‘Moon Knight’: Oscar Isaac Tapped To Star In Marvel And Disney+ Series

Deadline is reporting that Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac is in negotiations to star in Moon Knight, the Marvel and Disney+ series based on the comic book hero.
Jeremy Slater, who developed and wrote Netflix’s series adaptation of The Umbrella Academy comic books, has been tapped to develop and lead the writing team on the series for the streamer.
Moon Knight, aka Marc Spector, is a mercenary who has numerous alter egos — cabbie Jake Lockley and millionaire playboy Steven Grant — in order to better fight the criminal underworld. But later he was established as being a conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Recently, he was a consultant who dresses in all white and goes by the name Mr. Knight. Most writers who have tackled Moon Knight in recent years have depicted him as a character with multiple personalities and a fractured mental state.

According to Deadline, Egyptian director Mohamed Diab has signed on to helm Moon Knight. Diab’s previous films include Clash, Cairo 677, and El Gezeira.

Moon Knight Series: Feige Teases Hero’s Multiple Identities
During Disney’s Investor Day, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed new details about Disney+’s upcoming MCU series Moon Knight, describing the series as an ” action-adventure…Indiana Jones-type story.” He also went on to confirmed that the eccentric hero’s multiple identities will be their own characters in the series. It’s interesting to note that Feige wasn’t able to confirm whether Oscar Isaac has indeed signed into the the project or not. A potential reason is that negotiations with Isaac might still be happening.
“Bringing a whole new different vibe to the MCU…The character Moon Knight is a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder,” Feige teased. “These multiple identities who live inside him are very distinct characters in the series. The backdrop of our story is an incredible Egyptian iconography. Egyptology is something the world’s always been fascinated by and we’re going to tap into it in a fun and bold way.”

Marvel Studios' Moon Knight series has snagged additional directors.
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, indie genre filmmakers behind sci-fi horror movies The Endless and Synchronic, are joining Mohamed Diab, the Egyptian filmmaker behind Middle Eastern drama Clash, as directors of the series that will star Oscar Isaac.
Diab is directing a sizeable chunk of the episodes. Umbrella Academy's Jeremy Slater is leading the writer's room. It is understood that Benson and Moorhead will direct several episodes.

Marvel's 'Moon Knight': May Calamawy Joins Oscar Isaac in Disney+ Series
May Calamawy, who is perhaps best known for her work in Hulu's Ramy, has nabbed a key role in Moon Knight, Marvel Studios’ series for Disney+.
Oscar Isaac is toplining the show featuring one of Marvel’s cult characters and that is aiming for a March production start in Budapest.
Mohamed Diab, the Egyptian helmer behind Middle Eastern drama Clash, and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, indie genre filmmaking team behind sci-fi horror movies The Endless and Synchronic, are directing the show.
It is unclear what Marvel’s take for the series will be. It is also unclear what role Calamawy will play and Marvel declined to comment.

Ethan Hawke to Play Villain Opposite Oscar Isaac in Marvel's 'Moon Knight'
Making his comic book adaptation and superhero debut, Ethan Hawke has closed a deal to join Oscar Isaac in Moon Knight, Marvel Studios’ series for Disney+, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Hawke will play the series’ lead villain.
Isaac is toplining the show, which is aiming for a March production start in Budapest.
It is unclear who Hawke would play, but Moon Knight's archnemesis is a villain named Bushman, a fellow mercenary who turned on the hero when Egyptian gold came into the picture.

The upcoming Disney+ MCU series – starring Oscar Isaac as the nocturnal vigilante with dissociative identity disorder and a penchant for Egyptology – is a show that, in all senses, doesn’t pull its punches.
There’s a harder edge to Moon Knight – aka Steven Grant, aka Marc Spector – that Marvel boss Kevin Feige isn’t shying away from. “He’s brutal,” Feige tells Empire, citing the streaming service as a space to expand what an MCU story can be. “It’s been fun to work with Disney+ and see the boundaries shifting on what we’re able to do. There are moments [in the series] when Moon Knight is wailing on another character, and it is loud and brutal, and the knee-jerk reaction is, ‘We’re gonna pull back on this, right?’ No. We’re not pulling back. Moon Knight: Marvel Reveals Oscar Winner Voices Khonshu
Ahead of its debut this March 30, Disney has confirmed that Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus, Last Action Hero) has signed on to become the voice of Egyptian god Khonshu in Marvel Studios’ next Disney+ series Moon Knight. The ancient god’s appearance has been already been teased in previously released trailers.
In the comics, Khonshu is known as the God of the Moon and was a member of the Heliopolitan race of gods. Due to not being able to leave his realm, he would choose a champion to become his avatar and be guided by his will. He was the one who gifted Marc Spector with powers and superhuman abilities.

Intriguing episode. This coming from someone with zero knowledge of moon knight. My sister who’s into egyptian mythology will love it. Should i read up on him or should i just let myself be surprised?

I had some of his comics back in the late 80s, and i just thought of it like a different Batman... Not sure if there was a retcon or something, but the first episode was not what I was expecting at all.

O have a few Moon Knight graphic novels and ibang iba ang theme ng TV series sa comics. Recent addition Lang ata yung Dissociative Identity Disorder sa character ni Moon Knight. Will read more recent comics. Very interesting 1st episode.

I was aware that a Marvel character named Moon Knight existed but shied away from following it as many other comics nerds have told me it's a Marvel take on the Dark Knight.
I liked the first episode, though. It's actually quite refreshing to watch a superhero series where one has very little knowledge of the backstories.

Moon Knight is basically Venom without Marc Spector. Currently reading Jeff Lemire's Moon Knight and dun pala nila kinuha yung DID angle. Enjoyed episode 2.

I liked episode 2. I haven't tried to look up Moon Knight's history and bio, btw, preferring to just go along for the ride for this series. :)
I am really tripping out on Steven Grant's perceived working-class-London-missing-consonants-and-cockney-ish-rhyming accent. This sort of dialogue you would expect from a Guy Ritchie film ("bruv", "laters gators", "innit", etc); definitely not in an MCU film, where there are, ironically, quite the number of britons donning polished american accents (e.g. Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland).
Maybe this persona of his has watched too many british gangster films? ;D
I don't think the schizo bits would have worked quite as well had the contrast in accents not been as pronounced.

IMO it was one of the most unique and enjoyable TV series from Marvel to date, due to the show’s premise and Oscar Isaac’s acting. Still don’t know how Moon Knight fits into the MCU, but I’m not disappointed. It was actually refreshing to watch something that didn’t have the obligatory MCU connection or reference.

Marc and Steven are not aware of Jake. Sa umpisa palang akala ni Steven na si Marc ang dahilan ng mga violence after he takes over the body, it was Jake all along.

I would agree. This was a fun series without any excess baggage from the rest of the MCU.
I didn't really follow the comic book so I also didn't have any excess baggage from canon or any expectations from it., which probably made me enjoy it more.

Mohamed Diab & Oscar Isaac Tease Moon Knight Season 2
Moon Knight executive producer Mohamed Diab and star Oscar Isaac have seemingly confirmed that there will be a second season of the hit Disney+ series.
In a recent video posted to Diab’s TikTok account, someone can be seen asking if there will be a second season of the show. Diab appears in frame, mentioning Moon Knight, before Isaac pops into frame, asking “Why else would we be in Cairo?” as the trio sails across a body of water.
While no official announcement has come regarding an upcoming second season, it would make a lot of sense for the series to get one. Following a successful run on Disney+, Moon Knight came to an end by teasing the appearance of yet another personality for Isaac’s Marc Spector, essentially ending on a cliffhanger that could easily be picked up in the second season.

Disney and Marvel have announced that they will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Moon Knight (2022). The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on April 30, 2024.
