Title: Bang-for-Buck Battle: Which 4k TV under ₱39k is the best?
Post by: Verbl Kint on Dec 13, 2019 at 12:00 PM
We now have 65-inch tv's from low- to mid-range brands available under ₱39k that are actually pretty darn good.

The more established brands from Korea and Japan are jumping on the bandwagon and offering their 55-inch and 60-inch tv's at under ₱39k.

This thread is to give the average PDVD shopper the best possible choice for their ₱30-₱39k budget.

I'll start by posting the deals that have already been posted at the flat panels forum:

65
• TCL 65 A8US/P8US (₱35k cash at Abenson, SRP is ₱37,990)
• Skyworth 65 UB7550 (₱33k cash at Anson's, SRP is ₱35,990)
• Coocaa 65 S6G (₱30,490 Lazada 12.12 price, SRP was ₱34,990)

60
• Sharp LC-60 UA6500X (SRP is ₱34,990 at Abenson)

55
•  Sony 55 X7007 (SRP is ₱34,999 at Anson's, carousell price is ₱29,900)
•  Samsung 55 RU7100 (SRP is ₱36,990 at Anson's, carousell price is ₱31,900)

I just impulse-bought a 65" TCL A8US from Abenson, who offered me a ₱35k price (SRP was ₱37,990).

This tv has been a revelation. The color rendition AND accuracy is better than my old plasma, with the older panel having the advantage in deep blacks.  Still, I was amazed by how the blacks look for a 65" 4K TV at this price.  Using Spears and Munsil, I was able to see every gradient on the brightness scales without compromising color or increasing default backlight levels, and this was on the default SMART AI setting too.

It also has a fast processor, much better than the 55" Skyworth I bought last year, with absolutely no stuttering on 4k 60fps HDR content from YouTube.  Netflix HDR was also not a problem, which was inconsistent on the cheaper Skyworth.  I am also pleased with the remotes, which did not have the cheap and inconsistent tactile feel of the Skyworth.

I would say this TCL is probably a better choice than even Samsung or LG at this price range.  You can get a bigger panel with better PQ (local dimming) and Android TV, to boot.

i wish i can impulse buy something worth 35K too. lol!!!

thank you bro for the update. i am actually looking to upgrade again (if my months old 50 inch TCL will be taken).

This made me rethink getting a TCL again as i was not happy with the model i got which i couldn't remember what right now.

How's the built in Android TV by the way?

This TV's built-in Android TV is smoother than the MiBox I bought in 2017, probably because it has more RAM, not to mention a better processor and GPU.

Actually, before I bought it, I spent nearly an hour at the store looking through tech specs (the A8US is known as P8M in other markets) and all that, like a typical pdvd nerd.  What got my attention was the 3-core GPU, micro-dimming, 300 nits brightness rating, and 5000:1 contrast ratio; all using a Samsung panel.

And then another hour was spent auditioning (along with the Sony X7007, Sammy RU7100, Sharp LC60. and the Skyworth, using my phone, a data cable, and the salesguy's USB dongle).

I saw some concerns and complaints regarding TCL TV's here and in tipidpc, however, these were mostly for the 2018 models and some 2019 ones.  There was actually very little feedback to be found for this particular model.

@Verbl

Which offers the best features, the A8 or the P8? And from which Abenson branch did you buy yours?

What's the difference between P8US and P8SUS? There's a big price difference between the 2 models.

The A8US is the same as the P8M. Bought mine at Abenson Waltermart Munoz.

The P8S is a higher model than the A8US/P8M. It has HDR10+ (the lower P8M has only HDR10) and Wide Color Gamut.

It's essentially the same panel apart from the above. It even has the same contrast ratio and brightness rating. Proc and GPU are the same as well.

Price difference is currently more than ₱12k.

Hi kint. I understand that you came from a plasma and know the traits it has with dark scenes, does the tcl exhibit uneven bright spots or ghosting in very dark scenes? This is what bothers me with my samsung va panel.

I can safely say that there is minimal ghosting when using either Movie or Smart HDR Modes.  The plasma still has the edge on the deepest blacks, for sure, but blacks have not been a problem at all for my TCL A8.  I've used the light bleeding test on YouTube and the LG OLED HDR 4k 60fps demo video (links below).

Light bleed test: https://youtu.be/tPdLZ9g0l28
LG Demo:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eT9PEHayVk

Backlight bleeding has not been a problem as well, unlike on my LG LED and the Skyworth I bought last year.

Great info shared, kint. Another thing i dont like about led and va's is the very poor viewing angle. Lying down on the floor while watching a movie with the best pic quality is no longer an option. Lol. I'll definitely check out this model as per your review. Thank you.

•  LG 55 UM7500 (SRP is ₱37,990, carousell price is ₱34,500)

Very timely post. Will be buying my parents TV in the province so it's Samsung, LG, or Sony for them for the servicing.

55
•  Sony 55 X7007 (SRP is ₱34,999 at Anson's, carousell price is ₱29,900)
•  Samsung 55 RU7100 (SRP is ₱36,990 at Anson's, carousell price is ₱31,900)
•  LG 55 UM7500 (SRP is ₱37,990, carousell price is ₱34,500)

The LG UM7500 can now be bought for ₱29,500 on Carousell.

Meanwhile, the TCL 55 P8S is available for ₱29,900 as well (was as low as ₱29k during the holidays).

Of the 4 TV's listed in the 55" section, the TCL and Sony have the best PQ. Both have Wide Color Gamut (branded Triluminos in the Sony) and frame dimming (called micro dimming in the TCL).

The TCL's advantage is the extra voice remote, a more recent version of Android TV, and a better color calibration out of the box (the Sony comes out saturated at the onset and needs to be adjusted).

The Sony looks more premium and feels more premium with a better looking build quality.

If your budget is capped at ₱30k, I think the best 4k TV overall for that money would have to be the Sony 55 X7007g.

Bought the 65A8US last night @ 35K. Hirap i-transport pala pag ganitong kalaki. Buti nagkasya sa Adventure.

Definitely requires a lot of coordination when mounting. Hehe

From 50 to 65, it is solid at 8 feet viewing distance!

Sideloaded same apps i have sa Mi Box S and it looks like i won't be needing the extra device anymore.

I'll see if i can get the PadTV to work. If it does, a few months old Mi Box S will be on sale.

Does anybody know yung 12-month installment card price for the TCL 50P8M/A8 or the 50P8SUS? I'm also contemplating just waiting for the 2020 models to see if they have HDMI 2.1 and VRR (variable refresh rate. Will be useful for game consoles and PC gaming if you can't maintain 60fps).

For that price, you can already buy the top branded TV’s- Sony, Samsung and LG. These offer durability and good after-sales service (you mentioned “bukid”, so the use conditions might be harder and access to service centers could be more difficult, so it’s best to stick with proven brands). You also mentioned TV Plus, so HD will do just fine, no need for 4K/UHD TV’s, plus they are more energy efficient, will cost less in electricity bill. Add a bit more and you’ll be able to buy the larger screens in 4k:UHD TV’s.

my cousin's 32” LG UHD Smart TV dont know the model has horizontal lines on the bottom flashing after 4yrs, sakit ata ng LG panel yung ganyan. Panny 49FX600 naman ng sister ko has been replaced by anson with same model din after 10mos. kc nagkaroon naman ng 3" vertical black band, panel issue din. with TCL I'm not sure din kung may mga issue ba sa panels nila, minsan kc may drawback din pag sobra mura, looking for tv din ako pero sa nababalitaan ko with new tv's nowadays lahat halos may issue, depende na lang talaga sa aftersales service at warranty ng brand.

^LG and Panasonic as you mentioned developed issues too so may drawback regardless kung mahal o mura.

I got 2 TCL's currently, 1 50in going 1 year next week and a 3-4 months old 65in as well. so far both are doing well naman and are heavily in use at least 9 hours a day.

i called western appliance head office yesterday since they provided info via viber groups that they are open but only for pick ups of the order.

they have the the tcl 50p8SUS for Ph25,000 cash

is the additional Ph5k worth the WCG feature over the 50p8?
is the color difference really that significant?
are there any other additional features in the p8S?

Agree.

My 49" samsung panel conked out just 26 mos, sayang lakpas sa 2 yr warranty.  We replaced the panel which had only 2 mos warranty and unfortunately nearing 4th mo, a single horizontal line now appears.  Naabutan lang lockdown kaya di mapuntahan ng technician.

Seems paying for 5 yrd warranty is alright when it comes to big screen tvs regardless of brand.

abensons on-line currently has the prices for TCL as follows:

50A8US - Ph20,998

55A8US - Ph19,995

supposedly na ka sale until Apr30.
correct yan, mas mura ang 55in, i called them to reconfirm before placing my order.
they are also making deliveries to limited locations for metro manila.

decided on getting A8US instead of the P8S since the WCG feature will only show if the source is also WCG per cnet:

My LG OLED TV conked out before ECQ. I bought it for 95k 3 years ago. Gott quoted 110k to replace the display panel which doesnt make sense since current price for similar size LG OLED now is still around 95k.

Mejo nadala na. I'm considering TCL, Hisense, or Devant na lang. Which brand would you recommend for 55" UHD TV?

Kainis, I can't find any reviews for TCL 55 A8US. Interested pa naman since it's Android TV.

Speaking of Android TV, mejo OT, can I make it work like EVPad? I mean install streaming apps for Live TV and movies? If so, what applications are out there?

Thanks.

saw a8us sa abenson. its dim and has a very dull color kahit nala STORE mode. only worth getting from tcl if picture quality is ur priority is the C-series. ung ibang model kupas ang kulay.

yung devant hv03 quantum di ko pa nakita in person pero sa price bracket sya lang ata ang nagooffer ng quantum dots. kso d nga lang android TV.

Finally found an Abenson branch with TCL 55 A8US on stock.

Coming from an OLED TV, I can say that TCL is not that bad. PQ on the store display is not that good as compared to other brands, in fact even TCL C8 has way better PQ than the A8US.

But it's different story when I started using it. I'm satisfied with it considering its price. Done na muna with expensive TVs.

Wala pala stremio sa Google Playstore sa Android TV. Had to sideload Aptoide TV and downloaded stremio from there.

Now let's see how long this TV would last. Good to know din na it has 2 years warranty.

"It is believed that the penetration rate of quantum dot products will increase as the technology is transplanted from the high-end X series products to the C series products for the first time."

sorry for the late reply. seems you already made a decision :) hope you are enjoying it.

honestly i'm not in the position to provide a review as my use is only limited to basic hd cable and netflix viewing with my connection at 5mpbs only :(  sometimes i use my son's ps3 to play some bd titles but that's it. if i had the time i could manage what you guys are doing like side loading updates, apps and run diagnostics but i don't.

i relied a lot on the the inputs from the other members here:

https://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,209991.210.html

obviously you will always have the lovers and haters of any particular brand. i made some other research as well.
so now i know there seems to be a trend with lg's panels going bust early (2-3yrs). with panels being manufactured by shared factories (OEMs) then it doesn't make sense to me to be tracking from which factory the panel is coming from to decide what to buy, its just too much hassle.

branded or china-made, if the odds are that something may go wrong after 2 yrs then i might as well gamble with something cheaper (with 2yr warranty also hehehe). of course the specifications will still be a major consideration.

for the lower brightness, i believe this is inherent to the panel type. i already knew about this VA vs IPS comparison. the brightness of my lg uh6500 hurt my eyes on dynamic setting which wifey prefers. so i usually use the movie setting on the both uh6500 and a8us also. i only go dynamic setting during noon time viewing. bear in mind my set is less about 1m away from the window so ambient lighting can get very bright during daytime.

for the PQ itself i find it quite good. however i still notice some judder but i'm not sure if this is because of the source (ps3), the hdmi cable or the set's 60hz refresh rate itself. i remember the uh6500 seemed to have a more fluid images but i could be wrong since it's 60hz also. i wish i had the time to really do the tests but i just have to accept that i pulled the trigger on this :)

lastly it seems the 55a8us is still on sale at abensons on-line @ ph19,998 (to be sure i'm not OT)

Was happy with the PQ and built in speakers coming from my 2015 dumb LG 4K TV. Until I noticed that it cannot decode DTS Audio! What a bummer!!!  >:( >:( >:( :'(

New TCL models are out (listed prices are from Abenson website):

• QLED 55C715US - ₱31,998
• 55P717 - ₱21,990

The C715US is quite interesting as it already has Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and proprietary calibration software called IPQ Engine.  And all this is running on Android Pie (9.0) through a quad-core processor and a tri-core GPU.  For tv's in this price range, this one has the best proc+GPU combo.  So far, this is also the only tv in the PH under ₱35k which has Dolby Vision support.  This also undercuts current Samsung QLED prices by a wide margin.

Meanwhile, it seems the new TCL 65" models are still forthcoming in the PH.

Probably the reason why the price difference from 55" to 65" models is nearly the price of the 50" version.  8)

Actually i'm not sure if this is the first time that TCL produced QLED's. Durability is the issue that i'm worried about even if it has a 2 year warranty. We previously had a TCL during the 1080p era and it only lasted 1,5 years before it conked out.  It was fixed and soon after the warranty expired the panel got busted.

Are the new 4k skyworths worth the shot nowadays? Any good deals?

In the market now for a new 55". Netflix certified ready is a must.

bought a Skyworth UB50550 Model last July. Price just under 20k. Instead of risking a non tested Cocoa (which is also Skyworth)

4K is nice. It has built in 5.1 Surround sound, it could be better but it works for me and my family.

It is a Smart/Internet TV. I would have wanted though to have an Android TV as no apps could be installed there is pre built Browser, Youtube, Prime Video and Netflix (that often exits out).

Contemplating now that I could have invested on an Android TV but now just looking at 4k media players (Roku or Xiaomi)

The Xiaomi 65" Mi LED TV (L65M5-5ASP) is currently at about ₱39k right now online.  It's also known as the Mi TV 4S.

It's a 2020 model sporting a Cortex-A55 quad core proc, Mali 470 gpu, and 2 GB of RAM. Supports HDR10+, and comes with Android TV (this one's supposedly upgradable to Google TV when it comes out) + voice commands.  It's an IPS panel.

The bonus for Xiaomi fans is that this can also supposedly work as a Smart Hub for your Xiaomi Home equipment and toys.

brightness around 220nits sa 55" not sure sa 75"

We bought in to the hype last year with the newer cheap LED's using "popular" panels. Lemme tell you, I regretted buying it blindly based on reviews here. My 3 year old top tier branded but entry level led still had better image quality than this 2020 "reinvented" brand.
There's usually a reason why it will cost lower, mediocre image processing chip, poorer construction, limited inputs, laggy software (even with latest android tv). A Xiaomi tv box is 3x faster than the built in software of the TV we bought. I heard a similar comment from another user here of this depressing lag.
20K+ is still 20K+. So always base your purchase by seeing it yourself and doing side by sides. Try out the UI, check the video settings that you can tweak, lower the brightness or backlight to see if the picture quality is still good.
If a Samsung, LG or a Sony is more expensive by only a small amount, audition to see if the price difference can really justify the savings you seek. Otherwise you may end up like me, unsatisfied and regretful.

kaya siguro always better to bring a usb with a familiar video to test sa shop, to compare if the upgrade will indeed be an upgrade.. a friend of mine bought a chinese ata o filipino brand pero pag uwi di nya din nagustuhan yung quality. i calibrated n lang the white balance and contrast level to match her old sony ones. cheap brand are known to be very aggressive sa contrast and sharpness presets nila.

Very true. Specially for workhorse appliances that you will use again and again (TV, AC, Ref, Washing Machine etc).  Make a mistake in purchase and it will remind you of your mistake again and again....

YMMV.

Case in point: everyone on PDVD that got burned by the Samsung plasmas.

Rumor has it the local Samsung office decided to shift to 1yr warranties because of this. Smart play, but I certainly won't be buying a Samsung TV anytime soon. ;)

Mura yan at maganda panel (kailangan lang calibration kasi yung galing sa factory di maganda settings).

Kung di ka naghahanap ng Dolby Vision ok tong TV. The one I checked had really good blacks and nice contrast, colors (after calibration) were really good. One con though is that this can do HDR10 only.

Hi bro, i have this sony 65x7500h. Ok siya, bought it 1 or 2 years ago. Im very happy with it. I moved it to my living room because bumigay na yun samsung 55 inch led ko. I mean it still works pero i just replaced it hehe..

If you can get the higher model with the trilumminous colour feature mas ok. I think itscthe 8500 series. Maybe its only a couple thousand pesos difference.

Also for me ok ang sony, before they are too expensive, but now affordable. My first choice from now is always sony, if kaya ko hehe..

Good luck

Bought the 65A8US last night @ 35K. Hirap i-transport pala pag ganitong kalaki. Buti nagkasya sa Adventure.

Definitely requires a lot of coordination when mounting. Hehe

TV conked out. No power at all. Bad trip. Malas ata ako sa appliances lately. 😢

Anyone with recent warranty claim experience with them?

Already submitted a Service Request online then SMS'd all three mobile numbers indicated, Sent them an email and a message over Facebook Messenger. siguro naman mapapansin na nila agad. hehe

Sabay tayo halos bumili. Buti ok pa naman sa akin kahit na constant yung use namin. At least 8hrs yata araw araw.

Pwede rin yang current fluctuations kung ganyan na may mga ibang nasisira na appliances.

No power is usually better than when it turns on then back off or seeing lines on the screen. Good luck getting that warranty claim.

My bedroom Samsung had that little pop before & turns out power supply. I had it fixed for like P5,000+ for a new PSU & so far almost 5 yrs na siguro & the TV is still working fine. Not to mention this tv must be already 12yrs already in total. If mai warranty pa just have them replace the damage part sayang naman 1yr palang yung unit.

Thanks everyone. Hoping that it is just the power supply at hindi matagalan ayusin.

May dalawang malapit na service center (Love Electronics) din sila sa akin but I'd prefer sa bahay gawin. Baka kung ano pa mangyari o masira pa pag iniwan eh.

Check while they do the repair and baka fuse lang yan since bago bago pa to avoid getting ripped off. Yup baka nga magasgas kung maiwan sa repair shop.

Sad life. kinuha ko muna yung 40 inch sa kabilang bahay. buti naalala ko. wala kasi nakatira dun.

So a workday passed and no update at all from TCL. Despite having a ticket opened, Email sent, Messenger message sent, SMS sent to all 3 listed numbers.

I will make a follow up at 9AM tomorrow and call them as well.  :P

Called TCL. wala pa din nag pick up dun sa service request kasi kanina lang din in-assign sa service center nung rep na kausap ko.

5-7 days daw and the service center will contact me directly daw pag may schedule na for home visit. mag prepare na lang daw ng 2 copies nung resibo.

sana nga. actually mapalitan lang ng bago ang dapat palitan ok na ako. at magawa at the soonest time.

baka mamaya walang parts tapos pag aantayin ako. i'll demand a replacement na lang kahit mag add na lang ako. mahirap walang TV nowadays. mababaliw yung anak ko  ;D

nate-tempt na nga ako buksan at tignan eh. baka simpleng fuse lang need palitan or yung mismong power supply board. mukha naman very straight forward ang pag palit.

yes do not open it. too new.

And it's fixed! Power supply board was replaced. Pumutok nga. Was unable to take a picture na.

Plug and play lang. Took less than 30 mins.

Happy!

Sabi nung tech alisin sa saksak pag di ginagamit.

yeah, that's what i plan to do. turn off the power strip na lang.

natuwa naman ako na kahit mahina sila sa reponse eh may action naman pala. at very proactive din na mag dala na ng parts based sa problem reported.

at least isang puntahan na lang sila.

off na lang power strip or avr kasi naka stand by pag diretso sa outlet so may kuryente pa rin.
