Title: DVD Terms You've Adopted
Post by: weddingsingr on Aug 28, 2001 at 08:43 PM
With the volume of information we learn about DVDs, especially through PinoyDVD, I've adopted some DVD terms for daily use na.

Some examples are:

9th Gate - A friend of mine lost my friend's copy of 9th Gate na hindi niya fault (long story). So she had to replace it. When she replaced it na with a new one (ordered pa sa US) saka lumitaw ang missing copy.

So when I lend out something, kahit hindi DVD eh sinasabi ko eh - "O, ingatan mo iyan at baka ma-9th Gate ka."

DVD5, DVD9, & DVD18 - to describe layers.  Sabi ng officemate namin, yuong hair daw niya eh multi-layers ang design.  So sabi ko kay Toprock... ah DVD18 pala ang hair niya.  A two-layered cake is DVD9.

So what have you adopted?

double dip- pag meron ka na dating kopya ng dvd, tapos me lumabas na special edition at maraming ekstras at digitally remastered na, kaya mapapabili ka uli kc di mo maiwasan.

OOP- means out-of-print. Dvds that are no longer available on the market. Your last resort is eBay or amazon marketplace. If you're lucky enough, you can buy it on dvd marketplace.

grainy- refers to the video transfer, sometimes associated also with specks if the movie is old already.

remastered/restored- if you read dvd reviews, you'll encounter always these two terms. Video and sound comes alive in all its outstanding glory thru this process.

Hello guys,

Just a clarification of what this thread is all about:

Please tell us how you've adopted DVD terms to non-dvd items, for example, locally-made items are  called "R3", US-made items are "R1", etc
