Yesterday, while window shopping for a replacement to my ageing LCD TV, i went hopping to different appliance stores in all malls in Fairview. My last stop was SM Appliances. While looking at the display of a Toshiba 55" UHD Smart TV, a sales rep of Skyworth approached me and offered a Skyworth 55G6 UHD smart TV for only Php 22,995. I asked the sales rep why it is priced so low, he said that it's actually a thanksgiving sale of Skyworth for its 30th year anniversary. Accordingly, it looks and has same specs of the Toshiba UHD TV i was looking at that time. At first, i didn't bite but take a look first in the internet, and these are what i found:

After reading the reviews, i went back to SM Appliance Store to buy one but the stocks were all gone in two hours. Fortunately, there will be 10 brandnew units arriving this week so i reserved one.

Palagay ko cash or CC straight purchase lang ito. If ever installment eh baka regular interest so more or less around 4K din siguro ang madagdag sa 12 month installment. I might be wrong though. Pero mura pa rin sa 27K payable in 12 months, just my opinion lang po. Makapunta rin nga sa SM Appliances mamaya.

nag improve na kaya pq niya? we have an old 32 inch skyworth and pq was not really at par with lg, samsung. although medyo mura naman talaga.

Here's my initial observation with my 55G6. The included manual out of the box is useless, no enough info on how to set the tv correctly. There's an on-screen/buil-in manual but just the same, not enough info. However, the menu is easy to navigate hence setting the TV is not a problem. After setting the date and time, the language, the audio, video (i initially set at sports), the hdmi, i logged in to google. Internet browsing is acceptable, medyo mabilis naman (dahil siguro naka converge ako). On Netflix, i tried HD program, the display is clear but i don't think it is upscaled enough to 4K level. However 4K program is great. I tried HDR program but unfortunately, it seems has no support for such, only sound is outputted but no video. As to the digital tuner, i think you need to have a very good antennae to get good program. The built-in sound bar is good (malakas naman at di tunog lata) but you need to have a subwoofer to mimic cinima listening. This is just my initial take, i will still have to calibrate the settings further.

Had a really bad problem with some backlight bleeding. It was so bad that it looked more like the flashlight effect than backlight bleeding.
I tried loosening the screws at the back of the tv, thinking that the panel could be being warped somehow. And it fixed it. Blacks are much more even now. It's not as good as a plasma, but I'm very satisfied with the results.

Di na ako nakatiis, picked a unit up from SM Appliance Megamall.
NBA has occasional stuttering, but acceptable. Similar performance with a Mi Box 3.
Kodi 17.6 ran a test movie from my NAS without issues.
Will test Chromecast feature this week.
Overall, I'm very happy with what I'm seeing, so far.

Random stuff about Android TV on the 55 G6
- As soon as you connect it to the internet, it will update to the latest version of Android TV (Android 8.0 Oreo)
- The wifi card on the TV is of the older variety (802.11g), you won't be able to do 4k properly on YouTube or Netflix with it, so it's best to get something like the Xiaomi Mi Box.
- Netflix network test on it at my house is about 10 Mbps. I get nearly 100 Mbps on my Mi Box.
- Netflix titles will show "HDR" and "Ultra HD 4K" but it will probably run in 1080p only.
- The native YouTube app will run 1440p seamlessly (QHD). In fact, QHD looks good on it.
- VLC is a better media player than the built-in one and supports .ts files no problem (Kodi seems to balk at running .mts and .ts files for some strange reason).
- Use the Android remote for Android TV as it is far superior to the tv remote.
- The USB port on the TV is USB 3.0 but you will need to run the files using the media player that came with it. I suggest using VLC instead.
- You will need a bluetooth controller to play games on the tv.
- The TV has about 12 GB of usable space so choose wisely on which games to install!
- Chromecast works as advertised
- Google Assistant is amazing!

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here.
Anyway, I've bought one for myself a week ago after seeing someone demoing the unit while I was window shopping 2 weeks ago. The unit I got was the demo unit in SM since that was the only stock they got when I was there. So far I am contented with everything except for one thing, the Wi-Fi connection. It seems at some times, the unit isn't able to scan our Wi-Fi connection even if it is already registered in the TV. I have to restart our router everytime this issue happens. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Or is this just normal? I need to know so I can have my unit replaced if this is a defect. TIA!

There are many reasons for intermittent wifi connections (literally dozens of possible issues). I suggest you go to google and search out a good article on checking your wifi connection.

I've been using Vivid as the base setting then playing around with the individual components (brightness, saturation, etc). I find the other pre-defined settings (Cinema, in particular) too dark for the living room (where the tv is at). When viewing HDR content, I typically find the need to put the tv on high brightness mode.

when playing movies on a USB, how do you keep the movie's aspect ratio? there's only Auto, Normal, Scan and Dot by Dot. the last one keeps the aspect ratio but is too small and i can't zoom it in.
watching anything that's stretched out (i.e. not its normal aspect ratio) is a big downer for me. ;( :(

You will need to go to the playstore (it's one of the apps on the home screen). If your tv is up to date (it says Android 8 in the settings area) you'll have access to all the Android TV apps.
Just be wary of downloading games as it eats up lots of space.

Unfortunately, the tv itself doesn't have enough processing power to do it so you will need a media player capable of HDR10 output. My good old MiBox couldn't do it but I'm happy to note that my Xbox One S can.
Will be trying it on my htpc next as soon as I find the time to do it.

Boght one of this at sm appliance MOA, the first unit had a problem on the first 10 days of its use, out of the box android 8.0 sya maayos lahat watch 4k on youtube picture quality was superb for its price, after 10 days of use nagkaproblema sa kulay ng balat ng tao parang di nya ma produce ung collor brown red ish ang balat ng mga tao tapos mejo makitab ang ang ibang kulay, pag nanonood nga ako ng nba yung yellow jersey ng warriors parang neon sa kintab, nireplace naman after ma servicesan d2 sa bahay, problema ko ung replacement unit is android 6.01 tried updating it pero latest os na daw ako, alam ko di un ang latest dahil 8.0 ako sa lumang unit, tapos pag inupdate ko ung youtube app di ako makanood ng 4k, walang 4k sa options upto 1080p lang, kaka replace lang pla ng unit ko January 12, anyone having same isue sa youtube? Tska sa update?

tried the toshiba skyworth u9700 65 inch android tv. nakasale kasi 53t.
ayaw nya basahin yung hard drive ko na 3tb. yung lg at yung tcl na mas mura nababasa at nakaka play...... tcl65p6us 42t at lg 65 uk6500 52t.

The box on the 55G6 doesn't show HDR either. I only discovered it had HDR when I connected it to my XBox One S and did the calibrations. It showed 10-bit and 60Hz support in addition to HDR10.
The next thing I did was pop in some HDR titles (some test files then Mad Max and Blade Runner) and it did display in HDR.
Sometimes it's hard to notice if you're already on 4k (as opposed to FullHD or 1440p or an upscaled image) but with HDR, you can immediately tell that it's HDR. The colors really pop out.

Thanks sir, i am actually thinking of getting this one over the Hisense 55A6100 (with local dimming) because it has LG LED/LCD IPS panel over that of VA panel of hisense, as replacement for my Samsung plasma.
Is the upscaling feature of this 55G6 model good? I have tons of 1080p mkvs that i want to keep. Thank you

1080p looks fine on the tv. The biggest advantage of the G6 over the Hisense is Android TV and the number of apps available. I doubt the proprietary OS on the Hisense will ever get any sort of updates for its apps and OS after 18 months.
If your budget is 30k, I would suggest including the Samsung 55NU7100 on your list as it can be bought as cheap as 33k these days.

I do not like Samsung anymore as my experience (and my friends as well after i posted on fb that my Sammy plasma kicked the bucket) are not so good with Samsung. My 37" LG which was used more often is at it's 9th or 10th year now and still fine.
Second is, Samsung's nearest service to my house is Henry's Electronics in Valenzuela which is about 35kms away. Had to sehll out additional 700 pesos as transportation fee to have my unit checked.
Skyworth, Lg and Hisense on the other hand have service center that i pass by everyday going to work here in Bulacan.
I just hope there are still available units this weekend

:'( :'( :'( While watching movie last night, a fine horizontal line appeared in the middle of the screen. Searched the net and found that common problem is a faulty ribbon cable. This ribbon cable that leads from the LCD to the main video board, for whatever reason usually unseated some of its contacts. Accordingly, reseating the cable will do the trick. Gusto ko na sanang buksan but since the TV still has warranty up to the end of November 2020, i decided to request for service from Skyworth. Unfortunately, home service (or any service) is not available for now because of ECQ kaya tiis tiis muna na may guhit ang TV. :'( :'(

But how does it get unseated? Im pretty sure the TV very rarely will get bumped hard enough to cause that. And it is always on a stable platform. Heat perhaps?

I think corrosion is the culprit. Actually there is another cause mentioned which is defective video board. Kaya lang if board ang problema, usually mas malaking portion ng screen ang affected. Anyway sakop naman ng two year warranty ang led screen, ang video at power boards. Wait ko na lang si skyworth service.

Finally a technician from Skyworth's partner service center visited my TV. Binuksan lang yung TV kinunan ng picture yung screen at yung mga piesa sa likod kung hindi nagalaw to validate warranty. Sabi i-declare daw na palit ng lcd panel. After 25 days daw at di dumating yung parts, they will recommend unit replacement. Ganon daw ang ginagawa ng Skyworth ngayon dahil sa pandemic, hindi sure kung makaka-source agad ng parts. He he he sana wala ng makuhang lcd panel para brand new model kapalit.

I'm so happy today ;D Skyworth Philippines just called informing me that my replacement unit Skyworth 55ub7500 will be delivered in two weeks. Hindi na daw available yung 55G6 kaya bagong model na lang kapalit. ;D Sa excitement ko, i forgot to ask if another two year warranty ba yung new unit.
Update: I received the replacement unit for my Skyworth 55G6, a brandnew Skyworth 55UB7500. It's already Android 9, almost same specs of 55G6 except it has now better 4K IPS panel. And the remote control already has microphone for voice control of the TV. And medyo sabit lang ay there are slight back light bleeding pero okay na rin at least brandnew na ulit ang TV ko. ;D

2 years and 5 months na pala ang Skyworth TV ko.
pag bukas ko kagabi nagsafe mode. I rebooted and naginitialize sya. pag check ko Android 8.0 ang fw. sa pagkakatanda ko android 7.0 lang yata ito nang makuha ko (not sure). possibly nagupdate? or baka may 'variant' third party app na ininstall ko nagloko ;D
anyway back to normal naman. sulit ang speedboost ni pldt ngayon as youtube in 4k is amazing :)
