updates will start being distributed in the coming days.

I did a port scan last week of 3 android TV's: a Sony, a Skyworth, and a TCL.  From inside the NAT, it seems that the Sony had more open ports (probably since it's the oldest TV), with the Skyworth next. From outside the NAT, there wasn't anything to be seen.  The TV's were all on the home screen and connected via wifi, no apps were running other than the usual background daemons and services.

I haven't run any scripts yet to try out if the open ports can be exploited as it's been very busy for us at work (budget season + prepping for the holiday online shopping season).

My preliminary findings tend to lean towards the conclusion that the older your android version is, the more vulnerable it could be.  It does seem safe behind a router, though.  I can imagine the safest way would likely be turning off wifi on the tv and using ethernet or powerline instead.

I haven't done another set of tests yet but I'm confident that your tv's are safe so long as your home network is safe.

First time TCL owner here. Niregaluhan kami ng 65P715 model. Anyone here uses the same model? May preferred settings ba kayo for Netflix? Will be using this as well for console gaming next year. Some issues I have read about this unit are one, hirap sila mag pair ng BT device in which I haven't tried yet then hirap din mag connect thru WiFi. Hoping di namin maencounter yung said issues. Hehe.

New model po yan at QLED na (it's an Abenson only model, btw), so far parang dalawa pa lang yata kayo dito ang meron niyan hehe.  I would suggest using calibration videos in YouTube using the highest possible resolution (4k sana).

What I do know is that calibration straight out of the factory is already pretty good, you would just need to do a little tweak here and there depending on preference.  Enjoy!

Thank you, Sir. Actually yung factory settings out of the box are very good. User friendly din yung navigation nya if gusto mo palitan picture mode. Try ko adjust lang ng konti para di ganun katingkad sa black scenes.

Consider the C716 as well, it's slightly better than the Abenson exclusive C715.

The TU8000 series is an entry-level panel. The C715/716 is a Samsung QLED panel. That alone makes the TCL the better deal. Note as well that the Samsung only has a 1 year warranty.

i have two tcl tvs.  the p8m and the qled 716.

the qled is better with the colors and the sound is much much better. mas buo ang tunog pag nasa table.  wall mounted, the bass is diminished significantly.

what irks me is both models have bugs.  when you optimize android it says "scaning".  then if you use manual time and your internet disconnects, when you reconnect, wifi says "connected, no internet".  you have to go back to automatic time to fix the issue.

also, qled could use more black details and the motion is not as smooth as samsung, lg or sony.

i would have gone hisense with the better picture quality but the commander wanted android.  in hindisght, i should have just bought a new chromecast with the hisense.

having said that, i am still satisfied with the tcl qled.

Bought a 55 C716 (QLED) for the office.  Pleasantly surprised that Netflix actually displays "Dolby Vision" on content which has it.

Still busy catching up on the inevitable holiday work backlog but this tv has been great so far in the two days since it arrived.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210106/67a6030485e0cb9efaf75892d766c864.jpg)

Chances are if there is no power= Power Supply or Fuse, there is power but no display= Panel.

it happen to my Samsung before no power & its the PSU, got it change around P4k coz no more warranty at that time. Yours is still under warranty? if yes then replacement would surely be free.

UPDATE: Called TCL’s Customer Service. They required me to do the following:
1. Email copy of proof of purchase
2. Email copy of warranty card
3. Email picture of TV
4. Email video proof that TV not working

However, it will take 48-hours to “validate” re: submitted documents. TV was purchased from SM Appliance Center Dec. 16, 2019 so still under 2-year warranty.. Then TCL said after the 48-hours evaluation, they’ll send a technician to check the unit w/in 5-days

So, I called the Service Center directly here in Davao. Location is 5mins away by car. Tehy got the details, serial no. etc. And they’ll visit tomorrow. They confirmed that unit is still under warranty. However, for parts needed, may take 10-12days to be shipped to Davao from Manila as they do not have stocks of parts here. ABANGAN!

If it's a power supply, chances are the service center overstocks these as they are typically the first ones to conk out.  Good luck on your warranty!

https://www.smarthouse.com.au/tcl-to-deliver-new-google-tv-to-older-android-tvs/

TCL is set to be the first to deliver the all-new Google TV OS, with older 2019 and 2020 TVs set to get an over the air update.

Late last year Google announced that their old Android TV was being rebranded with TCL set to be the first to deliver the update. The #2 global TV brand will start rolling out the upgrades in Europe and the USA and Australia later this year.

The Chinese manufacturer said that it plans to update its 2019 and 2020 lineup of Android TVs to Android 11 for TVs.

Google announced Android 11 for TVs last September, but TCL says that the new update is scheduled for Q3 2021 when Android 12 will be released.

Post by: bejiboys on Jul 15, 2021 at 03:17 PM
My LED65A8US, purchased January 2020 died.  It seemed like a backlight issue.  With a flashlight upfront, you can discern the TCL logo, and the Android logo also during power up at certain angles, and if lucky that you could launch Youtube and a selected video based from the shadows, will playback audio.

Unit was bought at Waltermart, and should still be under the 2 year warranty.   Couldn't find the thread re: repairs and warranty claims for some other owners.  Can you suggest how to go about the claims and repair?  Was trying to call the tech support numbers on the warranty certificate, but just get a busy tone.

I have some vague memory of a Waltermart sales person, mentioning claims to be done by bringing the unit back to them.  However, would want to avoid the hassle of unmounting, boxing and delivering the unit to Waltermart, moreso that they will also pass the same unit to the service center.

Thanks.

Call Waltermart and see if they can provide you a direct line to TCL customer support.  Since it's a 65in, you can easily tell them that it's too big for you to carry on your own.

Meanwhile, here are TCL numbers that I used before:

@usbslave:  did not check, and don't know how to get into the service menu to see hours used.  medyo "high milage" ang average use ko since the lockdown, siguro around 12 hours of use per day.  kung confirmed backlight issue, hindi siguro particular to this tcl tv model yung problema.

July 27 update:  In my case, it took them more than 7 days (and additional follow-up mails and calls) to have a technician to arrive on site.  The closest service center near me was already removed from accreditation, and they had to transfer to another one (Montas Electronics Service).

Not great news for me though.  The tech readily confirmed that the units backlights were defective, but they do not do onsite repairs on TCL TV's of this size (?)  :)  In around 10 mins, all I had on hand was a service report with the initial diagnosis of a defective backlight (which I already knew from the onset), and a "failed to repair" tickbox marked.  Repair resolution is blank.

Tech mentioned that this report will be sent to TCL, and mentioned this typically will entail replacement of the entire panel (or was it the entire TV set ?  :)) which would take around 3 weeks, but delivered directly to my home.

So, in a nutshell, I am still neutral in terms of TCL aftersales/warranty service at this point in time.  Will update this owners' thread when I get significant updates - hopefully soon.

August 2 update:  Not so lucky with TCL customer service.  After a week more from last home visit of TCL service tech, no movement until now.  I had to call customer service to follow-up the status and disposition of my TV.  Problems with service center not submitting diagnostic reports with TCL causing delays.  Now, the RMA case is for approval for replacement of unit subject to availability of stocks.  They say if approval granted, it would take 2-4 weeks to replace.  :(

Only consolation is that replacement unit will be delivered to my doorstep - thus not needing to go to the stores to bring defective unit and claim replacement.  Good thing my old 49MU6103 is around and working.

unfortunately my 55a8us that i bought last may2020 started to have what looked like backlight flicker on the left section of the screen. so i called tcl customer service on a monday and the technician arrived on friday of the same week. luckily the authorized service center is just within our area.

that was when I was told by the tech to come really close about 6-8in to the screen and you will then see horizontal hairline thin lines probably rows of pixels losing colors. so they are what appeared to be the flickering when viewed from a distance as they were present top to bottom but only on the left half of the screen.

diagnosis, panel issue.  tech said that panel replacement was the likely action to be done. but i insisted to note it in his report that i preferred unit replacement as this was a major part of the item that you do not normally replace.  this is the reason i have this unit in the first place, my lg uh6500 panel went bust at 26months.

i'm still awaiting the final resolution from tcl customer service. will provide the update as it becomes available.

btw, the "flickering" is not very obvious unless the image you are viewing is mostly static in cases like news room broadcast or large monochrome background like the start up logo of skycable (white background to blue square). the reason is that the "flicker" is black as it loses color so in fast or dark movie scenes you will be hard pressed to notice it. you might even mistake it as just your eyes adjusting to the light, scene or angle. it's a very fast "flicker" akin to when you blink your eyes really fast but only one side of the screen has it.

August 10 update:  TCL support ([email protected]) called and informed me that the replacement of my TV was approved.  However, as my LED65A8US unit was already outdated, they are offering to have it replaced by an updated model that they have on stock, a 65P727.   I would however need to pay additional charges for that updated model.

Does anybody have any idea/experience if this "updated" model is at least of equal functionality and value?

What was quite peculiarly mentioned in that call (but not noted on the email I requested to formally document the replacement offer) was that they would offer a 3 month warranty for the replacement unit.  I don't clearly understand what they meant, but if it means the unit is only warrantied up to 3 months upon receipt, aren't I on the losing end as if my old unit were not defective, it is still warrantied up to the end of its 2nd year - which is January '22?

Also, I asked if getting a more expensive variant, even if I were to pay more was an option (thinking if I were to shell out cash, might as well try the QLED variants).  The TCL support did not have any prepared answer, tantamount to a "no".

2021 tcl c725/727 has MEMC motion smoothing, full array local dimming and hdmi 2.1 i believe and it also get a little brighter and wide color gamut quantum dots for HDR and also dolby vision. if you go for P727 its like paying for a newer shell for the same TV you have.

i got the similar call/offer last friday, 6aug, to get a replacement earlier.  i was told that they are still seeking available stock to replace my 55a8us which will take about 2weeks. but if "i would accept" to pay ph3000.00 to get the 55p727 they can send it within a few days.

the 3 month warranty is an extension that is added to your original warranty expiry date. in your case it would be apr2022 (jan2022 + 3 mos).

i said i will wait for the 55a8us stock...for now :)

additionally found the 55p727 specs on a western appliance ad as follows:

Just learned na compatible ang TCL sa apple tv app. Tried it out, lumalabas yung dolby vision logo. I’m so happy kasi kung ano -anong app ginamit ko dati pero di lumalabas yung video sa screen at mas gusto ko talaga manood ng shows sa big screen kesa ipad.

@demjoe:  thanks for the info.  yup, got a reply from TCL that the 3 month extension is on top of the my existing warranty, so all is well.  i may take on the 3k option to upgrade.  i have had a long wait for my RMA to be served.  having the new specs are a bonus (dolby vision, MEMC, android 11, hdmi 2.1, wifi 5g).  i just hope that there would be no new "bug" bonuses.  :)

seems like the offer is a good deal to me. 3K probably just covers the cost to transport the units to and from.

my unit is a year or so old already. if that happens to me, i'd take a brand new unit for 3K which could last another 2 years.

Dolby Vision
Android 11 OS
Far-Field voice & AI-In, camera ready;
CPU-A55*4 1.3Ghz
HDMI 2.1*1, USB 3.0*1
WIFI (2.4G +5G Dual-band)

I would gladly pay an extra 3k just for HDMI 2.1, let alone the other extras.

I think the A8US isn't on Dolby Vision yet, too, which is also a worthy upgrade worth 3k. :)

at 7am today, i was half-awake and heard someone knocking at our gate as my doorbell was out of commission.
lo and behold a hi-ace van with tcl logo was at my door and out comes the 55p727 from the back. it's just a week after i got the call from tcl customer service about taking 2-3weeks to find stock of a8us/p8us or pay Ph3000 for the p727.

so as i had hoped i did not have to pay for the ph3,000 extra. of course i don't expect to get the 3mo warranty extension also.

one catch is that the wall mount holes of the p727 is 300x200 vesa.  so i could not use my existing movable arm wall mount that was 200x200. the unit comes with it's own fixed wall mount brackets though but i did not have it installed anymore as i will be moving my tv to another area of the house by next month.  the tech was in and out of my house in 30mins as i had it on table stands.

because everything happened so quick, i forgot to logout my google and netflix accounts from the old unit  :'(
so i had to reset all my account passwords ;)

now excuse me my while i play around with all of the settings of the p727  ;D

btw, there were 3 other 55p727 units in the van and couple other smaller ones. so lucky you if you also get your replacement today.

Aug 25 update:  At long last, I got my replacement unit delivered to my home yesterday.  Compared to the others who had their warranties attended to on time, I wasn't so lucky and it took a while for the replacement.

However, am much satisfied with the replacement.  Although I had to pay additional 3k for the "replacement upgrade" for the defective 65A8US, the performance and the new features of the 65P727 mentioned above is well worth it - for an entry level TV.

unfortunately my 55a8us that i bought last may2020 started to have what looked like backlight flicker on the left section of the screen. so i called tcl customer service on a monday and the technician arrived on friday of the same week. luckily the authorized service center is just within our area.

that was when I was told by the tech to come really close about 6-8in to the screen and you will then see horizontal hairline thin lines probably rows of pixels losing colors. so they are what appeared to be the flickering when viewed from a distance as they were present top to bottom but only on the left half of the screen.

diagnosis, panel issue.  tech said that panel replacement was the likely action to be done. but i insisted to note it in his report that i preferred unit replacement as this was a major part of the item that you do not normally replace.  this is the reason i have this unit in the first place, my lg uh6500 panel went bust at 26months.

i'm still awaiting the final resolution from tcl customer service. will provide the update as it becomes available.
same problem here. I havent contacted service center though.

I was able to install it on other Android devices. first you need a US Google account and VPN (USA server), duon pa lang lalabas yung Disney+, HBO Max sa google play. or yung iba eh sideload nila, pero madalas need ng update ng app kaya dapat naka US ang google play mo or you need to re-sideload it again.

Yes sir very accomodating sila. Sabi nga nila si tcl lang daw libre pullout ng unit. Sa ibang brand na hawak nila like sharp at prestize eh may pullout fee na icharge sa owner.
At least sir 2 years ang warranty nila. May case ako before sa samsung plasma ko nag ka issue before 2 years kaya napalitan ng panel. That time 2 years pa warranty. Pero ngayon hindi na muna ako mag samsung. 1 yr na lang kasi warranty nila

Sayang but good thing napalitan panel bago mag end ang warranty. Share ko na din contact info ng service center. Baka lang mag entertain sila ng walk in pagdating sa warranty. Try to call them in case need pa warranty(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220512/96ddd72d3d3bcf79d58f3308bfb068ac.jpg)

Google TV 11 na pala yung P727.  Probably needs a firmware upgrade as soon as you connect it to the internet.

Dolby Vision na rin siya, btw. :)

my replacement 65p727 is still android tv when it came.  forcing and online update does not provide an available upgrade/change path.  baka kelangan mag update using those fw available on some enthusiast website to change mine (though i see no reason to)

what is weird though, on the TCL link provided, it says google tv 11, but the image seem to show the old android tv UI.  :)

enjoy.

Note to other p727 users.  The ethernet/LAN port on the TV is only 100Mbps, confirmed via the link provided, and the tests I was forced to conduct to resolve my issue.

I usually connect my internet TV's wired directly to the router, for faster and more reliable connections.  However, when I upgraded my internet connection to 200Mbps a few months ago, I could not go past my old plan of 100Mbps using a speedtest app installed on the TV.  I thought all the while that Globe has not yet activated my request for upgrade.  They even came in an replaced the router with a new one, and it still did not get fixed.  When tested using a mobile however, I can go up to 250Mbps peak.

It occurred to me later to change the settings from wired to wireless.   Speedtest can now go full >200Mbps.

Counter-intuitive, but wireless is faster than wired, for my particular predicament.  :)  HTH.

Even if WiFi provides a higher speed compared to wired LAN and my router is within an arm's length of the TV, I experience occasional slowdowns with WiFi compared to wired LAN limited to 100 mbps. So I just went back to the wired option instead.

yep.  it seems like 4k only requires 20-25Mbps sustained for streaming (with compression, of course), so logical nga na wired LAN should serve the purpose and would be more advantageous in terms of reliability.

Hey guys TCL user here, E5700 model. 7 years old na rin ito. No problems whatsoever. 4K din kaso medyo terrible ang input lag and walang Game Mode.

I was planning to buy 43P735. Okay na ba ang input lag using PS5 on Game Mode? Also compared kaya sa LG C2, malayo kaya ang difference ng gaming input response? Based from displayspecifications.com 15ms si TCL while C2 is 5.3ms. Just wondering kung masyadong malaki ang difference, planning on playing competitive games (COD Warzone etc).

Title: Re: TCL Owner's thread
Post by: oznola on Aug 03, 2022 at 11:24 PM
got the TV fixed. LED backlights replaced. costed 6.5K and took close to 10 hours to complete. walang makuhang LED strips same sa original so individual lights were installed. total of 48 LED bulbs kaya tumagal.

hindi madali yung trabaho. baklasan pa lang mabusisi na sa dami ng turnilyo.

It's not the same as before. halata yung mga gaps pag solid white yung picture. i can live with it. tumagal ng another year and im good to replace it when and if it conks out again.

would i recommend yung gumawa to others? no. di ko gusto yung attitude at work ethics.

usapan namin 1PM. dumating 2PM na. i even messaged him around 10AM na agahan kung kaya. di man lang nag sorry na na-late siya ng punta.

tapos medyo mayabang din kesyo kilala daw nya mga maaayos gumawa, kesyo yung isang kinausap ko daw eh pache pache gumawa and yet yung gawa nya for me is pache pache din :D

Edit. alam ko kung ano yung gaps. yung mga wires. they are creating a shadow since nasa ibabaw nung white sheet unlike yung original, yung bulb lang naka labas sa butas.

awww hassle. kung may audio pa din, same issue nga yan and pwede backjob.

nung pina check din namin tv namin, nag set up ako ng table sa garage namin para hindi pumasok sa luob ng house yung technician. btw, wag ka din buy ng skyworth kasi after a year lang nagka horizontal lines na yung panel buti under warranty pa kaya palit panel na din.

Hirap na din makahanap reliable brand. Even the top ones di na din ganun ka tibay.

ang basehan ko na lang ngayon eh yung pinaka magandang after sales service. dyan lamang ang top brands. dati yung Samsung plasma tv namin eh kahit lapsed na ng 3 months yung warranty eh pinalitan pa din nila yung panel, although twice na (yung isa within the warranty period) nila pinalitan hehe saka mabilis response time nila with a week eh na check and napalitan na yung panel.

so far ang buhay ko pa na tv eh Panasonic LCD (2009), Sony (2015), Samsung curve (2020). hindi pa napapalitan yung panel ng Skyworth, 10 days na since na report namin.

Some fundamentals i follow. Lower brightness settings. More heat -> bad. Always use electronic devices. Turn it on once in a while and leave it to warm up  bit. Tatambak lang for future use? Sell it na lang or give to fam members. Caps degrade faater when not used in my experience. Ventilation over aesthetics. We're guys. Functionality reigns. Minsan panget talga chips used kaya malas na lang talaga.

thanks for the heads up sir .. yun P737 is P32,995.00 ..  being both 2022 model, am wondering if the P737 is way better than the P635?

Just looking at the specs on the TCL website, it looks like the P737 has wide color gamut and Dolby Vision while the P635 does not.

However, what I actually meant to type was the C635 which is a QLED panel and is superior to the P737 (sorry as it looks like my post was a typo).  It also has 120Hz VRR capability, which makes it a better gaming tv than the P737.

Check out C635 on Anson's or on FB Marketplace as the 55" is under 30k right now for cash payment.

The P737 has Atmos compared to the 635. If you are premium account holder of netflix you may be able to enjoy the Atmos signal from the TV then to the capable receiver. Am I right?

My A8US unit bought April 2020 gave up on me today while watching Nuggets-Timberwolves. :D
Blacked out and lines lang nakikita. Wala na pag asa to?

Call it in, it may well be just a quick parts change to fix.

bili ka na lang bago sir. out of warranty na din yan and mahirap sugalan paayos pa. natalo ako ng 6K+ ata dahil pinaaayos ko pa tapos after a week or two nag loko ulit.

^ Yan din naisip ko baka magbayad pa ako sa repair e di naman tatagal. Paid 20k for the unit, 3 years at height of lockdown, sulit na din yun TV hehe.

I also have an A8US. Died on me twice. First was a panel replacement (wala akong binayaran) next was a board replacement (paid around 5k, IIRC). It's been 2+ years since the board replacement so far ok pa naman.

^Ayus! meron naman pala successful repairs ang TCL. I might consider this if i cannot find a good deal on TVs I like. Actually, yun service center yata na nacontact ni @usblave ay malapit lang dito sa village namin.

Yung nag repair ng tv ko mukhang very experienced na. He was even mentoring his assistant on how to tape properly, watch out for frayed wires, make sure everything is grounded, etc. Probably in his mid to late 50s.

Our advantage is that the A8US has been around for a while so the repair guys know their way around it. :)

While I don't expect this to last the decade, at least masulit ko naman sana until maging obsolete na yung firmware. But truth be told, I still get updates for it years after its purchase date.

Rosarito ang name ng service center along France street. Kapag tumawag ka sa customer service banggitin mo na malapit ka sa rosarito. Goodluck sir sa tv mo

Any users ng p635 and/or p735? Hows the quality and performance? My 5.5 year old 55" hisense started flickering today. Though umayos naman sya, I'm afraid baka need na palitan soon. Thinking of getting a 65" screen this time of ever. Thanks in advance!

The new QLEDs should be coming out soon, you might want to check those out.  Pricing should also be lower now because of recession concerns.

Yup, that's it.  Note that TCL discounts its TV's even before the holiday season so buying now is probably not a good idea.

Had one. died 1 week after the warranty expired.  Not economically sound to have it fixed.
My Dad had one.  Died as well within warranty.  Repaired by TCL numerous times.

Both used with voltage regulators, power conditioners and in air conditioned rooms.

dito ko na lang ask.

meron ba sa inyo gumagamit ng wireless/air mouse remote with keypad?

anong brand works? ordered one (cheap C120 model) kaso kaso ayaw gumana. this one has the USB receiver.

dapat ata bluetooth? need it kasi to be able to navigate properly sa browser.

I used a bluetooth one during the pandemic; tv + media controls in front and has a keyboard on the reverse side.  This also has a mouse but it was not as good as the one I had for an LG TV.

It worked fine for a few months but one of my cats felled a speaker where the remote was resting on and it hasn't worked since. YMMV.

The C series has good PQ, better than the non OLED LG's. It's also 120Hz capable but be sure to update the firmware before you do any color calibrations or other settings.

32k is a really good deal for a 65" tv with a good QLED panel and HDMI 2.1. It will be a huge upgrade over your older TV. May free soundbar pa.

Just got to try out a TCL 65" C745 (QLED) in BKK, where it was on display with a PS5 and a gaming PC attached.  Considering it was set up with a console and a gaming PC, it can be expected that motion + refresh rates would be solid (and indeed it was).

What I was surprised was the color rendition, both on HDR10 and Dolby Vision, which I thought was nearly as good as on an OLED. After checking their website, it turns out this TV has:

• Full Array Local Dimming
• 144Hz VRR
• 1000 nits on HDR

There is also a higher-priced C755 (QD-mini LED), which can do 1300 nits on HDR and an even higher 2,000 nits on the even more expensive C845. All these models have the same 144Hz VRR capability.

I'm not sure which models are on sale in Manila right now but it looks like the best non-OLED gaming TV's available today are from TCL.
