Title: 4K Blu-ray is now 6 years old
Post by: DViant on Feb 14, 2022 at 08:56 PM
Below are the release dates of previous physical media

- DVD (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD) on November 1, 1996; 26 years ago (Japan)
- 2K Blu-ray (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray) on June 20, 2006; 16 years ago
- 4K Blu-ray (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_HD_Blu-ray) on February 14, 2016; 6 years ago

In case they can make it economical 8K Blu-ray (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8K_resolution) could be out in 2026 or later.

This would be the year I'd start looking for 8K TVs (https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1640720756) as the spec keep changing and that's when I expect streaming services will offer 8K content.

We got our LaserDisc (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaserDisc) player in the late 1980s... So we upgrade every decade
