Taika Waititi to Voice Bounty Hunter IG-88 in The Mandalorian

Back in December executive producer and writer Jon Favreau revealed that the The Empire Strikes Back‘s robot bounty hunter IG-88 would have a role to play in the upcoming Disney+ live-action series The Mandalorian. Now he’s revealed via Instagram that IG-88 will be voiced by none other than Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), one of the show’s directors who previously lent that unique New Zealander accent to the character Korg in his own film Thor: Ragnarok.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Pedro Pascal (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) will star as The Mandalorian and will be joined by the previously announced Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) and Nick Nolte (Affliction).

Jon Favreau penned the series, and the directors for the show that have been officially announced include Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) who will be directing the first episode. Additional episodes will be directed by Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). The Mandalorian will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. The live-action series will debut exclusively on Disney+.

Jon Favreau Currently Writing The Mandalorian Season 2 for Disney+

Jon Favreau stopped by Jimmy Kimmell Live and confirmed that he’s already working on writing The Mandalorian Season 2 for the upcoming streaming service Disney+. No official order for renewal has been given, but it’s no surprise that Disney is betting big on Star Wars for Disney+.

The showrunner shared a little bit about the Disney+ series, which takes place after Return of the Jedi, saying: “All hell is breaking loose in the outer rim, and it’s about the scum and villainy that now wants to take out the rule of law. What happens? Chaos takes over.”

Rosario Dawson Joins The Mandalorian Season 2 as Ahsoka Tano

Slash Film has brought word that the second season of Disney+’s acclaimed Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian is making a huge creative decision to cast Rosario Dawson to star as a live-action version of fan-favorite Rebels and Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano!

Tano made her first appearance in Star Wars lore in the 2008 Clone Wars film that led into the hit TV series, which was revived for its last season that is currently airing on Disney+, and has since spun off into other series such as Rebels as well as video games and comics. She was originally the padawan to Anakin Skywalker and was not well-received by fans of the franchise, but as her character grew and developed over the years, she quickly became one of the highest-regarded characters in the entire franchise.

The Mandalorian: Rosario Dawson Opens Up About Ahsoka Tano Rumors

Last month, it was reported that Rosario Dawson was cast as Ahsoka Tano in the highly-anticipated second season of The Mandalorian. Because of the casting news, Star Wars fans have rejoiced as Dawson had always been the most popular fan casting for Ahsoka Tano. However, in a recent interview with Variety, the Luke Cage alum has finally opened up about her reported involvement with Disney+’s acclaimed Star Wars spinoff, revealing that nothing has been really finalized yet.

“That’s not confirmed yet but when that happens, I will be very happy. I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point,” Dawson said. “[adding that it would be ] a million and one percent because of the fans.”

Even though she didn’t confirm nor denied the rumors, she went on to expressed her excitement and gratitude at the possibility of joining the long-running sci-fi franchise. “The two universes, Star Trek and Star Wars. I get in those two, I’m telling you, man, that’s it. I will just retire. And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office. That would be it.”

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian Announced by Disney+

In Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, Executive Producer Jon Favreau invites the cast and crew to share an unprecedented look at the making of the series which quickly became a pop culture phenomenon after premiering in November. Debuting on the day that a worldwide community of fans celebrate all-things-Star Wars — Monday, May 4 — Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an eight-episode documentary series that pulls back the curtain on The Mandalorian. Each chapter explores a different facet of the first live-action Star Wars television show through interviews, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by Jon Favreau.

“’Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian’ is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout Season 1,” said Favreau. “We had a great experience making the show and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.”

'The Mandalorian': Temuera Morrison Returns to 'Star Wars' Universe to Play Boba Fett

Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in 2002's Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, will appear in season two of the Disney+ Star Wars series.

Sources say Morrison will play Boba Fett, the famed bounty hunter who first appeared on the big screen in 1980's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and who seemingly died in 1983's Return of the Jedi as he fell into a sarlacc pit. Actor Jeremy Bulloch portrayed the character in the original trilogy.

Boba Fett is expected to play just a small role in season two of the series, after the character was teased in the season one episode "The Gunslinger," when a mysterious figure sporting the bounty hunter's trademark spurs approached the apparently lifeless body of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

The Mandalorian: How director's daughter shaped the show

The director of the Mandalorian says her daughter was a big influence on the making of the Star Wars spin-off.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Bryce Dallas Howard described how Beatrice, then five years old, became anxious during early screenings about the whereabouts of Baby Yoda.

It led to crucial changes to the show, which made it clear where the character was and who was looking after him.

That was an excellent season finale! Much better than Season 1 finale’s surprises. And yes, the end credits scene is a must-see. I also didn’t expect that.

I always enjoy seeing the concept art shown after each episode. Too bad they didn’t show any for the season finale.

One-year wait for Season 3 while Disney Plus shifts the fans’ attention to the Marvel TV shows...
