Post by: jas on Jul 11, 2019 at 07:37 AM: ‘John Wick’ Creator Derek Kolstad Boards Marvel’s ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Limited Series

“John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad has joined the writing team on the “Falcon & Winter Soldier” limited series for Marvel Studios, an individual with knowledge of the project exclusively tells TheWrap.

The series stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprising their big-screen roles as Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, respectively. The upcoming series will likely focus on Sam Wilson aka Falcon taking on the mantle of Captain America; at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” an elder Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) hands Wilson his shield. Kari Skogland will direct the six-part miniseries, which is eyeing an August 2020 debut. Emily VanCamp and Daniel Bruhl are in talks reprise their roles as Sharon Carter and Helmut Zemo, receptively, on “Falcon & Winter Soldier.”

Along with “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios is developing “WandaVision” (with Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen), “Loki” and an untitled series staring Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye/Ronin. Marvel Studios’ head Kevin Feige has teased that the Disney+ series will be a major factor in the ongoing narrative of the MCU.

“These will be major storylines, set within the MCU, with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we’re producing and our features on the big screen,” Feige said at an investor event in April that unveiled Disney+. “A post-‘Endgame’ MCU will be extremely different and extremely focused on Disney+ tying into our future movies.”

Disney+, the company’s upcoming streaming service, will launch on Nov. 12.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier pairs up two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular heroes—Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier—in a series of action-filled adventures as they fight together against evil after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) will star alongside Daniel Brühl who will return as the villain, Baron Zemo. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set to debut on Disney+ in the fall of 2020.

After the government of Prague closed schools and placed other restrictions on event and travel, the Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier from Marvel has shut down production there because of concerns over the virus, whose global spread has the entire world on alert.

The show has been shooting for months in Atlanta, but they began a short shoot in Prague last Friday that was to be completed in about a week. Today, the studio shut down the production and called everybody home to Atlanta. No word at the moment whether the show will return to Prague, but it seems unlikely.

Disney+’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Release Delayed

Though it was originally set to premiere on Disney+ next month, fans are going to have to hold out their expectations a bit longer as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will no longer debut on the streaming platform in August.

After having to shut down production in March due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it appears the Marvel Studios series is not quite ready to take flight yet as several weeks of filming are still needed to complete the six-episode miniseries.

Up-and-comer Danny Ramirez is suiting up for The Falcon & the Winter Soldier.

The On My Block actor is joining the cast of the Marvel series, which stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan and picks up after the events of 2019's Avengers: Endgame, which saw Chris Evans' Captain America pass his shield to Sam Wilson (Mackie). While it is being kept under wraps who Ramirez will play, Heat Vision is told it will be a pivotal role.

With the premiere of Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney Plus Friday, Winter Soldier co-creator Ed Brubaker admitted in a newsletter to his uneasiness over his role as the mind behind one of the show’s main characters.

“Everyone at Marvel Studios that I’ve ever met (all the way up to Kevin Feige) have been nothing but kind to me… but at the same time, for the most part all Steve Epting and I have gotten for creating the Winter Soldier and his storyline is a ‘thanks’ here or there, and over the years that’s become harder and harder to live with,” he explained in his newsletter.

Brubaker and Epting’s Winter Soldier first debuted in the “Captain America #1″ comic in 2004. In the new series, Anthony Mackie plays Falcon and Sebastian Stan assumes the role of Winter Soldier/ Bucky Barnes. Brubaker praised the two actors and the kindness of everyone he has met at Marvel Studios, acknowledging the upside of his writing career.

“So yeah, mixed feelings, and maybe it’ll always be like that (but I sure hope not). Work-for-hire work is what it is, and I’m honestly thrilled to have co-created something that’s become such a big part of pop culture,” he wrote.

Still, he asserted that gratitude may not be enough.

“I have a great life as a writer and much of it is because of Cap and the Winter Soldier bringing so many readers to my other work,” Brubaker wrote. “But I also can’t deny feeling a bit sick to my stomach sometimes when my inbox fills up with people wanting comments on the show.”

Same here, there was a tremendous creativity for WandaVision while Falcon & Winter Soldier is any typical Marvel action flick. Dont know what the Loki series would bring.

This was a pretty good action-packed episode. The overall plot has picked up some momentum.

Apparently this villainous character was supposed to debut with Black Widow, but because of that film's release date delay caused by the Covid pandemic, the first appearance occurred here as a cameo. Seems Marvel Studios has big plans for this character going forwards.

Yes, the finale was a bit underwhelming and predictable. But on the whole, the series was entertaining. Wyatt Russell did a great job as John Walker.
