pero this HiFi show daw nagturo si master nelson - dito ako nanghihinayang na di ako nakapunta this year kasi my sakit wife ko. absent kami.

Maganda po, very open. So far the best aaudio speakers I auditioned. I would sway away from compairing with other highend brands, its not fair, as were talking about different enviroment, equipment and sound preference. I would like to say sorry to Hansen for dragging Focals to the equation.
I stayed in the town hall for 2 days and Tony Go is a close friend and my co-admin. The community has high respect on his dedication and support to town hall participants. Yes, he bought the anthony speakers and supported anthony, but saying “nakipagagawan” is an overstatement.

I believe it is not a fair comparison with other brands, since the equipment and room used are different (and overall sonics of each speaker/brand are different and unique). Kanya kanyang tenga lang yan.
But nevertheless, it could hold on its own against established brands. FYI, the Anthony speakers were playing in one of the largest rooms (conference hall) in the hotel, and still it could perform well and was actually used as the reference speaker for the Amp Galing shootout. Papayag ba lahat ng famous pinoy amp builders involved dun kung pangit tumunog yung speakers? Just an afterthought.

yes, that amp was a 6550 pp amp used the mullard 5-20 topology.....
i have seen that amp in pictures even before it was displayed...
i was amazed at the pcb construction and the box enclosure would make you think it was an imported tube amp...
i can confirm that the construction was indeed top notch....
Ruel Felix has been making amps for as long as i can remember,
i was a judge at the malabon stereo contest a good 8 years ago...
together with Ronald de Jesus who also had an entry...
the local audio diy'ers are a close knit group and
we relate to one another, perhaps more than the end users realize....
we may not talk to one another that much but we can relate because we speak the same language...

in the final analysis, it is never the amp themselves but how it synergized with the rest of the system that mattered....
comparing locally made gears to branded and high end so called then is a useless thing......as there will always be buyers of so called high end gears, just as there will be buyers of low cost gears....
oftentimes i hear remarks like, "sir Tony, i was invited to listen to a setup costing millions of pesos, pero sa tenga ko hindi naman million ang tunog..."
so it is really up to how the system was set up....
in our room we aim for one thing, "close as possible to the real thing......"
and the good news is there is always something for everyone, rich or not so rich, after all the musical experience is a personal one...
and i leave you with what Nelson Pass used to say, "it is all illusions, everything is....."
so stop worrying how such and such compares to such and such....
stop listening to your gears and start listening to the music......

We were too busy exchanging ideas and tweaking the amps. I remember Ruel's amp squeaking due to a cathode bypass cap which we removed Saturday morning. Ronald and I were too busy bullying Ruel kasi he was so nervous with his amp. ;D ;D ;D
It was all fun and the Johnny Walker cocktails made the technical discussions funkier. ;D Now that is priceless. 8)

1. it is not the gears themselves as they are supposed to disappear with the music playing...
2. room treatment plays a big role..
3. tuning the system is much a science in itself...this year i got to appreciate the work of John Allegre, our sound engineer....
4. this year we proved that multi-amping is the way to go if you want a system with wide, linear bandwidth...
so in concluding, shoot outs will never reveal the true worth of any equipment unless you use it in tandem with other gears....
you do not listen to amplifiers nor speakers alone, you listen to the music,
and when your gears have disappeared with the music, then you know you are in music heaven.....
