Title: Wall Mounting on Drywall Question
Post by: the_w0rks on Aug 17, 2018 at 12:16 PM
*mods, sorry in advance if this is the wrong section to post this

I am considering wall mounting my 65" tv. Problem is that I only have drywall/wooden wall to use for mounting it. I already contacted LG for their wall mounting service but when I told them that my wall is drywall, they said that I needed a 3/4 plywood muna daw bago ako magpa-wall mount?

I asked if di ba pwede hanapin na lang nila yung stud without me doing anything extra and they said they require yung 3/4 plywood.

Thing is, I have zero idea what they meant by the 3/4 plywood. Looking for tips/advice sana of how I can go about this. What could they mean na i should get a 3/4 plywood?

Easily doable after you find the studs with a magnet

yun nga eh kasi sa mga nababasa ko online and sa videos, kelangan mahanap lang yung stud. but yung service provider na kinuha ng LG di daw nila magagawa without yung 3/4 plywood which di ko naman maintindihan kasi di din nila maexplain.

labo. libre lang kasi pa-install sa LG so medjo no choice.

That's what I do with my plasma before. Parang sandwich sya, whole 3/4" plywood stand vertically and then cut another 3/4" size of the whole bracket. Then screw the bracket. Saw this style from my father when he's installing a ceiling fan on wood ceiling with wood braces.

so what i'm supposed to do is attach a plywood  on my wall tapos on top of that, 1 more 3/4 the size of my bracket? tama ba intindi ko? sorry mahina ako sa carpentry kasi. haha

also, that would make the wall "thicker" due to the added layer dba which would kind of defeat the purpose of wallmounting para closer to the wall sana. :(

Bale cut ka lang ng same size ng bracket from a 3/4" inch plywood. Yes kakapal sya or magkakaroon ng space. I think ang theory noon is to have enough kapit sa screw aside from adding more lock washers.

1 piece of 3/4" plywood lang about 3/4 the height and width of your tv. This should be significantly larger than the wall bracket to allow a bigger area to screw onto drywall studs. Attach this to the area where you will put the tv. Screws should be 5"-6" apart along the studs.

thanks for the replies, sirs!

one last question, to attach the 3/4 plywood, this means I will have to nail it to my drywall right?  Sorry if idiotic question. I have zero carpentry skills. haha will have to look for a carpenter to do this for me but would like to have a general idea just in case. haha

Pwedeng sila na Sir, i-ready mo na lang yung cut na plywood. Yun yung ginawa ko, diretso screw ng wallmount to plywood to wall.

Dapat yun 3/4" plywood should be screwed sa studs or internal bracing to make it sturdy.

For some house, ang studs ay nasa mga 18" - 24" apart,
which make some wall mounting ideal (not all), newer houses are different...
like what happened to my house, when Best Buy was gonna wall mount my 75" sa bedroom,
we found out na magkalayo ang stud dito sa master's bedroom, kaya hindi ko magagamit ang wall mount
na nauna ko ng binili, the tech guy was suggesting installing a 2x4 at the back, meaning, yung muna ang ikakabit sa
magkalayong stud, it will work, but the fact na medyo pangit sa isipan ko, and magpipintura pa ako sa likod, I declined,
we ended up buying a new one, the higher model one na may malakaing adjuster sa pwedeng igalaw at umabot sa
studs. Using the plywood is basically the same thing, yun ang ikakabit muna sa stud, then sa plywood nila ilalagay ang wall mount.
Pictures via Google... Hope this helps,...

Attaching 3/4” plywood over drywall is the safest and easiest thing to do. Like what abc said, the studs may not be located exactly where wou want to install your tv.

By attaching a plywood over drywall screwed on stud, you’ll be getting a bigger space to actually locate you mounting bracket.
