Mga HT enthusiast need your help/opinion in deciding best option/s and looking for other suggestions as well.
Background:
Room - 4m x 3m with acoustic treatment
Receiver - Onkyo TX-NR656 (Pioneer VSX522 before)
I'm currently upgrading my HT to a 5.1.2 dolby atmos set-up. Speakers that i'm using is a Wharfedale Diamond 9 HCP. Initially i just want to get the Onkyo upfiring speakers. However, nasira yung front right speaker ng wharfedale so i'm just thinking to upgrade the whole speaker set. For now kinabit ko muna yung PSB Image T5 as Front and Right that i've taken from my audio setup. Huge difference.
Reasons for upgrading the speakers are:
1. To get the most out of the dolby atmos experience
2. Hirap drive wharfedale and looking for a more efficient speakers. Onkyo volume needs to be at 60 - 65 para enjoy sa movies.
3. Looking for more efficient speakers.
4. Nakahanap reason to buy new speakers ;D
Speaker Options:
Full PSB Option - (Estimate is 24K if go with in B&W in ceiling. No sub yet so price will go up)
a. PSB Image T5 - Front/Right - (Already have it. I used this sa main music room ko)
b. PSB Imagine XC - Need to purchase one
d. B&W in ceiling speakers
e. PSB Imagine XB for surround (Already have it gamit ko sa isang audio setup)
Downside of this one is I need to replace PSB Image T5 and PSB Imagine XB sa audio system ko. So mas mura nga pero in the end mas magastos because need new speakers for my Audio setup.
Whole new set - Paradigm option (Estimated cost is 56k for BS 67k if FS)
a. Paradigm Monitor 7 (FS) or Paradigm Mini Monitor 7 (BS)
b, Paradigm Center 1
c. Paradigm Surround 1
d. Paradigm Cinema Sub Gloss
e B&W CCM-362
Upside is I get to keep my speakers for Audio. Less gastos.

hi sir.
1. retain your PSB audio set-up -- it has been stable already. keep it that way until an itch comes up to replace it =))
2. since you're willing to invest, go with your Paradigm option
- additional investment is the B&W CCM in-ceiling speakers (or has they been already factored-in with your estimations) and the labor/materials cost to install them on your ceiling including new wirings and sockets, if you plan to put one
3. lastly, sell your Wharfedale Diamond 9 HCP
If I may also suggest, but doesn't intend to confuse you more, why not install 2 pairs of in-ceiling and scratch the Paradigm Surround 1 plan? This way, your audio presence are all in-tuned while all in-ceiling surrounds are also in-tuned and makes up for a neater set-up. Secondly, when you upgrade to 5.2.4 in the future, then just buy the AVR upgrade and go back adding the Surround 1 since the in-ceiling are already put up as early as now... =))
in case, can I audition the sub of your 9HCP? hehe

Hmmm that's an interesting thought. Right now my Onkyo is only capable of 5.1.2. What you're saying is that instead of rear surrounds gawin ko na lang rear height. Ang mangyayari is the 5.1.2 will look like this:

you will use the rear surrounds ceiling speakers connected at the surrounds port of your Onkyo. It's just that sound will emit from the rear top downward the listening position instead of rear or back of your ears.
but there are other ceiling speakers (I think Polk has this) that can be angled -- so you have the option to emit the sound direct downwards 90 degrees or angled at 60 degrees pointed at the listening position. the same way as your front heights (ATMOS) can be angled 60 degrees facing towards your listening position.

I haven't really looked into Polk Audio paired with Onkyo. Will it be cheaper than Paradigm (equivalent models). What usually are good Polk Audio speakers for HT?

sorry, sir.. so so sorry. there's none with Polk but appears there's one with Paradigm =)) and it's 30 degrees not 60, ooops!

Polk Audio RTi's are very good for HT duties.

Kung ako sir i will go with full rti
RTi A3 for Fronts, Rti A1 for surround and CSi A6 Center(this is a big center speaker)..
i compared them side by side and the RTI's has fuller sound against the TSI's

How much is the diff? I believe the RTI a3's is same price as the TSi300. The CSi A6 is same price din ng A3. The A1 is around 12 if i'm not mistaken. Sayang kasi, if you can save a little more, go with the higher model para wala na upgrade.
I have not heard the TSX model..

If I go with the bookshelf RTiA3, CSiA4, CSiA1, PSW110 - It will be around 52500 which is 3kplus higher
If I go with the RTiA3, CSiA6, CSiA1, PSW110 - It will be 58k which is 9k higher
Would prefer floor standers for my front R/L. I'm definitely considering that route din. Thanks for the input, when i audition i would know which ones to look for.
Also another issue for me is my ceiling is directly above sa roof ng house so very open space na siya. I'm not sure if i would need to build an enclosure para sa ceiling speakers pag ganito.
Di pala simple mag set-up ng Atmos.

a little less than 3m ceiling height. walang room directly sa taas sir. pero sure ako na may leak yung sound sa ibang rooms.
puede mo naman gawan na lang enclosure later kung accessible ceiling area mo.

uy interesting ito wala parin ako pang ATMOS speaker eh. ;)

4incher in-ceiling speakers will do. the Def Tech have these 4incher ones and are way better than Polks. but since TS likened those bigger fronts it'd be also good to consider 6.5incher in-ceilings.
additionally, in-ceilings are designed to withstand heat.. another way perhaps are placing insulators to protect them...

Went to listen up and auditioned T series, TSx series and RTi series. The RTi series was the best. Pero pricey. The T series manipis tunog. The TSx series for me hits the sweet spot of powerful and price so went home with it.
This is what I got:
TSx 330T for FR
TSx 110b for surrounds
TSX 250c for center
SC 60 for in ceiling
PSW 110 for sub
Tinigna ko svs. Sobrang laki wala na ako lugar for that. The 110 is ok naman.
Will just have provision for 5.1.4 para sa future upgrade since mag bububtas na lang din naman kami ng ceiling
Medyo mababa lang placement ng center ko di ko ma angle ang laki sobra. Sakto siya sa middle layer ng sigma rack ko. Mag pa customize na lang siguro ako TV rack para maganda placement ng center.

Will just try muna walang enclosure pag ok naman tunog yun na yun. Ayoko ng mas madami trabaho. Initially set na ako sa up firing speakers pero all those that i've talked to convince me to go in ceiling.

yung sa hifi show yung def tech na atmos speaker malupit din. sa movie set up yun ang nagustuhan ko dun. di na need ng ceiling speakers..

Finished installing the ceiling speakers. I went with the top middle configuration.
Worth it mag atmos. There's sound everywhere!
