Parang Krell lost its Mojo when its chief designer Dan D'Agostino left the company.

dami ngayun hinahanap yang KSA 100 at KSA 50 na Krell.. pure class a.. sooo juicy..! ^-^
build like a tank..
-
I would be wary buying any used Class A amp, specially if it is more than 10 years old, heat generated by these tends to shorten the life of the capacitors within the amp.

based from my experience pag nabuksan at napalitan na innards ng amp ng isang third party repair shop di na kayang ibalik sa dating spec or performance. Sakit ng Krell yan and Mark Levinson. You have to get it done by them and not by anybody else. Nagkalat ang Krell dati kila JR. Di na magawa kasi wala nang parts even from the manufacturer. Usual na response from them would be for you to trade up your unit for a rebate instead. When that happens hahanap ka na ng third party repair shop. a lot of these high end manufacturers delete the values of the caps, resistors etc. Minsan they paint the board pa to hide the values (Luxman is a prime example). That forces the consumer to get it repaired by the manufacturer however mas malaki kita ng manufacturer if the consumer just trades up and buys a new unit rather than repair. OE Parts are produced only for 5 to 8 years after product is released to the market. After that hinahayaan na maubos yung stock. Levinson and Krell has a 5 year limited warranty. Bryston leads the parade with its 20 year warranty. To avail of the warranty the unit must be purchase through their authorized dealers. Any gray market unit will not be entertained.

usually KRELL / LEVINSON would last a lifetime, I have my KRELL DAC still alive after all these years since 1992 when I was in College. There was a period of time I never unplugged it so basically it was Power-On all the time coz it didnt have a Power Switch, not to mention being hit by Brown-Outs, Sudden Low Voltage drops, A 10second power outage w/c brings the current roaring back to life to more than 260v. with all of these then w/out the use of AVRs or Line Conditioner & its still alive & well up to now.
But I had friends who had those KSA models that really died down too, the KRCs, FPBs, KPS models I think were much the durable ones. I have a KAV-250cd still on my shelf as a back up player for my older player but this was not tough enough to the test of time (not more than 2yrs) as gradually it started not to read CDs properly until it could not read anything anymore ;D , The older player is still in tip tough shape for more than 23yrs.

That's great service life already if any component lasts 2 decades of use without any need for servicing. Sa experience ko din any component that has a mechanical device (a cd player for example) or manages to heat up when used (power amp, plate amp) ang prone sa service need. We just have to ensure that the dealer where we got those units are there to support us in those times even if the unit is out of warranty already.

Hector parang wala dito yata ganun dito sa atin kapag speaking of matagalan (in terms of service) ng certain equipment like 3yrs or so after. They always say they'll service it but your gears are just set aside in the corner then they would pronounced that it could not be service anymore coz "Parts Are Out" or it takes time to arrive w/ super duper charges if they have to order it, just trade it in and get a rebate for a new one ;D
Expensive equipment should have a lifetime warranty for me lang so they could bring trust & loyalty from consumers. Like super expensive watches in a year or 2 the movement is late or needs a spring replacement & they charge you very huge 5 figures sum for the parts & labor service. You bought it at very expensive price already it should bring joy & satisfaction from buyers not making money more out of them ;D

kay sir jr. of LIS ko din nabili int. amp ko, so far ayos pa nman sakin at bihira ko lng magamit, as i remember, nung bumalik ako sa LIS, pinipilit ni sir jr. i-trade ung krell ko sa plinius hautonga nya na bnew at 40% off plus i-less daw nya price ng pagkakabili ko sa krell, umayaw ako, diko mantindihan dun, bkit gusto mapabalik sa kanya kahit nagpapalugi na sya.. ^-^

How much is a k-300i these days?

Hindi sya lugi dun. the way I see it is that may buyer sya ng Krell mo plus he needed to move inventory. Malaki mark up ng dealership sa mga high end luxury items katulad ng Audio gears so even with the 40% he still makes money out of it. Mabait si JR in fairness. Been dealing with him since the early 90's. Favorite technique of selling nyan sa mga suki nya is once he sees you are interested in the item ipapauwi na sa iyo yan to try it out. He lets the product speak for itself when it comes to performance.

Unfortunately dealers that provide that kind of support are very rare. Yung rebate/upgrade scheme is usually offered by the manufacturer if repair is not an option.

Never tried or heard the PLINIUS in action, just saw & read about them I think they're also built like a tank.

i heard the plinius separates & also the hautonga integrated, matching the dynaudio x18 before.. sweet sounding & punchy - tight bass.. class a-b design, like krell, garbage in - garbage out.. but with a sexy clean look.. ^-^

He may look snobbish at first lalo pag di ka nya kilala but he is a great dude. Mas di ko pa nga masakyan yung customer approach ni Oliver eh hehe. Megamall Listening Room alumnus din ako just like you bro. Wala pa LIS eh JR disciple na tayo hahahaha.
Anyways back to the topic of Krell. One of the best yan together with the other old school amp brands like Mark Levinson, Jeff Rowland, MCintosh, Conrad Johnson, Audio Research, Pass Labs etc.

Story time please! Super hard to find details about what happened there. Is Dan back at Krell? All I've read is that his ex-wife managed to regain control of the company, but Dan is still at his new self-named gig?

Gusto ko yung minimalist Krell designs of the past.
Pangit yung Captain Nemo design ni Dan dagostino.

Like Nelson Pass, Dan D really knows what it takes to build high end amplification
